█ █ █THE FIRE CHIEF OFFICER
applicants... Justified Grudges

Really good job! Seriously, amazing. Your application read smoothly and I got a great blend of personality and history. I was finding myself pretty jealous of your writing skill since I did not have nearly as smooth of a blend in my application. Makes me wanna go back and rework mine. Haha. Anyways, you're 100% accepted. There are a few small things you need to edit and I cannot think of any general things for you to consider. The character should fit in seamlessly.

Notice. Anything bolded needs to be reworded. Anything striked needs to be deleted. Anything colored red is an edit of some kind that I made.

Justified Grudges

Kazashi's early life was not so different from the average civilian living in the Fire Nation. He was educated and conditioned to give his loyalty to his country and his honor to its cause. Despite this, Kazashi remained aimless with no motivations or dreams. Apathy plagued him. Following in the footsteps of his optimistic, engineering, parents only seemed more trouble than it was worth, so he joined the military instead, thinking that it'd be easier to have others tell him what to do with his life. (run-on) For a while, that was true. Kazashi quickly adapted to the life of a solider and assembled into the routine of deployment once his training was finished. His obedience seldom made him anything special but his new found curiosity did. His first deployment to the Earth Kingdom gave him quite the culture shock, but the culture was interesting to him. Eventually, Kazashi saw those of the Earth kingdom as a people who only needed to be properly lead rather than inferior. He observed their culture rather than participate in its erasure. Learning to walk a fine line between being merciful to Earth kingdom citizens while ensuring the success of the Fire Nation colonies, Kazashi became a master of compromise and balance. Proving to be both a good leader and a good follower, Kazashi slowly climbed up the ranks and was stationed in Jilin Ma. There was no urgency or gloating; he was just doing his job. Becoming a chief officer opened many doors and Kazashi was soon mingling with those with an enormous amount of power.

As an enforcer of order, Kazashi has come to believe that violence will not achieve that order, which greatly contrasts with the Fire Nation Army's practices. This doesn't make him some humanitarian anti-war revolutionary; he just believes that there are smarter, less cumbersome ways to do things. Because of this, Kazashi picked up a habit of finding out the objectives of his superiors and acting them out in a way that requires less bloodshed. To Kazashi, this does not count as disobeying anyone, but rather as doing the work for them. For example, rather than executing prisoners to establish dominance, Kazashi would put them to work as servants or builders for Fire Nation artillery. Still, being ahead of everyone when it comes to plans has lead to some paranoia on his part. Light footsteps and fluid movements allow him to know more than he really should, but Kazashi is still weary of the consequences of being caught snooping. While Kazashi desires to keep order among people, he still does not trust them and will rarely give special treatment to anyone, neither poor nor noble. His eyes are always watching, observing, for information that he can use in the future, as well as just waiting for something bad to happen. To most, and like any chief officer should be, Kazashi seems composed but he is actually quite tense. Again, this is due to his fear of of trouble finding him in more ways than one; standing too close to him will even earn the offender a relentless stare off and touching him suddenly will be rewarded with a kick to the face.

Kazashi's bending is much like himself: controlled, elegant, skilled, but not really used to its full potential. He's very well aware of this and prefers to keep his explosive power bottled up inside. Actually, Kazashi is reluctant to result to bending when it comes to conflict and often relies on a sword or his own hands. This leads to others commonly mistaking him for a non bender and his fights to appear more evenly matched. Only when Kazashi is sure that he can't reach a target's pressure point to incapacitate them is when he will used his fire against them. As a believer of upholding honor, Kazashi won't go out of his way to dishonor an opponent and will intervene if he witnesses unnecessary humiliation.

Kazashi has yet to fully realize that he values the lives of all people, and despite not trusting them, he enjoys learning about them. His occupation has finally given him a purpose that he has pride working towards, so while he's not as much aimless as before, he still struggles with discovering with what he wants and should do with the authority that said occupation has given him.

(“shi lin” is chinese for “petrified forest” - the direct translation is “stone forest.” her family name “jin” means “gold.”)

Shi Lin is the oldest of four daughters, from a family which, while not noble, had the military prestige and wealth comparable to minor nobility. Cool, calm, and calculating, she is a relatively soft-spoken but eloquent woman. From a young age, Shi Lin was trained in combat earthbending, and later in military strategy. Her strict, no-nonsense front was developed from constant stress of being a woman involved so heavily in the military field. A high-class woman in the Earth Kingdom was expected to embrace the domestic life and be wed to a high-class man. Shi Lin had no interest in succumbing herself to that lifestyle.

This does not mean she didn’t adapt the social cues and style of the wealthy. She may be a fighter, but she holds high respect for fine dress and food. She dresses practically, yet fanciful. Fine silks, rich color, and ornate decoration catches her eye; her posture is also straight and fluid as a well-trained lady. Combined with her military upbringing, she is a very intimidating woman who silently demands the best of respect.

Her most notable physical trait, besides her relatively small size, is her prosthetic leg. Made of earthy-brown granite, her prosthetic substitutes the foot and lower shin of her left leg. With years of rehabilitation and practice, she can use her earthbending subconsciously to bend her prosthetic as naturally as walking. Despite this, however, her disability proves to be a handicap in her fighting. She possesses grace under pressure; however, under extreme stress or panic, her bending becomes messy and destructive. Her prosthetic also prevents agility and quick, easy movement, which called for the development of a distance-based style of fighting. If any enemies were to get close to her, she’ll use everything in her power to drive them away.

