Engrossed in the moment he had been sharing with his mother, Shion didn't notice this servant enter the room. But when the deep voice of Korou met his ears, the young prince's back became rigid. His face turned quickly, the tears which had just barely been contained now fell down his cheeks as his shocked eyes met his. 'What is he doing here? How much has he seen...?' Surprised silence turned into anger and rage, making Shion quickly rise to his feet, the hair brush falling to the floor with a clanking noise. "Did you choose to ignore the fact that I was not to be disturbed?! Why didn't you just leave the flowers with one of the maids outside the door?!?! How dare you come in here and speak as if you are wanted!! You miserable little-" His words cut the air like a knife.

His onslaught of hurtful words were cut short by one of the machines the queen was hooked into, beeping frantically. Then another machine. Wakako rushed into the room, rudely shoving the prince out of the way and shouting orders to the various nurses. "Wh-What's happening?!" Shion choked up, his eyes wide with horror as his mother's body went limp and the servants carried her to the bed. "Get him out of here!!!" Wakako yelled, obviously irritated and in work-mode. Maids carefully obeyed the doctors orders and ushered the terrified prince from the room.

Shion was waiting in his room, pacing for the longest time before he forfeited his body to an armchair. It was only moment's later that Wakako, the doctor, came into the room. His expression was stern and hard, giving no sign of the dutiful respect a servant would give to a prince. "You should learn how to keep your temper inside, you highness. High stress scenarios only worsen your mother's condition. Did you learn nothing from the last time?!" The doctor spoke to him like he was a child, scolding him with no restraint. Shion sat on one of the many cushioned arm chairs that decorated his room, staring at the floor and saying nothing. He just listened. "Queen FeiLei isn't strong enough for your outbursts. You should stay away from her room for a while. It will take time for her to recover." That was the last thing Wakako said, a small bit of sympathy dragging along his words as he turned and left the room, leaving the prince alone.

The silence was in the room was heavy, almost in a toxic way. And the young man didn't move. Not for a while. He remained sitting on that chair, staring at his feet. Suddenly, his arm flew out and caught the porcelain vase perched atop the side table before launching at across the room as he screamed loudly. It was a cry of anger and frustration, and most of all, sadness and remorse that was coupled with large tears pouring down his face. The vase hit the opposite wall with a loud crash. But that wasn't the end of his rampage. Chairs were flipped, as were tables. Two more vases had also felt his wrath, hitting the floor and walls as the other had and shattering. Eventually, the young man fell the his knees, holding his head and silently crying to himself. "Mama... I am so sorry..." Quiet words found their way from his lips between sobs

As soon as he saw Shion's form become rigid, Korou knew he should have kept his mouth shut. He should have waited. But the guards had allowed him to enter...wouldn't they have told him if he wasn't allowed to enter? So that only left the option of Shion giving permission for his entrance.... 'Damn it Shion!' Of course, he wouldn't yell at his superior though. Instead Korou bit his lip and held back the words which yearned to pounce from his mouth. They all disappeared in an instant when the other male turned to him though. Was Shion...crying? Was that even possible? Surprise was evident upon his features at the man who stood before him. He was so unlike the prince that Korou usually encountered it made him wonder if this was even real. Yet, he also felt a great desire to wrap his arms around the younger male and comfort him.

Korou was rocketed back to the present as Shion began to berate him. He bit his lip and forced his gaze downward. There was no point in even trying to apologize to Shion until he was done venting. Really, he had expected the whole ordeal to last far longer than it did but it wasn't because he was done that Shion stopped, it was his mother. Something was wrong. Korou had no idea what since he possessed no knowledge of these machines, but Shion's reaction and that of the staff proved it. Korou stood in the midst of all this chaos completely unsure of what he should do. Did he leave? Stay and help? And what the hell was he supposed to do with these flowers now?! In the end, he set the bouquet on a nearby table and began to assist the maids. Shion had already been ushered out of the room and one of those still present had snapped Korou back into the present by barking an order at him.

He didn't remain in the room for long, only until the initial chaos had calmed some and it seemed that his assistance was no longer required. After that, he headed for Shion's room. He needed to clean up...and apologize. That is, if Shion was even willing to listen to him. Somehow, Korou doubted that. He stood outside of Shion's door for several moments as he debated whether or not to enter now or comeback later but by the time he had made a decision, Wakako had arrived and strode right past Korou to speak with the young prince. He was...lecturing Shion. Even more surprising was that Shion simply sat there and listened. Korou bit his lip at Wakako's last statement and his hands balled into fists. Hell, he'd really done it now. Korou stepped to the side as the doctor left and waited for the destruction that he knew was sure to follow.

