A series of scenarios between Roi and Nadya~

                                              A dream…
For most of the night Roi slept a relatively dreamless sleep, the flickering images of long gone memories playing on the edges of his subconsciousness but never fully manifesting themselves into dreams or visions before his mind’s eye. Roi’s mind continued this seemingly empty sail through space and time until one of the images suddenly stepped forward in the form of a woman, the motion caused a ripple in which the flickering memories vanished into darkness. The man found himself ‘standing’ before the woman, whose hair shrouded her face from his view. It didn’t matter though; he knew exactly who she was, and he was not very happy to see her

”Why are ye here?” His question sounded more like a command, but the woman made no response nor motion to reply. The two stood together in this strange void that was Roi’s dream, facing off against each other in silence for what felt like an eternity before Roi spoke up again. ”There’s no comin’ back… Ye can’nae come back. Don’ ye know that?” At these words, the woman’s shoulders shuddered slightly, and she began taking unsteady steps towards the redhead. ”Love… I…” Roi tried to take a step backwards, but his feet felt heavy and his legs unresponsive. It was as if he were rooted in place, and the woman quickly reached him, standing mere inches apart from him. Chills ran up and down his spine, and Roi tried to shirk back but his entire body felt numb and sluggish.

”Don’t you miss me.” Her voice was flat, low, with a condescending tone to it. Roi felt as though he were suddenly caught in the steely embrace of a constrictor boa’s coils; it was getting hard to breathe, and despite his mental screaming at his body his limbs would not move or respond. ”Don’t you love me.” ”Rei-- I--” The woman’s head jerked up then, her hair parting to reveal a white, twisted face, lips colored with cold, blue-black death, eyes glassed over with frost.

Roi woke abruptly with a pained gasp, cold sweat beading on his forehead. He grasped his chest as if he could calm his racing heart with the gesture, all the while gasping like someone who had been submerged in water for almost too long. Goddess damn it all, why did that dream keep revisiting him!? Coughing a little from all his gasping, Roi glanced around his room, as if expecting to see her standing by his bed. His bedsheets lay crumpled by the foot of the bed, his pillow somehow on the floor across the room. Dust motes, disturbed by the man’s unrestful movements in his sleep, flitted about in the air. Rays of the morning sun filtered through the thin drapes that hung over the window, illuminating the motes’ silent dance. Focusing on the dust motes to help drive out the image of her from his mind, Roi’s heart rate gradually slowed down and his breathing became more steady and regular.

By the Goddess, what a cruel dream… He couldn’t remember the last time he had an entirely restful sleep where she didn’t pay him a visit. With a shuddering sigh, the redhead buried his face in his hands. Despite the distance he had traveled to reach this place, his mind felt no further from the past that he tried so hard to leave behind him. It felt like if he opened his window and leaned out a little, he would see the rolling hills budding with hardy crops that he had worked so hard to grow in the winter’s frost. Such a thought was terrifying to him.

Shaking his head as if to break himself out of his funk, Roi swung his legs over to the edge of the bed and carefully stood up. There was no more sleep to be gained today, and sitting here alone with his thoughts would not do his health well. After quickly making his bed and cleaning up, the redhead made his way down the stairs to the lobby. It had been a couple of days since he had last seen or talked to Nadya or Mihai; after their fight and make up, Roi had given the two wide berth as to avoid sparking anything that would tear the fragile relationship apart again. With a measure of luck and simply knowing the two’s general schedule, he had managed to get in and out of the inn unnoticed. Today, though, he would stop hiding from them.

If Mihai is at the front desk…
Seeing Nadya’s brother at the receptionist’s desk wasn’t the most comforting thing for Roi that morning. Frankly, the dark-skinned man put the redhead on edge, as if he had to always be walking on eggshells around him to avoid angering him. If Mihai was slow to anger, Roi wouldn’t have ever guessed, not with the first impression that he received just a couple days earlier. His angry expression and sharp voice had burned themselves into Roi’s memory, causing him to approach the front desk cautiously.

