In undergrad, I got to play a Fazioli piano, handmade in Venice, higher quality than Steinways or Yamahas, but I think most concert halls are fine with the cheap expense of Steinways, versus Faziolis which run about $20,000 more. GORGEOUS sound, especially in the lower registers when playing Rachmaninoff. I performed Rhapsody in Blue on a Fazioli. Amazing.
But few can ever afford such a piano. So this year, I did some searching and managed to find a used grand piano for just $1600!! It's old, and not perfect, but it plays and has a WONDERFUL resonance. The piano consignor (piano/tuning specialist) said she's never heard a piano with the kind of resonance my piano has. It's a Muehlhauser case and action possibly with a Premier Soundboard.
