Hello, im still new with backgrounds or at least realistic ones.. and say anything be honest please, honesty is the best policy!!!! And not just about the background, about everything.

The background was added last minute don't hit me too hard!

The only thing I can see that's a little wonky with this is the shadow of the palm tree. With where the woman is in relation to the palm tree and it's shadow, she really should be covered by it's shadow just a little bit. As for the palm shadow in the sand, it's very round for a pointy plant in direct and intense sunlight. I would try to darken the figure of the woman to really push her into the foreground. Then lighten the palm to push it back. Once that's finished, define the shadow more so it mimics the leaf shape of the palm tree.

The sand, water, and sky are fine. It's better to leave them as is, with a more impressionistic than detailed look, because it helps add depth to the painting.

It's beautiful! The palm has much better placement. The shadows and highlights on the mermaid are stunning! You should be very proud. Excellent job!

far better! very lovely work you captured it really well and your colours are just beautiful. and she looks almost exactly like one of my friends who's a model! (we're both from the caribbean too) biggrin
