um. I don't see the point of this article. Turning off online means you can't participate in the multiplayer stuff, so whats so 'punishing' about that?
Looking at some other articles that explain what the Notoriety system is about, it's actually pretty bad if I understand it right.
The multiplayer is tied into the single player much like Dark Souls is, you play the game on your own time, and other people can invade your game, in order to "hack" you and if they succeed in hacking you, they leech notoriety off of you every time you gain some, which is basically Experience, which can unlock skills to do whatever it is they do.
But if you
ever turn off the online function, your multiplayer progress and skills are all wiped away and put down to 0, potentially every single time you do it. Which means all those skills that you may have earned through multiplayer after hours and hours of gameplay are now gone, and you're in the middle of the story with none of the skills you just had.
