Religious Overview:
• Their religion and culture widely reveres the sun.
• They recognize a sun deity and pay him tribute and worship.
• They have a "fire is sacred" mentality.
• Incendians perform their worship primarily through hosting big festivals with spectacles like fireworks and performances.
• Their religion embraces elaborate festivals, sacrifices, and cultural decadence much more than actual spirituality.
• Their religion has become entwined inseparably with their trade-based culture; celebrations allow Incendians to show off their wealth and encourage tourism.
• The focus of Incendian sacrifice and worship primarily to please and entertain the god(s), rather than to grow spirituality or to gain special favor.
• They believe that successful worship discourages godly wrath. Godly wrath brings about destruction, such as drought or violent volcanic eruption.

Mythology and Native Cult:
• They believe the shadow is a manifestation of the soul.
• Soulless demons appear as beings without shadows.
• Some Fire People also believe in djinn. Djinn are the spirits of the smoke and air, created when a fire has been suddenly extinguished with rain or water. Similarly, when a human is not given a proper funeral, the bodies are possessed by djinn. They're generally devious beings who lure humans away by granting wishes to possess their body. Most djinn can be found in places that are dark and shady, because people wouldn't realize they have no shadow.
• One should confess his sins to the rising sun, and just like the sun, begin his life anew in that moment.
• The moon is said to be a devious enchantress, a lover who stole the sun's warmth and strength away. Before the sun god fell in love, there was no night. Then, a beautiful temptress came into his life, stole awa half of his power, and made it so that the sun could only be up for half of the day.
• Labor unions have laws that prohibit them from working on eclipse. Eclipse are days seen like Samhain and are celebrated on account of trying to trick the Djinn into not stealing your shadow. This is done by lighting a great fire in front of your house, and hanging a wax doll over the flames, such that there is a shadow of the doll, but it slowly disappears due to the melting of the wax.
• Mines are thought to be inherently threatening places, as they are both dark and enclosed, so before each mine can be worked in a priest must "bless" that mine.
• Comets and shooting stars are very good omens, so are sightings of red planets.
• The eagle is said to be a spirit of the sun god.
• Dawn and dusk are the most auspicious times of day, ideal important events, because shadows are longest when the sun is at its deepest angles.
• Conversely, high noon is the most inauspicious hour and most religious Incendians will avoid having celebrations, striking important deals, or doing most anything of significance at that hour. Sometimes celebrations will take rests or breaks for anywhere between 15 minutes to an hour while they wait for the sun to pass overhead.

Infrastructure/Technology/Economy:
• They're leaders of industry, mining, and technology (the little bit medieval people can achieve).
• They have a lot of trade going.
• Their economy supports a lot of guild-style culture and crafting.
• This might actually make them one of the more diplomatic countries, foreign policy wise.
• The fire kingdom has labor laws and regulations in place.
• They have a history of having to deal with rebellions based on labor laws and unions.
• One of their weakest points, militaristically, is the navy. They have very little interest in seafaring and some don't believe that seas are meant to be crossed.
• While fire manipulation allows some of the Fire People access to lightning, their understanding of electricity is still fairly rudimentary.
• Their treasury is rich and maintains a comparably good military.
• They use lots of tactics and machines at war. For example, balloons and airships would be pretty easy for Magnus Incendia.
• Indendians are pioneers of armor, weapon, and similar blacksmithing technologies. They may even have a monopoly over the weapon industry.
• The Fire Kingdom is a predominantly capitalistic nation.
• There is a unique metal located in a few volcanic mines in Magnus Incendia named "magnium." It has unusual properties, not the least of which are its astoundingly high melting point and its tendency to feel relatively cool to the touch even in sweltering temperatures. Magnium is the primary metal from which Incendians make their armor, especially for military soldiers, since it protects fire-wielders against burns caused by overheated armor on the battlefield.

Political Positions and Agendas:
• Their high volumes of trade mean that Magnus Incendia is fairly lenient when it comes to international commerce.
• Their trade also makes them perhaps one of the more diplomatic countries, foreign policy wise. An "I hate you and am going to attack your soldiers, but we can still trade crackers, and lets leave merchant caravans out it okay?" attitude.

