STORY AND LORE

"And he shall rise, from the ashes of the ages long past, and bestow unto humanity his burning eye, and no mercy will await us."
--- On The Tainted, pg 17, by Jord Lo'reth

"For as long as the world has spun there has been a war waging in the depths of every man's heart, every woman's heart, and every child's heart. The battle of the Light over the Dark. "
--- The Life Of Man, Pg 1, by Alec Baroth

Humanity.

Long ago, before your father's father, and his father's father, the world was crafted from a single stone drifting through the empty abyss. Two God-brothers came upon the stone as they drifted and found that the stone held on its small body tiny creatures. Birds and wolves, bears and rabbits. One brother, Allfather, had decided to assist the life in its progress. He allowed mankind to be born, stopped the world from floating endlessly, and crafted the very Sun from his flesh. For a while, humanity flourished.

The other brother, whom we know as the Darkfather, watched silently from afar. As the world came into its shape he grew jealous. Darkfather believed that the world was supposed to float endlessly, that was its purpose and to keep it from it's purpose went against fate. Darkfather made himself known to humanity, appearing as a horseman who brought with him a thousand shadows and a thousand nights. He plagued the world with dark clouds and endless rains. Allfather, in his frustration with his brother, also came down to the world and cleared the clouds and lead a great army of silver-clad knights against the dark.

The two clashed, the two warred, for a twenty days and twenty nights they battled in a field crafted by the blood of their followers. At last the two brothers conceded that they were equally matched. They agreed that the war between them should not be fought by themselves but by humanity.

And so it was.

Ages passed and ages came. A new war, a new purpose, a new hero, a new villain. The world went by many times as the ages flowed. Los, Ke'lun, Des. and a thousand others, but now it is called Avalon. For a while, peace was brokered between the Tainted of the Northern end of Avalon and the Men of the Light in the south. Only fifty years ago were they at war. It was at the city of New Therein that the last battle was fought. At the end of the battle both sides came out immensely bloodied. The field was painted red where once a sea of green, fresh, grass was dominant. It was there that the Cities of Man and the Tainted Lords made their pact. However, since the pact had been made both Man and Tainted have been gearing up for another war.

At the city of T'avellun the mages of the Diamond Throne is given a vision.
"They will rise
"Above the ashes of their foes
"Power flowing through their hands, around their hearts.
"A fire to match the Allfather's.
"To fight in the Final Battle."

They predicted the coming of the Champion of Light, a figure who had been a man of legend, the general of the forces of the Allfather in the First War, Artur Dragonsbane. It was said that he would only return to save the world when the world neared its end.

Far off, in the Dark Tower, A circle of witches is given a vision.
"Black as night,
"Sword of stone,
"They rise above the ashes of their foes.
"A shadow as long as Darkfather's.
"To fight in the Final Battle."

The witches had predicted the fated coming of the Champion of the Dark. No stories of such a champion exist in the histories, and many of the Tainted view this as a good omen.

Avalon slowly falls into turmoil. Many all across the continent rise to meet the call of their Lords and Gods. From a lowly peasant to a mighty baron, all are welcome to join the Legions of the Dark and the Armies of Silver.

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

"The Dragonsbane is a reincarnation of an ancient hero who, in the Ancient Eons, was called Artur Pa'Draguun. He was the highest ranked general in the Allfather's army. He had been granted the strength to wrench the mighty Sword of Mankind from the stone tip of Dragon's Tooth mountain. He named the blade Darkslayer, and it now rests in the heart of Jerusallaim, a mighty fortress erected on the site of Artur's death.

The legend tells of many heroic exploits of Artur; from the slaying of the dragons with his army of bow-masters to his siege of the Tainted capital, Garuuth. As he was the chosen general of the Allfather, he was said to be able to wield the Aether in battle as well as a blade; something that is almost unheard of throughout history.

"It is said that Artur Dragonsbane would return to Avalon when the world was nearing its end to fight for all of humanity."

"The Aether is a powerful force that is not yet understood. It's known that it consists of the basic elements that created the universe. The power of the air, the power of Life, the power of Fire, the power of Water, the power of Earth, and finally the simply named True Power."
--- Zachair Richmont, pg 14, The Aether

"The True Power is pulled from the very depths of the universe; it is the very handle through which the Gods enter our realm. It's the edge of the mountain of power that the Allfather and Darkfather wield. Whoever can master this would be almost unstoppable..."
--- Geogh Sincal, pg 66, Understand the Aether and the Power

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

Often times simply called magic by the poor folk and the Aether by those with knowledge beyond simple stories, the Aether, or Magic, is what created the universe initially. It is what crafted the Gods and gave them the ability to create humanity. It is the very source of what drives the universe and, it is said, that the very sun is running on only a single drop of the Power. Though humans can harness this, it is constrained by the amount of which that can be wielded by the human. No human is ever strong enough to wield enough to create a new universe or plane and no human is ever strong enough to create life --- though many have tried.