He winced when Shion cried out, hearing the first vase shatter shortly after. The destruction continued on for several moments more with Korou standing beside the door and listening. Part of him wanted to simply leave and wait before coming to see Shion again, but their meeting was inevitable and the longer he put this off the worse it would be. Plus, he couldn't just leave Shion alone. Not in the state he was in. Korou tapped softly on the door before poking his head in. This was followed by the rest of him as his eyes scanned the enormous room for Shion. After locating the male, he carefully picked his way through the debris and to Shion. What could he say? What could he do? He couldn't change the past, couldn't change what he had done. But he wanted to. As much as he might despise Shion sometimes, he would never wish to harm him in such a way.

Korou dropped to his knees beside Shion and wrapped his arms around the male, pulling him close as instinct took over.
"I'm sorry." Two little words. They were all he could muster and filled with his emotions, but his words wouldn't change what had happened. They wouldn't turn back the clock and allow them to try again. Part of him expected Shion to lash out, and maybe he would, but Korou wasn't about to abandon the prince. Not after what had just happened. Shion had wanted to spend the entire day with his mother and now he wanted be able to see her for who knew how long. And it was all his fault.

Once again, Korou had slipped into the room. The knock was more than audible, but Shion couldn't hear anything right now in his rage and sadness. But his downward gaze did catch movement before him. He knew who it was; the only person who would be foolish enough to interrupt him a second time. The prince didn't even lift his head to confirm who it was. "Haven't you caused enough tr-" The broken, shaken words of the prince were cut short as strong arms pulled him into a firm embrace. Tears spilled from his red-brown eyes as the snapped wide in shock.

Words. Two simple words that held so much more to them in the tone they were spoken. It was sad. Heavy. Shion's cheeks grew warm as the two males sat on the plush, carpeted floor. 'What... What is he doing!? My does my chest feel as if it were about to burst.' He was sure that through his embrace, Korou could feel his heart beating harder than he had ever felt it beat before. Shion's mind was racing as he gathered himself and shoved the man servant away with all of his strength. "What in the world are you doing?! Are you forgetting who I am?!" He screamed, his cheeks a light red as he crawled backwards, away from Korou. But that was a rather thoughtless idea, considering shattered glass was scattered over the floor. And such a piece found it's way under one of the hands of the retreating prince.

A yelp accompanied by the bright red staining the cream colored carpet made obvious of that had happened. Pulling his hand into view, all color drained from his face, Shion cradled his hand to his chest, ignoring if it ruined his clothing. "O-Ouch..." He muttered to himself, wincing as he held his hand tightly. The shard of porcelain was still imbedded in his palm, but he didn't bother calling out to anyone, not even the servant before him. There would be no use calling out to Wakako, seeing how he was busy with his mother anyway. "I'll clean this up. Just go." His voice was flat as Shion just stood and brushed past Korou in the floor, making his way to the bathroom to try and get it out.

The manservant ignored Shion's words completely as he kneeled down. It didn't particularly matter anyway since the prince was silenced as soon as Korou embraced him. However, the contact didn't last long. Honestly, it didn't come as a surprise to Korou when Shion shoved him away since he had expected some form of retaliation. Korou's hands hit the floor to steady himself from the sudden motion and he grit his teeth at the sudden pain which sht through them. There was no glass behind him, but debris still littered the area and it would have been a miracle to not hit something. Shion's words registered in his mind a moment later but the male had no answer for them. Of course he knew what he had done, but Shion wanted the why despite the wording of his inquiry. Korou could tell that from the way the prince spoke. And forget who he was? Ha! Like Shion would ever let him. But, in that moment, it hadn't really mattered to Korou. Superior or not, what he had seen was boy tormented by his emotions and in need of comfort. How was he to explain that to Shion though? The simple answer was that he wouldn't. The prince would never accept that reasoning. He would never admit to a moment of weakness.

Korou was rocketed back to the present when Shion yelped and his eyes snapped to the prince. Of course, no one had entered the room which meant he had injured himself on something in the room. Probably something on the floor since he had been in such a hurry to get away. His gaze shifted from the male's features to the hand cradled against his chest. And it was bleeding.
'As if the thing with his mother wasn't enough!' Korou berated himself mentally for this new development. It seemed no matter what he did today, something would go wrong. First, he caused Shion's outburst in front of the Queen and her condition worsened. Now, he tried to comfort Shion and instead caused him to get a piece of porcelain lodged within his hand. A soft sigh parted his lips as Korou rose to his feet, preparing to walk over to Shion. It would be so much easier for the prince to avoid him if he were to crawl over, and Korou didn't know if he would try to or not.