Political and Military Structure:
• Magnus Incendia is ruled by an absolute monarchy. Though it may be advised or appealed to, the word of the king or queen is final and the throne is inherited by that king or queen's named heir.
• The monarch is assisted by a Council of Advisers. The Council is headed by a chairman who may also serve as a steward in the king's absence. Each adviser on the council is also trusted with managing the details of one or more branches of the government - for example, the military, the treasury, foreign affairs, etc.
• The military is headed by a general who may or may not also be the Adviser of Domestic Security.
• Under the general are five commanders, under whom are captains, and so on.

Culture and Quirks:
• Idealized traits include ferocity, passion, wildness, tenacity, and unconquerable drive. This also translates to revelry and celebration.
• They celebrate aggression, the sort that takes charge and makes things happen, but not unrestrained destruction.
• They like to party, like, a lot.
• There is prejudice against people who do not handle fire with the appropriate reverence and control.
• They have a whole "purge with fire" sort of mentality about everything.
• They also tend to use metaphors and idioms based on fire.
• They're naturally displeased by shadows and stifling, enclosed spaces - which might mean that some would be strongly opposed to going into Sanctimonia. These things bother some much more than others.
• Reds, oranges, yellows, and bright blues are very popular colors among the Fire People.
• The official demonym for the Fire People is Incendian.
• There is a large gap in Incendian social strata; they have very little middle ground. If you aren't a noble, you're a worker or a peasant. The closest people to come to middle class are the successful merchants.
• Farming and agriculture is considered a very respected and valuable trade, since it takes a lot of skill to tame the dry, rocky landscape.

Gender Roles:
• Gender roles in Incendian culture typically see the men handling outside matters, like going to battle and handling outside trade.
• Women, meanwhile, are masters of the household, caring for family and property.
• Typically, the matriarch/mother of a family is also responsible for handling the family's property and finances. The wife is in charge of the money and keeps track of assets, unlike in western culture.
• Because children are considered assets in Incendian culture, virginity (especially female) is also considered an asset. Most are expected to save themselves for their future husbands and wives.
• Both women and men are freely welcome to study and control all aspects of fire magic, if they have it, though they often end up using it for different purposes later in life.
• All able-bodied men of wealth in the Fire Kingdom are expected to complete a knighthood once they come of age; to do so is to be recognized as a man.

The Arts:
• Incendians have a history of being great architects and sculptors, creating incredible stone carvings and palaces out of the pliable local granites and sandstones.
• They're also very nice jewelers, since they have so many gemstones and precious metals to practice with, though Incendian jewelry designers have a tendency to be garish or ostentatious.
• Incendians tend to be at the head of the market with ceremonial weaponry crafting, since they are both great blacksmiths and great jewelers.

Native Fashion and Ceremonial Clothing:
• Grooms wear ceremonial sun robes. These include an ornamental, belted wrap coat with long, wide sleeves and a coattail that hangs down behind the knees over soft pants (as exemplified in the illustration). Grooms dress in colors of the sun; golds, hot yellows, oranges, and reds. Occasionally they are set against a black base, but they are almost always decorated with rich golden embroidery. The coat is always lined on the inside with red, like the molten heart of Esh-ban.
• Brides and moon priestesses wear the moon goddess's gown. This is typically a long, pale dress that skims the body, is almost floor-length, and exposes the arms, neck, and back. The dress is accented by golden jewelry like the golden rays of sunlight that Esh-ban gave to the moon during their wedding so that she could shed light on his people during her nights. This jewelry always includes armlets and belts, though some brides like to include more. Brides dress often in white, but sometimes pale blues and yellows are also viable.
• Both the bride and groom attend their weddings barefoot, especially the groom who carries his bride over the hot coals. Both also are painted splendidly with red and gold and sometimes white or bright fire-blue henna on their feet, hands, and often neck and face. Grooms wear sun motifs, brides wear moon motifs. The bride also displays an elaborate henna painting down her back.
• A wedding couple almost always wears headpieces. Most often, they wear bindis, but where applicable there are exceptions. Many princes, for example, have chosen to wear their crowns or circlets en lieu of other jewelry, and occasionally brides choose to wear more elaborate jeweled veils instead of bindis.

Local Drugs and Alcohol:
• Domestic alcohol is limited mostly to cider and vodka, though there are a few specialty liquors and beers brewed from things like carrot or radish juices or mixed with cream from Incendian cattle.
• Though many drugs traffic through Magnus Incendia, there is one native herbal stimulant that is both very easy to grow locally and very popular nationwide. It's called ephedra, though it also goes colloquially by several nicknames, including sparkbush, jolt, and Mrs. E.
• Ephedra can be consumed in several ways. Some popular methods include drinking ephedra as tea and eating essence of ephedra cooked into honey candies.

