"Watch it!" The short girl snarled after someone had bumped into her. The stranger had recoiled and stepped away, more from confusion than fear. The blonde glared with her sharp, honey-colored eyes for a brief moment before continuing on her way. She muttered something to herself, which didn't sound like anything pleasant.

It was noon at Market Square, meaning that the academy was as lively as could be. Merchants, students, travellers, and nearby citizens were crowded around market stalls and in small groups. The collection of voices made for orchestrated chaos that barely allowed a person to think. The irritation that resulted from this was clearly present in the young lady's expression, which was in a deep scowl. Perhaps that was merely her default, though, given that she didn't seem particularly friendly to begin with. Regardless, she weaved her way through the sea of people to try and reach the academy's entrance and escape the grounds.

After elbowing her way through the crowd and threatening a merchant who wouldn't get out of her way, Kreiva managed to get outside of the market and beyond the mouth of the academy grounds. From there it was only a short walk before the sound of the crowds died down and she had some semblance of peace. She stretched, and then let out a deep breath. "What sort of school for imbeciles lets merchants set up shop right in front of the only way in and out of the grounds? Bunch of slack-jawed asshats." The witch grumbled.

Though there we a few buildings in the surrounding area, a great deal of land was left untouched, giving a lovely scene of rolling hills and forests. Kreiva stood at the peak of a nearby hill, with her dark cloak blowing in the breeze. Despite her small statue, she cut an impressive figure of a lone traveller. She removed her wide brimmed hat and held it by her side to let her messy hair blow about as well while she took in the view. "At least they've got something going for them here."

Though the view from the hill was as scenic as could be, it was also quite boring. One could only stare off into the distance and enjoy the breeze for so long before the mind began to wander to other things. Kreiva fitted her hat back on her head, then continued her strolling.

Though lesson-free days at the academy were a welcome break, it was sometimes hard to fill in the time gap until the next day. The idea of studying was laughable - it was a day off, not a chance to work more - and any form of entertainment tended to carry a cost. Kreiva wasn't exactly rolling in money, and she was a penny-pincher to boot. The young witch wondered if Avalon Academy was an actual school or a tourist trap. Come to think of it, she really didn't want to be here in the first place. Various circumstances lead her to showing up at this institute for egomaniacs and weirdos, and she had regretted it from the moment she came. She idly rubbed her gloved hand on her neck, along with a small, silver star pinned to her collar, and gave a small huff as she did so. "Good-for-nothing dragon." Kreiva muttered.

In the absence of any other direction, Kreiva followed the wind. Each shift in the breeze had her set on a new course, and even had her walking in circles. The witch's mind drifted elsewhere, and thus her body moved mostly on instinct. Because of that, she was mildly surprised to see herself standing amongst the tall trees of the academy's woods when her senses returned to her on a whim.

Despite its remote nature, the forest was a popular spot for many students. While still close to civilization, it offered a sense of tranquility to simply be lost amongst nature, and with the lake so close, it was like an easily accessible getaway. An added benefit was the abundance of plant life for those interested in herbs, but not so interested in shelling out marks for what vendors charged. In Kreiva's case, she could use them for brewing, as well as a means to earn some money on the side. It wasn't profitable, but it kept something in her stomach. On that note, her stomach reminded her that she hadn't eaten lunch yet. The witch delved into her bag to see what she had, and produced a quarter of a loaf of bread. Might as well be a feast, as far as she was concerned. She bit off a chunk and wanderer deeper into the forest.

The witch's little stroll through the thicket was proving rather bountiful. By the time she had finished her bread, she had picked about a dozen herbs, which would produce roughly double that in ground packets. Not much to go on, all things considered, but it was still better than nothing. Who knows, she much get lucky and come across someone desperate and wring them for a few marks. Kreiva grinned at the thought.

After a bit of wandering, the blonde came across something that made her recoil ever so slightly - a cracked mask lay on the ground. She didn't feel anything strange emanating from it, nor did she see or hear anyone in the area. Carefully, she picked it up and inspected it. The dark mask seemed completely normal, besides being damaged. It was a shame, because she could have pawned it off otherwise. Still, it was something interesting to look at at. After some testing, she found it was still pretty solid even with the cracks in it. Kreiva placed the oddity in her bag to have as a weird keepsake. It wasn't every day a person found strange treasures like this, and who knows, someone might just come looking for it.

The rest of the stroll through the forest was relatively uneventful. The witch found a few more herbs to swipe, but nothing else of interest like the mask. She found herself wondering about the owner and the circumstances that lead to them losing, and damaging, the concealer. Was there some sort of party that had happened out here? It wasn't unheard of for students to go camping in the forest, and to have bonfires during celebrations. In all likelihood, the owner had been buzzed and dropped the mask then stepped on it during their stupor. Not a very exciting conclusion, but it all fit together. Another mystery solved, Kreiva supposed.

