Welcome to Gaia! ::

Arikasa's Princess

So there has been a lot of mourning going on recently about ZOMG. People have made claims that this site is worth nothing without it and that everyone should and will leave.

I am there with ya for the most part. It's like... I am just so bummed right now you have no idea. It wasn't just a game for me. But that's another conversation.

I'm here to ask all the oldbies (like myself) what they remember was fun about Gaia BEFORE ZOMG. I sense that most of the left over people here are oldbies because we are waiting for the old Gaia to come back.

Personally, I remember avatar arena, role-playing, spamming, shopping, towns silliness, pinball, word bump, PUZZLES, seasons, holiday events, omg my favorite was receiving new items just from watching commercials and movie trailers (brilliant advertising strategy). Contests... we were very happy without ZOMG. We didn't know any different.

heart Share with me what you remember was fun about Gaia BEFORE ZOMG. What did you do?

Demonic Lover

I'm from '08, wich isn't much for some people but it's 6 years for normal people and that's a long time XD; zOMG! was only "big" for me when it came out, I dealt with it because I needed gold x ox; after I found other ways to make gold (hello aquariums) zOMG! was no more XD then it just wasn't something I ever thought about. Since it hasn't been a part of my Gaia experience in such a long time I find it hard to care x ox; I feel sorry for those who liked it (in many ways) but it's not really making my experience better or worse.

The GCD and the avatar system were what I was into before and after zOMG!, and now as well C:

Tipsy Citizen

So old I don't even know what ZOMG is.

I remember the guilds I used to be apart of. Made some great friends back in the day. 3nodding

My habits around Gaia have never really changed since I joined in 2004. My main source of entertainment has always been talking with my fellow users through our forums. I've met some really great people over the years through them. As long as the forums are around, I'll be coming back from hiatuses. Besides our forums, I love my avatar (as it has become an extension of myself) and playing games since they were first introduced. The puzzles have always been my favorite.

EDIT: I miss the World Map being the main source of navigation throughout Gaia, even though the way navigation is set up now is so much easier. It made me feel like I was more apart of the Gaian world. The immersion that used to be given to the plot is also extremely missed, especially during events.

I've never been a MMO/video game fan, so the end of zOMG! has not affected me personally. But, I wish all of the best to those who have lost their main source of enjoyment here on Gaia. I am saddened for all of you. *Hug*

`.Puzzles.
Those were so fun, man.
Why don't they update those. Why.
Puzzles still feel relatively new to me, even though it's been years. I'm not sure why.
lol

Our main income came from simply being active. Posting. Surfing. Pollwhoring.
Gambling for tickets.
I miss being... forced to interact with the site's nooks and corners.

In the end, though, Gaia has always been about the Forums for me.
When all's said and done, when nifty new features lose their shine and everyone starts getting bored... all that's left, is the Forums.
That seemed to be where all the life was. Folks interacting and whatnot, keeping themselves busy.

Before zOMG there was PLOT... we won't be getting that now either. Not on a planned and guaranteed regular basis. I remember the shooting of Ian... and Ian's trial.... such a hullaballoo

Before zOMG the community was smaller and it was so easy to find a niche and just talk to people.

We had fishing... but that doesn't really cut the mustard these days sweatdrop

I hate to say it, but there isn't a whole lot going for Gaia right now besides item releases.

Unless, Gaia has something else to stimulate the community, these are dark times, Harry. Dark times indeed.
I've always primarily used the forums. I do feel bad for the hardcore zOMG-ers, but I never could get into it - I had/have other MMOs to play outside of Gaia.

I think it's unfortunate that a lot of people have said they are leaving the site now that zOMG has gone, but I've always had fun just posting and lurking.

Valiant Jackling

I played zOMG when it first came out, but stopped playing within 3-4 months, so to me the site is like how it's always been... plus the obvious additions, having joined back in 2003 when there wasn't even a Marketplace. Lol.

Ah you made me so sad. I remember the old Gaia. I remember I used to complain about expensive items but I regret that now. Everything got worse, nothing is the same, things aren't as fun anymore. I remember their own holiday events where you could participate and have a good full experience without having to use Gaia cash, I remember when we got little items here and there for trivial tasks. I remember spending time with my friend and sister completing quests on zOMG. I can still hear the sound of the Null and the sound of the rings. The breathy fluffs and zapping aliens.

Not sure if 07' is considered oldbie yet xd
Before zOMG I mostly played puzzles and chatted in Towns, but I spent the majority of my time browsing my home forum, the Gaming Discussion and being involved at the time in a huge Pokemon thread, right when wi-fi online battles were beginning. zOMG was fun when it was new, I enjoyed the beta testing. I stopped playing it around the time rings became soulbounded and I sold them off in the MP because I was unable to continue playing the game due to a quest glitch in Otami Ruins.

It's sad to see something go, especially something that was so hyped up as the 'battle system'. The game was fun for a while but it slowly dropped off once it stopped being involved with the story line.

Anxious Garbage

I loved messing about in Theaters, joking on the CB, browsing through arenas and playing Pinball. It was a time of working features and regular updates. We didn't have all these matching items, but we didn't care. What are fluffs? What are with these damned flamingos?

I much prefer the time before zOMG. Besides... Gambino was still alive.

Stellar Succubus

For me, it was forums and towns, and dressing up my avatar of course!

I came here prior to zomg's release, and loved the site for those things. For socialising and discussing stuff, for dressing up avatars, creating characters with them!

There always was so much more to this site than that mmo, and I kind of find it a tad upsetting folks think there's nothing to gaia without zomg.
