- Dog listened to Dina’s information about Enzo carefully, but silently. He was still forming his opinion on this strange man, and the revealing of his mixed heritage seemed to Dog to unveil some portion of his character. Not that the werewolf himself had had much time to delve into Enzo’s personality; he’d only seen the man once, after all. Not exactly good fodder for forming a lasting impression. Not that it was really any of his business, he supposed; Dog was actually much more interested when the former witch continued on to explain just how she’d come to be where she was. The werewolf studied her discretely, a disbelieving frown on his face. This expression was not a result of not believing her words –for her was positive Dina was speaking with all honesty by her tone alone—but because the idea that a people would pit their own against each other in such a way was almost inconceivable to a werewolf mindset. Siblings fighting siblings? It was rather disconcerting. Dog listened to her story in silence and made no move to offer a response to her words. What was there for him to say? Nothing constructive, the dark haired werewolf believed, and he allowed his disapproving silence to stand as answer enough.
“A parrot?” Dog repeated, lifting an eyebrow and trying to picture the stern, efficient young woman running around with a goofy, colorful bird. It took a little creativity, but he did it. The werewolf almost smiled as Dina scrambled to avoid any insulting references to dogs, which struck him as somewhat ironic, and shook his head slowly. Stopped, looked at Dina a bit disbelievingly and continued in a murmur. “His name is… what?” the werewolf asked in confusion, wondering if he’d somehow misheard her. It was unlikely, but apparently he just had to ask. Clearing his throat, dark green eyes averted and he continued a bit quickly. “Well, that’s not too bad, since you don’t clip his wings. It’s the things people do to their pets that really get to me personally. Like clipping their wings or ears or tails. Or keeping them all day in a cage. Hurts just to look at an animal that’s had that sort of stuff done to it.” Dog admitted with a small wince, which turned to making a face at the mention of Dina’s ex-boyfriend. The werewolf disliked this faceless character in Dina’s narrative instantly… because he was, at one point, Dina’s boyfriend, not because of the markedly cruel thing he had done to Larry. Not that the latter didn’t matter and wasn’t quickly amended into his reasoning the second Dog realized it, of course. “Well, at least he came back.” Dog added a bit lamely, rubbing at his nose.
“Yeah… basically.” Dog admitted when Dina elaborated on what she knew about the Rogue hunting group. In retrospect, Dog was wishing more and more that he hadn’t brought it up. Abram in particular didn’t like to talk about it more then he had to, and while Dog was pretty positive that Abram wouldn’t want any mention of the specifics of the role he played in the group to reach Cassey, the green eyed werewolf couldn’t help but think that now that the information had slipped, Dina would find a way to fill in the answers to any of her questions should he fail to provide them. A small sigh escaped him, but he elaborated quietly. “We only go into action when a werewolf goes Rogue which, fortunately, isn’t very often. Rogue hunting groups consist of six werewolves… one negotiator, one tracker, one recovery, and three killers.” he paused, wishing there was some acceptable way to soften that last bit, and continued with an uncomfortable shift of his weight. “There’s one group to every 100 miles of territory, and we’re responsible for responding to any incident that happens in our territory. Since I’m the recovery for our group, that means I always have a lot of work to do.” It was such a strange thing to be discussing out in the sunlight in the middle of an amusement park; it made it seem a bit surreal, and Dog instantly vowed to discuss such downers no more.
“I am? Really?” Dog found that a bit difficult to believe; Dina seemed the sort to be in constant lawyer-mode. Even the ordering of ice cream--and such a fanciful order it was!—was delivered with stern demand in her tone. His lips twitched as if to smile before her caught himself, and Dog glanced away from the young woman to distract himself. There was a word that her demeanor warranted, but it was one that he didn’t use very often, and was therefore having a difficult time dragging from the recesses of his mind. It started with a c, he was pretty sure… c… cu…cut… Nope, it wasn’t coming, and lingering on it made his brain hurt. There was a crisis happening! He’d have to ponder on it later.
Abram could remember no single moment when he had felt worse. Sure, that thing he had been wishing for, to have Cassey in his arms again, had happened; the girl was pressed tightly against him, her arms twined around him and face pressed to his chest with such desperate tenderness that it almost coaxed him into forgetting the other man’s name still fresh on her lips. But she was crying, trembling in fear, and clinging to him not in an expression of her feelings for the werewolf, but because she was too terrified of the consequence that would accompany letting go. It riled his instincts and kept him from thinking too clearly; the only constant, predominate thought was to put an end to anything and everything that would put his sweet, cheerful Cassey in such a state. But there was only so much he, someone the little witch only barely considered a friend, felt he could do, only so many things he could break and throw around. There was a limit not to the comfort he wished to offer, but to the ability he had to communicate it to the purple eyed spell caster. It made him restless, anxious, and unaccustomed to feeling so useless; Abram stood, but without any consciousness of what he planned to do as he watched Dina comfort Cassey, his emotions clear on his face. His shoulder twitched when Dog’s hand came to rest on it firmly, stepping close to his cousin to speak to him in a soft mutter.
“Easy, Abram… you’ve done all you can. Let Dina take it from here… you just focus on changing back. You’re drawing more attention then we need.”
“Ngh…” Abram knew Dog was right; Dog was always right when it came to things like this. “Right.” he muttered, tearing his eyes away from Cassey with great difficulty. That’s right; he needed to not look like a science fiction mutant when Cassey calmed down… such things rarely, if ever, helped people stay calm. Abram closed his eyes but for a second, his transformation reversing itself quickly and efficiently. Practice did indeed make perfect, and when Abram opened his eyes and gave himself a somewhat-therapeutic shake, he looked acceptably human, albeit a shoeless human. Eyes finally back to their natural green, Abram stole a glance towards Cassey and Dina and flinched slightly at the latter’s steely eyed glare. It was official: Operation Impress Dina was a failure. A massive sigh escaped Abram and his head hung slightly… oh well; he couldn’t say he regretted it. Compared to the alternative of leaving Cassey crying in the dark, irritating her sister was something he could live with. Yes, that was right… Cassey was safe and in the comforting arms of her sister; Abram could afford to relax now, if only for a little bit. Of course, then the sound of stomping feet reached his sensitive ears and he looked up to see the red faced manager leveling them with a gaze of pure hatred. Abram blinked, then laughed a bit sheepishly when the last (and angriest) you fell on him. He’d been expecting that. “Ahahah… right.”
“Here we go.” Dog sighed a bit heavily, sparing only a quick glance at Dina before leading the small group after the understandably irate manager. The young man shared a look with his cousin when the manager asked who would like to go first before releasing a heavy sigh; he could already tell where this day was going to go. Before he could speak up Dina beat him to the punch; jade eyes blinked, then flicked to the young woman’s form with a small, questioning frown. Dina sure sounded sure of herself…
“Yeah; no problem.” Abram assured Dina when the latter asked the former to look after her sister. He took a step towards her and held his arms out, watching her with a wry smile tugging at his lips as she wrapped her arms around him. Now that she was out of danger the young werewolf was able to enjoy her closeness, to feel some semblance of worth in the ability to wrap his arms gently around her, fearful of breaking her should he squeeze too hard. It was a double edged sword since he knew she didn’t hug him with any sentiment that resembled returning his feelings, but the delight at the ability to offer some tangible comfort to the girl he loved trumped that. Really, it was a very confusing bunch of emotions. “Dog and I aren’t going anywhere, Cassey.” he promised in a murmur, rubbing her back soothingly and trading another long look with Dog over her head. Before the tawny haired lad could hazard more words, however, Dina’s voice rang through the hall, clear and full of irate indignation. It made both werewolves jump and Abram tighten his grip on Cassey despite himself as both of them stared at the door Dina and the manager had disappeared through with wide eyes. “Ah…” Abram finally managed to say as Cassey slipped free from him; the urge to pull her back was strong, but not so strong that he couldn’t resist it if he didn’t put his hands firmly in his pockets, which he did. “Yeah, I can see that.” he answered Cassey, apparently unable to resist a teasing glance Dog-ward. Taking note that Dog was careful to be looking anywhere but at his cousin Abram was inclined to chuckle, but was distracted by Cassey’s thanks. They were simply and bashfully given, but few other words had so cleanly ensnared Abram’s heart. Of course, he was going to brush it off like a champ, but Dina burst from the office victorious, relieving him of his chance.

“Huh?” Dog lifted an eyebrow as Dina emerged with arms full of park products, his expression slightly disbelieving. How had she pulled this off, exactly?
“Er..?” Abram looked a bit mystified as the attendant handed him the shoes, which he took only reflexively (they were irksome shoes, after all). “Wow… thanks.” he said, his grin slowly returning as he cast his eyes to Dina. “Hey… what did you say to that guy? Whatever it was… thanks. Hey, Dog, looks like we’ll be able to come back to Wonder-World again after all!
“Oh, goody.” Dog sighed sarcastically, looking down at the products Dina pushed in his arms skeptically. Well, he did love him some free stuff. Dark green eyes blinked in slight confusion—what was she thanking him for, again?—and then the man nodded. “Sounds like a good idea to me.” However, he wasn’t allowed to escape with that as Cassey, reminded of their original purpose in going to the amusement park, rounded on him. Great, what was he supposed to say now? He’d nearly died on an amusement park ride, found his attar, jumped an amusement park ride to bully what he was pretty sure was an endangered species, and was now trying to remember what parts of Abram’s failed plan were still in play. “Hard on me? No… well… she wasn’t… not really…” he trailed off, then cleared his throat, keeping his eyes on the ground as he nodded only in answer to her inquiry as to if he had fun. What? A minimal answer was an answer nonetheless!
