it wasn't all that hard, at least not at the beginning. tooru had two loving parents,
and together the two of them supported him in everything he did. which, wasn't
all that difficult to do. he'd been born pretty intelligent, and he even had athleticism
that others would kill for. they had plans for him - he'd go far. go to college. become a
doctor or something. albeit tooru had something different in mind, but he let them have
their fantasies.

friends came pretty easy for the male as he was growing up. his sense of humour
somehow always managed to keep them from leaving him. sure he could be a bit of
a smart-a**, but the pro's managed to out-way the con's. or at least that's what he
tells himself. eventually it got to the point however, that he started to take his life for
granted. he took his friends for granted. his smarts. his athleticism. hell - he let everything
get to his head. it wasn't until around the age of fourteen that he realized he was different.
it had been a simple day at school, had a crush on a girl and everything. he finally got up
the nerve to ask her out (to this day he doesn't understand why he took so long, but that
is beside the point.) they hugged good-bye as a way to set the plans in stone. that's when
it happened. the transformation. was he human? no. no, he turned into a monkey. an effing
monkey. did it make sense? no. did he still have a date for next thursday? hell no. that
moment his life changed drastically.

he went home spilled the beans to is parents, and they didn't seem all too shocked. maybe
a little upset, but they seemed to know it was going to happen. like they'd been keeping
something from him for all these years. said something about how he was a cursed member
of the sohma family. that everything he'd had growing up to this day had to do with the zodiac.
he wasn'y naturally that smart and he wasn't naturally that athletic. it was all a hoax.
so what did tooru do? lashed out. stopped really pay attention in school, because it seemed
like a chore now. not only was it easy - but it just felt ... wrong in a sense. in his spare time
tooru started pulling pranks. started small like switching his parents toothpaste with soap.
or hiding his parents keys and putting them in the kitchen sink. you know - elementary stuff.
but it only started to grow. at around fifteen his parents finally shipped him off to the sohma
residence.

a few more months tooru continued showing up for school. but that was about all he really did.
pulled a few pranks on the teachers, the students, and even pulled a few fire alarms. until finally
he just snapped. towards the end of his sophomore year tooru dropped out of school.
he pretended like he was showing up, but never actually went. he'd play hooky and going out
with friends, until he found himself joining the wrong crowd - but he didn't care. this life he had
wasn't what he wanted. quickly the male started to hate the zodiac and everything associated
with it, all while joining a gang.

the spiral only continued to move downward as the years went on. tooru has two sides.
there's the gang side where he's harsh, and as harsh and can be. not afraid to stab someone
if they look at him cross-eyed. not afraid to show them that it's his terf and he'll defend it with
his life. he's been known to steal, and gamble also. and then there's the side that he only
shows while he's at home. his abundance of never ending jokes, the small harmless pranks
that he does just to get a rise out of people. his tough-guy demeanor still seeps through
though. tooru's lost - no matter how many times he claims he isn't. claims that this is
the life he wants. when in reality, he desperately wishes for time to rewind itself. where
he thought that everything he had was luck - not some curse. does he let anyone know
this though? no. it's all locked up under lock and key, and it's there to stay. the gang is his
home, and the sohma residence is just the place he falls asleep at.
