- Born to a French mother and a Scottish father, James Edgar Hammish McCoy was not an ordinary child. At the age of four, his Scottish father began the task of teaching James the ways of the Blue Boar Inn which the McCoy family had owned and tended to since the medieval ages. His French mother was opposed to forcing such a large task onto their son, but, seeing as the Blue Boar was where she had met her love, she remained in the background while he taught Edgar, and was there for her son when he came, crying, about how harsh his father was. However, disaster struck as, at age eight and three-quarters, James remembers exactly the moment his thirty-three year old father fell to his knees, and had a heart attack. The doctors said it was from the stress. Nonetheless, James' French mother made his Scottish father give the Inn to one of his many younger brothers, and immigrate with her to her French home.
James Edgar Hammish McCoy fit in beautifully in France. His Scottish accent made him the object of attraction to all at his new private school, and his hardworking ways made him the object of affection to all his teachers. It was there, in France, at the age of twelve and three days, that his first art and French teacher handed him a sketchpad and a tray of watercolors, and told him to paint his home. He spent days on the painting, making the picture look exactly like the Inn he had left behind. From there, James taught himself to use all sorts of mediums. His father, an unusually hard to please man with a hot temper that could only be tamed by the soothing whispers of his wife, didn't notice his son's talent and passion until, one day, his son fell asleep with the sketchbook in his lap. The man woke his son up right away, questioning him. His father loved the art, wanted James to paint more. As soon as James turned sixteen, his father surprised him- a chance to go to a prestigious art school in the United States. There was a tearful farewell between him and his parents, and his baby sister who had come only two years ago, and the French-Scottish boy was off.
The United States inspired James...to an extent. When he found he was twice as talented as most of the artists in his class, he went to the streets. He sold his sketches and paintings, working to ensure that the generous amount of money his father gave him didn't always go towards the rent of his small apartment. With his Scottish accent, and French looks and speech, it's not hard to see why girls fall over James. James doesn't mind- in fact, he adores the attention, and he loves girls. James is a tourist attraction for those of the art world, and many can find his stall in town, if they don't look for it.
