much interested wit your story, i joined last july 2014 been on and off so im still new to this.
Gather round new Gaia Online users and let Old Cre8ive-Ovadose regale you with tales of the deep underdark of 2009.
Lolcatz was taking the internet by storm. Everyone wanted to be a scene kid. There were scene goddesses and they were beautiful (and they still are). Everyone had a "crew" on their profile page with little speech bubbles saying how awesome the friends they made were. We slaved away for little items we found on tektek that cost an arm and a leg. Our angsty teenage poetry flooded the Art Arenas where people either loved or loathed you.
You could watch anime and old movies in the Cinemas, talking to people and buying your avatar snacks as you went. You could buy a house on Towns and work for hours and hours trying to find your way around. And at Halloween, you could go trick-or-treating but in the fountain resided a monstrous pumpkin monster whose name escapes me who tried to kill you (and actually could or something which would get very frustrating). And at Christmas you could help Santa Claus with stuff and he would give you cool items in return.
It was a good time, a golden age, a belle epoch. It is sad to see it has fallen with the rest of the world.
