            APPEARANCE

In a crowd, the things that would make Aerisa stand out would be the subtle innocent glow that she seems to emit (which actually comes from the sunlight bouncing off her strawberry blonde hair), the large puppy-dog hazel eyes that confidently look out at the world and her smile. There’s almost never a moment where there isn’t at least a hint of a smile on her face. She’s got that poker face that not many can see through (and she’s not bad at poker either). Even when she’s angry she smiles (with a slight glint in her eye that says “you’re going down”), and that’s quite a scary sight to see.

Having a little bit of a complex about her height as she’s somewhere between average and short (around 5”3), Aerisa often comforts herself by saying she still has time to grow. Her flexibility and ability to jump quite high sort of make up for it though. Though her skin stays fair no matter how long she stays in the sun, it is easily bruised, so during the clumsier times when she was younger people would sometimes wonder whether she'd been abused when she had just fallen over a few minutes ago. Her fringe is a little strange and likes repositioning itself a little differently every morning she wakes up, but with a little ruffle can be adjusted again.
Aerisa doesn’t really have much dress sense. She never got out of the habit of being dressed by her parents and just wears whatever she’s given, which mainly comprises of dresses and skirts of sorts accompanied by a pair of hooded cloak or some other coat of sort. But whenever she does wear those free flowing, frilly things, she likes to wear a pair of shorts underneath just so that she doesn’t flash anyone when bustling around since she is quite an active person. One thing she does have an opinion on are her shoes, Aerisa refuses to wear anything that isn’t at least slightly platformed or heeled.

            PERSONALITY

A typical Taratran, Aerisa is a cheerful, spirited and energetic youth who could probably power all the light bulbs in a large 50 floor skyscraper with her energy (if they had light bulbs and skyscrapers there…). Despite all her verve and apparent friendliness, she’s a cautious person. She’s no risk taker and likes to err on the safer side, always making sure to observe and think things through before jumping into a situation. Her trust isn’t easily given to others either even though she may act like they’re all buddies for the moment. Once someone has obtained her trust, she expects that person to stick with her through the thick and thin as she would for him/her. Betrayal is an almost unimaginable thing to her. Anyone who trashes her hard earned trust, is practically dead to her. She doesn’t know this person, doesn’t want to either and that person’s existence is none of her business anymore.

Still a child at heart, she’s naturally inquisitive and doesn’t hold back any questions that she may have about the world or others for that matter, although she is sensitive to other people’s feelings and knows when to beat around the bush for info and when to just ask straight up. Aerisa believes in maintaining formalities with people as a form of courtesy, referring to others as “Mister X” or “Miss X” unless that said person explicitly asks her to call him/her otherwise. Apart from that, she’s also extremely polite, always remembering her “please”s and “thank you”s no matter what mood she’s in. One of her pet peeves is people swearing (even if it wasn’t directed at her) and she has a habit of lightly reminding the swearer not to do so if it happens (first through words, and then if it continues a light smack with whatever she has in her hands). For a Taratran, Aerisa is pretty cool-headed and doesn’t fire up too easily. But when she is angered, she can be pretty abrasive, making her somewhat of a hypocrite. Aerisa is pretty forgiving on most occasions, once she’s gotten past the phase where she’s itching to seek revenge whoever just crossed her. Quite a vengeful creature, she often has thoughts of smooshing, crushing, scrunching up, punching, stabbing, throwing to the deepest depths of the ocean her agitators, but never actually carries it out because the feeling often wears out pretty soon.

Aerisa’s attitude to life can swing from being insanely positive to depressingly negative in a snap, but for the most part she stays on the optimistic side just because being pessimistic is not really fun and it keeps her sane given the recent events. It doesn’t take much to dishearten Aerisa. But more often than not, she’ll just bounce back from it and charge on even stronger as if there was a timer in her head that goes off after a certain amount of time, asks her to stop moping and gives her a push (or a kick) to get on with whatever it is she was doing. If she fails at a something, this cycle of being disheartened, thinking/sulking for a bit, perking back up, charging forwarded and failing again will keep going until she finally gets it, no matter how long it may take her. Her patience is almost unlimited.