Her journey to bodyguard was long and riddled with despair. Her father was a military general stationed in Du Diao, a decently-sized city nestled in the mountains south of the Si Wong desert. Disappointed that he had no sons which to pass his trade on to, he took it as duty to train his four daughters in combat earthbending. As Shi Lin grew older, she was taken in as the General’s protege. Her training went beyond combat; she oversaw their father’s direction of the military defense, analyzed the intelligence that came into their base of operation, and studied extensively the status of the Fire Nation expansion throughout the Earth Kingdom. By the age of seventeen, she proved herself as a capable military woman who was well respected by both her father and those under his command.

However, a violent siege by the Fire Nation extinguished her promising career. Her left leg was severely injured and required amputation. Their military, which managed to drive away the invading army, suffered heavy casualties. Her father became neurotic, her sisters apathetic, and her mother overbearing and controlling. She only ever confided in the city’s healer, who assisted her rehabilitation and development of her stone leg prototype. Even after her mother gifted her a Foo Badger as a companion animal, Shi Lin, looking for escape from the high stress and encroaching anxiety, ran away. Soon after her disappearance, the city was sieged again, this time falling to the Fire Nation. Returning to Du Diao was suicide, and only with the approaching threat of the Fire Nation army did she flee.

It took her several years, but she finally found safety in Jilin Ma, a port city still untouched by the Fire Nation. Using her family name as influence, she found comfort in joining the local military, even if her gender and disability left her in a secretarial-based job. She accompanied the higher ranking officials in dinners with the ruling family, where she caught the attention of the patriarch and was offered the position of the family’s personal bodyguard. She accepted without hesitation.

Seven years later, she found herself in a repeat of her younger years. The Fire Nation had reached the walls of Jilin Ma, and there was little hope of fighting them away. She was left with the care of the youngest of the Noble family, who she holds close and protects as fiercely as a mother. She trains the young girl in earthbending, sharing the techniques which she herself was taught from her father, in hopes that if the two were to be separated, the girl could get herself out of any trouble.

Hnnnnggggg... your application was beautiful. I wish our characters would interact more so I can love on your writing and design. Only a few edits need to be made that are simple grammatical things. The fact they have such a background really does make them capable of understanding people, but I like they don't immediately come off as the, 'empathetic type'. So, that said, make these few edits and you're good and accepted!

Fire bender? Earth bender? Water bender? Non-bender? What is Junkai - who is Junkai? The eternal question burning in everyone's mind... Who is the rebel right hand?

Few know anything more about him than "the rebel right hand" - they know nothing of his heritage, his family, or who he truly is. He is like the ebb and flow of the tides, coming and going, and always slipping between one's fingers without a trace. But for even how subtle he is, those associated with him have dictated several distinctive traits about Junkai: his cold serene logic, the enduring loyalty to the Rebel Leader, and his persistent desire for vengeance exacted on the people who started it all - the Fire Nation. Junkai himself has suffered greatly from the moment he had been conceived, all indirectly at the hand of the Fire Nation, and it is that sympathy which connects him to every single one of the rebel troops who follow under the Rebel Leader and himself. His ambition is one that is not obvious to the oblivious or casual eye; it is a deep and malignant tumor of negative emotions that is sparked by a sudden fierce glint in his eyes or a tension in his muscles, which translates into utter ruthlessness for the rebellion's opposition. What he does to them is nothing to what they have already afflicted on him. It is feared silently among those who know him that this same great desire will one day be the one to destroy him - what else does he have to identify himself with so strongly, to live for otherwise? His life is solely devoted to the Rebel Leader and their cause - a grand cause for the greater good, so that those of the future may not have to end up like Junkai. A better world, hopefully that not oppressed under the Fire Nation, is what they fight for.

However, he as a person is a secret that he wishes to keep dearly to himself and to a chosen few, and one that has been weighted on his shoulders his entire life. Junkai at his finest, is a mongrel - with a mother from the Southern Water Tribe who was brutally violated by an invading fire nation soldier of a half fire and earth ancestry, he has no true origin or family pride to claim for. He didn't even have a home to establish as his own when his mother fled to the Northern Water Tribe, heavy with child, and tried to make a living for herself and Junkai. He cannot claim himself to be from the Water Tribes, nor from the Earth Kingdom or the Fire Nation. He cannot claim the Northern Water Tribe as his home, not when they so subtly alienated him as much as anyone else did; with his pale Fire Nation skin, the heterochromia eyes of both the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom, and the basic abilities of a water bender, Junkai obviously does not fit neatly into any niche.

He himself did not know who he was, what his identity would be. He does not have the water bending abilities necessary to join the defenses of the Northern Water Tribe, as his bending is at best, rudimentary, and at worst, pathetic. It was an unsteady limbo between being a non-bender and a water-bender, but Junkai finally was able to begin solidifying himself once he met the Rebel Leader. They taught him to embrace both sides of it, to use his bending in tandem with weapons, and to enhance his skills with his bending - to bring out the best of both worlds. The Rebel Leader to him was everything he could have found in a family - while his mother was his mother, the Rebel Leader was so much more than what a single mother could do for him. They were his mentor, his friend, his companion, and Junkai might have even thought of them to be lovers at one point. Whatever their relationship is, it is personal and intense, and his devotion to them is something greatly respected and feared. Cross them and you will cross him - it might have passed into obsessive territory even...