Indigenous Traits:
• Most natives have light olive skin that tans well. They do not have as much melanin as people from tropical regions, but nor do they have as little as those from frigid, dim regions.
• The most common hair colors are dark shades of brown. Hair is usually worn short, so that it does not catch alight, but long hair is a symbol of wealth or great command over fire.
• Most eyes are hazel or brown. However, many natives have a pale ring around their irises instead of a dark ring.
• Most Incendian clothing is made from wool or cotton fiber. It's rare for anyone who isn't very skilled with fire magic to wear silks, as that fabric is incredibly flammable.

Funerary Traditions and Beliefs:
• Funerary ritual involves big, exciting cremation pyres
• They believe some sort of fire is necessary to purify a body and allow the soul to move on to its next life
• Wakes are lively and jovial; they're celebrations, often with entertainment and good food, rather times of solemnity.
• Funerals are mostly performed at sunset, when the land goes dark and all shadows unite for a time.
• The funeral pyre should not be suddenly extinguished. It should be allowed to die down on its own.

Marital Traditions and Beliefs:
• Incendian wedding ceremonies are often stretched out over several days of celebration. It's a long party filled with contents and performances.
• The groom and his party are often asked to perform feats of strength, courage and skill. These are expressions from the man to prove that he is worthy of his bride.
• The bride, similarly, is often asked to perform a wedding dance for all of the guests and her groom wearing a traditional, ceremonial costume. The fire dance is a cultural ideal of beauty, seduction, and fertility. Often, bridesmaids will join her in dancing after the primary performance has been completed for further entertainment of the guests.
• There is, of course, a great deal of alcohol and feasting.
• Over the course of the wedding's events, a wedding pyre is lit and burns, symbolic of the coming marriage.
• The wedding pyre should not be suddenly extinguished. It should be allowed to die down on their own. In order to annul a wedding arrangement or to show your disapproval to them, you need to pour water on the pyre. This is why wedding pyres are generally put on by the groom's family and guarded by them.
• The moon is considered an auspicious symbol in matters of love or marriage,as she represents an equal relationship. Most women pray to the moon for luck in their love life or marriage.
• When a man and woman enter into a marital engagement, the man presents a beautiful token crafted out of obsidian to his fiancee. Ideally, the item presented will be something that symbolizes safety, respect, and shared responsibility, like a small weapon or tool. In recent eras, decorative obsidian hairpieces have become the most popular token because they allow the bride-to-be to wear her token for all to see and also take advantage of the culture's specific reverences for hair.
• In addition to presenting the bride-to-be with an obsidian token, it is traditional for a man to visit the woman's family for an evening and to play a game of Kojeinic checkers with her father.
• Once a couple is wed (typically during the celebration), the bride's family traditionally presents the newlyweds with a dowry to financially help them begin their lives together.
• The actual marriage ceremony proceeds as follows: the bride and groom, dressed in traditional costume, stand together before a pathway at dusk. One one side of the pathway stands all the witnessing women and on the opposite stand the men. The pathway before the couple is bordered by lit flames and cobbled by hot (but not searing) coals. Barefoot, the man picks up his bride in his arms and carries her over the 6-10 feet of coals. The groom then sits in a chair and, with a cotton cloth and basin of water from a hot spring, the bride briefly cleans the groom's feet. Next, a priest comes before them, he binds their hands together with a mooncloth, the couple says their vows while standing at an angle so that their shadows overlap, and the priest pronounces them wed.