Hopping into his shoes, Abram cast a sneaky look after his cousin and his love interest and sighed with a wry smile that had been haunting him since he’d first met the girl; it was just his luck, it was just so darn ironic, but he somehow had managed to fail in making as much as a single step forward in the Cassey department. He had a strong feeling that the universe had tricked him again. How often was he going to be falling for the same gag, he wondered? Dina spoke up to distract him from his thoughts, and Abram turned his grin on the lawyer-in-training. “Ah… well… I’m glad you think so.” he informed her. After all, interesting was better then having no opinion of him at all… Dog had his foot in the door! But there was no time to celebrate this; Dina’s next words sent Abram tripping over his own feet. Stumbling and struggling to correct his balance, the werewolf looked at Dina with wide eyes. “Ah… that…” he trailed off lamely, then sighed. Burying his hands deeply in his pockets and keeping his eyes on his feet in a Dog-like show of repentance, Abram winced slightly at the word ‘lie’. “I didn’t lie!” he objected, then winced again. “I mean… I don’t lie often, or anything. And I… I didn’t mean to do it this time, either. That is…” he scratched the back of his head and glanced at Dina, surprised to find the young woman smiling. Talk about hard to read! These serious-business types always confused the hell out of him.
“Helpful?” Dog, uncomfortable in being forced to listen to Cassey’s continued ignorance to the plan Dina had apparently figured out so easily, deadpanned. Abram had freakin’ killed a rollercoaster; ‘helpful’ was not the first word that came to the werewolf’s mind when he reflected on such a move. Not that he would speak such things against his cousin aloud, of course. “Yeah, sure… but I wouldn’t be too worried about it. I’m pretty sure she saw what she was supposed to see.” Dog said slowly. He really was no good at being subtle. This was reinforced when Cassey informed him sympathetically that she didn’t think they were in love, prompting a heavy sigh from him. This poor girl was SO oblivious; Abram was going to have a difficult time with his attar, and Dog didn’t envy him the experience a bit. “Er… no… I don’t think we are either.” he agreed uncomfortably, clearing his throat. But her next words caught him a bit off guard; it was embarrassing for him to admit, but his heart actually skipped slightly at the idea that someone so innocently oblivious could come to such a conclusion. “Suited… for Dina..?” he murmured to himself, watching Cassey skip ahead in something akin to wonder.
“Sorry, Dina…” Abram said as they approached their destination. “But I don’t see a tea… shop…” he trailed off, quite forgetting where he was going with his sentence as his nose told him an interesting story about what had occurred on this plot of land. He quickly looked at Dog, who seemed just as perturbed. There was the smell of herbs, certainly, but it was the living scents that so caught the two werewolves off guard. Yes, there was the scent of Darius, which Cassey was apparently able to sense by pure instinct; only the identification of Lydia’s scent alongside the vampire’s was enough to keep Abram from getting disheartened at that little observation. But those two were not the only scents; there was a third, shifting and unidentifiable that Abram personally had never smelled the like of before, and then, most strange of all, were the mingled scents of Alexis and Enzo, who were supposed to be out on a date in location unknown. Darius, Lydia, Alexis, Enzo, and Mystery Man; it made for a very strange grouping, and Abram found his expression becoming somewhat drawn as he tried to picture it. Just what had been going on here? “Yeah…” he answered while distracted, the words leaving his mouth before his brain caught up with things.
Dog, busy mulling over the strange circumstance that would have brought Darius, Alexis, and Enzo together without one or more of the three ending up bloodied, blinked as Dina stepped back into him, his hands instinctively coming to rest on her shoulders to steady her. The young woman’s face flushed and she quickly moved away from him; Dog didn’t comment beyond a darkening of the eyes, quickly looking away to land on Cassey. Her suggestion had him deadpanning again.
“What?”
“Huh?” Suddenly, the universe was smiling upon him again, and had Abram’s tail been out, it would have been wagging. So this was to be his reward for another trying day: a kiss from Cassey! Sure, it would be on the cheek, but it was a kiss from Cassey, a small show of affection that would tide him over until the next opportunity he found.
“Um…” Dog, far too embarrassed about being easily read in ways his cousin never could fathom, turned a little red and scratched his cheek at Cassey’s proposal. “You… er, you don’t have to do that. We were just helping… it was no big de…” Jade eyes blinked as Casey pressed a small kiss to his cheek, and Dog immediately rubbed the area with his palm like a little kid, embarrassed.
The glorious moment had arrived! Abram had a hard time keeping his excitement in check, because he had to do that… it wouldn’t do anyone much good if he jumped on Cassey the very second after she kissed him. Well, it would do him a good deal of good, but it would probably be temporary, probably get him killed and, if not that, would most certainly ruin Cassey’s opinion of him, which he couldn’t afford to do. She moved towards him and the werewolf’s heart skipped a beat as he leaned towards her eagerly… only to deadpan at the girl’s whisper. His head fell heavily and he felt the strongest urge to cry a little bit since he was five. Cruel, cruel universe! Tempting with the thought of Cassey’s lips so close to his own, and then yanking the rug out from under him!! How heartbreaking! It was such a blow that the normally verbose Abram found himself incapable of uttering a single word for many minutes.
“Ah…” Dog found his objections were failing him when it was Dina standing before him. A lump formed in his throat, and as much as he knew that he should say the words to stop her, he couldn’t for the life of him think why, or what those words would be. His eyes flicked to her slender hand as it rested against his shoulder, then returned to looking into hers. “You’re… you’re welcome.” Even such a simple sentence was so difficult to say, especially when the werewolf realized the purple eyed witch was actually going to obey her sister! There wasn’t much time for him to marvel or attempt to prepare himself, for suddenly, amazingly, her lips found his. Her kiss came as a jolt to him and he knew it instantly: just like he’d been attempting to explain before, the attar was like a drug, and it was a drug on which Dog was now effectively hooked.
Only something phenomenal could have distracted Abram from the latest, crushing blow Cassey’s cheerful ignorance to his feelings had delivered, and Dina and Dog kissing was indeed phenomenal; Abram’s jaw dropped and he openly stared at the two, amazed. So amazed that it wasn’t until he was being dragged away that he realized that Cassey had grabbed his hand, and seeing how aware of the little witch Abram had become, that was saying something. He twisted to follow her properly, her girlish giggles making everything in the universe okay and compliant to her wishes, and forcing a smile to Abram’s lips despite the deafening ache in his heart. No, he couldn’t let that one little disappointment get him down… each second with Cassey was to be cherished, and especially in the light of how terrible her misery could be, Abram supposed he should just be grateful that the purple eyed witch had been returned to her usual good spirits.
“Yeah…” he agreed slowly, grinning despite himself. “I’m pretty sure Dog wouldn’t have done anything if we’d stuck around. Even if Dina is his attar, he’d probably never do anything embarrassing with or to her while there were people watching. He’s so not like me that it’s not even funny.” Abram laughed, a shade embarrassed when he thought over where his own thoughts had been drifting with extreme frequency. If it weren’t for the fact that he was sure it would just scare Cassey away, he’d jump on her for some lovin’ with no care at all about who was watching. So much for being embarrassed. But that reminded him… “Ah… since we’re alone… I have something to talk to you about, Cassey.” he said, his tone finally gaining back a hint of that playfulness that was so common to him. “You’ve been getting some things wrong about me pretty often… it’s not very nice. I’m kind of sad about it, actually. ” he laughed, then slowly got a little more serious in tone. “You seem to think Lydia and I are… involved, somehow. And we’re not. Lydia’s like a sister to me, and I could never think of her as anything more or less then family. I could never have feelings for her… you know what I mean? And she feels the same way. Plus it’s kind of insulting to the girl I actually have feelings for to keep saying things like that.” Abram added, his tone somewhat impish. “The girl I actually have feelings for is special… really, really special. You can see it from a mile away… I know, because I did. She’s cheerful, and looks best when she’s smiling and happy, and has a love for sweets and this weird, weird ability to… ah… how should I say it… knock me off my feet. My family loves her, and I like to think she likes them even though she’s only met them a few times… and for werewolves, that’s huge. And, most importantly, she’s beautiful inside and out. She’s got one of the warmest spirits and most caring hearts I’ve ever seen, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a girl who just by smiling makes the whole world around her more dazzling. Just because she’s smiled at me.” Abram paused, catching himself in a speech that would surely have Dog muttering warnings about decorum at him and Mary blushing with excitement, and scratched the back of his head. But this temporary show of bashfulness was immediately overwhelmed by deep, echoing laughter, laughter that was almost too difficult to maintain while also trying to walk. “A-And the funny thing is…” the tawny haired werewolf howled between laughs, “Is that you’ll probably never guess her name unless I tell you myself! Ha!!”