I really like her morals. This is a very real character. Her beliefs are something you'd expect from someone experiencing this situation due to how you've tied her into the city. I look forward to her facing moral conundrums where she needs to make choices that put her towards one side or another. All the drama! You do have a tendency, and I remember this from a paper you sent me, to write run-on sentences. I made the edits but I suggest watching out for them in the future since they are your Achilles heel. You're accepted, I just need these edits made.

Meifeng was born to an impoverished family in the city of Jilin Ma. Her father's weapons and armor business hardly drew in any money due to the variability of the Earth Bender's abilities, and her mother did tailoring on the side just to keep food on the table. Meifeng made it her goal in life to rise above the poverty and stay there. One way or another, their less-than-ideal lifestyle weighed heavily on Meifeng's personality and attitude toward life; pushing her to become more of a realist and a pessimist, even at an early age. She never believed in fairy tales or prince charming, choosing instead to ignore such fanciful things and the other children who believed in them. in favor of endeavors like schoolwork and weapons proficiency, training often with her father to protect her for the future. As Meifeng grew, so too did her sense of logic; often choosing not right or wrong, but whatever furthers her own gains. Her reserved, mature, and cold demeanor kept her from making too many friends in the city, so she had ample time to herself and her own pursuits, developing her solidarity and independence even further.

Once the fire noble took over the city, both of her parent's professions came into demand. The fire nation soldiers were always looking for new armor and weapons, and few seamstresses within the city were willing to create clothing for their new occupants. As such, her parents, who were willing to do anything to improve their living conditions, soon went from complete poverty to moderate wealth. While their competition was imprisoned or dredged to the depths of society for going against the orders of their new noble, they moved into one of the larger estates on the city, and began seeing their customers in and outside the home. Meifeng herself was often sent to deliver products to the various fire nation encampments and homes, seeing first hand the people considered their "enemies". Although they were soldiers, many of the men and women were just like those of the Earth nation; wanting only to better the circumstances for their people and nation. Some were cruel, but others weren't, and Meifeng couldn't bring herself to refer to these people as "evil", as many of the citizens of Jilin Ma did behind their backs.

As such, Meifeng finds it hard to truly ally herself with her cousin, the rebel leader, and their accomplices. She knows that they're fighting for the people of the city, but with nothing but good things coming out of the fire noble's position for her own family, Meifeng has no desire to see the earth noble reinstated. Her parents have become avid supporters of the fire nation themselves, and she's found herself walking a very thin line between supporting one side or the other in order to appease both sides. She refuses to take a side despite goading from both parties, choosing to follow her own sense of justice and reason between them. Her logical skills, and often biting words, keep others from pushing her too far; though also leaves most at an emotional distance from her. She'll (verbally) stand up to any people whom oppose her, using common sense and rationality, though personally, Meifeng isn't a fan of violence, even when necessary.

[[Kesuk means Water;Sky in Inuit, but it didn't sound right so i added an "ie" to the end]]

Kesukie was raised by her father, the Captain of her town's military force, while the only other family she has was her grandmother, who took care of her while her father was away. Kesukie's father trained her to be a powerful warrior because that was what she wanted to be. When she was of age, she enrolled into the military and made it. Through the years she was there, she rose through a couple of ranks, and was fairly respected by her peers.
One day Kesukie’s grandmother sent her to the northern water tribe because of an arranged marriage. To appease her grandmother she went up north to turn the guy down in person, and when it was all settled she returned home. When she arrived home, however, she found the village in shambles, some buildings were in ashes, and some were simply knocked over. The streets were covered in debris, ashes, and just overall wreckage.
Closer to the back of the village were some medical tents that were put up to help the injured and sick.
After walking in she talked to a nurse whom Kesukie studied with as children. She explained that a week after Kesukie left some fire nation troops showed up and destroyed half the village looking for any and all waterbenders. They took the waterbenders, and then took their military, in fear of them rebelling against the fire nation. This meant that Kesukie was the last waterbender in the village, all because she was off dealing with a stupid arranged marriage.
Kesukie's heart retched in pain, she should have been there to help fight them off. Then the nurse told her that her grandmother was also attacked by the fire nation, and that she was in critical condition, and probably won't have much longer to live. Kesukie instantly ran to her grandmother.
Her grandmother told her she needed to leave the village in case the fire nation came back, and that the rest of them would be safe as long as Kesukie wasn't there. Knowing this was true tore at Kesukie's heart even more, but she didn't want to leave her dying grandmother here, so after arguing with her grandmother, she agreed to let Kesukie stay a bit longer before she had to go.
Her grandmother lived another two days before passing away, and then Kesukie left the village as promised. She traveled around the world, of course avoiding the fire nation, but she traveled around, meeting all different kinds of people until she came across a decent sized town. Disguised as an Earth nation citizen she traveled around the town, finding lots of troubles involving the Fire Nation setting up camp in their palace and what not. While exploring the town she ended coming across something interesting, the first rebels she had seen since herself. After going through trials to be sure she wasn't a fire nation spy they allowed her to be a part of their rebel group. Even though she knows she can't take town the fire nation she hopes she can at least help these rebels take back their town, and then one day find her father, whom she hopes is still alive somewhere.

