Werewolf

I actually mentioned it to a classmate a few weeks ago and she was like "YOU HAVE AN ACCOUNT THERE TOO??" and it was pretty cool. I wouldn't go out of my way to bring it up unless it was relevant, but I'm not like, hiding the fact that I spend a few hours a week here.

A couple of my close friends know I'm on here, one had an account when they were in high school, the other one never joined. Both think Gaia's too immature for me to keep wasting time on it and are notoriously complaining to me to find a better way to procrastinate (they're slowly winning). So, I guess that's a big, fat 'no'.

Gaia is a funny site that way, word of mouth is not as strong as in other places because I do think most people are quite hush hush about it. If the avatars are the selling point, the problem is raw cash is needed (unless you're already invested, you're unlikely to want to spend money). On the other hand, if the forums are the selling point (like they are for me), it takes some time to find the right place/group you want to post to. Also, to outsiders in my experience, they treated it as a site for teenagers (like 13-16 teenagers). Hard to convince them there's an older market when they look at the visuals and think it's a website for people 10 years younger than them.

Pretty much everyone I know is aware that this is my biggest hobby.
I have a few rl friends who have accounts, and at least two of them were pretty active for a while.. But life gets in the way.

I'm honestly not embarrassed about using Gaia. Someone will ask what I'm "playing" when I'm on my phone, and I just straight up tell them. I've got no qualms with explaining what Gaia is, either.

No shame. I'm not out to impress a god damn soul.

Dapper Noob

I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who hasn't been on here before.

Every once in a while nostalgia hits and I'll wander back and ask anybody who is into anime if they remember the site to go down memory lane with me.
Might start back up with some friends for a bit but things have changed far too much over the past few years - and for the worse.

This community just wasn't what it was and the economy is beyond trashed.
The charm is in the nostalgia now not the site's content. Therefore it's hard to want to "recruit" somebody.

lol NO WAY I have my power level hidden irl lol The only time I allow myself the reveal is in an anime con where I'm 110% sure no one would recognize me

And even then I keep Gaia hidden surprised I just feel people are gonna judge me for my opinions

I've told some people about it before, but they were mostly interested in the games (especially zOMG!) and not the forums. I don't think most of my close friends would like it here especially if they find out you'd need to spend real money to get really good items.

Dedicated Treasure-Seeker

Is it porno and noob infested? I never really noticed. It entirely depends on where you hang out here. I've been a Gaian for 9 years and I've had no trouble avoiding all that.
I would tell some people if I thought they might be interested, particularly if they were the type that might enjoy virtual dressing up. I wouldn't recommend certain areas of the site, which are painfully juvenile, rather than pleasantly juvenile xd
I think Gaia is an acquired taste, you need to give it some time to get the best from it. I have no problem telling anyone I use it, I don't care what they think, I enjoy it and that's that.

Dedicated Fatcat

I consider Gaia as I consider Doctor Who or World of Warcraft.

It is one of those things in which it's most fulfilling when you begin nearest to the beginning, when you've let it grow on you over years and dedication. You've watched Gaia change into what it is now, even if you don't think it's in its prime anymore. I don't bother with Dr. Who or WoW because it's like jumping into a very large, complicated marriage and I think that's what Gaia can be for a few new users.

My friends and I bond over alcohol and being horrible people. Unless Gaia comes out with their own brand of whiskey I don't think I could sell it. yum_coldone

Sexy Melon

I wanted to tell a friend about it lately, as she's into anime like me and might enjoy it. But because of how hard it is to even do anything on here without spending rl money, I won't tell her about, as she's hard on money as it is.
If there was less 'you have to spend the $ to get the shiny amazing items', then I might be more inclined to tell people about it.

I remember back when I met up with a friend in high school who I know had an account, she was like 'You're still on that??' As it was a faze that group of friends obviously went through and haven't come back to sweatdrop They'd run a mile if they ever did, really.

Merry Traveler

no, this site's like a dirty little secret that I am ashamed to admit I am still here.
Although it will be great to have a rl friend to talk with, I am still not risking it out as there's hardly anything to do around here.
this isn't a good enough site to recommend to people after all the problem that still exist.
the fact it's cash centered isn't helping either.

Nope! lol I'm not ashamed of this place because it's Gaia, I'm ashamed because I probably should have moved on to more "mature" hobbies by now. sweatdrop I love my pixel doll dress up! ;__;

Modern Mecha

Back in high school, I told all my friends about this place. I even got a few of them to join.

Now, though, this site will always remain a dirty little secret. The friends I got to join either lost interest in the site or lost interest in anime all together.

I wouldn't tell any of my current friends, either. Most of them already know about this site, anyway.

I would absolutely recommend Gaia to somebody if they have an interest in forums, avatars, and manga. I'm not ashamed of being a Gaian, and I think Gaia is better now than it was a year or so ago, so I would recommend it. I'm on Gaia ALL the time, if someone sees me on my computer then I am probably on Gaia. If someone asks me, I'll tell them. I've talked to friends about it if something stuck out to me or somethin' irritated me. Gaia's just a part of my life, I'm not going to shun that.

I definitely understand that Gaia isn't for everybody though, so I tread that line carefully. I know I'm not in the majority of "who loves Gaia and loves being on Gaia," which is honestly pretty freakin' sad. Buuut, that's how it goes. I'd recruit people that have fun raising gold and chatting, etc.