Poor Abram; maybe he was cracking up a little bit. The universe had been awfully hard on him of late…

- “Why,” began Alexis in a tone that implied infinite fascination, “would you, Enzo, think for a second that sticking yourself between me and bat-boy is going to stop me? If anything, it’s like lining the pins up. Are you daring me to go for a strike?!?”
Resisting the urge to ask and confirm that the werewolf had just made a bowling joke, Lydia deadpanned slightly and nodded to Darius’ question. “I’m positive…” she confirmed grimly before turning a little pink at Darius’s words. “D-Darius, I don’t think that’s what she meant…”
“Decency?! Ha! Vampires are just as bad as werewolves, we just don’t try and hide it! In fact, vampires are even worse because they do!” Alexis snarled, her eyes flashing. Clearly, Alexis and Darius were also not destined to be close pals. Moving forward as Enzo did and dragging Lydia away, the she-wolf sneered as she draped her head across Lydia’s chest to keep her from moving forward. “I hope you’re listening, Lydia! Did you hear what he said! He was going to say ‘if I was going to eat her, I’d have done it by now’! That means he’s thought about it! Heh! Just like a vampire…”
“Ngh, Alexis, cut it out…” Lydia grumbled in irritation, trying in vain to relieve the pressure of the werewolf’s head against her for a few seconds before giving up.
Enzo did his magical marvel with skill and proficiency, and yet his words seemed to be shortening his life by the second; Lydia could literally feel Alexis growing angrier and angrier with each cheerful comment he tossed her way. The human, forced into compliancy, lifted an eyebrow; sure the wizard was a tail chaser, but this seemed a bit extreme. Did he have a death wish of some sort? Was he bored, some sort of thrill seeker to whom baiting a werewolf would be seen as some sort of temporary high? Or did he really like Alexis? All of these probabilities seemed equal parts probable and improbable; had Lydia been in a state of mind to muse over it, it would have proven to be very confusing. But seeing as she’d had a very eventful day and seeing as Vidar’s promise of Darius’ pain being temporary was not one Lydia held in very high esteem, that was clearly an issue of minor importance to be sorted out at a later date, if ever. Relieved of the worry and stress, Lydia was left to look at Enzo with disbelief that was reflected by Alexis… at least, she thought it was reflected by Alexis… somewhere… underneath all of that rage…
“Call you names? I was just being honest.” Lydia reported a bit mechanically.
“Sug…ar… LEAF?!” Alexis was clearly so opposed to this newest pet name that she was too infuriated to articulate properly. “And was that a threat?! Are you challenging me?! Because I could take you in a heartbeat! I’ll rip off your arm and beat you to death wit… stop checking me out while I’m threatening you, damn it!!!!”
“Alexis…” Lydia started in a warning tone before Enzo’s words distracted her even from the sister-wolf that was practically frothing at the mouth with rage. “Lost his mind..?” she repeated slowly, frowning deeply. “Was that his object? Did… did it have something to do with those force fields, or whatever it was that Vidar was talking about?”
“I’m... going… to… maim you..!”
“Ah… good.” Lydia breathed at Darius’ assurance that he was alright. Those big gray eyes, at times so flat and empty, were at the moment tilting the exact opposite end of the scale, her relief never more obvious. Those expressive eyes then turned temporarily to Enzo. “I’m not sorry that I called you a pervert, because you are, but thank you for helping, Enzo.” she said with feeling (despite her statement’s rather blunt beginning).
“What the..?! What the heck are you bringing Dio into this for?!” Alexis fumed, bearing her teeth at the wizard threateningly. “I knew I shouldn’t have told you that! What was I thinking?!? Being honest with you!”
“You told him that I stepped on Dio’s tail and broke it?” Lydia, finally somewhat distracted from Darius’ plight, spoke in confusion… unable to even conceive how such a tidbit might have come up in conversation between the werewolf and the wizard. Their little combative relationship continued to confuse her.
“You should listen to your bloodsucker buddy!” Alexis added hotly. “Because, hey, he’s right about one thing: you’re going to get yourself killed!” she vowed for the umpteenth time before following Lydia’s retreat with no little reluctance. The change was completed and Lydia trailed behind, phone pressed to her ear and a careful mask of blankness coming to her face so automatically that it could only be a result of habitually having to take such calls. Alexis didn’t glance back to the human as she stomped back towards the two men, scoffing at Enzo’s inquiry after the person on the other end of the gray eyed girl’s call. “Someone I hate even more then I hate you, if you can imagine it.” the raven haired woman replied nastily. This time she wasn’t just acting out negative feelings towards Enzo; she hated and, more importantly, secretly feared Lydia’s father and, in true Alexis form, reacted to fear with aggression. The werewolf made a face at the wizard’s non-answer to her question. “That’s the biggest load of crap I’ve ever heard!” Alexis contested hotly. “You didn’t say anything like that! I’d swear to it!”
Clearly, Lydia was doomed to wrinkle early, as her brow was always puckered in a frown. Making her way back to Darius in a slow manner that clearly implied that there was a great load on her mind, the human studied her phone with a strange emotion that was a blend of irritation and pure mental exhaustion. Why did everything and everyone have to be difficult all at once? Like she hadn’t had enough to think about before the phone rang! Only Darius’ voice served as a proper distraction from the next stressor, and gray eyes locked onto his face for a long second before she answered, her voice perfectly calm and disinterested. “My father.” she answered him simply and moved on quickly. “Well… I know that… but that was clearly some horrible poison, Darius. Are you sure you’re alright?” she couldn’t seem to resist asking again. The memory of the man before her convulsing in pain flashed in her mind and she closed her eyes, tightening her hands into fists against her knees. That memory would haunt her, no doubt. “Alright.” she sighed reluctantly. “No hospital… but you have to promise me that if you start to feel badly again, you’ll tell me immediately and consent to a hospital visit.” she said, the steely note in her eyes and tone making it sound like some sort of business proposition like she would be demanding to move forward with in a boardroom. Really, the girl’s business mode did not go into sleep mode easily.
Enzo spoke and, though Alexis was ready and willing to lash back with venom at his words, she found they fizzled unpleasantly upon her lips. The she-wolf twitched and stared at Enzo in something almost like recognition; Allie… someone used to call her Allie. Who was it? The blue eyed woman shook her head and forced a scowl; no one had ever called her Allie! She hated nicknames, and would stand for none from her pack! Thinking that one of them would have gotten away with one, especially one as cutesy as Allie was simply ridiculous! But the strange notion did not leave her; Alexis closed her eyes and spoke in a growl. “See, that was me trying to be polite. Didn’t work. YES I’m trying to get rid of you! And you know I’m trying to get rid of you!”
Lydia sighed, rubbing at her temples, before looking up at Darius as he moved to her side. Her eyes, though tired, stayed alert as she gave him a once over –nope, still looked alive-- “Your apartment?” she repeated, then nodded, the concern back in her eyes. “Of course, Darius.” she agreed, only too eager to get the vampire somewhere where he could rest. Haha, it was almost like a victory! “Where do you live?”
“Remind me to nominate you for a Darwin award, Lydia. He’s clearly just luring you there so there won’t be as much of a problem when he has to dispose of your body.” Alexis grumbled.
“Have fun on your date with Enzo, Alexis.”
“W-Why you passive-aggressive little..!” Alexis dropped a twitching eye to their hands and studied them for a long moment until Enzo withdrew his. “Hey, look; I have something in common with the bloodsucking fiend that wants to do bad things to my human packmate. Neither of us want you touching us. It’s a funny world.”
Lydia would have spoken up in objection to yet another outright—and extremely unfair—accusation from Alexis towards her business partner, had she not been suddenly distracted from her words against her will by Enzo. Specifically, the cheeky wizard’s mention that Cassey, her sister, and two ‘dogs’ were there together, which brought up her memory from her brief interlude in the amusement park with Darius. She thought she’d heard Cassey’s voice, calling for Abram… and yes, it had been Dog, not a dog, that had also been mentioned. Dog would be the only person Abram could puppy-dog eye into going on a double date with him on such short notice. It was the only logical conclusion Lydia could come to, though it was admittedly seasoned with prejudice: Abram had asked Cassey out, Cassey had accepted, the two of them had asked family to come along to make the first date a little less awkward. Sure, there were other possible explanations, but to a girl in love with someone she had steeled herself never to confess to, the one she settled on was the only one that made sense. The expressions so clearly shown in her eyes moments before vanished behind quiet disinterest that came as almost second nature to her when she was trying to pretend that she didn’t love Abram, and though her eyes flicked to the side she showed no other outward sign of the unexpected jolt of pain Enzo’s words had pushed through her chest.

- “Tch, you stupid…” Alexis started in irritation, glancing at Lydia. Perhaps she should have told her, given her some sort of advanced warning that Abram had been taking steps (confused, somewhat backwards steps, but steps all the same) to take Cassey out on a date, should have explained the confusing mix-up that also lead to her date with Enzo. Perhaps she should have outright told Lydia that Cassey was Abram’s attar, and that she would never be able to do or say anything to outmaneuver destiny, no matter how clever she claimed to be. No, there was no perhaps; she should have told her. And she would have, had she not been so busy being enraged with Enzo. Feeling a slight flicking of shame, which she never dealt well with, the female werewolf huffed angrily before stomping back to Lydia, plopping her hands on her head, and promptly scrubbing her brown tresses into a frenzy.
