Metamagic Mastery doesn't really need changing. That ability really reflects a sense of diversity and clear understanding of how to manipulate spells.

So the replacement would have to be for Hand of the Apprentice. A limited use ability.

Though I have to say Hand of the Apprentice is better most of the other limited use abilities.

Diviner's Fortune, Dazing Touch, and blinding ray don't last very long.

Acid Dart, Force Missile, and Telekinetic Fist can't match to the damage output of Hand of the Apprentice as you could use multiple weapons to make the attacks. And you could easily outpace damage much earlier.

Grave Touch and Protective Ward, are matched to usefulness.

So maybe Metamagic Mastery should replaced, I mean its the only advanced ability that requires the wizard to have a certain kind of feat to be useful.

Note I'm not comparing the Universalists abilities to the abilities: Resistance, Summoner's Charm, Enchanting Smile, Intense Spells, Forewarned, Extended Illusions, Power over Undead, or Physical Enhancement. These are the abilities that a specialist gains for their sacrifice.

Well, from what I can see...

Perhaps all we have to do really is take out the improved familiar option that us guys at the homebrew added,

Then keep merely the spells known.

Thus the specialists get an extra spell slot, though the universalists would know more spells.

I dunno...

Erg...my post was eaten.

Quote:
Universalist School: What can I say? Give up one spell casting of every level you can cast, so that spells from 2 schools of your choice don't take double slots to memorize? This is an absolutely terrible, awful, dismal deal. Being a generalist in Pathfinder is a practice in masochism, don't do it.

From Treant's analysis, I think the real problem is the way he is looking at it. You don't give up one spell casting every level. The default is Universalist. Therefore Specialists gain an additional casting.

Yeah but, specialist mine as well be a default now, and he's looking at it from an optimizers point of view.

Though I'll take the stand that he could be wrong / I could be wrong, whichever it is, ANYWAY.

Well see an optimizer perspective is not a good reason to change something.

Also I'd like to point out that the abilities aren't the issue. Universalist's abilities were in the top three of ability choices. His nitpick is the 'loss' of spells per day.
I should start talking about the APG classes. I heard they were gonna release PFPG 2 a month after apg.

Your first point there. Is an argument finisher. You win, sir.

Your second point, I know, that's why I said keep the two abilities as are and just make it so they get additional spells known (not per day) So it's alternate and more universalist like.

I dunno anyway

I'll drop that little thingy of trying to help those guys. I've gotta worry about my Campaigns, and my organization of homebrew and such which I REALLY need to sort/finish so that I can get it the freak off my computer, and or use it >< lol

Found this in my random file. (Acquired from Pathfinder Database)

Personally, I'm thinking it's sort of a bad idea, but I dunno... Sooo

Comments?

I'd probably remove the diety requirement and replace with "cannot be good or evil"....possibly raise the charisma requirment.
Decided to cut drugs from my game entirely ><

D&D really should have did an official thing on drug like items though... Would have added another level of realism.