            FIGHTING STYLE

Not being of a large build, Aerisa’s fighting style is based on technique, speed and agility. She’s more comfortable with long distance combat, but can handle herself in hand-to-hand combat too (after all, you do meet all sorts of people living near a seaport). Her aim with the bow is a little skewed because she has a little trouble pulling back the bowstring, but otherwise she is prodigal with small weapons like throwing knives/daggers/needles (she normally carries a few of these with her wherever she goes). Though she can wield very light swords/rapiers, her swordsmanship is non-existent (and purely based on instinct) but passable as she moves in such a way that the opponent often doesn’t know what move she would make next (but then again neither does she half the time). Despite her innocent appearance, in Aerisa’s mind, the words “fair” and “fight” do not go together without a “not” somewhere in the same sentence. When it comes down to close combat, she uses a wide manner of so called “dirty tricks” such as throwing sand/dust/dirt into the opponent’s eyes, scratching, pinching, biting, distracting etc.

Having an affinity with fire, she can create and manipulate flames. However, since she’s just starting out, her ability is limited to being able to heat surfaces and withstand very hot temperatures, being fireproof and making small fires into different shapes (like balls that range from cricket ball size to firefly size, needles, fireworks and butterflies etc.). Though that may be the case, it currently doesn’t really affect her that much since she mainly uses it as a shock factor/deterrent rather than a weapon to burn enemies to smithereens.

Waiting for the grim reaper’s boat to ferry her away, was never a fun task. But still, Aerisa sat by the dock, swinging her legs and wringing the corner of her skirt, awaiting the first boat scheduled to leave for Laisgard. It wasn’t all that bad, considering that she had woken up early enough to be able to watch the last beautiful Taratran sunrise she’d ever see before embarking on a perilous journey with an entourage of complete strangers and then dying with them. No, it didn’t seem all that bad at all. It was a mix of excitement, sadness, happiness, nervousness, unease and indifference all rolled up in a ball and then kicked down a hill to bunch up some more like a snowball rolling down a snow covered mountain until it eventually bursts. But it never did burst and instead just melted away as a veil of black covered her eyes.

“Guess who?” a mystery person squeaked, as Aerisa could hear several high-pitched giggles from behind. It was the group of children from the city whom had taken a liking to her, or rather, those from that group whom had managed to get up so early in the morning just to see her off. She never considered herself a good role model but tried her best to be the nice-older-sister-type-figure to them since it was interesting to have a little posse of people around her.
Hello there, Maya, Jeremi, Ellae, Lino and Shurin.” She chuckled as disappointed rings of “Aww…” could be heard and her eyes could see the world again.
What are you guys doing here so early?” she asked as the children looked at each other tentatively before starting to speak, whine and cry all at the same time. “My parents told me that you’re leaving on an adventure! Let me come with you!” “Huh? My mummy told me Aerisa’s gonna die.” “Aerisa’s not going to die~! Please don’t die Aerisa~!” “What!?! Your mom is wrong! My daddy told me she’s going off to save the world.”
The girl looked at the group of children, unsure of what to say or how to explain the situation, “Ah, why couldn’t their parents just speak to them as a group and tell them one thing, instead of confusing them all with conflicting stories!?!
Now, now, calm down please.” She told the children as their voices started to escalate into shouts.
Your parents are...all right…. in some way. I am going away on a veerrry dangerous journey for a veerrry long time so it’s probably going to seem like I’ve died because you won’t be seeing me again for a veerrry long time. I don’t know when I’m going to come back, but you can think of it this way, if I never return to Taratras, it’s because I’ve become a star in the sky.” The Taratran girl sighed, hoping that her explanation would suffice. It really sounded so cliché, but she’d also been told that in the past when her older brother went away and wondered whether it’d work on them. But, unfortunately, these kids weren’t like the naïve little munchkin she was when she was younger and started asking questions like “So you’re going away to become… a star in the sky? How is that even possible!?!” “But why? Can’t someone else go?”
Y-yeah, the night sky needs more stars because…stars are pretty. Like why do we want more candy, because it’s yummy.” She explained, before hearing a small “But the sky can’t eat stars…”.
“…Just forget I said that, Lino…” she laughed with a sigh, ruffling the child’s hair as she stood up. She felt like she needed to do something more to make the occasion more special, but the sound of horns suddenly interrupted the moment as Aerisa looked behind her to see the boat docked by the port. Death’s ferryman had arrived.
Well, that’s the captain calling me and I must be off. Be good kids and eat your vegies and your meat so you can grow taller than me. There’s so much I want to say to each of you, but there’s not enough time, but I knew that so, I’ve hidden letters and presents to your future selves around the city for you to find. Have fun with that and farewell.” Aerisa cuddled the teary-eyed kids in a group hug before stepping on board the boat. Just to leave them with a less melancholy parting, she released a flurry of brilliant bright orange butterfly shaped flames that flapped their wings and fluttered around the children for a while before making them explode and rain down as a waterfall of warm harmless sparks in a myriad of colours. Still, she could hear the doleful echoes of “Goodbye Aerisa~!” following her as the boat set sail.