“Yah! Alexis, what are you doing?! Cut it out!”
“Giving you a good dose of werewolf scent. Consider it purified edu de Not-Get-Vampire-Eaten. Guaranteed to make you 100% unappetizing. Hold still and say thank you!”
“NO!” Lydia yelped as she finally escaped her overeager sister, an eye twitching horribly and looking about as happy as a wet cat. “I’m tired of being told I stink, thank you very much! And I’m not going to get eaten, so stop doing, thinking, and saying ridiculous things!”
“Hah!” Alexis took the human girl’s reaction with spunk far better then her mask of calmness and saw it as a clear signal that she’d done her part to make up for the injustice of not gossiping. Shooting Darius one last disapproving look, she now set herself to dealing with the repercussions of karma: keeping Enzo from saying anything else about Cassey, Abram, and any combination thereof. How to do this? “Ugh.” the raven haired she-wolf muttered as she stomped up to Enzo, grabbed his hand firmly, and proceeded to drag him away. “Let’s go, Kitty-boy. I don’t care where to, or what we do, as long as we do it already. This date’s lasted long enough!”
“Er..?” Lydia, parting the hair that obscured her eyes, stared after Alexis in complete disbelief. She liked to think that she and Alexis were relatively close, but she only understood the female werewolf about half the time, and even then ‘understood’ wasn’t always the right term. Deadpanning that all of Alexis’ raging and ranting had concluded in her being the one pulling Enzo away for the continuation of their date, Lydia sighed heavily and turned to Darius, the only sane person she knew (apparently), before blushing slightly and trying to fix her hair as best she could. “Darius… I’m… I’m sorry about her. Alexis is… not shy about her feelings, I’m afraid. And even worse at expressing them.” she tried to apologize with what she was positive was a VERY lame excuse. Lydia blinked, then sighed so heavily it was as if all of the breath was leaving her body. “Dealing with all of that, and you still want to be seen around me!” she marveled with a murmur. “You’re one of the most amazing men I’ve ever met, Darius. You must have the patience of a saint. I guess dealing with business as much as you have has opened you to a lot of experiences… but I can’t imagine what it would take to be that forgiving. Clearly, I have a lot to learn.” the girl conceded, rubbing the bridge of her nose. Oh, that’s right; on top of all of the other people that were getting on her nerves, Lydia herself was still supposed to be learning at Darius’ knee. Day two of their arrangement, and she was already forgetting the important things. Damn.
“Oh, to your home… yes, of course. ” she said, clearing her throat. She stepped forward as if to duck under his arm and offer some assistance in walking (clearly still suspicious on the state of his health), but caught herself, Alexis’ maniacal laughter (that hadn’t actually been a part of their exchange) echoing in her head. Great, now she smelled like werewolf when going to spend time with a vampire. Lydia was SO glad that she personally didn’t have to deal with all these scents and smells; it sounded like an exhausting pursuit. Offering Darius an apologetic little smile, the young woman took her place at the vampire’s side. Gray eyes blinked in slight surprise, and then she pressed her fist to her lips as she cleared her throat. “Ah, that…” she sighed, smiling slightly at Darius’ concession. Giving her an out; so sweet. “No, I don’t mind… in fact, if you don’t mind, I’d like to use you as a bit of a sounding board. Like I said, the call was from my father, and when it comes to him… well… I always feel better if I talk it out.” she admitted, feeling a little bit like a child and then admonishing herself. She and Darius were friends; these sorts of conversations were not only acceptable, they were expected!
“I think I told you that my mother and father split up when I was young…” she started slowly as they walked. “They started Fellowship Pharmaceuticals together… my mother had the business sense, but my father had the chemical background. When they split up, he took a good number of the company’s shares with him… not enough to be a controlling interest, but enough to make his voice in the company one that is particularly loud.” The gray eyed girl watched her feet as she walked, her hands folded demurely before her, but there was an analytical, textbook sort of way that she recited her own personal history. “If he’d wanted to, he could have been very influential in how the company was run under my mother… but he stepped aside and let her run as president on one condition.” Lydia remembered with a grimace. “And that was that, once a month, I would have to meet him for a special, private… ugh.” Lydia sighed and held up her fingers in the quoting motion. “‘Daddy-Daughter Date Night’. As long as mother allowed for that, he’d stay away from the company’s interests. And he mostly left us alone too; I’d get my weekend calls and he’d demand that I spent the holidays with him, but other then that I didn’t have to see him.” she said with a sour expression. “And, were this module still working, I wouldn’t complain. I’m too old to be bound by separation agreements as far as spending my time during the holidays goes, and one night with him a month isn’t bad. However… since mom died… he’s been calling a lot. And texting, and promising to visit. And actually showing up.” Here Lydia hesitated… how much should she say? “What I would like is your advice… the problem is, the more he is in my life, the more he wants to…… ‘cleans’ it. My father is… strange. I think he looks at me and still sees a child… a child who he has to protect. But his methods are, more often then not… um… well, deranged. It’s the strangest thing. He’s the most ridiculous man I’ve ever known. All of his fears and beliefs about every race but the human race he seems to have gotten from movies and books and superstitions that even the most human-elite minded see as outdated… and yet… based on these things… he’s willing to hurt people. Sometimes people I hardly know. Sometimes people I care for. And I’m afraid that the more he’s around, the more I have to worry about.” she was thoughtfully silent for a minute before proposing her question. “What I want to ask you is this… do you think it’s wise to try cutting him out of my life completely? I hesitate not because of his interest in the company; he could never use it to take it from me, or be any danger.” Lydia said with confident that might, with time, prove to be unfounded. “But I’m worried about the repercussions in my private life… knowing my father, he’ll decide that it’s the people I’m with that are influencing me to withdraw from him. He doesn’t know about you yet, fortunately, so you don’t have to worry about a crazy human,” she added with a smile and a stab at a joke, “But I’m afraid his attention will focus on Jacob’s pack… and Uncle Miser. Probably mostly, and firstly, on Mi.”

- Strangling the air just wasn’t doing it for Alexis anymore; at his comment about an ‘on button’, the dark haired she-wolf fully realized how much she wanted to strangle him for real! Her face turned a little red from rage and she balled her fists at her sides, fuming. It seemed like no matter what she said, the wizard was able to turn it around on her! Usually in a perverted way! Alexis was used to absolutely dominating any argument and intimidating perverts like Enzo into silent, simpering submission… something Enzo was clearly showing no intention of doing. “I..! You..!” she stuttered, her eye twitching. She couldn’t even form a proper, coherent sentence; that’s how angry she was! “Fun?! You seriously need to get a hobby!” she sputtered hotly, her face still red. Irritation refusing to be sated, the werewoman let loose a disbelieving snort at his next words. “Tch,” Alexis looked away with a disbelieving snort. “If the vamp woman’s staying in line, it’s because there’s a werewolf around to keep an eye on her.” she snipped. Alexis had seen Nick’s wife once across a crowded room and remembered the woman as over the top enthusiastic and suspiciously cheerful. Alexis hadn’t liked her one bit even at a distance, so she had no qualms whatsoever about bashing the loving mother. Of course, she wasn’t privy to the fact that Isabella was Darius’ sister… but, had she been, it would have only added fuel to the fire. So, thank heavens for small miracles. However, the woman’s thoughts were diverted and she puffed up in pride when Enzo admitted she had a small point was completely right about the inclination of races to evil. “Of course I’m right. Tch… and I suppose an occasional vampire could manage not to be completely rotten… but that’s probably so rare that we can't hope to actually ever meet one!” she sniffed knowingly before narrowing her eyes in a glare. “Touchy?! Who’s touchy?! I’m not touchy!” the raven haired she-wolf huffed.
Really, the smartest thing for Alexis to do would probably be to keep her mouth shut and finish her date with Enzo in surly silence. She tried it, arms crossed over her chest tightly, lips pressed into a thin line, eyebrow twitching… the young woman lasted four seconds. “Tch, that proves nothing. This little story only shows that the girl was as stupid as they were.” Alexis snapped, her brow furrowed as the irony of her saying such a thing flew harmlessly over her head. How embarrassed Alexis would be if she knew the truth about the things they were discussing! She was blissfully unaware, however, and continued in irritation. “He does all sorts of stupid things… too many to keep track of. I have more important things to be doing than thinking about the stupid s**t Dio does.” Really, they were covering a wide range of topics that might have threatened to bog down Alexis’ mind, but Enzo seemed to have a good handle of when to bring up something new to keep the woman from getting too caught up. Had she been a little calmer, it might have made her uneasy… but Alexis was far too busy being furious to think subtle nuances through properly. “You’ve got to be kidding.” Alexis huffed, making a good show of putting space between the two of them and rubbing her arm where he’d brushed against her. For some reason, such an offhanded touch gave her goosebumps which, of course, helped with her rage. “Oh yeah? How could it be worse? And you know what? Why don’t you hold your breath while I go find that deep longing for you that you seem to think I might have one day. No, go ahead, hold your breath. I’m sure it’ll be a quick thing to find.”