• The kingdom is located in a primarily mountainous region, full of very rocky soil that is often dry and difficult to till.
• They have lots of variety in land elevation and some cities are even carved out of sprawling cliff faces.
• They have several very active volcanoes that have very docile eruptions regularly, much like the Hawaiian volcanic activity.
• Surrounding these docile volcanoes there are many oasises. These have both the most lush, ash-fertilized soil in
the kingdom and also house hot springs with rich minerals and healing properties. They are very high-demand areas
and produce the land's richest and most exotic agriculture.
• There is one volcano, the greatest of them all, which lays dormant. Legend says that, when their deity
becomes angered, it creates an angry and destructive eruption with the power to black out the sun and cause
famine and death across Magnus Incendia.
• They do have one small coastal port for trade, but honestly it's nothing to write home about. The most impressive
thing there has nothing to do with the port: it's home to a great sun temple, positioned by the shore because
the sun rises and sets with the sea.
• The majority of the kingdom is located in a warm, equatorial area.
• The kingdom's capital city is called Pyrandon.
• At the base of the great dormant volcano there is an area called "Urobach's Teeth." It's an outcropping of
volcanic rock that forms hundreds of jagged, vicious points that spire up towards the volcano's summit. Legend
says this is where the fire demon Urobach, sent by the Incendian deity in a fit of rage, gnawed at the earth with his
thousand fangs while tearing the skies asunder with the great volcano's fire.

Native Resorces and Crops:
• Lots of mining/mines, raw ore, metal, coal, oil, natural gas, generally things you can dig up from under the
ground. Also a great deal of stone, including local granite, pumice, lava rock, and sandstone.
• Related to mining, Magnus Incendia is rich with jewels of all kinds.
• Their rocky landscape means that they have very little in the way of crop growth. Their agriculture is made up of
hardy plants: potatoes, radishes, apples, beans, carrots, peas, etc. They maybe get some coffee or tea leaves on good years.
• Farmers have more success with livestock. Their diet involves a lot of vegetables, kebabs, spicy sausages, and similar meat dishes.
• They do import a lot of food, though.
• There are lots of sheep and goats grown natively, since they survive well in the mountainous region.

Losses From the Storm:
• Standing water that Magnus Incendia was not equipped to drain allowed bacteria to flower and allowed sickness to spread, breeding plague.
• Their crops weren't able to take the sudden change in conditions and they lost a lot of their food from the flooding, as well as the from the boiling the Incendians used to dry the land when they could.
• Many mines flooded when their rudimentary dams broke or springs finally overflowed, trapping and killing a huge portion of their workforce, causing a unusual economic struggle.

Family Characterization and Relationships

King Kojin IV (Daddy)
• Was notably strong and very committed, a convincing and effective leader.
• Lacking a little bit in the compassion area, was not usually a comforting presence.
• Probably a little more ruthless than was good, held grudges very hard and had rage like fire.
• Fia was a daddy's girl, but found that even though there were moments of tenderness between them she still felt unwelcome and unloved in his presence on a regular basis. She gets her lack of emotion, and fearlessness from him.
• Orinda had a relationship with King Kojin that was closer possibly than any of the other children, if only because he had so many hours of exposure. He grew to both understand and admire his father's power over both growth and destruction, baring witness to his greatest and worst moments. Kojin was an idol for Orinda, a model off which he based himself, but at the same time, when Orinda grew older and became his own person, he started to question his father's judgment as King. With his mother's compassion, there was more than one occasion where Orinda thought his father's ruthless choices only made situations worse. Still, in the present day he feels doubt that he could command respect the way his father did.

Queen Fiai (Mommy)
• She had a warm presence, a source of comfort for all of her family, very reliable and loving.
• There was nothing in the world more important to Fiai than her children.
• Fia gets her name and her looks from her mother, but not much else. Fia would have admired her and possibly feared her not because she was scary or ruthless, but because Fiai was one of the few who actually said no to her or punished her for her misbehavior.
• Their mother was grace and love incarnate, the embodiment of the Magnus dynasty.
• Orinda loved his mother and sought her often when he was having trouble coping with the world around him and the confusing, difficult choices he was facing as heir to the throne. She rarely ever gave him answers, but always knew what to say to lead him there on his own. Fiai was the one Orinda learned his capacity for empathy, patience, restraint, and understanding.

Prince Kalayo (Uncle)
• Kalayo was just as strong and reliable as his brother Kojin, but less serious. He had a very healthy sense of humor.
• Kojin was not too close with Kalayo, at least as far as brothers go. He often had trouble relating to the jokey prince. Still, Kojin and Fiai liked Kalayo's company enough that Kalayo was very present in the lives of his nephews.
• Though Orinda was always too young to understand most of his jokes, he knew Uncle Kalayo was funny by how much his mother laughed around him.
• After Kalayo's death, Kojin rarely talked about his brother.