The rest of the journey to Laisgard was somewhat of a blur. Not trusting the ship captain to ferry her off and sell her off as a child slave instead of where she should be headed to, Aerisa spend most nights being half awake, having just enough rest to get her through the next day. Then it was just the task of travelling straight towards the strange tree-like structures. It wasn’t as if she hadn’t been to Laisgard before, since she was from a trading town and had been there to deliver goods. But something about the atmosphere that day just made her gawk in wonder at the place….Until four robed men, clad in a light tea green came up to her.

Good day to you sirs. How may I help you?” she asked, eying them suspiciously as they circled around her, “Aerisa Rhemy Fiamette of Taratras?” one asked rather sternly. Aerisa didn’t really like the look of things. They could probably tell that she was from Taratras from her attire but wondered how they knew her name. Still, she didn’t see the harm in answering them.
Yes, but wh-” two of the men suddenly grabbed her by the arms and started dragging her off somewhere, the other two positioned themselves in front of and behind her. “For the ritual.”
Wait-what!?! Could you please explain?!?” she asked, panicking a little as she received another three word answer “To cleanse you.”
I’m sorry but I’m not religious! No! I don’t believe~! Ah! I want to go play that! Please let go of me~! Fine, fine, I’ll go with you, just let go! I can walk perfectly fine by myself~!” the young Taratran wailed as she tried to persuade them to no avail and then attempted (unsuccessfully) to kick the priest in front of her, her petite legs going round and round as if she was riding some upturned bicycle. Once again, she cursed her height as the tips of her toes were just centimetres away from the guy’s back. Helplessly flailing her arms around like a windmill, she tried to annoy the two whom were escorting her oh so courteously though the singing crowd of thousands, but the sombre men kept their hold. She didn’t exactly want to hurt them to get away since they did seem like they were supposed to be doing what they were doing, but Aerisa was not a happy chappy, having not been informed of what was going to happen to her. Eventually, the girl became slightly tired out and just decided to enjoy whatever was left of the ride, swaying and humming a little with the music whilst smiling and waving at the Laisgardians as if she was some sort of celebrity. It seemed somewhat homely with all the festivities happening around her.