Alexis’ muttering rage stood as a strong contrast to the emotions Dog found himself experiencing; deep jade eyes locked onto Dina’s slight form for a long, disbelieving moment… and then he sighed heavily, dropping his head in defeat. So their tender moment had only mostly been for the schedule. Dog wasn’t sure how he’d be able to handle any more of that. Had he Abram’s openness or Clyde’s childishly flippant nature, he would have just given in to instinct and impulse and jumped on Dina for some unplanned ‘tender moments’. Catching himself with a start at his thoughts, Dog shook his head hard and ordered himself to focus. Dina was talking. Dina talking was important. The former witch took his hand and his eyes dropped to their interlocked digits instantly; her hand looked so delicate and elegant in comparison to his own. “Yeah… but…” he mumbled but cut himself off. His face turned dark red as Dina kissed his cheek and his eyes finally snapped to meet hers. Her words reassured him, since he was positive what she said about how she wouldn’t be wasting her time with him if he wasn’t worth her time was true, but being the awkward thing he was, he could only bring himself to nod mutely in reply.
Deep within the confines of the vampire apartment complex, Lydia was trying to understand the circumstances that being amidst vampires had placed her in. She nodded slowly, thoughtfully… and then tripped over her own feet when Darius added offhandedly that the werewolf scent had been a problem after all. “I see…” the young woman said with a small, embarrassed clearing of her throat and lifting her hand subconsciously to her head, as if to press the smell into her skull where it could offend no one’s nose. So she did smell offensive… that sold it; she was calling the pound as soon as she got home. Right after she bought a dog whistle. It was decided. Correcting herself with a discrete clearing of her throat, Lydia shook off silly threats for later and worked on concealing a small flinch. Though Darius was very good at concealing his emotions, even Lydia could tell that he was uncomfortable with where their conversation was going. Were it any other topic, Lydia’s learning at her mother’s knee would have demanded that she divert the talk to something that would make him a little more comfortable… but… the brunette couldn’t shake the feeling that this was an extremely important thing for her to understand. She could apologize for it later, but details needed explaining. So she plastered her blankest expression on her face and nodded, speaking calmly. “I understand. I won’t be insulted.” she promised, determined.
His explanation started off easy enough; Lydia nodded slowly in response to show that she was attentively listening. It felt like the day that went by where some werewolf wasn’t reminding her how ‘fragile’ humans were was an off day… the brunette was a bit encouraged by this reminder. Her interactions with the werewolf clan was going to serve her well in some way or another, and perhaps fortifying her for the entirety of Darius’ explanation was it! Her confidence quickly abated, however, by Darius’ next words. Something to own? Pets? Indignation flared within the young woman’s chest and she pressed her lips together firmly, struggling to keep her feelings from showing on her face. She’d been expecting to discover that humans were seen in a less than desirable light by the general vampire populace; humans were food after all. But the brunette had come to the conclusion at some point that vampires would think of their food they way that she did hers; it was just there, and there to be consumed. That’s it. No other thoughts or feelings as long as the food supply wasn’t wanting. But, apparently, that wasn’t the case. A pet? There was something so belittling about being seen as a pet. Again, her reaction was probably at least partially attributable to her time spent with the werewolf packs, where keeping animals as pets was seen as disrespectful and dictatorial, a thing looked down upon by their werewolf peers. But she couldn’t completely blame her furry friends; the gray eyed girl’s pride took a bit of a blow from Darius’ discerning explanation. She’d been struggling to be seen as a strong, confident, unshakable business leader among her own kind, where it was only her age and her inexperience that stood against her, but these were things she could conquer with time and people who were willing to give her a chance. But to be seen as on par with a show dog before she even had a chance to speak… what logical argument was there against that? What could she possibly do, how could she possibly assert herself in a way to even hope to properly gain the respect of the people who held such a belief? At first blush, it appeared that the answer to that question was nothing. Nothing? That couldn’t be right… the situation couldn’t be hopeless. Lydia refused to believe that, and shook the thought away before it could take root in her mind. She was determined; if there was a way, she’d just have to find it. Somehow…
“…I see.” Lydia had been silent for a long moment, probably a little too long, before she caught herself and spoke a bit tightly. Darius had gone about this topic gently, and his warning before he’d launched into the explanation had been one she had promised to: not to be insulted by the mindsets of people she had no control over. She was being ignorant even in the face of her promise, and the young woman was a little embarrassed of her feelings even as they continued to twist in her chest. She had to be adult about this. Struggling to maintain her professionalism, the gray eyed girl continued in a calm tone. “Thank you for telling me, Darius. I… can’t deny that I’m… surprised about how bad it really is.” she paused, hoping that hadn’t come across as bad as it sounded to her, and cast her mind about for a topic that she could focus on while getting her indignation under wraps. Surely there were more things to discuss on this topic, but Lydia understood relatively quickly that she needed to have her irritation under wraps before she started on that topic again. “So I’m your pet… heh. At least you never have to worry about taking me to the vet.” the woman said dryly, then gave herself a mental slap. That wasn’t moving on to another topic! Bad Lydia! Clearing her throat, the brunette started again in a softer tone. “Sorry… it’s going to take me a while to get used to that idea.” she explained a bit weakly, kicking herself. She certainly wasn’t making this topic easier on herself or on Darius. “S-So it’s the created vampires who mainly feel this way? How strange… I would think it would be the other way around. Ah… no offense, Darius; its comforting that at least you are trying to change things. It makes me want to help… except… I’m not sure how I could…” the businesswoman stopped herself and shook her head. The normally level headed Lydia was having a difficult time maintaining the status quo, and it was getting on her nerves. “I can’t imagine thinking that way about people like me… even if we weren’t alike anymore. It’s strange.”
Talk about the apartment distracted Lydia… for a moment. Her emotions calmed themselves, so be sure, but her thoughts were not to be distracted. “Created vampires?” Lydia asked with interest, a small frown on her lips as she mentally reviewed the vampires she had seen on their entrance to his apartment. Once upon a time, they had been like her, human… and now held ideals that seemed so far detached from their roots that it was baffling to someone like Lydia. “Ideas? What sort of ideas…” the young woman started to question, but was interrupted by a phone call.
“Perhaps… but your sister seems like the sort that wouldn’t be able to stand idly by around a person like my father.” Lydia giggled softly, something about her expression tired at the thought. Her expression became more drawn as he repeated her words, and she nodded. “Every single month. And if he can catch me on the third, he starts singing. And hugging. And bringing out the baby pictures. And crying, if he gets too far down memory lane.” she admitted, flashing back to her father’s embarrassing displays of the past with a small twitch. “I suppose.” she sighed, lowering her eyes to the ground. If Darius had been uncomfortable with talking about the views of his vampire neighbors, Lydia was uncomfortable talking about her father’s notorious past. The man was backwards thinking, racist, violent, obsessive… every possible trait and feeling that could serve to concern and shame his daughter. To relate his details to someone she esteemed as highly as Darius… well, it was difficult. She laughed a bit weakly at Darius’ attempts to ease the tension, her appetite having abandoned her for the moment, and gave him a small smile. “Think so? That would make his year… it’d be the justification he’s always known he’d had for thinking the way he does.” she added with a small roll of her eyes. Her eyes dropped back to the floor at his tone, and she shook her head mutely. “None taken.” she replied simply. She’d endured far worse things sneered her way about her father, that was for sure. Another shake of the head answered Darius’ inquiry about her father’s motives for focusing on wizards; her father’s motives were always shifting and difficult to pin down. A strange sort of smile settled on her lips as Darius spoke about meeting her father. “You’ll never have to.” she said in a determined tone. There might have been a bit of a slip with the wizards in her life, but in general Lydia was used to being as sneaky about who she was with as her father was about stalking her. Of course, it was never a consistent thing, but Lydia was determined the vampire wouldn’t have to deal with her problematic father. “Just because you’re involved with me doesn’t mean you should have to deal with someone like him, Darius. And I’ll be doing my best to make sure you don’t have to.” she vowed, already plotting.

- “I don’t think he’s following me. I’m pretty sure I’d have heard from him directly that he was following me if he was by now.” she admitted dryly. But her phone buzzed and brought her the answer to her father’s newest obsession, along with the strangest urge to slam her head against the nearest desk. Apparently, she had alarmed Cassandra’s guardian needlessly. Only his laughter distracted her, and gray eyes lifted a bit hesitantly to trace over Darius’ face. He was taking the idiocy of her personal life well, considering, and, after a long several seconds spent simply staring at him, a ghost of a smile settled on her lips. “You and me both.” she said before a small laugh of her own escaped her. The whole situation was so amazingly ridiculous! There was a bit of a grateful look on her face as she looked back to Darius, and her admiration for the man increased. He was being so good about all of this nonsense… his professionalism was amazing! It was one of those moments that would have led to little stars forming in her eyes had she not already been stubbornly struggling to maintain her expression.
“Ah…” peaking around his arm at the contents Isabella had stocked her brother up with, the young woman’s morose attitude faded a bit at the sight of Jacob’s blood cookery. Big gray eyes blinked, and then an amused sort of expression settled on her face. “Hey, are those made of blood?” she asked, sounding delighted. How smart! “So these came from Jacob? I guess I shouldn’t be surprised; that man’s a genius in the kitchen. But I have to say, I never knew he could make things like this. What a clever idea... I see; like this, you don't have to trouble yourself with finding a way to carry it around.” Resisting the urge to poke the nearest cookie, Lydia made a mental note to lavish Jacob with more praise about the cooking that was feeding the two of them that night and laughed lightly. “Oh well. The wolves will be heartbroken, I’m sure, but Jacob can always make more.” she answered lightly.