The Aether is something similar to a fog. Those that can wield the Aether can usually see it as a very slight haze around the world. The aether is present around all humans, though only a very small percent can actually wield it.

In the Ancient Aeons it was said that every human could wield the Aether, and that everyone was forced to attend a special school called the Silver Tower where they would be taught how to wield the power without destroying or harming those around them. However, as time has passed so too has the natural talent to wield the Aether, and only a select few may actually use this. For some strange reason females are much more attuned to the Aether than males are, and this often leads to a 5-3 ratio of Aetheric Wielders.

The Silver Tower is home to the Diamond Throne, which is a seat of power ruled entirely by a circle of Wielders.

T'AVALLUN

The city of T'avellun is also home to the Silver Tower that is the academy for all those gifted in the Aether. As such, a small percent of the population of the city is made up by Wielders who are able to live more lavish lives than most.

T'avellun is surrounded by a shimmering sea and rivers, protecting itself even further. Ships are almost always running in and out of the city, commerse is booming, and the people are almost never poor. Each house seems to be built with the next house in mind, and so it creates a visage of perfect symmetry.

Even with their sprawling commerce and fantastic architecture, it does not come near the shining brilliance of the very simple throne room for the Allfather. It is constructed of very basic stone shined to a dim white, the floors are granite, and there is no ceiling above the Throne, which is constructed of oak and iron; instead light dips in and covers whomever sits in the throne in natural light. Though the throne is never sat in by any mortal being, only the Allfather may rest in the throne.

The Silver Tower sits in the exact center of the city surrounded by a small river that goes completely around it. Four silver bridges lead in and out of the tower. The tower is made entirely of whitestone that, strangely, shines brighter in the moonlight than it does in the sun. The reason for this is unknown though there is speculation that it is due to the Wielders dreams powering the tower tenfold during the night.

VASILICA

“It’s a thriving home of trade and commerce, it’s a unique town built on top of a hill and surrounded by flowing rivers. It’s roads carry you from T’avellun to Artur’s Thumb and all the way down to Jerusallaim, it’s Vasilica! The Home of the World!”
--- Unknown Author, pg 1, Traveler’s Guide to Vasilica.

In the ancient tongue, Vasilica meant “trade-town” and it has since stuck to this translation. It sits idly between two rivers and a small lake with the immense forests of Artur’s thumb behind it and the roads to the fortress-city of Jerusallaim and the capital city of T’avellun around it. As the central trading hub, the city is very rich and many nobles have made their homes here. The towers and walls are made from common stone, the roofs of all buildings shine bright orange, and a statue of Artur stands in the center of the city.

Though perhaps not the most interesting city history wise, it is in the direct path of al those who wish to go to T’avellun thanks to the many roads that run through it’s heart. The city guard frequently patrols the roads, keeping them safe from almost all kinds of trouble. There is a saying that is well known throughout Avalon: “The road to T’avellun always leads through the stone gates of Vasilica.”

JERUSALLAIM

The city is built on an island on the site of Artur Pa'draguun's death. It is said he died defending his country from strange foreign invaders who brought with them armor that shone like silver, but with swords as black as the night. These invaders have shown neither hide nor hair to the world since their defeat at the hands of Artur, and it is believed that he actually died peacefully after aging and the story was invented to inspire the people.

However he died, the city was built upon his gravesite. Jerusallaim huge walls taller than those of the capital and twice as many towers. The walls are built from whitestone and thus shine brightly in the night and, through some strange magic, continually shine throughout the night making the city a literal beacon for all pilgrims traveling the rode to the city.

The city itself is a fortress, huge towers placed every two hundred feet along the wall with ballistaes inside their bellies and enough soldiers to conquer the entire nation of Avalon. It is fortunate, then, that the armies of Jerusallaim serve the Allfather and wait patiently for the return of the Dragonsbane. With the rumors of the Dragonsbane's return the city has trained more soldiers than ever before.

Jerusallaim is home to the religion of the Allfather --- though it did not originate here, the First Temple to the Sun is built atop the tomb of Artur and it is said that it's walls shine brighter than all the others. Traditionally, the King of Jerusallaim is also the defender of the Dragonbane's tomb, and so is called the Knight-Defender instead of Lord.