Kesukie has a split personality. Two different personalities where one she’s a happy optimistic person who can easily block anything bad like it never happened, and her other where she’s a serious person who can easily loose her temper, and usually does.
Kesukie’s waterbending is not like a normal waterbender. Usually harsh, and using Ice more than water in her attacks. When she’s calm, however, she uses more waterbending, and it’s why she’s more dangerous when she’s serious, and calm.

█ █ █THE FIRE NOBLE'S ELDEST
applicants... Kaiju Roy

This is a good character, I do hope their perfectionist nature and their status does cause a bit of trouble in the RP. She is so wonderfully built up for the issue of her linage to tear her down. Thank you for that. As for the writing, just a few edits. Some could be my style, but a few are just sentences that need to be reformed to read better.

Notice. Anything bolded needs to be reworded. Anything striked needs to be deleted. Anything colored red is an edit of some kind that I made.

Kaiju Roy
Zaya was everything a nobleman could want in a daughter. She was beautiful, gracefully so, from her dark, serene eyes down to the poised walk of her light footsteps. Even more, she was a brilliantly intelligent and sharp perfectionist, attentive to details and subtlety. Her reputation preceded her: a loyal, young, perceptive woman of inner harmony, something surely her noble father would be proud of.

If willing to ignore the fact that Zaya was not his true daughter, of course.

Zaya's real father wasn't a nobleman, but a wandering water bender her mother had not only slept with, but bore the child of; a terrible taboo in the Fire Nation. Seeking a cover up, Zaya's mother blamed the child on a Fire Nation nobleman, convincing him to marry her before she gave birth to Zaya. The cover up worked, and Zaya was born into Fire Nation nobility. The cover up was not without its risks; at a young age, Zaya began the first inklings of water bending that she inherited from her father, drawing up rainwater from puddles and pulling sake from her mother's cup. Her mother suppressed and punished Zaya for these skills. If any discovery were to be found, Zaya and her mother would, at best, be exiled. At worst, the two could be killed. Zaya's mother gave birth again, who she also claimed was the Fire Nation nobleman's child. Later, her mother would use both Zaya and her brother's false heritages alongside her father's impotence to bargain and, eventually, leave.

Memories of early water bending faded from Zaya's mind as she grew up. and Zaya believed she was a true noble daughter of the great Fire Nation. Built upon the belief of her blood lineage, Zaya saw herself in the strict firelight of her nation as a woman whose duties to her country were of absolute importance over even her own life. She saw herself as someone who must use her abilities to bring order to an unruly, filthy, world; a world whose cure could only be administered through the red hotness of the flame. Her opportunities to serve her nation had, at first, been limited. Her father, though he was noble, was not only the youngest but weakest of three children. He had little political presence, and no involvement in the military. Being female and unable to fire bend, Zaya was limited from the Fire Nation's army, unable to command the spread of her nation's flames. And, to her frustration, her presence at meetings was limited to tea rooms, smiling politely as if she were furniture, and sitting silently as the men discussed on.

After her mother left her father, Zaya felt a strong sense of disappointment, both towards her position in life and the position of her father. After the years passed, she harbored anger towards her father, and found herself impatient with him. Yes, he was a scholar, contributing to the knowledge of the nation. But his research did not bear great fruits for the nation's army, and otherwise Zaya saw his contributions as minor. If only she had been another nobleman's daughter, of greater military strength or political power, Zaya could do more for her nation. Then came news of the family's duties to keep order in the newly conquered Jilin Ma. Zaya not only offered to come faithfully with her father to Jilin Ma, but to provide council. Of course, she couldn't command the guards, nor would she preside over the people as her noble father would. But, she promised, she would keep her eyes and ears open for any etchings of dissent when his might be closed. She would stand by his side during meetings and provide political presence and pressure, and she would be her father's most loyal councilor, harboring secrets and ensuring that all loose ends would be tied and firmly knotted. She would be his right hand of guidance, his fist when his strength faltered, and the stranglehold on those who opposed him.

Zaya, though calm, loyal, and rarely prone to emotional bursts, is an extreme perfectionist, holding high standards for herself as well as others, whether they are above or beneath her rank. A job poorly done is a job not acceptable at all, no matter the condition. She is headstrong, and often believes herself a better decision maker than those around her, despite her lack of experience. Her faith in her nation is blind, even when questioning her own superiors. Though her council is thoughtful, she is quick to question and insult the abilities of others, placing those around her under immense social pressure, especially during stressful times. Zaya swore to keep no secrets from her father upon departing to Jilin Ma, promising to reveal everything she discovers to him, but her father still keeps her true heritage a secret. He would never tell Zaya of her real father, nor would he let Zaya know that she was born a water bender. She places great value in her noble birthright, justifying all she does, both good and bad, in the perspective of her nation. However, her noble birthright is false, and though her beliefs are firm, they stand on fragile ice. If the truth were to reach her, her understanding of her own self would shatter.

