[Intro]

Hello, Gaia. I'm quite bad at introductions, so please bear with me. gonk

The reason why I am creating this thread is because I feel that most of the ED community can be intelligent, respectful and open-minded. I have been researching Michael Jackson for almost three years now and while the musician is often praised as phenomenal, the man is often put down for things that are not of his character. This thread is my attempt at showing the world, even if it's just a small part of it, that Michael Jackson is a very different man from what the media feeds society.

[About Me]

I originally heard of Michael Jackson when I was about 7, 8, maybe 9-years-old. I saw him in a book about the past 20 years of pop culture in the "celebrity couples" section. I handed the book to my mother and asked her, "Who is this man?" All she could answer with was, "He's a very bad man." If memory serves me right, she also mentioned (either at that point or later on) that he was a child molester. We had a laugh about how the child he was holding had red eyes and I proceeded to the next page.
I had no clue about Billie Jean, Thriller or any of his other chart topping hits. I didn't even know he was originally in the Jackson 5 or that he was originally black.

My next "Michael-related" event was when I heard a MIDI of Smooth Criminal online shortly after. I really liked the tune of the song, but felt incredibly ashamed as I saw the name "Michael Jackson" attached to it. I felt as if I was listening to "child molester music" or something of the sort. I just felt sick listening to it.

Following that event, I was in CompUSA with my mother and barely heard over the speakers something that made me realize it was Smooth Criminal -- but not the Smooth Criminal I had come to secretly like! This was a rock version that made me quite afraid as I was living in an intense bubble at that age (being homeschooled helped this bubble to stay up for so long)... I just did not like the song and I became very afraid of Michael Jackson after that. Now, as you know, Smooth Criminal is not a rock song... but its cover by Alien Ant Farm is. Apparently that's the song I had heard that one day.

I was still intrigued by Michael, though. Something about 'freaks' has always intrigued me, I guess. I would look up jokes about Michael, but it never dawned on me to look at his side of the story.

June 13, 2005 came along and I got a call from my grandmother telling me to turn on one of the news stations, as all of them had "MICHAEL JACKSON JURY TO ANNOUNCE VERDICT" plastered all over them. When the verdicts were finally being read, my grandmother and I were quiet. Count one - Not guilty. Fury ran through me, but I still had hope. Count two - Not guilty. Count three... and so on...

I instant messaged my friend (who was and still is not a fan of Michael Jackson) and told him that I was angry with the verdict, when he said that the verdict was correct and that at least in this case he did not molest anyone and it was all for money. So, I did my research. I realized he was right. My fascination grew even more as I learned more and more about this man who I barely knew anything about.

I went on MichaelJackson.com to see if his record company would have the balls to put up anything about his trial whatsoever (not knowing about his personal website, MJJSource.com, currently defunct) and found nothing. I saw something saying, "Short Films" and expected it to be weird and cheesy home movies. I saw various titles, "Thriller," "Billie Jean," etc... Again, I did not know about these so the only video that caught my eye was, "Smooth Criminal."

Back then, the video was roughly 150x100, so it was hard to watch, but boy did I watch, and watch, and watch! I was mesmerized by this incredible dancer, this incredible musician... This completed my circle of fascination and I've been hooked ever since.

Google eventually led me to a wonderful forum, MJ News Online (recently closed), this forum led me to so much information about Michael that has led me to be the supporter that I am today.

Are you infected with the same disease of lust, gluttony and greed?
Then watch the ones with the biggest smiles.
The idle jabbers...'Cause they're the back stabbers.
If you know it's a lie then you will swear it
If you give it with guilt then you will bear it
If it's taking a chance then you will dare it
You'll do anything for money...

MICHAEL JACKSON'S SKIN

Why is Michael Jackson's skin color currently white when he was born with black-skin and the rest of his family is also black-skinned?
Michael Jackson was diagnosed in 1984 with the skin disease vitiligo along with discoid lupus.

