*nods* Yeah, damn power gamers.

Dear god, and not only that, the worst of the lot can get whinny about it outside of game. And is my roommate. Do you have any idea what it's like to have a storytelling style, but to have a player who's a math whiz, game mechanic-breaking specialist, powergamer for a roommate??? Honest to Discord, I just let the group get away with stuff, because then I only have the headaches in game, not the rest of the week too. Oi-vay... stressed

Watch Your Back
Shoot Strait
Conserve Ammo
Never, Ever, Cut a Deal with a Dragon
I know what its like Sprainogre. A reason why i dont GM people whine and cry if i say no to something. And i hate it when people whine and cry so i just give people what they want so i dont end up putting up an agument then the game really breaks down then.

I'm thinking Profession for free could be good actually....that's rather surprising the only class that doesn't get Profession is the Barbarian. I'm surprised the druid has it.

*goes to check up on the convos on Paizo*

Barbarians are too uncivilized to have Profession for a skill and besides, most 'barbarian' civilizations didn't have money until the Romans took them over, they used barter and trade instead. So Profession for them doesn't make much sense.

Its not the fact that the barbarian doesn't have it, its that the druid does.

Also Barbarian isn't a culture, its just a class. A large portion of 'barbaric' civilizations are going to be made up of other classes all of which have Profession as a class skill.

>.> No they're not. razz Go see the post I made in the It's D&D!!! thread so I dont' derail convo in this one about it. ^^

Well, there's still plenty of things that a barbarian culture would have that are "covered" by Profession. Hunter, Guide, Herbalist, despite the complete lack of rolling needed to be these things unless your going to be trying to make gold these are "professions" that could easily be available to those from a barbarian culture. And of course you can't be one of these without the skill didn't you know. rolleyes

In the average, barbaric town your looking at about 15 maximum actual Barbarians out of 901-2000 people, whom would all be of classes which gain Profession as a skill.

I mean even examining what Profession is supposed to be, it is not actually a skill in IRL either. Being a professional for anything just means that you use your set of skills for gain. Being a professional doesn't actually represent any amount of competence in the related skills that are needed for your job.

So my character could still be lets say a guide, as long as he didn't do it for money. sweatdrop There I'm a guide without the need of the Profession skill, because unless I'm intending on earning money from it I can just do it for free. I'll just put ranks in Knowledge (geography) and Survival instead. wink

Looks like Playtesting this weekend is bunked, sigh...

Promised to go to a Barbare Shop show with my grandmother, sweatdrop

I'm running a playtest. We're doing level 1 currently. Fighter, Cleric, Wizard, and a rogue will be added next session. Most likely much to the relief to the Trapspringers.

So far the player of the fighter is pleased with the new feats, but in comparison we won't know until we start playtesting in the higher levels.

Currently I've got 4 adventures planned. I intend on running a 20th level module with a group once all the class are released, but not before.

Session One

There's the link for where I'm going to be recording feedback for our playtests. Plus all the updating I'm doing. I've already did minor updates to NPC classes to reflect the new system.

I did some 1st level builds to check out the different starting hp too. I found that Constitution is too much, Standard and Racial are not enough, Double or Flat seem the best options currently. Though I beleive the flat needs to be at least +8 not +6 to make the durability worth while. I'm more personallly favourable to the double for its simplicity, but at the same time it refects your class selection stronger.

Skills need regrouping. Theft with Open Lock I'm not a fan of, belongs in Disable Device. There's a thread of talk of revisement for the Heal skill, so that you can heal minor amounts of actual hp dmg. As for preference for skill system, not for the ranks system, I'm going to try the hybrid in the second game, but I think starting skill points may need to be increased for a few classes to make it viable.

Though my thread says Session One, I'm pretty sure I'm just going to put everything in there.

Didn't know that was you on Paizo. Glad to know. I read it and enjoyed it. Glad to see everyone taking a different approach to the game. If you see fliprushman on there, that's me.

Didn't expect to see the whole Profession debate come over here. I monitor it but really have nothing to contribute to it. I don't care to see it go or stay. It has no impact on the game. Same with NPC classes. Let them have the profession skill, they need it to buy all our adventuring finds. xd

lol Good point! I really do like the idea of Profession becoming a feat that gives you various skill bonuses, depending on the profession.
Profession apothecary, for example, would give you bonuses on Craft-poisons, heal checks and crafting potions.

The skills you would gain as class skills for being whatever profession you choose would go a long way in fleshing out some of the less skillful classes skill selections. Would you rather have a feat that adds a +3 to one skill, or a feat that makes three skills class skills? The potential gain for the latter is much greater than the former. At first level you would be one point behind but by 20th level that skill would be, what? A whole 9 points better?

I know that I would love to have perception as a class skill for my Fighter, I don't know about you ...

I don't care either way myself, in our games almost no one chooses the skill anyways. But their are those whom like it, hence my idea of the Profession feat. I'm pretty sure it would increase aquisition rate as a feat more often than it does as skill.

And I'm glad you enjoyed the read. smile Just wish people would make comments in it besides me. sweatdrop I'm going to post up a revised kobold and orc later today. But first I have an interview to do this afternoon.

Correction: only the players aiming for a prestige class that requires a few ranks in a profession took it, and even then only the bare minimum required.

I groaned when I was playing Living Greyhawk and one of the magic items as a treasure was something that added +5 to Profession: gambler (cards of the shark). None of the players opted to take it as treasure and I honestly don't blame them. What profession as a skill needed was more utility - even in the Living Greyhawk setting which allowed for downtime - unspent time units for the year could be used for Profession/Craft rolls - Profession wasn't worth the time.
