They were all idiots. The Fidelisus called themselves leaders, called themselves the protectors of their beloved humans, but the moment she planted someone to mutter about a treaty, there was mass excitement. Adria could just imagine their false hope at the prospect of peace. When she sent the treaty, they'd be even more ecstatic. They'd do anything to end a bloody war. And their desperation would get them all killed. The damned pacifists. They hadn't the foresight to see through anything. They'd walk right into her trap and calmly lay their necks down onto the chopping block. The executioner's ax felt so right in her hands.
She glanced around the room, pausing to think. Time was the only variable. Time, and her own temper. She had never been a patient woman, and waiting for the treaty to be delivered, examined, and accepted would take so long. So terribly, terribly long. Then even more time would be devoted to negotiating a meeting place, and the exchanges, and then time for the treaty to mature, and it would just take so much time. Of course everything she could would be devoted to speeding the process right along. What was the courtesy time before a marriage? A month? No, that certainly wouldn't do. Two, maybe three weeks, tops. After fifteen years, what she wanted to save the most of was time.
But she couldn't even enact her plan yet. Not without first calling together all the Commodisian leaders. They would have to agree to her idea, so no one would start thinking she was a dictator. She kind of was, but as long as her supporters didn't think that, she could however she pleased. One of the people in particular that she had to tread careful waters with was her husband. He was probably the most power hungry of them all, and she knew perfectly well that he could overpower her if it really came down to it. With his massive dragon form, the Jade leader could easily mop the floor with her face. A careful balancing act was there to keep him from using that ability.
She crossed her legs, uncrossed them, and then glanced out the enormous window. It was rather pretty in St. Petersburg, even if it was a human city. She enjoyed it as a base. The chillier weather did not always suit her, but that was what coats were for. Thankfully it was summer, and she could worry about temperature later in the year. Later, when she'd dominate all the lands across the world, all because of one false treaty and the help of her little boy, Zane. It was all so nice. Then there would be no humans, only dragons. Then they wouldn't have to worry about blasted Maidens. Then they could continue on with their lives they were meant to: as the head of the food chain.
But that was taking time. Time, time, time. Seconds ticked down on the clock. She could feel herself grow restless from just sitting in the meeting room, waiting, waiting, waiting for the other leaders. Her Mangiatore, and Arthur, and Fuyuki. One of the three she had no particular fondness for. Another, she feared and probably also loved. The third, well, he was in a neutral boat somewhere. A good ally, yes, and at least he wasn't some ditzy blond. Oops, did she give away the first that she didn't like?
