"Great is truth, but still greater, from a practical point of view, is silence about truth. By simply not mentioning certain subjects... totalitarian propagandists have influenced opinion much more effectively than they could have by the most eloquent denunciations."
---Aldous Huxley
“Until they became conscious they will never rebel, and until after they have rebelled they cannot become conscious.”
--- George Orwell

"The future is perfect. No war, no crime. No fear and no hatred. There is no such thing as sadness, perhaps disappointment and perhaps a feeling of not being apart of something greater. But, ultimately, mankind has found a strange perfection amongst itself. In relinquishing his freedoms mankind has found that the only true way to allow oneself to be "happy" is to be controlled by something much greater than he. Not a religious figure, but a sentient one for sure."

As stated above, the future is somewhere near "perfect," if you would call it that. True, war and disease are all but eradicated, fear and hatred are two emotions that don't register on the spectrum with which most humans operate. Buildings are tall and grey, sleek and made to a perfect standard; no inch is out of place, not a single centimeter. Small buildings are packed together in shapes resembling that of storehouses, yet they are all homes.
Above you rises the hidden hand of The Father, Big Brother, or officially known as the United Coalitions Government For The People, often shorted to UCG.
Time for a short history lesson.
In 2234 the UCG came into power and vowed to end poverty and disease. The UCG was a joining of nearly every nation on Earth with the exception of Iceland and Australia, both of which have been erased from the history books in any country ruled by the UCG. In 2345 the UCG successfully cures cancer, the common cold, and manages to feed the entirety of Africa as well as house and educate the general population. In doing this the people grew trusting of the UCG and began praising them.
The UCG controls the media, it controls the narrative which is explained to the common citizen. At first there was slight dissent as those who found the truth via the internet began voicing their complaints. Unfortunately, over the years many of those voices were drowned out and forgotten in a rising tide of trivial news matters, celebrity gossip, and ads. The government had found that rather than silencing those voices who attempted to sway the public through forceful means was not effective and would only encourage more rebellion --- if not open revolution.
The UCG began running as many stories as possible. Most, if not all, were based entirely on the most trivial situations they could find or come up with. To justify this, the UCG stated in 2350: "We seek to keep our populace informed, to keep the people up to date on everything that is happening in the world. We believe it is our duty as the protectors of the great nations that make up the UCG." And the people accepted it.
Soon enough posters with pro-UCG propaganda began appearing on every corner, on every wall, on every television and on every computer. Almost overnight, every UCG country was covered in propaganda.
Eventually a terrorist attack struck at the center of the UCG. The destruction of the Great House of The Coalition was destroyed by three expertly placed explosives, killing up to one-thousand civilians and 35 politicians, who had been meeting to vote on ending the propagandizing. The UCG acted quickly, "in the people's interests." First they shut down transportation, then they cut off access to the internet to "scan for terrorists and any others who would seek to harm the great citizens of the UCG." The people accepted this with open arms. Soon, all the people could do was stay at home and watch television.
Over the span of two months the UCG would broadcast pro-government messages, show only government approved material, and would report trivial news while ignoring the terrorist attack entirely. In the span of those two months most of the populations were subdued and accepting of the government.
And so civilization ground to a startling halt.
The year is 2680, there have been a few improvements to the lives of the common citizen. He may have a robotic butler at his side at all times, he will be fed and hydrated to keep him alive. The robot will protect and watch him at all times to be sure he is safe unless told otherwise. Citizens now have computers directly installed into their bodies to monitor their heart rate, their blood pressure, their brain activity, and even their thoughts. This allows the Thought Police, a brand new branch of the Ministry of Justice, to work with impunity. They can find any and all who harbor "dangerous" or "problematic" thoughts. They drive black hover-cars with blacked out windows, enforce the rule of the father with stun-batons and sheer brutality. Any thoughts that might question the legitimacy of the government is quickly picked up and that person is abducted, brought in for questioning, and then re-educated in a mysterious facility known only as The School.
Children are born inducted into the government-centered ideology, they are told never to disobey, to never question the government for it does everything with their safety in mind. They are taught from grade school to report any and all, family included, who question the government or are otherwise not being "Good Citizens." As children, they readily accept this as truth. When they grow up the children are placed into separate categories: Upper, Middle, Lower, and Drone. Those belonging to the Upper Class are highly intelligent, capable of forming their own thoughts, they are entirely subservient to the UCG. The Middle children are the most basic form of human. They live, they die. They do not need jobs, they do not need to think. As such, they simply exist to populate the world. Those belonging to the Lower class are used as organ banks, and they are more than happy to help the UCG with whatever they must do. They do not question, they do not think. The Drones are the lowest form and exist soley to work. They are given drugs to alter their perspectives in order to keep them happy. Whether they are even human anymore is up to debate. They simply are.
Once the UCG came into power, technology stagnated. Where once men and women of immense intelligence would find ways around problems, would invent and innovate, would work on the advancement of the culture and society as a whole, there is now only the Father. Technology stagnated, as did society and civilization. The highest peak that humanity had managed, the final peak, was hover-car technology.
Yet, you are an oddity. You were born somewhere strange, where the government had no control. In a far-off land whose name is erased from the text books. You do not have a computer installed in you, you do not have the UCG looking over your shoulder and, most importantly, you have your own free will, a thing that has long been forgotten and ignored in favor of control and civility.
What will you do? You could try to fight the power of the government, to take them down and install yourself as the new leader to usher in a Golden Era where the people are taught individuality. Or, maybe, you won't do that. Maybe you'll sit at the very top and look down at the ants below you. Perhaps you'll only try to make a living in this new land. That is the great thing about individuality. You can make your choices here and nobody would know how to stop you...
