Well, last I believe he was at the door holding it closed due to the lack of a lock. Perhaps in his weakened state, the undone break it over and trample him, biting him, before we can do anything about it - us narrowly escaping through the window?? Lol. Also, again, I was going last to ensure you could both (well you now haha) get through safely.

Well I have a few suggestions. Just depends on who wants to move him along, or if you both want to simply kill him off. There are a few special infected about. Essentailly Dri's character is Lurker bait. So there is that, and well the alleway could be rushed and he can't run that fast. Any number of ways. Get creative.