“Hm? Oh, Darius you don’t have to go to the trouble. I usually don’t…” Lydia started with a sheepish smile. Her expression cleared, and she looked at him curiously. “Never?” she questioned, quieting for the vampire’s story… and deadpanned slightly. “T-They actually passed out from hunger?” she asked a bit disbelievingly. The sweet, adorable little faces she had seen in Isabella’s pictures flashed in her mind, and the human scratched her cheek. Lydia glanced up from under her lashes at Darius and quickly moved a hand to her lips to hide a smile as well as she could. “Yes, you should. Passing out from hunger is acceptable the first time, but only the first time. I’m sure those poor kids look forward to visiting with their Uncle Darius… not to waking up in the hospital.” she teased gently, patting his arm with her free hand. “It’s easy.” she said, popping the microwave door open and placing her pasta inside. “You just punch in the numbers and hit start. Oh, and make sure not to put it in for too long, or the food will explode.” she said, looking at him encouragingly before offering him a warm smile. “Hey, at least that’s one good thing about having a human around… we’re good with microwaves.” she added in good humor.
Meanwhile, at the Wolf’s Bane, embarrassing things were happening. Namely, the revealing of embarrassing first names. Dog’s face was red and his eyes were lowered in annoyance as Dina repeated his; only the realization that Clyde was in the clinging mood distracted him, and as Dina pulled away Dog stepped forward to catch his wolf brother in the chest before he could spring after and tackle his new sister. Of course, this meant that Dog subjected himself to the love fest, which he endured in grumpy silence.
“Ah, I’m glad to hear that.” Mary said with a tiny sweat drop; Dina certainly didn’t sound like she was budding over with excitement after a long day at the amusement park. Then again, Dina seemed to be of a somewhat stern inclination by nature, so the blonde woman thought that, perhaps, this wasn’t too unusual. Warm blue eyes blinked in surprise as Dina first admitted to having found her attar, and her face warmed in a smile at the correction. Watching Dina for a long several seconds, Mary pressed her fingers to her lips to mask that grin as she watched the serious young woman go about business. “There are no particular customs. Going out and doing things together… or staying in and doing things together. Really, just being together is what matters for our kind. So there’s nothing for you to worry about in that respect.” Mary assured her.
“Yes ma’am!” Clyde replied smartly with a little salute when Dina addressed him. One second before he had been half way up Dog, clinging to him like a monkey, but in a flash he was before Dina, wiggling in excitement. It was a marvel to every werewolf watching that the little guy hadn’t popped his tail out just so he could have another venue through which to release his excitement. Stars activated in his big blue eyes when Dina gave him his role; his acceptance was clear even without words, but he offered them anyway. “Embarrassing stories? I can do that!” he said with enthusiasm. “I know lots of ‘em! Maybe not as many as Abram, but almost as many! I’ll give you the scoop anytime!” If Dina’s plan was indeed like a sort of sitcom, then Clyde was eating it up with a spoon; he responded with an enthusiastic nod to each step of Dina’s detailed plan. “Sounds like fun! How will I know Enzo’s favorite vase? Is it shaped like a woman?”
Alexis was spared most of this latest of Clyde’s enthusiastic exclamations on life by Enzo, but the blue eyed werewolf didn’t seem particularly grateful. Her eyes narrowed at his words threateningly. “Jealous?! Me?! Ha! You wish!” she sneered with an indignant sniff. What a ridiculous notion!! Of course she wasn’t jealous! Who did he think she was?! Alexis didn’t actually get a chance to say any of that, however, and kept her evil eye locked on the wizard as he returned his attention to Dina.
Dog, relieved of his Clyde-sized burden, found that the embarrassing weight of this situation was not to be lifted yet. Dina spoke so matter-of-factly about their future intimacy while Dog himself turned red as brick and had difficulties breathing properly at the very thought. Only the speaking of his first name rousted him, and he narrowed his eyes slightly at Enzo’s use of it. “Don’t call me that.” he ordered in a grumble. But the recitation of what Enzo had written caused him to stumble over words he hadn’t even said yet, the redness coming back to his face. But if that tripped him up, it was nothing compared to when Dina actually seemed to be agreeing to the plan. That was all it took; Dog’s mind was back in the gutter and there was a definite heat in his face. “D-Dina… you..? What..? W-We could..?” he stuttered even as Dina turned away in a business-like manner. What did she mean? He could have asked… but he was too busy being frozen and a pervert. Darn.
“Oh my…” Mary giggled.
“Hm.” Jacob offered in reply to Enzo’s elbow nudging. He was a content man, Jacob, but obviously not a jovial one.
Arriving late to the party, Dio pushed open the door to the Wolf’s Bane, his head hung and looking like a kicked puppy. His eyes lifted, fell on Alexis, and instantly brightened. She’d come back! She wasn’t cheating on him! It was a bright, shiny day again! There was a beautiful breeze, the birds were singing; all was right in the world! In a second she would turn to look his way and they would run towards one another in slow motion, arms extended and stars in their eyes as they embraced. …not that they had ever done such a thing before in the past, but Dio was in the mood to be dramatic. He waited with bated breath for her to turn his way… waited… and waited… and deadpanned when he realized his lover hadn’t even noticed he’d entered the bar. “Heeeey…!” he whined, not appreciating that little display at all.
Oblivious to her teary eyed boyfriend as she was, the situation was actually kind of funny, and Alexis, as annoyed as she was, was almost inclined to laugh at Enzo’s plight and Dina’s plucky way of turning the tables… however she was planning to do that. He eye snapped to the side at movement and a warning growl escaped her as Enzo eased his way closer to her. He was either incredibly gutsy or incredibly confident, because the warning growl served as no warning whatsoever seeing as it didn’t prevent him from flinging an arm around her like he had a right to do it. “Get the hell off of me, you pervert.”
“Dio, if you stand there with your mouth open like that for much longer, flies are going to get in.” Matty spoke to his packmate gently. He too was a little surprised that they weren’t currently witnessing Alexis maim herself a wizard, but the wolf in glasses took it as a sign that Alexis was mastering her anger. Which wasn’t even slightly true, but it made Matty happy.
“L-List?” Dog managed to get out, coming out of what felt like a mild coma. Dina was handing him something –what was she handing him?—and nodded before stopping himself quickly, just in case he was agreeing to something he shouldn’t be. “My schedule? Er… well… I don’t have it on me. It… it changes a lot.”
“Don’t listen to him, Dina! His schedule is completely flexible; dead people don’t go anywhere, so he can get to them whenever.” Clyde assured Dina, immune to the ‘are you kidding?’ look Dog shot him.
“Oh, that’s right… we haven’t even exchanged numbers yet.” Dog remembered, dragging his withering glare away from Clyde and scratching the back of his head.
“Ugh. Do you listen to yourself when you speak!?” Alexis started to try to talk over Enzo, but found herself suddenly cut short by a woman’s voice. The scent came quickly afterwards, one noticed by all as the eyes of every werewolf in the bar cut to the door and the new arrivals. A sneer worked itself across the pretty werewolf’s face, and her tone was downright nasty as she looked at Enzo. “Friend of yours?” His hands came to rest on her shoulders, and before Alexis could react properly she was being pushed. Fully expecting to be in the middle of another inappropriate kiss, the woman was completely and utterly surprised to suddenly find herself in the arms of her fiancé. Blinking in surprise, the she-wolf was speechless, looking up at the equally surprised Dio before looking back to Enzo. “H-Hey! Stop the pushing! What the hell do you think you’re doing, Enzo?!” she stuttered as the wizard efficiently booted the two of them from the bar. Alexis was infuriated, and turned to stomp back inside. She would have too, if Dio hadn’t caught her hand. “Ngh... that damn wizard… who does he think he is?! Think I’m going to go away just like that?! No way! I’m going to get back in there! No one has a right to push me out, damn it!”
“You kissed him? Again? Whhhhhy, Alexis, whyyyyy?!” Dio whimpered, kicked puppy eyes out in full force.
“S-Shut up, Dio! I did not! It was his fault! He was just... I just... gah! Stop crying! You're both idiots, and I'm going to kill you both!” the furious she-wolf vowed loudly.

- Abram grinned; despite her openly forward personality, the werewolf was sufficiently amused at Ka’s intentions. Confidence and a cheeky nature were highly prized among werewolves in general, but something about her reminded him of someone, or at least gave the young werewolf the impression that she reminded him of someone. Like an overly friendly aunt, or something. So her chuckled, shaking his head at the woman’s declaration that she wanted to make puppies with him. “Oh well; maybe next time, right?” he joked as Ka withdrew. The female Council member’s assurance that Cassey wouldn’t mind a polite kiss was met with a bit of a strained laugh. “No… I doubt she would.” he admitted. With his luck, Cassey would come to the conclusion that Ka was his lady love and then go about doing everything to ensure they’d be happy together forever. “But I would mind.” he added with a small, charming smile. “Ah… and of course. Well, I guess we’ll be right back.” the werewolf shot one last look at Cassey before following Lance outside.