"Le-" The manservant began to speak but before he could even get the first word out Shion announced that he would clean up the wound and told Korou to leave. As the prince brushed past him, Korou turned to follow along. He walked into the bathroom with Shion, ignoring any protests the prince might make, and grabbed him by the wrist so that he could see the injured hand. "My apologies prince Shion, but I can't do that. If I can't even protect you, then for what purpose am I here?" His voice was gentle as he spoke, eyes fixated upon Shion's injury. "Hold steady, this will hurt." Korou plucked the piece of porcelain from Shion's hand and set it upon the sink counter then examined his hand for any shards. Those he removed as well, using a pair of tweezers he had obtained from one of the bathroom drawers.

As he examined the wound Korou bit his lip and sighed. Shion was so not going to love this.
"Rinse it off while I find some alcohol." It wasn't often that Korou took on such a tone, Shion was his superior after all. But the man servant was more concerned with the proper care of the injury right now than with titles and positions. While he searched, he was listening to see if Shion would follow his command. If he didn't then that just meant Korou would have to take care of that too. After Shion's hand was rinsed off, he opened up the alcohol pad. and began to clean it as best he could. Korou then placed some gauze over the injury and began to wrap it tightly, though not to the point where it would cut off circulation. "That'll do for now, but you may need stitches. Stay here while I clean up and let me know if you start to feel worse...unless you would rather I find Wakako now to look at it."

Although he had given clear orders, the young prince was soon joined in the enormous bathroom. "I told you to leave! Don't touch me!" Shion spat as he struggled against the servants grip. But the words that followed caught him off guard, causing this pulling to cease and his eyes to widen. Any servant who had worked under him would have jumped at the chance to leave him there. No one was reliable and they only cared for the gold that was given as payment for services. And certainly Korou was no different. Shion was no fool, he could hear the forced politeness in the man servant's voice, the fake smiles and the forced kindness; he didn't want to be around the young prince any more than he had to, just like the rest of the castle staff. So why would he say something like that? 'Could it be that he... No. You're all alone, Shion. You know what.' He thought to himself as a voice inside reminded him of his inevitable reality. But the gentleness in his voice...

In his thought's, the young heir didn't hear the servant's warning and cried out when the sharp pottery was pulled from his open flesh. "That hurt, you fool!" He growled, his eyes narrowing as he tried to pull his hand free but to no avail. Instead, he just let his body fall to the ledge surrounding the large tub, wincing as Korou removed any more debris that had imbedded their way into his hand. Mahogany red eyes fell onto the servant's profile. 'Why is he being so gentle? I didn't even know his hands were this soft...' For just a moment, his eyes softened but it only lasted a second. Shion's cheeks tinted a light pink as he realized what he had just been thinking and caught himself staring at the person before him, and quickly diverting his gaze.

Korou's words once again found their way to his ears. 'Ordering me like that! Who does he think he is?!' Shion scoffed inside of his head, standing as his servant left the area to find the cleaning liquid. "I'm rinsing because I don't need blood staining my perfect skin, not because someone like you had advised me to!" Shion growled, walking to the sink and turning the faucet, letting the cold water flow over the gash. Blood quickly stained the perfect white of the sink, bright red mixing with the water as it streamed down the drain. He winced of course. The cold wasn't expected and it caught him off guard. But that was nothing compared to the sting that was about to come. Shion held his hand out to the returning servant.

Once again, he cried out like a child when the liquid came in contact with his skin, bubbles forming along the edges of his wound as the alcohol did it's job. "Ouch..." He muttered, biting his lip. To be honest, Shion couldn't remember the last time he had gotten injured at all. He was always treated like a glass doll all throughout childhood, so even scrapes were treated like the end of the world. Deep red eyes fell upon him once more, watching as he meticulously wrapped his hand and wrist. "You're pretty good at this..." It was an inner thought that slipped though his lips in a tone filled with awe, a compliment that was accidentally spoken though he gave no effort to correct himself. The moment was peaceful as Shion let Korou do what he needed to do, that it, until he mentioned finding Wakako. "No! Don't get him!" The prince barked, his eyes filled with desperation. HIs head fell and his eyes cast to the ground. "He needs to take care of mother... not me." His words were small, but the reverberation of the bathroom made it easy to hear the sadness in his tone.

