I think it's just like when they have to push those credit cards to customers. It's just part of the job.

It's part of their job, but it doesn't have to be part of my customer experience every time I walk into their store. :/

In general

bummer, I guess it's just one of those things where it either bothers you or it doesn't.
For me it's like commercials where I can just zone it out, I also just avoid eye contact.
But I suppose one thing you could do is kindly tell them that you would prefer that they not ask you that.
