So its been a little over four years since I've been on Gaia, and everything has changed so much.
How do I get a home in the new towns? IT says to send a request, but when I do nothing happens.

Same. Haven't been on here in forever, figured I'd check out Towns 2 to make a house, and all it does is send a request annnnd... nothing.

To get a house in Towns2, you can create one (become the landlord) or you can find one with a landlord in it and request to move there. I personally went with creating one and becoming a landlord, I sent out requests to my friends and we now all have our houses in the same area.

So
1. Go to Towns2
2. Go to the pier in Screaming Daggers
3. Taxi has two image one for housing (orange) & one for transport (blue)
4. Click the housing icon.
5. You should then be able to either move to your friends houses or create your own place.
6. Create your own neighbourhood and invite your friends.