Korou ignored Shion's struggle, gripping his wrist just a hair tighter to keep the other male from pulling away. After he spoke, however, Shion stopped. Was he stunned into silence? Were his words really that hard to believe? Korou may not always want to be around Shion or approve of his actions, but that didn't mean he wished harm on the prince. Well, not serious harm. There were times when even he wanted to smack Shion around, especially when watching the way he treated people, but that didn't mean he was going to abandon Shion when he was needed. He was here to serve and protect the prince. Korou had been specifically selected to care for Shion. Following the prince's orders was part of his duty, but when obeying conflicted with caring for the prince's well-being it should have been obvious which one he would choose. Despite Shion's usual attitude toward him and the other servants, Korou did care about him and his safety. He wouldn't be here otherwise. Events such as what had just transpired only served to reinforce for him that Shion had the capacity to care for another, they gave him hope that one day he might show others that side of him.

The manservant had expected the cry, but when Shion growled at him he couldn't help the retort which fell from his lips.
"Did you expect it to tickle?" There wasn't malice in his voice, but there was some amount of sarcasm. The whole reason Korou had warned him was because he knew it would be painful. His eyes never left Shon's hand though and the manservant worked quickly but thoroughly to remove everything else which remained. It wasn't until a few moments later that Korou realized his little slip but by that time it was too late to take it back. "My apologies again, for my words and the pain. I should not have said what I did." Was all he could do today apologize? It certainly seemed that way. Shion was bound to holler at him for that comment too. 'Be polite.' Korou reminded himself. He was supposed to remain polite in the prince's presence.

A moment later when he was searching for the alcohol to clean Shion's injury with, Korou heard him call out a reason for rinsing his hand and smiled. As long as the prince did as he requested, that was what mattered. Korou returned with the alcohol just as Shion finished rinsing his hand. He took hold of Shion's wrist once more and poured the cleaning liquid over it. He smiled apologetically after hearing Shion.
"I'm sorry, but bear with it. It's better than getting an infection later." After the bubbling had settled, Korou took a closer look then poured some more of the rubbing alcohol over the wound. He continued to wait and then pour more until no more bubbles appeared after the addition of liquid. Once he was certain that the injury was clean he dabbed it with a gauze pad to dry it then went about with wrapping it up. It might not have been the work of a doctor, but it was the best Korou could manage with the experience he had. He smiled lightly at Shion's compliment. "Thank you, my prince. I've had a fair amount of experience." He didn't mention that the experience came from caring for himself after sessions with his father, but that didn't exactly seem relevant to the conversation...and it wasn't something Shion needed to know. His skills had assisted the prince and that's what was important.

A moment later Korou found himself taken back by Shion's immediate refusal. Was Shion worried about getting stitches? Or was it because of his mother? The manservant turned back to his prince after the outburst, gaze roaming his person to try and determine what the reason was. This observation was unnecessary for Shion soon voiced his reasoning though. Korou sighed softly at the response and shook his head but a small smile touched his lips. He would do anything for her, wouldn't he? The male turned back to Shion and wrapped one arm around the boy, resting his hand on the back of Shion's head as he pulled him close.
"I will wait then. So long as you promise to call for me if your condition worsens, I will wait. I will find and bring him after I finish restoring order to your room though. He needs to care for both of you, prince Shion, not just your mother." He waited but a moment more before releasing his hold on the younger male and turning so that he could head back into Shion's room and clean it. As it was, the prince's bedroom could be qualified a disaster zone. It was unsafe for the very being it was meant to house.

Shion was taken aback at the way Korou had retorted to him. His eyes were wide as he looked down at him, mouth wide but no words had come from his gaping jaw. 'Did he really just... speak to me like that?" The prince couldn't believe it. But before he could say anything, the servant apologized. Blinking back to reality, Shion just shrugged. "Yeah. I guess you are sorry." His voice was quiet as he responded. And the apologies only continued as he cleaned the wound. "Can you do anything other than apologize, boy." He scoffed, his eyes returning to their previous harsh glare as he turned his head away. It was such an odd insult, considering that the man-servant was older than the young prince. When Korou thanked him for the compliment, Shion almost regretted saying it, lest the servant expect him to be kind on a normal basis. But what followed the kind words only piqued his curiosity. He knew that his servant was assigned to him and him alone, and he wasn't part of the medical staff. So how would he have much experience on such matters as mending wounds and wrapping bandages?