Prince Orinda (Crown Prince)
• When Orinda was younger (an adolescent, if you will) he was a pretty bold, rambunctious, and fierce, a noble person but one with a lot of life and physicality. However, as people started to die all around him, each one gradually crushed his spirit and turned him into this stoic statue of a guy.
• Nowadays he's comparatively much more quiet and reserved; he's still very noble and respectable, even compassionate like his mother, but the light behind his eyes is very dim and sad, and his former ferocity is barely a shadow of what it once was.
• Allard effectively worships Orinda as the true image of a perfect man and ruler, but he's also uneasy and often troubled and jealous of the fact that Orinda has it all. He resents feeling like he's always compared to his older brother in every way by everyone.
• Fia admires Orinda's strength and stoicness quite a lot, though she isn't great at showing how much she cares for either of her siblings. As a daughter raised in a family of men, she primarily expresses her affection for him by horsing around with him. She doesn't love the way he's protective of her and even though she know he means well, she often reacts by doing something stupid and troublesome. Orinda is possibly the only person on the planet that Fia will listen to once she's in one of her temperamental moods. And the only force of authority that she wont rebel against.

Prince Aiden (Bro #2)
• Aiden was very like Orinda. As the second-born and second-in-line, he had to spend a lot of time with Orinda and King Kojin learning to be a knight and a politician, and they shared a great deal of personality, too, though Aiden was a little more of a firecracker than Orinda ever was.
• Aiden was Orinda's closest friend and his death was an especially poignant loss for the Crown Prince.
• Fia feels much for Aiden like how she feels for Orinda, but not to the same extent, simply because Fia and Orinda didn't get very close until after people started dying.

Prince Brande (Bro #3, Twins #1)
• Twin of Basia, to whom he was closer than anything in the world.
• Brande and Basia were both imaginative, mischievous little boys, often getting into trouble and inventing adventures to go on together. Especially in a pair, they were far too smart for their own good.
• At age 8, one of their adventures caused Brande to fell ill with a strange infection and he passed away within a month of contracting the disease.
• Though Orinda was alive for Uncle Kalayo's funeral, Brande's death when Orinda was 11 was the first loss that Orinda felt profoundly.
• With the stories she has heard about him, Fia is fond of Brande, feeling kinship with his memory.

Prince Basia (Bro #4, Twins #1)
• Twin of Brande, to whom he was closer than anything in the world.
• Brande and Basia were both imaginative, mischievous little boys, often getting into trouble and inventing adventures to go on together. Especially in a pair, they were far too smart for their own good.
• Young Prince Basia often blamed himself for his twin's death and took the loss very hard.
• After losing his twin, Basia retained his bright imagination and mischievous cleverness, though he no longer wanted to go outside or explore.
• As the years passed, Basia grew into a quiet, bookish young man.
• When he grew older and had to complete his knighthood, Basia proved to be a very talented strategist and began to participate more in the war.
• Basia often told Fia stories late into the night of all the adventures he and his twin went on. She urged him to join her on her own adventures, but found that whenever she asked he was clever enough to talk her out of her plans. Eventually, she stopped asking and just settled for his vibrant stories instead. His death was be the first that really affected her and it haunts her more than the others.

Prince Kojin V (Bro #5)
• Kojin was very like their father - he was ruthless, compassionless, quick-tempered and ambitious. He was all hard edges with very little warmth in his heart. He cared for succeeding and standing out, and usually didn't mind if he had to step on someone to do it.
• Fia just didn't get along with him. He and Fia butted heads quite often, mostly because they had the same temperament and lack of understanding, but his was more extreme than hers. Her lack of empathy is a choice, but Kojin's was a personality flaw.

Prince Aine (Bro #6, Twins #2)
• Twin of Pyralis, to whom he was closer than anything in the world.
• After losing Pyralis at age 15 to the war, Aine was never the same. He grew angry, violent, and slaughter-happy. He spent most of the rest of his life with the army, against some of his family's wishes. Many suspect that Pyralis's death was ultimately the reason he himself died on the battlefield 4 years later.
• Since they were pretty close in age, Fia played with Aine and Pyralis often. She remembers him as happy and joyful and all around fun. He went on many adventures with her even at Basia's protests. After Pyralis died, Fia noticed the sudden change in him and they quickly drifted apart. She believes that Aine left his heart on the battlefield with Pyralis, so she had lost both of them that same day. She refuses to acknowledge the man he became after his twin died; instead, she remembers how he was in their youth.

