Convertible from what or two what?
He didn't say. He just showed the edges of the card.
No, you asked for thoughts on it. Those are my current thoughts.
Ohhhh... P:
I think it is going to be a mill based card, personally. You know, takes the top off. P:
....must resist urge to do inappropriate things regarding "top" and "off"...after all, Ishka may read this, and I don't want to tip my hand too much.
Anyways, I dunno. While it may be mill, I think that the card is more likely to be "Landfall - whenever you play a land, you may switch this creature's power and toughness until end of turn."
As a 1/4 for 2U, of course.
Maro said there were rules complications involved with Convertible Turtle, and how it got a slight power boost when it moved from Zendikar to Worldwake. I doubt that it simply switching power and toughness would give it rules complications, since they make cards that do that a lot (in fact, it is Maro's favorite effect.)
Let's see here, the key is that it gets a power boost. Rules complications happen for tons of cards.
Hmm...what would it get in terms of power boost?
1) Constructed doesn't make a difference. Since the sets are all fair game, there's no real power shift at all in a format in terms of individual cards. Interactions showing up, yes, but the cards themselves do not change.
2) This leads to it being something in Limited. Constructed with Z/W = 3 Z, 3 W, and Sanctioned Draft = 2 Z, 1 W. So, something about that quantity makes it powerful.
But what?
We're dealing with lands as a probable focus, due to the set. There's likely to be a new mechanic, as well as some kicker changes.
So let's eliminate the past.
Landfall is not a rules issue, unless it involves countering a spell - in which case, playing lands in response to trigger landfall isn't really hard to do, just green. Nor is it a complicated matter; its as formulaic as Mogg Fanatic used to be.
So its not Landfall.
Nor is it kicker - kicker always happens immediately, and is a part of paying the cost. Kicker works with Buyback, Flashback, playing a card via Dream Halls/whatever, so giving it Kicker would not in any way stretch the rules.
No other past mechanics are back, so that's it for old stuff.
Its the spin on Kicker, as well as the new mechanic, that, in combination with the ratio of cards (3/3 or 2/1) that makes the card "gain power."
Unless...it is convertible because it isn't wholly a creature. It's a land/creature. Think Zoetic Caverns, but backwards.
And I think that's enough of me trying to crack an egg with minimal information. The mark is clearly that way, while I'm over here.