It was dark. Being brought to a large dimly candle lit hall and Aerisa had her bag snatched from her. But now was not the time to worry about small thefts. As she entered the room, she noticed an altar with a gigantic brass bowl of fire at the end of the room and a band of priests whom were there (and probably had been there for a long time already), chant-singing “Ari adiamus late ari adiamus da ari a natus late adua …” whilst banging on drums in quite a war-like beat. A large symbol (resembling some type of magic circle or witches’ circle) was drawn in the middle of the room with chalk and around it, a small moat of water was scratched into the floor, and around that small scented candles which stood shoulder to shoulder next to each other. A wreath made of herb-like plants and flowers was plonked on top of her head by one of the priests, while another gave her a bunch of herb-like plants (the same type as the wreath was made of) to hold, whilst yet another pointed at the middle of the circle and gave her a small push towards it. Silently, the strawberry blonde girl did as she was told; wrinkling her nose at the nauseating smell of the combined fragrances of the herbs, flowers and the scented candles. She couldn’t see the point of struggling any further and settled herself down as the music came to a climax and ended.

Following a few moments of silence and awkward stares, a person who seemed to be the head priest of them stepped out from behind the altar and opened up a big, thick, heavy, dusty volume of “L.I.”. Flicking to the first page of the book, he started to read and the other priests in the room repeated after him,
“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non voluptate, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum…”
As the reading kept going on for what seemed to be hours, the setting of the place was starting to creep her out as it seemed like they were ready to just kill her there and then. Sitting cross-legged in the middle of this strange ceremony, Aerisa also felt somewhat perplexed, having no idea what they were saying and not really seeing what good all of this would do. Nevertheless, she was grateful they didn’t expect her to recite with them. Then, without a warning, the whole room erupted with a booming “BANKAI!” and with that word, turned towards her with expectant eyes.
…B-bankai…?” Aerisa mumbled, wondering what type of nutcase invented this stupid ritual and which bigger nutcase signed her up for this. It wasn’t exactly hard to guess who put her name up to be the emissary of Taratras, but for now Aerisa didn’t want to point fingers in case she was wrong (and because the was nothing she could do about it anyway).

The room was filled with roaring cheers at her last words and from the ceiling, which was so high it could only be seen as a shadow, a large gush of almost boiling water (from presumably a large bucket suspended a few meters from the ceiling) immediately came bucketing down. Any normal person would’ve screamed in pain, but since she was a Taratran, she handled it with ease. With normal people there is a thin line between irritation and anger. With Aerisa, there is a large chasm, much like the Grand Canyon. In her mind, these people were at the halfway mark heading towards the angry side, but with a few deep breaths, Aerisa managed to drop them into the chasm instead of letting them cross over. In any case, Aerisa. Was. Not. Amused. Standing up, she walked towards the head priest, steam coming off her clothes as they dried themselves.
…E-excuse me, sir, but is this…thing… over, now?” she asked him through gritted teeth, her eyes glaring at him as he nodded furiously. Satisfied with his answer, she forced a smiled and continued.
Now, can you please explain to me just what that was.” she asked again, before cutting him off with “And please…Don’t you even dare think of answering me with anything less than 10 words.

A few moments later, the young Taratran found herself being lead through a long corridor heading towards a pair of elaborately decorated doors whilst munching on some sweet snack that came somewhere from the celebrations being held outside. She guessed that those priest people felt bad for not explaining things to her and hoped to (stop her raging urge to burn down the whole place) make it up to by giving her food. Either way, after a bit of thinking about it, Aerisa didn’t think the rite was all that bad and was actually quite content, feeling a refreshing sense of calm tranquility. She now had food to eat, a free “shower” and smelt quite nice because of that.
Ah~ it’d be nice if I could just sleep~.” She thought to herself, momentarily forgetting where exactly she was going and who exactly she was going to meet. Then, whilst absorbed in her daydreams…
BAMF! Aerisa walked right into someone.

Waiting for the grim reaper’s boat to ferry her away to the first stop on a long journey to death, was never a fun task. But it never did burst and instead just melted away as the sun came into view and painted the skyline in shades of crimson.