Ⅲ . Please create original characters! Creativity is much appreciated and helps as far as story progression. You can have your character be nearly almost any race of your choosing, and any sexuality is permitted (as long as it's not smothering). You may use any image of your choosing, as long as it is NOT a real person image (meaning you have to use a drawn image)

Ⅳ . Magic is present in this roleplay and those who wield the power must make their way to the Silver Tower so that they can learn and master the Aether. While magic is present, that does not mean that your character can posses god like powers, nor can they truly control their power until they are trained. (please reference to the magic code for an explanation on the magic in this world)

Ⅴ . For the beginning of the RP we are heading towards T'avellun. We leave it up to you on how to get there, however this IS the primary meeting point for the beginning of the roleplay.

Ⅵ . If you and another roleplayer get into a disagreement during a tense fight scene, it is recommended you take care of the issue in your PMs or simply role dice to determine who wins without bias.

Ⅶ . There is some gender roles in this RP due to the time period that it is based in! There cannot be a surplus of women warriors, but it is also not unheard of, of some women going out to fight. If you do wish to play a woman, please address it with one of the mods/ come up with a good back story!

Ⅷ . At this point and time, we are only accepting human roles. While there may be wiggle room in the future, please respect our wishes for now.

For any questions that you may have please contact/pm one of the Mods (he Covenant Man or The Amazing Wiggle) and we will get back to you as quick as we can!

                                      ILITHYIA

AGE: 507 (however only appears 30)
TIT LE: Protector of the Silver Tower and Diamond Throne

HISTORY: Ilithyia was born in the last age of Artur's rule, when crops were prosperous and family's were growing under the watchful eye of their king. She was born to a farmer couple as their only child. Ilithyia was still only a babe when the great king passed on. By the time Ilithyia was in her mid teens, she was showing great promise for the art of magic. She was sent to the capital of T'avellun to the silver tower to heighten her skills in Aether to hopefully master the element of Light. Ilithyia quickly mastered the skill of light as the elder mages whispered that she could possibly be the next Dragonsbane. The mages praised her with having a special gift, that was sure to be worthy of the sword. The mages escorted her to Artur's mighty sword as it shown glinting from a stone. She tried her best to pull out the sword, but no matter how hard she tried, she was unsuccessful. Out of frustration, Ilithyia turned to the mages asking them to teach her the other ways of the Aether, however she was refused. She remained at the silver towers and studied from ancient texts. While she possessed great skill in mastering the ways of all the Aether, it came at a cost. Her hair began to turn white by the time she was twenty, and her aging slowed. She turned to the mages and asked what was wrong, what had she done? The mages responded that while she was born with the ability to master the ways of Aether, it came at a cost. The cost was her humanity. With her ability she was able to help others, but could not use her powers to her own advantage. Ilithyia became a shell of herself as time progressed. She questioned what was the point of power if you could not be with those you loved? She turned to reading books in the library and to teaching others their Aether ability. Occasionally there were a few students who hoped to achieve the same power as her, having their own wishes they wanted to use their magic for. Yet, no one else had the same gift like her, and perished as the Aether ate away at them. Time moved on as Ilithyia was stuck in her slow moving world. She saw love ones pass and her instructors be replaced by new ones. After a certain point, Ilithyia accepted the fact that death was inevitable, however, it was important to make the most of one's short life. She learned to accept her condition and to find joy from little things, but to not get attached. She swore an oath to protect the Diamond throne around the time of her 300th birthday, and has continued to protect the throne and to teach students since.

MAGICx CODE

Humans are able to learn magic, however, it is very limited at this point and time and must be taught thoroughly on it. Humans may only master one kind of magic, due to it being extremely taxing both mentally and physically. If one tries too hard to master other elements, especially upper elements of magic, the result is commonly death. At this point and time, magic is very limited and very few people know how to master it.

Fire controls heat, can create fireballs and hurl them at foes. Fire is the essence of life and the most basic power to learn. One may channel enough fire to burn a forest or to cauterize a wound.

Wind controls the air around you. Push and pull, manipulate smaller objects and the breeze around you or your foes to create a protective shield.

Water is the flow of life. With water, one may assist in sailing or find the nearest source of water in a desert. Healing requires basic knowledge of water to clean wounds.

Earth assists in tracking. The greatest hunters could read the ground as one would read a book. To be a master of Earth would be the greatest hunter.

Life in its most advanced form, may simply bring joy to the world around them and take it away. Life, being highly advanced to even study, is often times forgotten for its very basic effects.

Dark is the power of the Darkfather. Create shadow and hide in shadow. Vanish from sight around your foes or surround them in the darkest night.

Mind is the power of illusions. Make oneself appear taller or smaller, more beautiful or more ugly. The mind is the source of lies and the finder of truths.

Pure is the hardest power to learn. It is not given lightly and those who study it are more likely to kill themselves than to even understand the most basic semblance of Pure. The Pure power is to control a very small sliver, perhaps not even a thumb, of the power of the Gods.
