Welcome to Gaia! ::

Hello, all.

I've decided to try and start up a small tournament for the Magic: The Gathering players here on Gaia.

Entry fee will be 200 G, limited to 16 players.

Tournament format will be 3 rounds of swiss cutting to Top 4 single-elimination, or 5 rounds total.

[EDIT]The Format has been decided! It will be Standard (Type 2)

The following sets are legal:

8th Edition
Mirrodin
Darksteel
Fifth Dawn
Champions of Kamigawa
Betrayers of Kamigawa

And the following cards are banned:

Disciple of the Vault
Skullclamp
Arcbound Ravager
Darksteel Citadel
Ancient Den
Seat of the Synod
Vault of Whispers
Great Furnace
Tree of Tales
[/EDIT]

All participants must submit a decklist (of at least 60 cards) and sideboard (of exactly 0 or 15 cards) to me via PM or Email along with payment for the tournament.

Prize structure:

First Place: 1000G + Donation Letter
Second Place: 750G
Third Place: 500G
Fourth Place: 250G
Best Sportsmanship: Donation Letter

Each round will last for one week, or when all players have completed their matches, whichever comes first. Any matches that have not been completed by this time will recieve a 24-hour grace period and then will result in a draw for both players.

You may use any medium for your duels, be it Apprentice, MWS, Gaia Forums, AIM, ICQ, etc. You should contact your opponent beforehand and agree on the medium.

When you and your opponent complete your match (best of 3, you may sideboard in between games in a match), each of you must submit a log of the games to me via PM or Email along with the results.

How the tournament works:

The Swiss Format is a "fair" format in that everyone gets to play every round, reguardless of their record. Based on your performance in each match, you are awarded points: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. Every round, you are randomly paired against a player who has a similiar record to you. After three rounds, the top four players will then compete in a single elimination bracket to determine the winner.

Even if you bomb out of all three rounds of Swiss, don't fret! You still have a chance to win a prize. After the first three rounds, I want everyone to send me a PM on which opponent they thought was the most sportsmanlike and why. The player to recieve the most votes will recieve a free Donator Letter from me as a "thank you" for being such a great guy.

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Should any rules complications arise, again don't hesitate to PM me or send me a message over AIM and I'll get back to you ASAP.

For those who do not have Apprentice, you can download it, and the patch for Betrayers of Kamigawa, here at magic-league.com:

One last thing for you Apprentice users:

Apprentice auto-logs everything you do in a file called "Tourney.log". If you forget to go to File -> Save Buffer to save the log, simply send me a copy of that file BEFORE you open Apprentice again.
I refuse to play in a tourney that is run by someone who wants to remove Rebecca Guay from Magic. gonk
I'm sorry to hear that. To be honest, I think she's a great artist, but I just don't think her style suits the game.
Oh... and I forgot to mention: I only play Extended and Drafts.
If I played Standard I would participate.
I can bump until you get enough people though.
Thanks for the help. THough it should only need to be bumped every few hours or so. Don't want to seem like a nuisance.

Just like the Foglios' styles didn't suit the game? rolleyes
I prefer a variation in the artwork, otherwise it all looks the same. This "Magepunk" style that the art director is going for (or has said he is going for) is no good. Her style works for cards that don't require muscle-bound freaks or half-naked women or Badass (TM) creatures.

However, to get back on topic, I might be interested in playing. I haven't played for a while, so I may have to bombard you with rules questions.
I'm also a Rules Nazi... I mean I judge the local tourneys around here. When you start the tourney I can help with rulings and judging.
Excelent! Xiviq, you're more than welcome to help out, and Tagra, bombard away with the questions.

As for Ms. Guay, there's also her tendancy to put half- or completely-naked chicks in her art. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I'm sure Jeremy Cranford thinks someone down the line will find something wrong with it.

See what I mean?
The way I see her artwork however, it's more of an artistic side to it instead of "Hey! I have ginormous tits under this little piece of clothing!"

whee
I definately have to agree with that one.

Also, I will admit, that her art definately suit Kami in the current sets.

I think I've only seen one, which was some flower thing. I'm going to have to start collecting her cards again. gonk
Cool, after you have enough people... just let me know when. And we could have a chat conference using yahoo or something so someone may ask a question and get it answered as fast as I can type... and if there's a question about how certain cards work together and they don't want their opponent to know what they plan they can just send me a private message.
If it's content someone has an issue with, there are many worse cards in terms of scantily clad or partially nude women in Magic.
For example...

I'll see your transfixer and raise you shirtless.</gutter>

Anyway, the main reason for the whole sig is to piss off Rancored_Elf over at MTG Salvation. He's a Rebecca Guay fanatic. Despite having found images for Scourge Product over two months before it was release, he still hasn't acknowledged me. Same with providing early scans of Inquest's Mirrodin preview way back when.