She was picture perfect; everything to look for in a wife, docile and quite. In all honesty, Tenka's father found nothing wrong with the girl, he even liked her a bit. He just wanted to spite his parents for always favoring his younger brother. He left in a rage, taking family heirlooms to pawn off when he needed money.

For a few years, he trekked across the Earth Kingdom but found no place he felt happy with. However, when he came to port town, he decided, spur of the moment, to travel outside the Earth Kingdom. To find a new place, as far away as he could. That was how he ended up in the Northern Water Tribe. While he wasn't well liked at first, nor now even, he managed to find a niche and a young woman to marry. Since his Earthbending was almost useless, he opted to open an herbal medicine shop with his wife. It was only a few months later that his wife became pregnant with Tenka. Her birth was the talk of the town. Would she be an Earthbender? It was bad enough to have her father here.

Luckily, it did not come to that, because while her appearance is more reminiscent of Earth Kingdom people, she inherited her mother's Waterbending. But that was also where new problems started. Tenka was more like her father than anyone wanted. She wanted nothing to do with the Northern Water Tribe and how it tried to dictate her future. For a few year painful years, Tenka learned from the healers (mostly her mother and grandmother, though, because she was mouthy and difficult to handle). When she was fifteen, a year before she'd be introduced to her fiancee, Tenka ran away. Just like her father did. There were a few reasons for this: one, Tenka lived of the rumblings about the Earth Kingdom from her father; two, she had no interest in men and knew well enough that would not go over well. Not with how infamous she had become among the benders for breaking the rules one too many times, nor with her family being from outside the Water Tribe. From the start, Tenka had a feeling she would not last long in there, why prolong the inevitable. She at least spared her future fiancee the embarrassment of having a runaway bride. That was already an issue once and Tenka was sure they didn't want a repeat.

From here Tenka spent her years doing a variety of things. Like her father, she took a few family heirlooms to keep her afloat when she needed it. She learned to fight with her water bending by watching other vendors. Her style is a mix of all types, as she could only watch, especially in the Northern Water Tribe. It was from countless, sleepless nights that Tenka learned blood bending.

Her first victim was a boar-q-pine that attacked her while she was training under the full moon. At first, Tenka was wary of what happened, but on each new full moon she attempted it again and again. Eventually, she began to master it. Still, she can only use it during the full moon, but in the midst of Jilin Ma, Tenka is looking for a way to use it outside of the full moon.

Tanka refused to be idle and learned many things, from tea ceremonies to war tactics, admittedly she doesn't have a grasp on stealth tactics. Nothing was off limits to her. If someone tried to, Tenka was usually able to overwhelm with her own strength and presence. She took what she wanted, when she wanted and wouldn't give up until she could have it.

How Tenka arrived in Jilin Ma, her father's hometown, was by pure chance. While she was lost in the Swamp, and running into the water benders that made their home there, Tenka was given a vision, that lead her to Jilin Ma. Though not the most spiritual, she grew up being forced to be close to them.

When she got to Jilin Ma nothing interesting was going on. The Fire nobles had yet to arrive, but she did meet her paternal grandfather. Though he had yet to forgive his son, he was more than happy to welcome Tenka into his life. He sent her to a family friend from work, thinking she was staying in Jilin Ma. Though not her original plan, she has chosen to remain in the city. She manages and oversees one of the main port yards.

While Tenka has no personal vendetta with the Fire Nation, she's not too pleased with their actions. Invading Jilin Ma could have been the worst choice, because while she cares not for the war she doesn't take well to having an oppressive power operate near her. Watching the livelihood of Jilin Ma's citizens be lost because of them grates her tolerance. She won't sit idle while they attempt to control the lives of others. Not that she was happy with the Earth Noble before them.

Years before Tenka was born, his father had a falling out with his brother and parents. They wanted him to marry a noble woman, a pretty young thing. he was picture perfect; everything to look for in a wife, docile and quite. In all honesty, Tenka's father found nothing wrong with the girl, he even liked his a bit. He just wanted to spite his parents for always favouring his younger brother. He left in a rage, taking family heirlooms to pawn off when he needed money.

For a few years, he trekked across the Earth Kingdom but found no place he felt happy with. However, the way the Northern Water Tribe only allowed men to learn to fight did sit right with him. He grew up off his father's ramblings about the Earth Kingdom and how Tenka's grandmother was a great Earthbender who taught child how to bend and fight. Because of this, Tenka has become infamous amoung his teachers and the rest of the tribe. He always spoke out against them, questioning their methods, and being a disruption to classes. He often went to girl's classes to learn healing, just to spite his masters. It was only made worse since his father wasn't from the Water Tribe, they already didn't favour them. So, when he was fifteen, a year before he'd be introduced to his fiancee, Tenka ran away. Just like his father did. Partly because of the aforementioned, but also because he had no interest in women, which he knew would not go over well. I understand you really want this role, and I appreciate that you've made edits, however, there are still a lot of problems. There are many grammatically errors, and many errors in her history which break canon. I hope you understand, but I do not think you will be able to keep up with the demands of this roleplay. There is no kinder way I can say this, that I can think of. I've seen a few other Avatar RPs around that I think may be a better fit. ):

