Hearing that her health had improved lightened his heart a little. He was curious about the summoning of her pets, first the wind beast and then the curious fairy that could heal wounds. The winged one could heal illness as well? He silently hoped that she used the small delicate looking fae to heal herself rather then his shoulder, he had had far worse wounds in comparison and survived. Her next statement, the Raen fell silent. Repay him? He didn't want payment, for anything. Any person who was halfway decent would help someone who needed it. He may have gone out of his way after she had snuck out, but... No, asking for her to repay him would be the Avagnar way of going about things in the world, and that was exactly what he was avoiding by taking care of her. That was payment enough, giving him the courage and an excuse to leave that terrible world behind.
"Don't worry." he responded to her mentioning repayment. She already had too much to worry about, such as the souls chasing after her for the one who wanted her back. Really, Shigetaka wanted to make his way to Ul'dah, and find this Leland. Make him pay for everything that he had done to Asari, and the other ones that he sounded like he had under his control. But that would have to wait until the woman he dedicated himself to protecting was safe, and in order to get her that way, they needed to first travel to Ishgard. That seemed like the most outlying place. From there, it would be a bit of a ways, but... well, he had a plan. A long plan, but a plan.
Her next words caused his golden eyes to look up and over at her. The East? Was she talking about... no, she was probably talking about where it was she was from. Was he from there as well? He couldn't remember past waking up in the caravan with his new, adopted family. But even then he couldn't say where they were at that time. But at least he could give her a half answer. Though he let the question settling on the wind for a bit, waiting until they passed a few trees and he could make sure that there weren't any other people around. They had past Rooster's Stead, it would be a good place where people would follow them if there were more in the area. But, so far, so good. Once he was sure that there were no hidden shadows, he looked away from Asari, and let his eyes fall to the ground.
"Eighteen years..." Eighteen long, long years. Full of hell that forced him to play at being something he was not. Forced him to be a monster, someone who only cared about survival and strength. The large scar on his side was proof of what would happen if he didn't wear that mask that his family wanted him to wear. "But..." His words fell, his lips pursing as he caught himself, and what it was he was about to say. Then again, Asari had already revealed everything about her life. At least, everything that mattered to those in these lands. She was a walking payout. And for those who didn't want money, they could treat her like the man Leland had. "I don't remember my life when I was young."
He looked over at her, but only for a second, before he pretended to look around for other people, or monsters, again. "I could be from where you lived, but..." No, his mind was done with wishing he remembered his past. The past wasn't going to get them where they were going. It wasn't going to help him protect her. At least his 'father' had given him the tools and skills to use on this mission. But they didn't deserve his thanks.
However, the male Raen didn't feel the need to explain that he was adopted by a Xaela family, or delve into their trade. In the distance he could see the dock structures rise up over the hills. There was still a bridge to cross though. Surely they would come across people there, and possible people that would be after his ward. Same at the docks. There was the hope that they would time their trip perfectly and that they could get a ship without a long wait. "What is the East like...?" The hope was that he would get her back to the lands she was used to, far away from the mans grasp. The only reason this Leland got his hands on her was because of the filth that smuggled her out of her home.
A home that maybe he could see.