“Oh, right.” Abram answered out of instinct when Lance explained how he’d so easily been able to come to the conclusion that Cassey was his attar. He probably should have guessed that Enzo would be suspicious (cats often were when it came to Abram) about his intentions, and though he wasn’t quite sure why he would come up in conversation involving a bunch of wizards, he supposed it made sense that they would have more than enough knowledge about the world to understand what Abram’s attachment meant. Especially if they had the proof of Ka’s interaction to back them up… though, if Abram were to be honest, with a woman as forward as Ka, guys like himself probably could get scared off with ease, and therefore it didn’t seem to prove much in the werewolf’s eyes. Not that he said as much aloud, of course. Green eyes cut to study the wizard a bit discretely. Enzo had seemed less than pleased with Abram’s irreversible bonding with his young student, even without an open admission from Abram himself. How would a Council member react to the same tidings. Not well… however, Abram got the impression that it was more than just his own case bothering this particular wizard.
Abram hadn’t the slightest idea what Lance had wanted to talk about when the two of them had left the apartment, but if he’d taken the time to hazard a guess, he was relatively sure he would have never predicted where the wizard would direct their conversation. Apparently, though Abram had always been under the impression that he knew his own kind relatively well, there was still a lot for him to learn. He shook his head wordlessly at Lance’s assurance that Odin was indeed a werewolf, not to disagree with him or to express any form of sincere disbelief, but just because it was such a strange, amazing concept for him to grasp. Werewolves lived in fear of the Great Wizard Odin, the sort of fear that was coupled with an intense respect for the power he held and for the threat he continued to be, even when he didn’t seem to be around. That man, a typical villain in werewolf children’s bedtime stories, actually a werewolf? It was ironic; that’s what it was. Weirdly, strangely ironic. Remembering he was supposed to be actively listening, the werewolf directed his attention back to Lance who, apparently, also needed a bit of a mental pause. This mental pause came in the form of Enzo and his lady love… of the past. Abram, tempted to smile at the idea of the outrageously flirtatious wizard getting tamed by one of the beauties he pursed, stilled and frowned instead when Lance replied to the state of Cassey’s teacher’s marriage with a resounding ‘was’. The werewolf cocked his head to the side in guarded curiosity. Had the wizard and his weregirl split, or had something… happened? Listening closely, a half smile tugged at Abram’s lips as Lance described the sort of relationship Enzo had held with ‘Allie’.
“So she’d never admit that she was his attar?” he asked in amusement. Yup; the faceless woman deemed ‘Allie’ in his mind was likable, cheeky, able to keep a hold of Enzo, adorably embarrassed about how much the perverted wizard meant to her. It was strange, really, that a man could be talking to him about a member of his own pack and Abram wouldn’t know it. Prejudice is a strange thing. Just because Abram would never dream that Alexis could be this ‘Allie’ Lance talked about, traits related to him that, in other contexts, would have made him instantly think of Alexis did nothing of the sort. Things like bickering were viewed in Abram’s mind as two separate things; the bickering the blonde could just picture Enzo doing with his faceless werewolf lover was quippy, secretly gentle, done in good humor… while the bickering Enzo did with Alexis was violent, nasty, and probably fatal. Abram might have laughed about it if he’d been in a position to understand how strong his misconceptions were. Of course, this misconception was a good thing; it was a hard enough blow for Abram to suddenly be faced with the fact that this nameless woman and her unborn child, the creatures Enzo had loved, were dead. It would have been a much harder one had he completely understood that Allie was not just some girl from Enzo’s past, but a young woman he himself cared about. “Killed…” the word fell flat from his lips, and after a second of sad and solemn silence he shook himself and nodded a bit shortly. He could hardly imagine… “Sure. I mean… I won’t bring it up.” he stumbled over an assurance. Such deep, deep wounds deserved to be dealt with according to the wishes of the one that bore them; Abram only made a mental note to mention to Alexis that she might want to ease up on the hatred when the wizard was around and then vowed not to mention it aloud again if he could help it. After all, even though Abram and Enzo weren’t exactly buddy-buddy, there was a certain sort of common bond from having someone they cared for with all their heart, and Abram could sympathize with the loss. If he were to somehow loose Cassey, even this soon after having found her…
“Yeah, it doesn’t make much sense.” Abram spoke quickly; he needed that thought out of his head, and he needed it out now! “I mean, it’s practically bred into us to protect the pack, not destroy it. Even those lone wolves, the ones that make up that pack… a good deal of them didn’t leave their original packs. They were driven away, usually because they did something wrong, something to endanger the rest of the pack. And that has to be something very bad.” he amended with a grimace. As much as werewolves liked to insist that they were segregated from the animal world, they were very alike to their wolf counterparts in the ways their packs worked. But Abram frowned at Lance’s statement about Vidar. If the wizard did indeed have werewolf blood, the urge to settle with a pack, his pack, should have been instinctive. Even though werewolves could chose to live apart from their packmates due to certain circumstances, such as the one Nick found himself in, it was rare indeed that they would chose to do so as a preference. However, Lance took the cake when he informed his blonde companion just who Vidar thought his attar was; green eyes snapped to him almost severely, and there was no effort made to hide the shock on his face. He’d never heard this detail. It was whispered lore in werewolf packs the world over that Jacob, his own pack’s alpha, had stood up against the wizard Vidar and defeated him. No one really knew how, and in general no one cared; the werewolf had triumphed, and generally that was all that mattered. Abram couldn’t ever remembering hearing whisper over why Jacob had felt needed to raise hand against Vidar, a rarity since Jacob was a peaceful man, and out of the great respect they all had for him he’d never asked. Of course, it made perfect sense that Jacob would fight for Mary, his attar, his everything. He shook his head wordlessly before forcing a reply through his shock. “His attar… jeeze.” Abram rubbed at his chin and shook himself. “Yeah, that’s right. One attar a pair; our biology actually changes to sync with our attar, or something like that… so it’s hard to imagine anyone seeing someone who had already found their attar as even a possible attar.” he murmured. He needed Dog here to go into the sciency details behind all of this, but he thought he had the general idea of what Lance was asking him. “Sure, every once in a while people claim it happens… but I’ve never seen it last. We can fall in love with people that aren’t our attar… we just can’t stay happy with them. We get restless… I guess, no matter what we think and feel, it’s not really in our nature to settle for less than exactly what we need in that department.” he admitted, scratching the back of his head. Really, werewolves were a rather weird lot themselves, and it wasn’t until he found himself discussing it aloud like this that Abram even had a chance to think about it. “If you can be logical about it… then it’s not the attar. I think you have it right. Thinking instead of feelings… that’s not how it works.” Abram sighed with a small frown. Hey, at least he already had experience in this particular topic to contribute to the discussion. How many times in just the last two days had he acted instead of thought? Abram had a feeling he’d be a bit embarrassed to know for sure.
Clearly, this was a strange situation. Abram didn’t think he’d ever had to turn over a man like Vidar in his thoughts before. A man who was both wizard and werewolf, and who was somehow exempting himself from the obligations of each? It was bizarre… and understandably worrisome. “So… if he was stuck on what he thought was his attar, then Vidar must know about his dad being a werewolf. What about Cassey? And Dina? Do they know?” poor Abram just couldn’t help asking. He had a feeling that if the purple eyed witchling that had run away with his heart had any knowledge of her heritage, he’d have heard about it by now. Best to ask and make sure.

“Locate. Right.” Abram repeated a bit mechanically at Lance’s clarification of what it was the Council wanted from his group. He nodded as Lance informed him of his plans to address the alpha; it was proper werewolf protocol, and it came to him as no surprise. A strange sort of smile settled on his lips as he pictured Jacob’s normal glowering countenance. Poor guy; he didn’t mean to be so gosh darn intimidating. “Ah. Well, you’ve got the person you need on your side, I guess. Not that you’d have to worry much anyway. Jacob’s always going to give people who come to him about our Rogue hunting group a chance… Alexis is going to be the one that wants to rip your arm off. Watch out for her.” he chuckled, thinking of his angry raven haired sister. She was the sort that found something to be angry at and directed that anger towards all of its kind. A bird pooped on her car; Alexis hated all birds. A child kicked her in the shin, she hated all children. A wizard got on her nerves; the whole of wizardom was going to get snarky hatred as repayment. These were generally temporary furies… er… except for maybe that last one. Abram would have to keep an eye on her in regards to that last one.
Yup, Cassey was sunshine; just basking in her presence made the heavy topics he had been discussing with Lance seem a little less formidable. Of course, he remembered that just staring at the young woman one was ‘secretly’ in love with wasn’t usually socially acceptable and conversation was required… thus, Abram tripping over the sports thing. Soccer? He looked at the girl and might have inquired as to her interest in the sport, but the sweet little creature continued on about Odin vs. Dina’s prom date, and the poor werewolf blanched a bit. He doubted any amount of soccer talk would ender him to Cassey’s father, especially after his group took steps to hunt the man down. Operation Impress Odin was a failure, and it wasn’t even off the ground yet. Man, it was a bad day for Operations. Shaking off this thought, the werewolf ambled after his attar, preparing himself for another tail wagging moment. Yay, Cassey’s cooking! Poor Abram; if only he weren’t weak to salt, he might have been able to make something of a showing, had struggled to eat what Cassey had obviously put her heart into. But in this, like so many things with Abram recently, he fell flat on his face.
