Alice allowed Break to support her when she stood. She had no strength nor energy left to argue, and they both knew she was as weak as she looked. She felt tired.. worn out, exhausted.. She didnt even have words to fight him with. She just wanted to lay down on a bed and rest.. sleep peacefully.
"Though before we return..."
"Wha--"
The girl gasped in surprise as her head turned sideways sharply with a sting on her cheek. What just.. For a moment, Alice's eyes focused on a blank spot as her brain tried to grasp what happened. It was so fast that she didnt have the time to react to it normally as she wouldve. Break just hit her, and she only stood there, transfixed, surprised, confused. Speechless, Alice could only lift a hand to cover her undoubtedly reddening cheek. It stung lightly, she knew he held back when he hit her-- after all, it wouldnt be the first time that he's hit her, and she sure knew the strength he had.
"That's for trying to kill me. Now I know what you are going to say, so don't bother...But I've risked my life for you quite a few times now Miss Black Rabbit...and that display revealed to me just how ungrateful you are. I think it's time you learn to fight your own battles because frankly now that we will be spending some time together, I'd rather not have to come rush to Miss Rabbit's rescue every second. Understand?"
For the first time since she could remember, Alice hung her head in shame. Ah, yes. It made sense for him to get mad. Wait-- did he? Half her mind demanded that his excuse was lame, that he deserved to die for kidnapping her, but half her mind agreed with him and understood the reasons behind his anger. Yes, he did kidnap her. Yes, he did put her life in danger. But none of them were entirely specifically his fault. He did save her when she couldnt protect herself, whether he only saved her because he needed her or because he wanted to simply save her, it didnt change the fact that he DID save her.
I should apologize.. I guess.
The thought resounded in her head but no words left her lips, and so she simply stood there, staring at the ground, not wanting to meet his gaze or even just look at his face. She didnt like feeling guilty, but right now, her conscience was bothering her.
With her hanging her head, she didnt see his frown disappear into the usual grin he had on his face. The next thing she knew was that she was stumbling after him as he helped her back to the doctor's house, a walk where she stayed silent the entire time.
Upon arriving back at the house where they were taken in by the doctor and Melanie, Alice found herself sinking into more guilt as they were met by Melanie's worried and concerned face. Self-consciously, Alice glanced down at her clothes only to find them covered in dirt. Automatically, she lifted a hand to her face and wiped at whatever possible dirt there was.
"..sorry. I said I'd go take a walk but I got lost and-- and I tripped.."
Alice blushed in embarrassment at her story. It sounded lame and stupid. She didnt sound like her usual haughty self and she wasnt sure she liked the change. Sometimes she didnt feel like herself anymore. Melanie however, decided not to give Alice a longer time to think about her or anything else as she politely took Alice from Break's hold.
"It's okay, come, you seem like you need a bath."
And Alice could only nod as Melanie took her back to her room, the one where she stayed in earlier.