Prince Pyralis (Bro #7, Twins #2)
• Twin of Aine, to whom he was closer than anything in the world.
• Pyralis was a sweet boy, always careful and thinking of others. He worried a lot, sometimes to a fault, but was almost always willing to throw himself under the bus if it meant protecting someone else.
• Pyralis was more cautious than Aine ever was and he took prodding to agree to go on any adventures. He always gave in, though, hoping that if he came along he could protect Aine and Fia from getting into trouble.

Princess Fia (Sister)
• She's fearless, a little bit of a danger seeker. She has a little bit of survivors guilt, so though she doesn't want to die she purposefully puts herself in harms way, as if to dare something to happen to her. She wants to be proven wrong, but so far life has proven her right.
• She's quite the pessimist, she thinks everything bad that can happen, will happen. She also has a bit of a short temper.
• She's an introvert. Won't tell anyone her secrets, closed off, and battles emotions with sarcasm and attitude.
• If she truly cares about someone, they are stuck with her forever. She'll protect them, trust them, and stick to them like glue.
• Deep down she's a little bit of dreamer.
• Orinda is naturally loving and protective of his little sister. As the eldest with all the responsibility, he's still somewhat distant from her, but he understands her and can often see to her core. Her recklessness frustrates him, but he understands where it comes from.

Prince Allard (Bro #8 )
• He was born prematurely and the midwives didn't think he'd survive too long into his childhood. He's very frail and sickly, with quite a few health problems, so much so that he couldn't finish knighthood training.
• He's mostly very academic, because he believes that the only way he can make something out of his life is by being a good adviser
• He has very low self-esteem.
• Orinda has mixed feelings about this brother. On one hand, he is deeply grateful to still have a brother to love and respects that Allard is making the best of his circumstances, but on the other hand he finds that Allard can sometimes be hard to love and is sometimes a little resentful that his little brother can be an extra burden on top of everything else.
• When Hal was born, Fia was not allowed to play with him for fears that he would fall ill.
Fia, young at the time (only two), didn't understand why she was told she couldn't see her brother. Often times, she would sneak into his chambers and sleep next to him at night. Hal remained a sickly child, but survived the beginning years of his life. Fia was still told not to get to close, but she had already formed a bond with her younger sibling and regularly joined him in the dead of night to read him stories or play games. Hal became her best friend and Fia can hardly imagine what life would be like without him. Hal is everything that Fia is not and is constantly the voice of reason in her head. Often, he is the one who keeps her calm when she wants to fight.

Prince Ethne (Bro #9)
• Ethne always loved the idea of battle. He glorified it in his mind and admired war heroes more than anyone.
• Ethne was a prodigy when it came to fighting and fire magic. He completed his knighthood at a very young age - eleven - and his teachers ranked his command over fire as high as eight when he was only 14.
• He may have been a sociopath; all the death around him never seemed to really shake him or sway his love of war.
• Ethne begged to be allowed to go to war as soon as his knighthood was complete. His family refused because he was so young, plus most captains didn't want to deal with him for fear of his immaturity and the risk of losing a prince. They finally allowed him, reluctantly, to go when he was 14.
• Fia and Ethne didn't get along the greatest. He was always tough on her, telling her to man up and stop acting like a girl. Whenever she whined or cried, he would pluck her hair or do mean things to her and say something along the lines of, "I'm giving you a reason to cry." She learned to hide her emotions well because of his brutality towards her. Though, he also taught her a lot about fire, since he was far more advanced than she. It wasn't long ago that Ethne died and, even though they didn't get along the greatest, Fia feels she owes a lot of her strength to him. She regrets that they hadn't formed a closer bond when he was alive.