”G’mornin’ to ye, Mr. Gry,” Roi greeted. ”How… how are things?” It felt a little strange asking the question, as if he were prying into things that he shouldn’t. He was at least partially a part of their conflict though (if not responsible for sparking the whole thing), so he felt that he at least had the right to the question.

If Nadya is at the front desk…
The familiar jingle of the jewelry that Nadya usually wore around her angles greeted Roi’s ears first, and the shining of the blue jewels that she wore on her forhead and neck greeted his vision next. A smile tugged at his lips as he looked the woman over and approached the front desk. It was good to see her again, and she seemed to be faring quite well despite her fight with her brother just a couple of days ago. He felt a familiar warmth wash over him as blue eyes met olive-green eyes, and the smile spread across his face. The darkness that clouded his mind from his recent nightmare was pushed away by the sight of the woman for the time being, allowing for a small measure of comforting peace.

”G’mornin’ to ye, Nadya,” he intoned warmly. ”How are things farin’ between ye and yer brother?” He gave a small, nervous glance around for her protective brother. The coast seemed clear. ”I’m… I’m allowed to talk t’ye now, right?”

All things considering, Nadya had slept fairly well the night before. One of the empty rooms on the first floor of the inn had been converted to a second bedroom for her; despite the loss in profits that might come from one less room to rent out, Mihai had finally relented and admitted that Nadya was far too old to be sharing a room with her brother. She was thrilled by the new privacy and the new space for her to decorate to her own tastes. She couldn’t remember ever being able to pick out her own decorations for her room! And in order to fund her upcoming shopping spree Nadya had agreed to take the morning desk work. Her brother was a lot more eager to financially ‘support her cause’ when he got to sleep in a little in the morning.

Nadya had risen with the sun, getting prepared for the day with a quick bath and fresh clothes. She had prepared a long list the night before and was quite eager to get everything checked off before Mihai woke up; the little bet they’d made (him suggesting she couldn’t possibly finish everything in time, vs. her who was much more confident) was probably only a slight motivator. Probably.

Much of her early morning had been spent cleaning. Sweeping, dusting, tidying, refilling jugs of soaps and cleaning up the empty rooms. She was finished long before Mihai would wake up, and again found herself sitting boredly behind the desk waiting for something to happen. Of course when a familiar (and much missed) face appeared, her eyes lit up and she moved from her chair to stand in front of the desk with a brilliant smile.
“Mr. K— Roi! Hey! I’ve missed you,” she joked lightly, chuckling a little as she moved forwards to meet him. “Good morning to you as well. Did you sleep alright?” Her question had no real weight behind it, as she couldn’t possibly know about his restless night, but was asked with the sincerest of intentions. “And things are going very well between Phrala and I.

“You know, he even gave me my own room!” Nadya was practically bristling with excitement. “It’s right on the main floor, so it’s still really close to him, but I don’t have to share anymore; I can finally decorate and not get complaints about how girly it is! Maybe I’ll show you after I’m finished,” she noted with a playful but innocent wink. His question, however, set her right into a fit of giggles. “Yes, it’s alright for us to talk. After we made up we sat and had a long talk, and he agreed that he was being a little too… protective. He’s going to give me a little bit of space, and let me make my own friends and decisions. In exchange, I’m not allowed to run crying to him when something goes wrong.” She chuckled a little, obviously taking the quoted threat of her brother’s quite lightly. After all, what was the worst that could possibly happen? She was a grown woman, after all!

“Oh, speaking of which! Would you have the time to join me this afternoon? Phrala will be taking over in about an hour, so I’m hoping to go into town and pick up some new sheets for my bed and some drapes for the window; company would be lovely,” she offered, her expression and tone becoming reproachfully hopeful. “Only if you don’t mind, that is,” she added in a rushed, almost shy manner.