Vitiligo Support International
What is vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a relatively common skin disorder, in which white spots or patches appear on the skin. These spots are caused by destruction or weakening of the pigment cells in those areas, resulting in the pigment being destroyed or no longer produced. Many doctors and researchers believe that vitiligo is an autoimmune-related disorder. Although researchers are not exactly sure what causes the autoimmune response, more is being learned every year. In vitiligo, only the color of the skin is affected. The texture and other skin qualities remain normal.

What does vitiligo look like?
Vitiligo appears as uneven white patches on the skin, that may vary from lighter tan to complete absence of pigment. Many people develop vitiligo bilaterally, in other words, if it appears on one elbow, it often appears on the other elbow. Researchers do not completely understand why this is. Others develop what is known as segmental vitiligo, where the patches develop in only one area or on only one side of the body.

How is this relevant? Trauma, especially to the head, can cause a rapid spread of vitiligo.

Quote:
How does vitiligo develop?
The condition is caused by an abnormal immune response in which antibodies attack melanocytes in the skin. Vitiligo is more common in people with other autoimmune diseases such as Grave's disease, alopecia areata and pernicious anemia, and in those who suffer from adrenal insufficiency. The condition also tends to run in families and may follow trauma, especially to the head. Although it is considered primarily a cosmetic disorder, as it is not life-threatening and does not usually come with other medical symptoms, it can be an emotionally devastating disease because of the visibility of the depigmentation. Vitiligo is temporary in one-third of those diagnosed with it.

Vitiligo may result following an unusual physical trauma particularly to the head, it may also occur in conjunction with other diseases such as Addisons dis., diabetes, pernicious anaemia and thyroid diseases.

This spread of vitiligo caused Michael to look like a "spotted cow" as his mother put it and he decided to get depigmentation therapy with the drug monobenzylether of hydroquione.

Quote:
Depigmentation Therapy
If a person has Vitiligo over more than half of the exposed areas of the body, he or she is not a candidate for repigmentation.
Rather, such a person may want to try depigmentation of the remaining pigmented skin. The drug for depigmentation is monobenzylether of hydroquinone. Many patients with Vitiligo are at first apprehensive about the idea of depigmentation and reluctant to go ahead. However, patients who achieve complete depigmentation are usually satisfied with the end results. Some people become allergic to the medication and must discontinue therapy. This therapy takes about a year to complete. The pigment removal is permanent.

"His face is white because he has had this disease, and instead of having it spotted like a cow or something like that he just decided to just do the whole thing, because he could afford to do it."

Despite these treatments, Michael Jackson still has various brown blotches on his skin.
The most recent and noticeable photo I could find of Michael with brown blotches on his skin are of when he was in London in 2005.

When did Michael tell the public that he has vitiligo?

In 1993, before the allegations broke, Oprah Winfrey held a live interview with Michael Jackson. She asked him about his skin color, asking him if he had been bleaching himself...

Quote:
Oprah: OK, then let's go to the thing that is most discussed about you, that is, the color of your skin...is most obviously different than when you were younger, and so I think it has caused a great deal of speculation and controversy as to what you have done or are doing, are you bleaching your skin, and is your skin getting lighter because you don't like being black?

Michael: Number one, as far as I know of there is no such thing as skin bleaching. I have never seen it, I don't know what it is.

Oprah: Well they used to have those products, I remember growing up always hearing "always use bleach and glow", but you have to have about 300,000 gallons.

Michael: OK, but number one, this is the situation. I have a skin disorder that destroys the pigmentation of my skin, it's something that I cannot help, OK? But when people make up stories that I don't want to be what I am it hurts me.

Oprah: So it is...

Michael: It's a problem for me that I can't control...but what about all the millions of people who sit out in the sun, to become darker, to become other than what they are. No one says nothing about that.

Oprah: So when did this start? When did your...when did the color of your skin start to change?

Michael: Oh boy, I don't....sometime after Thriller, around Off The Wall, Thriller, sometime around then.

Oprah: But what did you think?

