Honestly, I'm not too excited about play-by-post, but I'm in for a campaign for the first time and will see how it goes. I like either in person, or some software and a chatroom.
yeah, you just dont get the same feel for the atmosphere when you play by post. plus you dont get those hilarious metagame moments nearly as much cuz everyone is bitching at you to stop metagaming.
Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.
Matthew 7:6
I prefer in-person, but I also love the more in-character-rich online instant games, where you have time to type out your character's actions and interactions and really get into character. I dislike PbP though, because I don't like having to wait more than 10 minutes to do something in a combat.
Badass in a can... made of sexy.

Looking to grab a Prince of Thieves. Yeah, it's a quest. Fine.
Ya, I know what you mean about waiting for combat. I've done a some non-DnD RPs before and sometimes we had to wait a couple days to hear back from someone. It really slowed the whole process down. I guess there was some suspense. Will the bullets land???? But that suspense got old pretty fast.
The only problem is trying to find a group of people who are available at the same time, want to play the same game, AND all have the same software or are wiling to download it. Oh well, I guess part of the fun is the hunt right? No, scratch that, this hunt isn't that much fun, haha.
They both have their highs and lows really. Play by post is more sporatic and checked up on from time to time. More time to prepare and done leasurely with little devotion.
P2P: Is personaly my favorite, I enjoy watching first hand reactions from players and being able to be immersed in the game for a few hours, none of this barton town bullshit.
I myself prefer playing around a table with my friends in person. True, you have to organize everything and find time slots in which everyone is available (we have settled for Sunday...), but it's a lot more fun that way! smile
I think you need to rebuild or poll with better worded choices that aren't as leading. For example "In Person Only" suggests that you only play in person and don't use computer programs ever.
A better title your poll would perhaps be "What is your primary method for playing D&D" : In Person, play by post/email, mail, instant messenger/virtual table-top, mail, phone/VOIP phone.
Cooperate with those who have both know-how and integrity.
Squeeze every last drop out of those insolent, musical, peasants.
In college my friends and me made a college club just for role playing games> It was so cool! The club lasted about 3 years and then most of the people had moved away or were just to busy to play anymore, I miss playing D&D all the time now I only get to play like once every 4 months or so. I never thought about playin it online that would seem weird but maybe.

He lies >.>' he loves IMing games more <.<' he is just confused lol
I prefer real life D&D; nothing gets done faster than having a bunch of friends sitting around a table, talking and discussing the game. Besides real life, I still prefer online chatrooms or IM games over PBP.
Hehe I had no clue that there was software for online DND.
=D
I've RPed stuff, not DND, online by posting and even though I enjoy writing essays I love the improvisation that goes on with my friends. I'm a ham of an actress so I lean toward the in person type of thing. But I now want to try a post version of DND just cause I didn't do it before. <3