Joy bubbled in Roi’s chest at seeing Nadya’s smile again in quite a while and the smile on his own face grew to match hers. While her smile brought the man much happiness, it also brought him a measure of relief; surely if things were a lot more sour between Mihai and her regarding him, she would not wear such a happy smile towards him. “Mr. K— Roi! Hey! I’ve missed you. Good morning to you as well. Did you sleep alright?” He chuckled as he too drew closer towards her, making a joke of his own. ”I’ve missed ye too, lass; it’s been ages! I slept… fine.” The redhead had not meant to hesitate slightly in his response, but he certainly didn’t want to think about the horrors that he had suffered through last night. Fortunately, Nadya had plenty of exciting things on her mind to tell Roi, and his little slip-up seemed to pass unnoticed.

”That’s all wonderful to hear, lass!” he finally replied, laughing heartily as Nadya finished all that she had to say. While she talked at nearly a mile a minute, the redhead had no choice but to remain mum. His face probably spoke volumes for him throughout the whole thing; the look of uncertainty at her invitation to ‘see her room’ after she was done with it, the look of relief upon learning that her brother was letting her act on her own now, and the tentative smile at the conditions of Mihai’s compromise with his sister. From what he had seen of the world and its inhabitants thus far in his travels, the protective type never easily let up their overbearing grip on their ‘subjects’, no matter the kind of agreement that is reached between both parties. On the inverse side, they also seemed to carry the mentality that once their ‘subject’ assumes control and responsibility for themselves they would cease to care at all for their newly liberated ‘subject’. Perhaps it was a joke on Mihai’s part and Roi was simply overthinking it in Nadya’s case, but couldn’t there have been a happy middle ground? ‘Be free to make your own mistakes, and I will be here to help you through rough times’ kind of thing?

”I’d be honored t’join ye in yer afternoon adventure. I’m not too sure how much help I could be…” Roi scratched at the scruff on his chin thoughtfully. From the sounds of things, Nadya wanted to decorate her room with ‘girly’ things, and somehow the redhead was pretty sure that picking out ‘girly’ decor was not his forte. ”I suppose I can help carry everythin’.” He chuckled. ”In either case, I don’ mind joinin’ ye. Will we stop for lunch before or after? Should I meet ye here in an hour?”

Nadya cocked her head to the side, confused about the odd hesitation in his speech. He didn’t seem inclined to bring it up, and she resisted the strong urge to ask. Surely if it were her business, he’d tell her. Right?
“I’m glad to hear that,” she responded in a warm tone, her smile practically glowing. “And I am really glad to see you again. It’s been far too long,” she paused, flushing a little with embarrassment before continuing in a nervous mumble. “Even if it’s just been a few days.”

When Roi accepted her invitation Nadya was practically bursting at the seems with excitement. She hadn’t really expected him to accept when she’d jumped on him so suddenly, but it was certainly a pleasant surprise for her. She chuckled a little, shaking her head at his suggestion.
“I couldn’t make you carry everything, Silly!” The dancer whirled on her heel, moving to pull something out of a drawer quickly. Her eyes scanned what was obviously some form of receipt for a moment before she turned her eyes up towards him with a victorious smile. “If I can carry two twenty five pound bags of rice on my own, surely I can carry some decorations, after all!

“I’d really love it if you’d join me for lunch,”
Nadya said, beaming up at him. “Perhaps we could grab something to eat while we’re out? If you don’t mind waiting, I mean,” she added with a frown, pursing her lips. “I’ll be finished when Phrala wakes, and can take over, but until then I have to stay…”
“I’m really not accustomed to you being so chatty so early,” a familiar male voice chimed from the room beside the stairs, a very drowsy looking Mihai appearing from behind the wooden door. At least he was properly dressed and ready for the day. “Run along, Nadya. I’ll take care of it,” he added after a moment, though his eyes remained suspiciously on Roi. “Will you be escorting my sister, Mr. King?” he asked with a smile and tone that appeared pleasant enough, despite the electric charge behind it. “Well, I do hope you enjoy your day, Nadya. Be careful.” he offered, turning his eyes towards his sister after a long pause.

Nadya didn’t seem to notice the evil eye that Mihai had given her friend, and was far too thrilled to be in Roi’s company to care anyways.
“Yes!” she exclaimed in response. “Thank you, Phrala.”