Prince Adar (Bro #10)
• Born during the time when the queen's health was already failing after multiple births and a few miscarriages, Adar was born paralyzed from the waist down.
• During the short time he was alive, Adar was a needy child. He almost always resorted to tantrums to get attention and suffered from an acute separation phobia.
• He almost never saw his mother, since she had fallen into illness. Plus, most royal medici had other things to do than look after an invalid. The world was in a disarray during his life, and little Adar was unable to understand; he was afraid of most of what he saw.
• Adar had a habit of trying to hide away in his own room, scribbling all over the walls and not wanting to meet others.
• Though born sickly like Hal, Adar was Hal's opposite. He and Fia were kindred souls. Adar had a burning curiosity in him to explore the world. He was compassionate and a vivid dreamer who, when not petrified by frustration and fear, loved the world's beauty.
• Adar died one day in his room, quietly in his sleep. Some of the medici mused that his death was really for the best, since his life had been pretty tortured. Most assume he had just fallen ill one day and no one ever noticed it because of his reclusive behavior.
• Allard took his death as a personal failure, as it only showed him very clearly what his own fate was likely to be.
• His death hit Fia particularly hard because she feels that she is in fact responsible for his early demise: she dared him to join her away from the palace one day and they ventured, undetected, far from watching eyes to a place where Marisians were settled. Something there must have inflamed Adar's condition, because it was only hours later that he died in his sleep.
• Orinda never learned to care very deeply for Adar, since by the time he was born Orinda was becoming swamped with more and more responsibility. Between Adar's reclusive behavior and burdensome sickliness, Orinda rarely ever found the time to seek this little brother out to bond. Still, when Adar's presence was gone, Orinda realized how much he missed the boy, though he also experienced a very guilty relief.

Prince Cendrillion (Bro #11)
• The youngest of the Fire King's brood (who survived infancy), Cendrillion was a happy child, full of smiles and adventure.
• Cendrillion often felt that he had very little to do in this world. He never saw his sickly mother, very rarely his father, and almost none of his brothers had time for a little boy.
• Cendrillion, with his chipper nature, started to fill his time by sneaking out of the palace thresholds unnoticed by most of the preoccupied nurses.
• One day during the raging storm Cendrillion splashed through the wrong puddle. The plague that had been sweeping through the kingdom infected him, and his little body was unable to fight off the nasty pathogen.
• Maybe it was their age difference, but Fia always perceived Cendrillion as sort of a cry baby. Though his immaturity frustrated Fia quite often, she babied him and protected him like she was his mother. She took his death particularly hard.
• Though Orinda was very distant from Cendrillion, he had a much easier time being fond of the boy than he did Adar. Cendrillion was very social and went out of his way to visit and admire all of his big brothers. He had a lot of crybaby moments, but Orinda was super practiced at living with baby brothers by this point and he rarely ever had to stick around to deal with it. Orinda dearly missed Cendrillion after his death, and it added just another crack to his shell, since so many had fallen by then.

Prince Etain (Bro #12)
• Etain is born sickly, but unlike Allard does not survive his infancy. The loss affects Queen Fiai the most.
• Orinda is sad for his mother and for the loss of new joy in darkening times, but never bonded with Etain and by this time was not new to death.
• Fia had already learned to shut down her emotions when Etain was born. She didn't grow attached to the babe because in her heart knew he was doomed. She feels a moderate sense of guilt for this and wonders if maybe she had shown the child love and affection like she did Hal, that he too might have survived.

Did I miss anything

That's actually pretty great! I was planning to do that. Thanks so much!

Available NPC's:

Adviser Ea: a grey-haired old Incendian elder who was an adviser to King Kojin and maybe even Kojin's predecessor. Orinda inherited Ea along with all of the other royal advisers when Kojin passed. Ea is the chairman of the Council of Advisers and is Orinda's favorite and most trusted. This is the man who most often comes to Orinda when an immediate decision is needed from the monarch.
Lady Seraphina: a young noblewoman from House Conflatus, the second most respected family in Magnus Incendia, following the royal family. She was probably going to become Orinda's wife, but those plans were nullified when King Kojin agreed to the arranged marriage treaty.
Lady Fiamette: a mature noblewoman with a history of being very well-spoken and good at diplomacy. She is an excellent tool in negotiation and is available to do ambassadorial work for the Incendians where needed.
Lord Hourig: A member of House Conflatus. He is both uncle to Seraphina and close family friend of the Magnus.
Commander Conley: A commander in the Incendian military, one of several second-in-commands under the general. This particular commander has a reputation for being open-minded and understanding, and will probably be involved with the united Sanctimonian militia.
Iagena and Keegan: two sisters who are wealthier, more respected members of the lower class. Together, they are arguably the most talented architects in all of Magnus Incendia.
Su: an Incendian maid who serves the royal family. She iss a shy young lady, no older than 20, with milk chocolate skin and dark brown hair cut boyishly above her ears. She has a slight drawl that betrays her lack of formal education.
Antal Dothan: a successful merchant with influence over the blacksmithing industry, this is the one Prince Allard chatted with about Fia's dowry.
Ester: a serving girl with whom Allard has had a romantic fling
Rhyland: Fia's personal guard
Fina: A little girl, age 6, who is allegedly the royal family's niece.
Adena: Alleged widow of Prince Aiden and mother of Fina

I especially like our marital beliefs.