Life was simple for Teruko before she first accidentally spewed flames from her nostrils. Her days were filled with playing war with her earthbending brother and the neighboring kids. Never mind how young she was, firebenders were the enemy. That's what she became in the eyes of many. Parents wouldn't let her play with their kids anymore, and the kids she did still get to play with always made her play the role of the Fire Lord as they threw rocks at her. Very few understood the complexity of her parents' marriage that resulted in her. Being a close adviser, and personal friend, of Jilin Ma's king, Teruko's father requested the king's help. The king agreed, and pulled some favors to have Teruko sent away to train under the Kyoshi Warriors under the condition that when Teruko's training was complete she would return to Jilin Ma as a personal guard to the King. Teruko's father accepted the condition and sent her off.

At first, like any child would be, Teruko felt like she was the one being punished. It was only near the end of her training that she realized just how childish she had been when she first left and how much she would have regretted the things she had last said to her family if she died in one of battles she had fought in. You see, war changes people. Her training wasn't just drills and sparing. She tracked Fire Nation patrols, watched the horrors everyone had learned to associate with firebenders, and killed them as she had been taught. She learned to trust her fellow warriors and accept them for their faults and strengths in order to work as a single cohesive unit, as they did with her. Most importantly, though, she learned that nothing was a black and white as it often appeared. She understood why people had been afraid of her fire when she was younger, and why others, including herself, should not have been so quick to pass judgement on others.

Although she was a fully seasoned Kyoshi Warrior at the end of her training, war had left a bad taste in her mouth. Her return to Jilin Ma to take the role of a glorified bodyguard at the king's palace was a welcome change. Disaster struck just as Teruko was getting comfortable when the Fire Nation invaded in the dead of the night, slaying her family, the King, and the entire noble family with the exception of his only child. A few other royal guards perished to give Teruko and the child a chance to escape. Unable to flee the city, though, Teruko and the heir went into hiding. When it came out that some people were resiting the Fire Nation's occupation, Teruko lept at the chance to keep the heir in allied company and joined the rebels.

█ █ █THE REBEL BODYGUARD
applicants... Lovely Gardenias + ithinkcat

Alright, I had to go back. We had someone apply right while I was editing. Technically, that means it's okay. This, however, did not change my choice. When I looked over your application, ithinkcat, I found that my concerns were with the character design. The Kyoshi Warriors do not train outsiders. They also did not get involved in the war till Aang arrived, which this RP takes place prior to that. Overall, I didn't get a strong sense of the character like I did with Lovely's application. Both of you had great writing, but once again, I'm siding on character design here. Having a bodyguard with a prosthetic leg is just too tempting.

I'm sorry ithinkcat, but Lovely Gardenias wins this. I just need Lovely to edit the application then tell me when it's edited so I can add them to our list.

Notice. Anything bolded needs to be reworded. Anything striked needs to be deleted. Anything colored red is an edit of some kind that I made.

She dresses practically, but is very concerned about her image. Fine silks, rich color, and intricate pattern catches her eye, and her posture is as straight and fluid as a well-trained lady. Combined with her no-nonsense military upbringing, she is a very intimidating woman who silently demands the best of respect.

By the age of seventeen, she proved herself as a capable military woman; she was well respected by both her father and those under his command. and she was under way to receiving a significant officer position despite her young age.

Even after her mother gifted her a Foo Badger as a companion animal, Shi Lin, looking for escape from the high stress and encroaching anxiety, ran away with her new companion by her side.

Ushi grew up in Jilin Ma. Her father and mother owned a shop of tradable goods on the south side of downtown. He was a tradesman by choice, with a love of collecting items from around the world. Food was their biggest trade item, but her father also had a knack for picking up oddities to be sold as well. Ushi herself helped with tending the store, loading and unloading the ships. Even as a female she was not given any special treatment from her father. He always had a motto about hard work reaping high reward.

Years would pass like this and at the age of ten Ushi manifested her affiliation for the earth. Her father congratulated her and told her that it was because of her hard work that she was gifted with the ability to bend. Though secretly, he himself had been one kept hidden only by his desire to live a simple life. This incident however formed Ushi's mentality for most of her life.

The foundation of her upbringing allotted her to become a strong-willed young woman with a thirst for adventure. There had been several occasions where Ushi had caused problems with men from the ships. Sometimes it was over gambling dues, a habit she had picked up from the sailors. Other times it was from the jests of the men who would tell her that a woman had no place in the trading business. To which they would normally be greeted with a rock to the face. She had been the cause of street brawls on more than one occasion and the older she got the more it seemed to happen.

Her mother asked her one day if she ever considered getting married, and if she thought the woman she was now would be found appealing to men. A rugged woman with little finesse was hardly eye candy for anyone worth-while. Ushi, had given thought to her mother's words asked her the sudden interest in her future. Her mother smiled and told her that the only way they could hand down the company was if she were to marry a capable man. Needless to say, she didn't like the idea and denied any sort of marriage for many years despite the suitors.

Eventually, when her father fell sick she was left with no option. The company could not have a woman head figure, and thus she had to strike a deal: Ushi would take care of the people aspect while her husband took care of the numbers. It was a fairytale ending, and she even grew to love him.