“N-No, I like it… it’s just…” he started weakly, scrambling to think of the right thing to say here. But taste and smell were linked and his senses were in a temporary scramble; it took a hard shake to get his head right again, and at the end of it he saw that it was already too late to stop Lance from gulping down a bowl of Cassey’s soup. Lance was clearly a loyal, good intentioned, warm hearted man, and Abram felt for him as the wizard went running to the bathroom. Just one spoonful had knocked Abram for a loop; he didn’t know how one was to manage a whole bowlful. Ka prowled after her fellow Council member and Abram found himself left alone with Cassey; the werewolf set his mind back to scrambling for the right thing to say. He didn’t want to hurt her feelings, especially not when she had been so excited about this meal! But at the sight of her face all ability to plan the right things to say left him; her disappointment was tangible, and the werewolf stood immobile for a long moment as the little witch sank to the ground and hugged herself. Slowly he sunk to crouch before her. “Upset? I don’t think he could ever be upset with you for something like this. Not when you’re trying so hard. You’ve known Darius for a long time, right? I’m sure he’d know it’s the thought that counts.” Abram said, meeting her eyes. It wasn’t as difficult to talk about his rival as usual, but the werewolf supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised; nothing was as sad or painful or uncomfortable as Cassey’s unhappiness. Everything else paled in comparison. She apologized, and his lips twitched into a small smile. “Cassey…” he started, but trailed off as she launched into her explanation as to why her food turned out so… seasoned. For a long minute Abram just stared at her, and then he couldn’t hold back a small chuckle. “You are so cute.” he said softly, shifting his weight towards her and knocking her bangs aside so that he could press a kiss against her forehead. Leaning back slightly, he grinned at her encouragingly. “It’s the thought that counts, Cass. Why don’t we do the cooking thing together next time? I’ll read the instructions so you don’t have to.” he offered with a warm smile.
Of course, Abram’s reassurances were probably unnecessary, because when Lance came back and said the magic words Cassey was off like a shot. Abram blinked, chuckled, and rose to his feet, leaning against the counter and ‘discretely’ munching on one of the burnt chicken wings and Cassey flew about getting ready. The man couldn’t handle salt, but if it was one capable of fighting back, he could eat it. Chicken was chicken… and hey, it wasn’t even the most burnt chicken he’d ever had! Abram made a mental note to introduce Cassey to Clyde’s method of cooking and dropped the bones of his snack into the trashcan before following the trio before him out of the door. Brushing his hands off and sliding them into his pockets, his green gaze returned to Lance and a single brow lifted.
“Yeah, I got that. Seems like they’d be a good match.” he joked with an easy smile as he fell in at the man’s side. His eyes drifted to Cassey’s back and rarely strayed anywhere else during the entirety of their walk to the Wolf’s Bane. There was some sort of commotion going on if his ears didn’t betray him, and Abram lifted an eyebrow as they approached. The noise was not of danger of violence, just… loud excitement, the norm in his pack. The four of them entered the bar to a bit of a strange scene. Having caught Enzo’s eye, Jacob had moved his impressive form in front of the door Alexis and Dio had been so unceremoniously pushed through, his expression unreadable. Reading the situation, Mary hopped to her feet again and quickly moved towards the newest arrivals, Ka and Lance, with a smile.
“Hello … welcome to the Wolf’s Bane. Are you friends of Enzo… ah, and Dina?” the woman’s nose alerted her to more friendly connections, and she brightened. “Oh! And Cassey and Abram too! Welcome back, you two! Did you have fun at the park?” she asked, apparently eager for information about how the ‘dates’ had turned out, but schooling herself to patience.
“Hey guys.” Abram greeted his pack with a good humored grin. His second mom was so easy to read, and the urge to tease her was strong. “It was okay. We came here for food. What’s cooking?”
“CASSEEYYY!” Clyde, overcome with excitement on seeing both of his new sisters (acknowledged and unacknowledged) in the same period of time sailed through the air to tackle the young witch in a hug. His expression childishly curious, the werewolf leaned back a bit to sniff at her, snort, and then lift an eyebrow. “Ah... your cooking? What happened?”
“Well, a bit of everything. You see, Nick came by this morning, and you know how long it's been since we've seen him. I get to talk to Isabella more then I get to talk to that boy! Not that I don't absolutely love talking to Isabella, because she's a real dear, but it was good to see him. I also stole one of his pictures of his kids, and they are just adorable. Oh, but the point is, Nick was here for an order of human food, and he practically cleaned us out. I can't say I remember him giving a reason for why... but I'm sure it's just because they love Jacob's food!” she said with a proud little giggle despite herself. She did love her Jakey-poo. Blue eyes blinked, then turned to Lance curiously. “Yes, I’m Mary. Is there..?” she found herself cut off by Ka and blinked at the woman in confusion, making no effort to move back from the cheek poking. The kind woman’s jaw dropped a little as Ka continued, and poor Mary’s expression clearly showed that she didn’t know how to deal with such casually insulting comments. “I-I beg your pardon?” she questioned as if she hadn’t heard Ka right, shooting a pleading look at the werewolf growls that were already bubbling forth. They were a rough bunch, werewolves, but they did not take kindly to Mary criticism. Everybody loved Mary. A hint of a blush in her cheeks as she directed her eyes to Lance, Mary wordlessly looked to the pack’s alpha.
”You need to speak to me?” Jacob’s deep rumble echoed across the bar, and he moved forward to look at Lance and Ka sternly. Mary’s eyes seemed to hold a sort of command that she made no effort to vocalize and the large man obeyed in silence, crossing his arms over his chest and finally slapping the chopping knife down on the nearest table. “What about?”
“Hey…” clearing his throat and rolling his eyes discretely at Ka, Abram stepped forward to ease the tension, wrapping an arm around Mary’s shoulders. “It’s something kind of important, Jacob… why don’t we get set up in here for dinner. I’m starving.”
“You’re always starving.” Mary said with a demure little smile.
“And while you’re at it, Cassey and Dina... oh, hi Dina, what are you doing here? Hm. Well, Cassey and Dina can explain everything that happened at the amusement park today. It was crazy. Dog fought an endangered species and Dina got us a bunch of free stuff by scaring some managers. It was awesome. We're probably still wanted back there ever, but it was still fun.”
“I'm sure you're just exaggerating; you guys wouldn't go to a place like that to cause problems on purpose.” Mary, her smile firmly back in place, swatted Abram’s arm before ducking out from under it, reaching to extend a hand to each of the Watson sisters. “Pack business, girls. Come on, let's leave Jacob and your friend to talk. The faster they get done, the faster Jacob can get back to finishing up the cooking. Would you like something to drink?” she directed this last question towards Ka and Lance, a small smile on her lips even as she looked at Ka. She was a very forgiving woman, that Mary.
Jacob, his eyes still on his wife, nodded in silent consent before looking to Lance and nodding his head towards the back of the bar. “You two can come on back to the kitchen. It's quiet, and private. And I can fix you your drinks while you talk.” he amended Mary's offer. Not waiting for the consent of the wizards Jacob turned to able towards the back, pausing only to shoot Abram a long, thoughtful look. The blonde werewolf sighed and obeyed the silent command, sliding from his comfort zone of inches away from Cassey and following Jacob into the kitchen. Something that was cooking sounded delicious, and Abram's attention was divided between keeping his mouth from watering and keeping an ear open for Cassey. Not like he thought she wouldn't be safe in the Wolf's Bane... he just liked knowing exactly where she was and what she was doing at any period of time, like any good stalker. Abram's eyes widened and he tripped over his own feet, running into the doorway when he realized that he was referring to himself as a stalker. Hey, that wasn't right! Just because anyone else who thought and acted around Cassey the way he did would be seen as a stalker in Abram's eyes didn't mean his biased suspicion applied to himself as well. A hand came to rest on his shoulder and the green eyed werewolf craned his neck back to see Jacob looking at him in barely readable concern, an eyebrow lifting. “Are you okay?”
“Just peachy.” Abram assured him with a grimace as he righted himself. Abram didn't have any intention of moving into the depths of the kitchen, choosing instead to stand sentinel by the kitchen door. It was the opportune place to both serve as any help to Jacob and keep a relatively good eye on Cassey. It was win-win! Leaning against the door frame, the young man stayed silent, waiting for Lance to broach the subject in his own way.
“Hm.” Jacob didn't sound extremely convinced but said no more, releasing his packmate's shoulder and moving into the kitchen. Shifting his massive fame around to lean against one of the counters and crossing his arms over his chest again, Jacob's dark eyes moved to the spell caster. “What is it that you wanted to speak to me about?” he asked, straight to the point.

- “Well, a bit of everything.
“What is it that you wanted to speak to me about?” he asked, straight to the point.

he's EMOTION while she's EMOTION; and he's LOCATION while she's LOCATION
Strangling the air just wasn’t doing it for Alexis anymore; at his comment about an ‘on button’, the dark haired she-wolf fully realized how much she wanted to strangle him for real!

- Talk about the apartment distracted Lydia… for a moment.
“I don’t think he’s following me.
You're both idiots, and I'm going to kill you both!” the furious she-wol