After some more navigating, the girl came across the serene Malae lake. The breeze had died down a bit, and coupled with the shielding from the surrounding trees, there was very little disturbance on the water's surface. What a sight it must be, to see a lake looking smooth and rigid as glass. The only time that would likely happen was a day where the weather was unbearably hot, though, so the witch didn't get her hopes up of seeing something like that any time soon. She skipped a rock laying near the edge of the water (she made it to four skips, which was pretty good for her) before helping herself to a seat. She arched her legs and gently gripped her opposite wrist in a loose hug on her own body. She briefly wondered if any fish lived in the lake, as that would make for a nice source of emergency food, but she really didn't know how to prepare a fish. Unless a cook or more crafty student was particularly bored and feeling like helping her, that too would remain just another dream.

After sitting around for what felt to be about half an hour, Kreiva yawned, removed her hat, then laid back and spread out on the grass. The feeling of the blades of grass prickling her exposed skin was strange, but somewhat nice. Perhaps this was a similar concept to acupuncture, though she didn't fancy the idea of anyone sticking needles into her, regardless of the benefits. The witch closed her golden eyes, took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled. "Maybe this place won't completely suck if I can have more days like this." She mused.

The warmth of the sun, the ease of the breeze, and the overarching silence was a recipe for an afternoon nap. Kreiva didn't even realize that her eyelids were drooping, or that her conscious senses were drifting away from her. It was one of the most gentle descents into sleep that she had ever experienced. The worries of money, talent, studies, and dragons were replaced by a numb darkness that, in a grim similarity to death, could not be understood by the mind.

Though the flow of time is greatly skewed when resting, Kreiva's sleeping mind felt as though it had been drifting in its own 'space' for hours. Though she could not hope to comprehend or explain how or why, she had some sort of feeling that she was looking for something. No, not looking, arriving at. She knew precisely where it was located, but was in no hurry to get there. Why should she be, after all? What did it matter when she arrived, knowing that she inevitably would? This could wait for hundreds of millions of years if she damn well pleased. Onward she drifted at her steady pace, moving constantly forward in an irrelevant form of measurement, until at last she arrived. But what was she arriving at?

Fire. Lightning. Thunder. Cloaks. Of course they were all there, there was never any doubt, but what did they want? Everything looked and felt hazy. The witch had pointed a finger at them, but not of her own accord. It was like she was simply watching something that had already taken place, but through her own eyes. The hoods of the cloaks were removed, and there were masks. Strange masks. Masks she had never seen before, and yet were as familiar as her own reflection. One was missing, however, and their face was draped in shadow.

"Why am I seeing this?"

Kreiva's senses surged through her body, activating all at once, and she jolted as a result. She opened her eyes, sat up, and shook her head. She had just seen something, something... she couldn't recall it, already it had faded from her mind. She rubbed her eyes, realizing she had fallen asleep. It was pretty safe out here, but that was a bad thing to do all the same. "Better not do that again." She mumbled.

Kreiva stretched and breathed out. If she had dreamed something, it was gone now. No sense worrying about what you can't control and all that.
The witch gaze up at the sky to see where the sun was positioned. As best she could tell, she wasn't even out for half an hour. That was a relief, it would have sucked to have slept the day away, even if there wasn't much to do. Having potential for something interesting to happen was always better, at least in her opinion. She grabbed her hat, got on her feet, then retraced her steps through the forest.

After another pleasant stroll amidst the local area, along with a less pleasant trip through Market Square again, Kreiva arrived at the Atheneum. Students were coming and going, alone or with friends, some with dragons if they were small in stature, making this the second busiest area on the campus. As the blonde weaved her way through the crowds, she could see the looks and grins from the corners of her eyes. She could practically hear the words they were thinking in their thick heads. Short stack. Urchin. Weirdo. Her scowl deepened and controlling the urge to grab one of those smug ******** and throttle them was getting steadily harder. Thankfully, she turned the corner and walked inside the library, where everyone was too busy pouring over tomes to pay her any mind. She cast a glance to the librarian on duty, who was busy looking over lendings and returns. Kreiva breathed out her anger, bringing it from a near boil to its usual, gentler simmer. She wandered toward the shelves and began appraising the books and scrolls for something entertaining.

"Many researchers have speculated on the origin story of human and dragon coexistence, that being the tale of Bahamut and Avalon. While their meeting on a battlefield and subsequent union creates a very romanticized scene, this was, in all likelihood, a fabrication of sorts." Kreiva sniffed idly and turned the page. "Indeed, the accuracy of the tale as a whole is very much a subject of debate. Across different cultures who follow the origin story, the only static aspects of the story seem to be the characters of Bahamut and Avalon themselves. In one variant of the story, the two were combatants who had become wounded and unable to fight, and sought their union out of disability rather than good nature. Another suggested that Bahamut had captured the maiden, and planned to eat her, until she made the dragon see differently. Because of the muddling of details, whether unintentional or not, historians have found little reason to delve into subjects such as genealogy to learn more of the spiritual bonds shared between our species, and subsequently suggest that researchers focus their efforts elsewhere in the hope of understanding dragons and their masters."