Happy times turned dark when the fire nation had come to occupy Jilin Ma. Their business tanked within the first year of occupation putting her family in duress and ultimately causing the death of Ushi's mother. Ushi and her husband, however, kept hopeful and eventually shut down the trading business to open up a pub for the people. Hard times weren't so hard when they were drunk. The brew was made within the shops walls so they did not have to rely on outside resources. It also provided a place for those who did not support the fire-nation take over. An opinion Ushi's husband had no problem speaking freely about. This obviously, didn't sit well with the nobles.

Ushi's husband was eventually apprehended for conspiracy against the fire-nation, and even over the screams of protest Ushi was once again forced to close down her business.
In two years, Ushi had lost everything to the fire nation, and with no news as to her husband's well being or whereabouts she decided it was time to fight back. If the fire nation was going to destroy her home she would return the favor. She became stubbornly determined to remove the fire-nation from her beloved soil and find out where her husband was.

Months passed and Ushi threw herself into reopening the pub. With her earth bending ability she had constructed a room below that doubled as a brewery and a hideaway. And as the saying goes; if you build it they will come. A rebel force slowly started to gather under her guide; mostly people who had lost just as much as she had or were tired of the nobles. To Ushi, whomever wished to join their cause was welcome with discretion. Insubordination would not be tolerated, and any act of treason would be dealt with accordingly. Turning the once fairytale princess into a dark queen bent on revenge against a nation.

Even with his Water Tribesman origin, Qaletaka has always called Jilin Ma home. His father was a non-bending warrior who served in the less than impressive militia of the Southern Water Tribe. A cowardly man, who upon his enlistment had delusions of grandeur and becoming a hero for his people. He soon would face the realities of war and deserted his platoon after being decimated by Fire Nation forces. Using the subsequent chaos to escape in the dead of night. His travels leading him to Jilin Ma. Here he found his heart seized by a beautiful and fiery peasant woman. It wasn't long after when Qaletaka would inhale his first breath of life.

Even as a boy, Qaletaka was always an inspiration to those around him. Even if he often fell short of whatever goal he may have had for himself, his determination would never falter. He would never allow the premise of failure to overtake him. He was a fighter through and through. Steadfast in his beliefs and his resolve never staggering even when against the greatest of dangers. Even expecting others around him to aspire to be the same. His father had been a source of motivation for him. He was a coward, so frustrated with his own insecurities and inability to circumvent the problems of war-time living he'd take out his frustrations on wife and son. He was a perfect example of what not to be. When Qaletaka learned of his fathers desertion from his mother he even began to curse him.

As a youth, he was a delinquent, taking to the streets when his fathers alcohol induced assaults became too much to handle. For himself and the other lawbreakers he fraternized with trouble seemed unavoidable. His father was fine with this, until his son being jailed led to his wife pooling together the bulk of their savings to deliver her son from imprisonment. Qaletaka found himself under custody after assaulting three teens who meant to cripple him. Had his waterbending not awakened, he would have been the one laying a bloody heap on the ground. At any rate, when his father learned of this his opposition to his wifes actions became apparent. They were barely scraping by in this game called life, they hadn't received a good hand yet. In his eyes Qaletaka was among the worst, and they didn't have the resources needed to waste them on a thug going nowhere in life.

His words that night had struck a cord. If he was going nowhere, where was his father leading his son and wife? More often than not it was to bed when hushing them after having beaten one of the two. He assumed his son would amount to nothing. That he would be even less of a man then himself. Outraged and armed with his newly discovered ability the young boy lashed out. In the end all that would come from it was Qaletaka set out into the streets. A concussed mother carried a top his back, refusing to leave her behind. She had a brother in the city, and that is where they would end up. His uncle and his family weren't doing much better in the game his father called life. He was in the business of selling weaponry and armor, a business that was doing just well enough to secure them this meager existence. His wife had given birth to a daughter not many years prior and times were tough, but not tough enough to turn away family.

However, he was fully aware of Qaletaka's less than savory activities and refused to provide him asylum if he continued his ways. Thus he soon found himself employed in his uncles shop. Teaching him the value of hard work and providing an example of how a real man and father should conduct himself. It'd be three years later, Qaletaka having tuned sixteen, that he would opt for military enlistment. Life would undoubtedly be tough, but there he'd always be provided a meal. Something his adopted family found increasingly harder to do. He'd serve his kingdom for a decade. It was here his paltry waterbending would evolve into something impressive. He always had potential, but no teacher. He'd use the earth and fire benders he fought with and against to develop a style all his own. His knack for leadership became evident and he steadily advanced through the ranks, until he received an injury that would send him back home. In the army he found purpose, he wanted to serve his people. He'd saved quite a bit during his tours and would use the money to construct a homeless shelter. With orphans, ex-military, and other disenfranchised people roaming its halls. They became his source of inspiration, the seeds of rebellion had been planted.

tab The daughter of war was born into the peaceful buzz of the Foggy Swamp Tribe to two insignificant parents. They named her Odahingum for the rippling water of rebirth in the swamp. Life in the Swamp was simple but busy. There was plenty to be done: catching possum chickens and giant flies for dinner, packing up and moving camp, learning to waterbend. But from the time people could recognize her personality, they knew something was wrong, something was different about this girl named after peace.