Michael: It's in my family, my father said it's on his side. I can't control it, I don't understand. I mean it makes me very sad. I don't want to go into my medical history because that is private, but that's the situation here.

Oprah: So OK, I just want to get this straight, you are not taking anything to change the color of your skin?

Michael: Oh God no, we tried to control it and using make-up evens it out because it makes blotches on my skin. I have to even out my skin.

Who are Michael Jackson's children?
Prince Michael Jackson I (b. February 13, 1997) (Currently age 11)
Paris Michael Katherine Jackson (b. April 3, 1998 ) (Currently age 9)
Prince Michael Jackson II (b. February 2002) (Currently age 6) *Commonly known as Blanket, although this is NOT his real name, it is merely a nickname as explained here...

Quote:
Bashir: You recently had your third child. Were you present for his birth?

Jackson: Yes.

Bashir: Now, what's he like? What's his name?

Jackson: Prince Michael II, but we call him Blanket.

Bashir: You call him Blanket?

Jackson: Yeah.

Bashir: Why do you call him Blanket?

Jackson: It's an expression I use with my family and employees. I say, "You should blanket me," or "You should blanket her with something." A blanket is a blessing; It's a way of showing love and caring.

Who is their mother?
Prince Michael Jackson I and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson's mother is Deborah 'Debbie' Rowe, Michael Jackson's second wife (Marriage length: November 15, 1996 - October 8, 1999). Deborah Rowe is white.
The mother of 'Blanket' is currently unknown by the public. Michael has said the mother of 'Blanket' is black.

Quote:
Jackson: Yeah, there are surrogate mothers who do that every day. That happens every day in the world.

Bashir: Is that how Blanket was born as well?

Jackson: I used a surrogate mother, with my own sperm cells. I had sperm cells in my other two children, they're all my children, but I used a surrogate mother. She doesn't know me and I don't know her. That's how he was born.

Bashir: How did you select the mother out of interest?

Jackson: It didn't matter to me, as long as she was healthy. I didn't care what race. I said, "As long as she's healthy, and she doesn't have eye -- Her vision's good, and her intellect, I want to know how intelligent she is."

Bashir: Would you have conceived a child with a black woman?

Jackson: Of course.

Bashir: But, I've seen Blanket and I think it's safe to say his mother's probably white.

Jackson: No, you're wrong.

Bashir: I'm wrong?

Jackson: Yeah.

Bashir: Oh really? So Blanket's mother is black?

Jackson: Yeah.

Bashir: But Blanket's so white.

Jackson: Black people were called colored people because we come in all colors. From very white, as white as my hand, to very dark, as the dark of your shirt. [Note: Martin Bashir was wearing a dark navy, if not black, shirt] My father has blue eyes. When they see Paris, they always think Debbie, and that could easily be my father's genes.

Bashir: Really?

Jackson: Of course.

But, Michael Jackson is a black man and these children are white!
Yep. Turns out black men can have white children, too. If you refer back to the previous question, you will see that I said Deborah Rowe is a white woman.

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Genetics-1795/Black-father-White-mother.htm

Debbie's genes could have been extremely strong in Prince and Paris and if the mother of 'Blanket' had any white genes, they could have been strong, too.

Michael Jackson also has white genes. Some of his past relatives were white, as stated in his father's book.

If you look carefully at some of Prince and Blanket's features, you will see they both (especially Blanket) look a lot like Michael when he was very young. Here's two baby/young pictures of Michael as examples.

"And he is constantly re-modifying something, or changing it, or reconstructing it or, you know, working on some imperfection he thinks needs to be worked on. If he sees something he doesn't like he changes it. Period. He re-sculpted himself. He's an artist."

"Ain’t the pictures enough, why do you go through so much
To get the story you need, so you can bury me
You’ve got the people confused, you tell the stories you choose
You try to get me to lose the man I really am

You keep on stalking me, invading my privacy
won’t you just let me be
‘cause you cameras can’t control, the minds of those who know
That you’ll even sell your soul just to get a story sold"