"Way to drag that out, dumbass." Kreiva commented as she closed the book over. 'Dragon Masters and Spiritual Pacts' were written in flaked, golden lettering on the cover of the text. "Anyone that can bind a book suddenly calls themselves an expert. ******** waste of time." She muttered as she folded her arms on the table she had seated herself at, and rested her chin atop them. Bored, bored, bored.

'A Brief History of Gallanen', 'Properties of the Elements', 'Draconic Physiology'. A number of tomes were piled at the table where Kreiva sat, whilst she herself sat with her chin resting in her propped up hand. The titles were fetching enough, but after going over the first few pages, she discovered that they were rather lackluster. What were people supposed to do for fun around here? Of course, that was a silly question. They probably went to pubs and got shitfaced, likely with friends. "It's not my fault everyone is a dumbass and make for shitty company. Or that my dragon is insufferable." The witch's frown deepened, then she quietly cursed and rose from her seat. She didn't bother putting her books back - the shelvers probably got off on that sort of thing anyway.

The blonde girl had exited from the library and was making her way back to the courtyard. It wasn't quite evening yet, so she figured she would take a brief look around the market to see if anyone might be willing to buy her unrefined herbs, and not undercut her to hell and back in the process. She turned a corner, but smacked into somebody as she did so. Having better things to do than chew someone out, she was willing to let this person get away with silent acceptance.

"Watch it, dwarf."

Then again, she could sell herbs any time. She tilted her head back to look up from under the wide brim of her hat, revealing a glare said by many to be colder than an arctic wind. "No, you watch it, you s**t-brained goblin." She shot back. The other student was a young man, perhaps just shy of adulthood, with looks that reeked of money in both clothes and physique. He had dirty blonde hair, s**t-brown eyes, and a fair complexion. For clothing, he sported a white, long-sleeved dress shirt, a dark vest, matching black slacks, and high riding boots. Shocking as it might be, it seemed he didn't appreciate such a comment. He narrowed his eyes and curled his hands into fists.
"One star? If you apologize right now, I'll let you off this one time." He tilted his head to emphasize the three stars pinned to his collar, but Kreiva didn't break eye contact.
"Apologize for what? The truth? No, you seem like the type that needs a little more honesty in his life. You're a waddling bigot and need to learn some respect."
"Big words for a runt. Come on, then. Training grounds. Let's settle this properly."
"Ladies first." Kreiva gestured for him to lead on.

He was barefoot and had red eyes."I'm just glad we dont have to do any more traveling. I'm worn..." He admitted to his black scaled companion who only huffed and looked away. Meelos walked with his hands behind his head. "How about we split up and do some exploring? I'll check out the market and you can check out the scenery?" The dragon glanced away from him for a moment then peeked a view at the bow who seemed to have a huge smile on his face now.

"About an hour or two?" Meelos suggested as his dragon flew off. They didn't know each other for very long and the dragon was the more civilized of the two, but Meelos and Sven made a perfect pair. They understood each other's habits and their weaknesses and there was a mutual love between the two. A bond Meelos hadn't shared with anyone before. In truth, Sven was Meelos' only friend now, not that it bothered Either of them one bit. They only had each other and they liked it that way.

As he walked, Meelos came across a small inn. He didn't bother to go to the front office of the academy first. He found wandering around aimlessly to be much more interesting. "Alright, a place to eat.... I hope the foods good." He said to himself when, as if on cue, is stomach growled with hunger. When Meelos entered the inn, he could already smell the food. He took a seat by himself and waited patiently for something to eat.

((I rarely make posts this big, it was just because I was dictating the battle from start to finish.))

As was generally the case when two people felt the need to settle matters with fists as opposed to words, a small gathering was happening around the arena. Taunts were being tossed, bets were being placed, and medics were sighing while getting space cleared for the loser. The young man, called Jorin based on what a couple of third ranks were shouting, was the favorite for this match. No one even knew Kreiva's name, given that she hadn't been at the academy for even a full week yet. All of the festivity was being ignored by the witch, however. She merely stood across from Jorin, with her arms crossed, eyes locked, and cloak drifting in the wind. The only thing ruining her otherwise intimidating image was her height.