Who wouldn't? xD

Some things we should still talk about, if you want:

- Do indigenous Incendians typically share any common ethnic traits? (For example, many Asian ethnicities have dark, pin-straight hair, and many natives of Scandinavia are very fair-skinned.)
- How exactly do Incendians go about their native religion? What specific sorts of acts do they do in order to properly worship their deity? Do they have sacrifices? Do they have festivals? Prayer? What sorts of things do they ask their deity for? (Do they ask him/her things like "please heal my child" or more like "please don't cause a drought this year?" wink
- What are the terrain and local resources like? What sorts of crops or livestock grow best in their area? How does it affect the local diet?
- How has the storm affected them? What all have they lost, aside from population, in the struggle?

Physical terrain :

- Hilly regions with opportunities of mining certain ores. It also has some sheep, and hence, wool.

- Not too much fertile land for agriculture. Because of this, Magnus Incendium needs to import food. This makes farming as an occupation very highly sought-after and also requires high skill to tame the rough lands.

- Maybe a dormant volcano? Stories of how the last civilization on these lands were purged by the Gods' fire when they became too decadent.

- A small shore for a port, for trade. The shore might also have the temple of the Sun God - as the sun rises and sets into the sea.

I'd say because of the 'purge with fire' attitude, they do have big festivals with fire-works and stuff. Considering that they're more about fierceness and passion, I'd say they would go the way of having elaborate festivals with sacrifices and decadence, and less of actual spirituality. This also makes sense as most people of the community are trade-based, and would like to show off their wealth. Also, the festivals would create space for tourism and the like.

Since it's all about being elaborate show, I'd say that the focus is more on pleasing the gods, rather than spirituality. Which means focus would be more on "Please don't create too many storms this year." and stuff.

I'd also say that the community has a vast gap between social strata. There's almost no middle class in the social hierarchy - nobles, merchants, and industrial workers.

Crops would be very few - mostly potatoes, apples, beans. Maaaaybe some coffee/tea/cocoa. So, they'd be more dependent on kababs, sausages, and other assorted meat items. Would they consumer alcohol too? That depends on the climate and geographical location, I think, and so does the ethnicity.

> Primarily a mountainous region, very rocky and often difficult to till
> Lots of elevation, possibly even cities carves out of the sides of rocky cliffs
> At least one volcanic area, but possibly even a Hawaii-esque area with several very active volcanoes that erupt regularly, but with fairly docile behavior.
> On top of those, there can still be one great dormant volcano that, when it does erupt, does so violently and angrily
> Around the "soft" volcanoes there might be lots of oasises, the sort with healing hot springs and very lush soil from all the volcanic ash making the land there rich
> These oasises would be very high-demand areas where the areas best domestic agriculture comes from
> The rest of the kingdom has to stick to producing more hardy crops, like potatoes, radishes, carrots, beans, etc. If they want anything more exciting, they have to import it.

Whoa! That looks ******** fantastic! ;o Hot-springs, yep! Makes perfect sense. Totally forgot about those. The volcanic ash also goes on to make the ores. And the place could have a good amount of granite and sandstone, so I believe that all the big temples and castles would be made out of granite sculpting.

Possible intrigue stuff :

1. Wedding of Fia to someone from the Air Kingdom, to strengthen the bonds of alliance.

2. Wedding of Orinda to a princess of the Earth Kingdom, because "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer". This serves three purposes :
- Getting a claim on earth kingdom's food and ore supply at subsidized rates
- Alliance, as well as keeping Earth Kingdom under pressure
- Isolating the main enemy, Water Kingdom / creating opportunity for alliance with them.

Oh, something has just occurred to me: A big issue for them in the storm, aside from not liking the wet, has probably been waterborne illness. As people from a territory that's usually pretty dry and is mountainous enough that most excess water usually either evaporates or runs off down towards sea level. Since they aren't equipped with a lot of water control or retention ponds, odds are they ended up with a lot of standing water where bacteria developed and allowed sickness to spread. Plus, their crops probably weren't able to take the sudden change in conditions and they would have lost a lot of their food.
