Or so they say. wink

they don't lie THAT blatantly.

DG: When that art was commissioned, ZEN was barely a twinkle in good old boy Rosewater's mind. There's no connection.
Baneslayer Angel, that is all. biggrin

How'd they lie about Baneslayer?
I think I've made my point. surprised

If you're referring to the mythic status, it definitely deserves it. Pro-demon and pro-dragon are very flavorful. And they never really said that Mythics wouldn't be constructed staples.
Hey, hey, I never said anything about that. You did. wink Methinks thou dost protest too much.

Nah, that is just the most common argument about Baneslayer that I hear, and it is kind of annoying. P:

But I really do think that they wouldn't lie to us that hugely, in flavor text, and in articles. Plus, traps just kinda makes sense as something shady adventurers leave behond, not some sort of Hedron lunacy. I think on cobra trap, that Hedron appears to have been deactivated for quite some time, so maybe the snake just lived in it?

And Megiddo, you do know that they plan sets 4-6 years before they see print? They usually have all of the cards in, minus some room for some standard fixers, 1-3 years in advance. So the idea has been kicking around for a while.

Nah, most of the mythics I agree with(Baneslayer, for example, is an epicly awesome Malfegor-slaying angel... that's awesome.)

However... A counterspell, a snake, and a little piddly goblin...? Not epic... in the least.

The counter is something that is more aimed at an older format, and is an interesting mechanic. It is mechanically unusual enough to get the mythic slot, and it is a rare that many will kinda want.
The snake gets by on it's name. Lotus is certainly epic in magic wording.
The goblin is reminiscent of one of the best creatures ever made, but x2. Sounds pretty epic to me.

The counter... maybe if they had some better flavor text... the picture just doesn't seem... "epic".

No lotuses I've seen have been epic... o.O They're all good, but not epic.

Just because a card is nostalgic for an old, amazing card, doesn't mean it's "epic", just good.

This all comes down to what "feels" epic... A Giant Sphinx that resurrects artifacts? Epic. A gigantic demon that steals souls? Epic. A huge-a** dragon that appears on a whim and burns everything in its wake? Epic. A humongous demon-dragon that tyrannizes all around him into oblivion? Epic.

A snake that gives mana...?

That's not "epic"... just good.

Epic is not always good, and good is not always epic.

(P.S. In order: Sharuum, Prince of Thralls, Bogardan Hellkite, Malfegor, Lotus Cobra.)

I agree with the mythic rare status of the aforementioned counterspell, snake, and goblin (though, honesly, I didn't appreciate pulling Warren Instigator in my packs). They all have big effects on the game. If you got smacked by a Warren Instigator a few times, you can definitely bet you've given up a bit of advantage tempo-wise. There's no arguing about the Lotus Cobra...if you know what you're doing, you can get three or four mana per turn pretty easily, and one reliably. As early as turn 2. Of any color you want. And still have a decent attacker, as well as a creature that can block. And the Mindbreak Trap...I can't see anyone who would want to take one of those...especially if your opponent played it for it's trap cost. I'd say all three are way more worth it than some Mythics...*coughConfluxcough*. And Lich's Mirror, Lord of the Pit, and Mayel. All three have very unique effects, usually found in higher rarities (esp. the goblin and the snake) No one said a Mythic Rare had to be epic or all that good. It's the same with Rare slots as well...you could get something epic out of those, but you're just as likely to pull something that you really would like to trade in, or just don't work for the deck style you're toting. After all, I couldn't rid myself of my Eternity Vessel and my Lorthos for anything worthwhile if I really tried.

Predictions:
A mythic rare land.
Cards with 'return land to hand' effects...like the 'Barrel Down Sokenzan'-type thing.
Creatures with p/t based on lands in play.
More mythic rares people will complain about.
A ton of new traps/allies.
Hopefully a lot more landfall for us to enjoy!

Anyone have any ideas for when Tarmogoyf might see re-print? Since it was one of the Future Sight cards in the special border, it should. Or was that just a rumor?

This now leads us to the next question: How are cards split between rare and mythic rare? Or more to the point, what kind of cards are going to become mythic rares? We want the flavor of mythic rare to be something that feels very special and unique. Generally speaking we expect that to mean cards like Planeswalkers, most legends, and epic-feeling creatures and spells. They will not just be a list of each set's most powerful tournament-level cards.

A Snake, a Gobbo, and a counterspell aren't "epic".

They're not making a mythic land, they don't want mythic rares to define the best utility cards, which lands are.

As for Tarmo: They're more than likely not reprinting him... ever. They have the same chance of reprinting him as they do Steamflogger Boss.

Yes I'm aware. But the TSP mountains look that way for a reason. It's pretty distinct from hedrons.

They have foresight, but not THAT much foresight.

If you catch me whining about not having enough items or gold, kick me in the a** and tell me to start exchanging again. Thanks in advance.

The snake is epic in the way that it is a mystical creature, rare, beautiful, and highly sought (not the card itself, but as an animal itself, as Lotus anything in Magic flavor is always like that.)

The Goblin is really epic mechanically. Seriously. Try it out in casual gobbos.

And Mindbreak was made mythic because it simply is a good card. They said it won't just be a list of powerful cards. They never said some of them wouldn't be.

And I could see a mythic land, if it were truly something awesome flavorwise, and did something really weird.

And Tarmo is a long way from being printed again. It only got the FS border because it had the words "tribal" and "Planeswalker" in it's text box (reminder text, actually.)

And, while all this is cute, it has nothing to do with the little information we have.

We have a single card (nick)name.
We know that the set is a small set.
We know that Traps and Allies are likely to reappear, as well as a variant on Kicker, and more Landfall abilities.
There are likely to be no new cycles of lands, due to drafts being 2 Zen, 1 WW. That will present all three of the cycles in two packs.
A familiar Planeswalker will be coming back - most likely Jace, though white will be getting a new one, I suspect.

My perdiction and its more for the entire block than just worldwake sorry is that River of Tears and Friends will make an appearance why, well because if a land is played it switches color, this is a very landfall like mechanic and would fit flavorfully in the set, I also think that Dryad Arbor and friends might show up due to being creature lands and working extrememly well with landfall also

I can see RoT cycle appearing in the part 3 of Zen, but I don't think we'll see it in WW.

Dryad Arbor just feels wrong for the world (and, we have no Dryads that I can think of yet).

My logic in Dryad Arbor actually leans more towards worldwake in this sence and its bad logic i know but if the world is waking might not the lands also awaken, just a thought, anyhow im sure that whatever happens it'll be cool, and we need more milll like Archive trap, Yay Archive trap

I could see creature lands. They did say that Worldwake would have a lot of the weird land stuff that we should have expected in Zendikar. We may not get Dryad Arbor, but I'd be happy to see some bigger ones, possibly that require mana when they come in. :]

As for the RoT type lands, I would love them, but I doubt we'll see them. :/ They are a bit convoluted in practice too, not to say they aren't good.

Sharks are too awesome for Gaia apparently.
Questing: Every Evolving Item within 2 days of it's release.

MY SIGN SHOPPE!
And when they create the land with Flash, I think that's when we know Magic is dead. Because there's only one color it can be in - blue.