Jorin was standing near his dragon while fitting a pair of gloves on his hand. His partner had scarlet scales, a silver underbelly, and gleaming yellow eyes. He had a long neck that gave him an impressive height of perhaps nine feet to add to his image.
"Where's your partner, shrimp?" Jorin called out. "Or were you all talk?"
"I don't need a lizard to throttle you, dickhead." She replied.
A certain hush fell over the crowd at Kreiva's response. Masters and dragons worked together to accomplish practically everything at the academy. What the witch had boldly stated was near blasphemy. After taking moment to see that she was serious, Jorin gave a wide smile and shook his head.
"This is too good. You can't even control your dragon, and you're going to fight us both? I almost feel bad for you. Fine, it's your grave." He turned his head to the crowd. "Give the signal."
Kreiva used the lull to remove her hat and cloak, which she set aside, and tie her back into a comfortable ponytail. She then took hold of her tool of the trade, her enchanted broom, acting as both a sturdy staff of sorts along with her main means of transport. She had just taken in a deep breath and exhaled it when someone shouted "FIGHT!"

Quick as a whip, the witch threw her legs over her broom and kicked off into the sky. Jorin followed suit by mounting his partner and taking chase. It was immediately apparent that Kreiva was faster on her broom, which she used to her advantage to fly circles around her targets. The dragon tried to snap and swipe at her when it drew close, but it was like trying to swat an active fly out of the air on a hot summer day. Kreiva grinned at just how pathetic the scene must look - an accomplished master, riding his majestic dragon, and flailing about like a fish out of water. She decided it would be best to end this quick, lest he get lucky somehow. The witch began to call out the incantation for a blinding spell, intending to obscure Jorin's and his dragon's vision to easily knock the p***k off his saddle, but had to cut it short when a jet of flame erupted from the beast's mouth. She took evasive action, swearing loudly at nearly being made into a human torch, and was preparing to retaliate when she felt a sudden jerk from underneath her. Though both hands were firmly grasped on her broom, she was jolted from her riding position and now dangling in the air. She was caught in shock and confusion, and turned her eyes upward to see that Jorin had snatched the back of her broom with a long, slender whip during her dodge. She wanted to yell something obscene at him, but didn't have the time - while he held her broom in place, she could see smoke billowing out from the dragon's mouth as it prepared to loose another fireball. There was nothing she could do. She released her broom and plummeted to the ground.

When the witch hit the dirt, everyone knew it was over. Screams of pain carried across the field as bones snapped, but the onlookers paid little mind and simply dispersed. Injuries were commonplace here, and the medics were already rushing to tend to her. Kreiva spat whatever curses she could in between her cries of agony, but Jorin merely laughed in response as he flew off.

He was more than sure that Sven had found something to eat while exploring. That always happened between the two. With hunger in his eyes, Meelos took the first scoop of the food on his plate only to be distracted as it reached his mouth. Without taking a bite he looked out of the window, off a little ways to watch the display.

No doubt that was a dragon in the air. A dragon and something much smaller. He strained to see but couldn't make out what was going on until the dragon started to breathe fire. It was then that Meelos realized the dragon was attacking something or someone, at the school. This type of thing excited Meelos enough for him to forget about eating and be on his way. If there was anything he loved more than eating and sleeping, it was fighting and he watched to catch the scene before it was over.

Along the way Meelos caught sight of his ash colored dragon, Sven, who also seemed to be heading that way. "Hey Sven! Down here!" He called and the dragon glanced down, and hesitantly landed. "Fire breather..." Meelos stated and Sven nodded. To be honest, since Meelos met Sven, they had been searching for another dragon, particularly a fire breather, to help them train but were unsuccessful, until now.

Meelos and Sven arrived at the end of the event as the crowd began to disperse. "Guess it's over.." He stated as he watched the boy and his dragon fly off. He looked around for signs of another dragon but could see none. Only a girl surrounded by medics. He figured one of them had to know. So even though Sven didn't want Meelos getting involved, the boy did anyways, walking up to the girl and the medics. "What... happened here?" He questioned, looking over at the girl's things, then in the direction he boy flew off to.

It took a moment to get Kreiva under control. Like a wild animal, she was thrashing about while the medics tried to help her, and only worsened her pain as the bones that she had broken shifted. Realizing that she was in too much pain and wouldn't cooperate, one of the medics asked her partner to restrain the witch for a moment, then forced her to swallow a sedative. She continued to struggle and sob for a moment before her movements began to slow and her cries fell silent.
"This first ranker tried to fight a third rank student. Didn't have her dragon with her or anything. She fell about two stories. She's lucky it wasn't higher." The medic sighed, then went about tending to the young lady.
"Its nuts that you folks get these kinds of injuries every day." The other medic commented, as he stood and glanced at the male student. "I guess the bond you share makes you tougher and quicker to heal. I've seen cases worse than this in the training grounds, and the sods were walking around within a day or two. You a friend of hers?"