Thinking back as she stared into the sun, she wondered whether she had left the people she cared for in the right way. First, it was the group of children from the around Taratras whom had taken a liking to her after she started performing shows with her fire and whatever acrobatic skills she had. She never considered herself a good role model or even a role model at all, but tried her best to be the nice-older-sister-type-figure to those little things since it was interesting to have them around. She could remember telling them that she was leaving Alloth with some really cliché sounding line that had once been used on her in the past. She told them that she would be going away for a very long time and that if she never returned, it was because she became a star in the sky. Unfortunately, her explanation didn’t suffice as those kids weren’t like the naïve little munchkin she was when she was younger and started asking questions like “So you’re going away to become… a star in the sky? How is that even possible!?!” “But why? Can’t someone else go?” and thus, Aerisa had some more explaining to do.

Then it was her parents. They were very opposed to her going to Arcadia and had spent a great deal of time and money trying to find out who put her name out for it. But their investigations were all in vain. Deciding that it’d just be a waste of energy fighting against “fate”, Aerisa distanced herself from them, in an attempt to make the separation easier. It did work to a certain extent, but for some reason, she was feeling the weight of it all more than ever. She felt like she needed to do something more to make the occasion more special, or rather do something to leave her mark in Taratras, but the sound of horns suddenly interrupted her thoughts as Aerisa looked behind her to see the boat docked by the port. Death’s ferryman had arrived.

Heaving a sigh, she jumped up on her feet and stretched before stepping on board the boat. Just to lift her spirits from this melancholy feeling, she released a flurry of brilliant bright orange butterfly shaped flames whom flapped their wings and fluttered around the port for a while, before making all but one explode and rain down as a waterfall of warm harmless sparks in a myriad of colours. That one small flame butterfly fluttered down and etched itself onto one of the boards on deck, leaving a black mark in its shape. Still, the memory of hearing the doleful echoes of “Goodbye Aerisa~!” from the kids that day, followed her as the boat set sail.

The rest of the journey to Laisgard was somewhat of a blur. Not trusting the ship captain to ferry her off and sell her off as a child slave instead of where she should be headed to, Aerisa spend most nights being half awake, having just enough rest to get her through the next day.

“For the ritual.
Wait-what!?! Could you please explain?!?” she asked, panicking a little as she received another three word answer “To cleanse you.
I’m sorry but I’m not religious! No! I don’t believe~! Ah! I want to eat that!

As she entered the room, she noticed an altar with a gigantic brass bowl of fire at the end of the room and a band of priests whom were there (and probably had been there for a long time already), chant-singing “Ari adiamus late ari adiamus da ari a natus late adua …” whilst banging on drums in quite a war-like beat and playing the flute.

Flicking to the first page of the book, he started to read and the other priests in the room repeated after him,
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.

Oh sheet. As in the blanket sheet because that’s what she wanted to hide under at the moment. Aerisa wore a rather unreadable, blank expression as she silently gulped. She had definitely woken up from her daze. How could she not have seen these two people with such intimidating auras, both of whom were just in front of her? To Aerisa, the lady whom she had bumped into accidentally was not only freakishly tall, but also had a different air of strength around her that she didn’t normally see in women. The only other airs of “strength” that she had witnessed were those of the brusque middle-aged shopkeepers whom shout and drag out their mincing mallets/clubs whenever someone tries to sell their things in front of their stores and the agro old lady who swings her walking stick at anyone who walks within a meter of her in fear of pickpockets. But this was more of a majestic type of strong, the type of strong that Aerisa hoped to be able to be (not that she had all that much time left to achieve it though).
From the look in the lady’s eyes, the young Taratran was certain that she stepped on this cat’s tail and desperately hoped that none of the sweet snack she was eating got onto the lady’s clothing (and none did), but decided to firstly apologise for colliding. But as her luck would have it, nothing came out and the girl stood there for a few seconds staring blankly ahead, with her mouth slightly ajar before clearing her throat, shutting her mouth and smiling slightly sheepishly. “Coordination will do you well if you wish to survive any longer, child.” Aerisa heard before giving a nod of acknowledgement,
I’m very sorry. I shall keep that in mind.” She apologised. In truth she wanted to say “I’m sorry, I was distracted and I didn’t see you there…” But she kept those words in her thoughts as she knew that they’d only sound like excuses if she actually voiced them. Looking on the bright side of her situation, Aerisa knew that at least she’ll have time to make up for her mistake and correct her bumbling first impression later on.