tab She had a way of terrorizing the people of her tribe. She understood the malleable nature of water and would use her bending to stir up trouble amongst the children, or turn their own bending against them. She used the connection with the banyan trees to learn the locations of her enemies and she created traps designed to target the fear instinct in their minds but leave no physical damage. The induced trauma could be blamed on the infamous swamp visions, and never traced back to her. Nevertheless, her own people grew wary of her. Children began calling her Ziracuni, meaning "water monster". The name stuck fast and true. The girl did not mind. She enjoyed the fear and terror the name inspired, adding to her image.

tab The pleasures of psychological terrorism within her tribe began to get tiresome after a while. They seemed childish and boring. Ziracuni began to wonder about what lived outside of the Swamp. She would spend hours every day climbing to the top of various banyan grove trees, trying in vain to reach out to the world. Her curiosity overruled the security that lay within the tightly knit tribe of people she could manipulate so well. One day, without a word to anyone, Ziracuni and her skiff disappeared from the tribe, never to be seen again.

tab At the first town she encountered, Ziracuni hid out in the nearby forest and spent days watching the locals. From her years in the Swamp, she had become a powerful observer. She was able to glean information from every exchange and interaction. She learned that the outside world was very out of touch with the interconnectedness of the spiritual world, but existed within an intricately complex social system. She learned of the Fire Nation and their devastating genocide of the air nomads (whoever they were), and the invasion of the earth kingdom.

tab Intrigued by their power, Ziracuni traveled further inland, determined to find a troupe of these firebenders. Along the way, she could not help but disrupt the peaceful lives of those villages she encountered. Her name became a whisper, a rumor of the water monster, traveling ahead of her and inciting fear amongst the citizens of the local areas. She drew the identity around her like a cloak, adopting a look to match. None who saw the masked, marked face could mistake who she was. Eventually, she believed in her mask herself. She believed she was invincible as a god, and worthy of her reputation, forgetting that the roots of her persona came from the swamp.

tab When she finally encountered the firebenders, the fear and destruction they inflicted on the earth nation pleased her. She offered her services to them, willing to do many different odd jobs to manipulate the people into obedience. For years she intimidated, terrorized, and killed key people for the sake of her employers. She was never ignorant of the corruption and stupidity of the commanders above her, but serving them served her purpose as they moved further north towards the East Lake.

tab It was then that rumors of an uprising in a local town began to stir amongst the foot soldiers. Although it was not where her company was going, Ziracuni knew it was time to part ways. The progression of the Fire Nation’s army was far too easy. Any opposition they came upon was feeble. Without a word, she slipped away from the army. Her allegiance towards the Fire Nation was feeble. She served them only because they offered her power. But power was an old weapon she was used to. Ziracuni wanted a challenge. She wanted to fight alongside intelligent people who had a purpose. She wanted to go up against an undefeated enemy – and win.

█ █ █THE REBEL LEADER
applicants... a redtail + Naikii + Tankie Sakoya

Holy moly, we had a lot of competition for this role! I am really pleased, as I was worried no one would take to such an important role. Anyways, as some of you might have seen in the OOC, I’m under the weather today. Staying in front of the computer is bound to make my headache worse, so I’m sorry, but I will only be editing the winning application. If you would like the edits, feel free to PM me and I’ll do them tomorrow. Now to get down to business.

Competition was fierce man. You are all excellent writers and, ******** man, the characters were all great too. As a result this ultimately is a personal preference of what I perceive to make leadership quality. We’re going to start with why I didn’t pick some of these roles.

a retail, I’m really sorry. I know you put a lot of effort into this application. What I had a hard time with was how they didn’t seem like the type of person to be attached to a cause. It also worked against them that they weren’t very attached to the city itself. While your face claims were my favorite of the batch, I’m unable to go with Tenka. They didn’t come off as a leader to me.

Tankie Sakoya, you really did an excellent job of designing a strong role. Plus, I will admit, you had the best written of the applications. Everything about them seems powerful and capable of spearheading a revolution. My only reservation may simply be that the biography dealt heavily with a backstory that didn’t connect him to Jilin Ma. This only becomes an issue when considering the person I accepted. What I do see however, is a perfect role for the ex-military if you were willing to tweek them.

Congratulations Naikii! I appreciated how knitted into the community Ushi is. Having a revolution leader rise from the laboring class of the city is exactly what I was looking for. Not only will she know the layout of the city, but she will have the emotional bond to the location. Two aspects I found important for someone in this role. It opens up a lot when it comes to connecting her to the rest of the positions in the role-play. Being part of a pub also allows for hearing rumors, drunk soldiers, and much more. You’ve crafted and excellent Leader. Bellow, I made edits that I’d like to see corrected. Shoot me a PM when you’re done.

Years would pass like this and at the age of ten did Ushi manifested her affiliation for the earth.

She had been the cause of street brawls on more than one occasion. Ushi would deny all allegations, of course, and as a local received no punishment for her actions. The older she got the more it seemed to happen.

In two years, Ushi had lost everything to the fire nation, and with no news as to her husband's wellbeing or whereabouts, she had decided it was time to fight back.
