On a slightly related note, at around the same time I found out about BABYMETAL I found a friggin' awesome Japanese Band called DOLL$BOXX.

They're absolutely fantastic and I could listen to their stuff for hours on end.

Japanese idols always get hated on. Nothing new. Even members of AKB48 who are pre-teens/teens have been harassed and yelled at by haters at their handshake events... they literally buy tickets to these handshake events just to yell at little girls. I think that's even more pathetic than bashing idols behind a computer screen. Just best to ignore them.