"Are you alright, Miss?" She turned to the man who spoke to her. He looked like a calm and kind person, but there was something about his voice that didn’t really gel with her. The girl took a small moment to think. Where had she heard this kind of tone before? Ah, yes, that sneaky weasel that tried to flock off his wares…on her side of the port. That sunnuvadog man had a reputation of persuasively convincing many wives of shop owners to sell his faulty goods stuff in their stores or to allow him to sell his things nearby. Of course, Aerisa wasn’t exactly as shallow as to believe his sweet nothings and promptly chased him out when he tried to ask her whether he could trade on her turf. The strawberry blonde teen knew she was subconsciously making a connection between him and that guy based solely on their voices and that it didn’t mean that all men who sounded like that acted that way. Yet, she needed some time to make sure that her assumptions were false.
Yes, I’m fine thanks.” Aerisa answered albeit a bit curtly, nevertheless showing a bright smile and a thumbs up in his general direction before turning to the other who helped her up.
Thank you.” The young girl couldn’t really read what type of guy he was at the moment, but she thought that his sense of humour was amusing.

Once she was back on her feet, the Taratran took a few steps to the side away from the doorway and settled down with her back leaning against a wall as she went on to observing those around her. Aerisa thought that she wasn’t one to judge people based on their appearances (though in reality she probably did a little), but there seriously was a diverse range of people in the room. She took a brief glance (and only a very brief glance) at the man standing next to Vasanta, whom that guy that had helped her up addressed as “Grey”. He looked as if he had killed a lot of people, maybe even an assassin for hire. And why was he a young Gandalf the grey his hair prematurely grey? Did he have a lot of stress to deal with or was it hereditary or did he think it was fashionable? Either way, Aerisa made a mental note never to anger that man.

The quiet, shy-looking lady from Bel-Qir and the solemn sounding man from Deepfathom didn’t pique her initial interest quite as much as the others did, but she still acknowledged both of them with a small smile. Their talk of offering lives and devil’s water had seemed so bleak and the young Taratran wondered whether they’d found these people in the bottom of a very dark hole, crouched in a corner and waiting for the universe to implode. Sure, she sympathised with them, after all, they were all (minus Vasanta and Grey) on the same boat and heading for the chopping board. But she had rather quickly gotten out of that dark hole. Perhaps with the notion that she’d rather die happily if possible, but maybe it was because she didn’t completely understand the weight of the situation. Either way, with a small shrug, she put her thoughts aside with a small shrug, but still, she continued to wonder why destiny would make things turn out this way for her.

As the introductions kept rolling, Aerisa thought it’d be best to make her own.
Well, it’s a pleasure to make your acquaintances~. I am Aerisa Rhemy Fiamette of Taratras~.” She grinned, giving a small wave as she took a few seconds to consider the question of what she had to offer. To be honest, she was quite stumped. The lady from Bel-Qir had summed it up pretty much and Aerisa couldn’t think of what else they wanted her to put to the table. Coming from a middle-high class family, of course she could say money, but the Taratran wasn’t sure how often they’d be stopping at cities and wondered why she had bothered packing so much dough in her bag. She thought that her ability was also something that she could contribute, but wouldn’t they have guessed that she’d have an affinity for fire since they knew she was from Taratras?
I don’t really know what I can offer, but, when are we heading off?