In his thoughts, Shion once again was thrown off by the way Korou acted, pulling his head of silver hair against his body. And in response, his back grew rigid and he froze. 'What is he doing?! He's touching me?! ...His hand is so big and warm...' Shion's heart felt as if it were going to burst from his chest and his face felt as if he was running a fever. Even his ears were red. And right before he thought he couldn't take it another moment, the man let go of his head and walked away. Red eyes watched as he escaped the bathroom, leaving the prince to sit of the bath's edge with his mind racing. What was going on? Why was Korou so concerned for him? Shion made his life living hell, ordering him around and verbally assaulting him on a daily basis. Any one in his position wouldn't care if the young heir had fallen to his death. So what was it that made the young man concerned about him?

And further more, why was he being so gentle? All of this just made Shion... want to know more about him? Could that be it? He pushed himself off the ledge and walked to the sink, running the water and splashing his face with cool water to try and cool himself down. 'I guess I should... thank him.' He spent a good moment staring at himself in the mirror, willing himself to go. After a while, he slammed his fist against the counter and growled at himself, turning and leaving the bathroom and joined Korou in his bedroom. Shion watched him from a distance for a moment, crossing his arms and leaning against the wall. Completely silent. Taking a breath, he stepped forward. "It's going to take forever if you go that slow." He breathed, stepping to a table that he had flipped earlier and pulling it back up to it's standing position, avoiding eye contact.

Korou was somewhat surprised at how easily Shion let the matter go but he wasn't about to jinx it by making a comment. His eyes were mostly hidden from Shion's gaze as well due to where he was looking. A smile touched his lips and he chuckled slightly at hearing Shion's next words. "Apparently not, my prince. Some of us are quite prone to mistakes, after all." His words weren't meant as an insult to the prince in any way, merely a comment made in jest. He knew very well how much effort Shion put into those tasks he was required to perform. Besides, despite his dislike of the city and certain classes, Korou knew he tried a great deal and had to put up with even more due to the court society. He had grown up close to it, but there was much about it which he did not know, nor did he want to. It was a dark world from what he had seen, filled with numerous enemies and few, if any, allies. Even smaller was the amount of people who could be considered 'friends' or 'trusted.'

He felt the way Shion went stiff at his touch, but didn't release him immediately. No, not until he had spoken...besides Shion could have shoved him away if he truly wanted to be released. In fact, Korou suspected that that was exactly what would have happened if he hadn't released the prince. He wasn't sure why he was showing Shion this side to himself either, maybe because of the way he usually acted? On an average day the prince just made it so easy for Korou to keep up his little facade of emotionlessness. It wasn't that he didn't want the prince to know, but given how Shion normally treated him it was easier to disguise his emotions...and the ones that would usually surface at those times were not the same as what he was displaying now. Something about Shion today though...Korou had seen a whole new side to his master, he'd seen a child who loved so much. One that was hurt because of him. Hopefully, the queen would recover quickly so that Shion could see her again. Maybe he could even help at the times when he wasn't by Shion's side.

Once he had entered the bedroom, Korou began by cleaning up all of the shards from the vases Shion had hurled as well as any other sharp objects which had ended up on the floor due to the prince's fit. It was a slow process, but the manservant wanted to be sure that he had picked up every single piece so that Shion wouldn't be injured again. As he went about cleaning the room, his thoughts drifted back to Shion and his mother, wondering what he could do to help out. It wasn't like Shion needed to know either, but imagining the mood it would put the prince in to be able to see his mother again made the blue-haired male smile. Korou was so enraptured by his thoughts that he hadn't even noticed when Shion entered the room or felt the prince staring at him. It wasn't until Shion spoke that his gaze shifted from the task at hand and to the owner of that all too familiar voice. The way he spoke was so very much like he would on any given day, but the actions which followed his words stunned Korou to no end. Shion was actually helping him? Was this some sort of dream? The manservant pinched his arm just to make sure, a small smile appearing upon his features.
"Thank you, prince Shion." Words spoken in a gentle voice as he continued to clean up. The help was appreciated and, though part of him said he should turn it down, Korou couldn't help but be happy that Shion was helping him. Even if the prince returned to his usual attitude tomorrow, Korou wouldn't forget this any time soon. He did pick up his pace a little though, he didn't want to make Shion do too much. Plus, he needed to be careful with his injured hand.

After pulling the table up, the prince turned his head to look at the servant sitting on the ground picking up shattered porcelain. And what he saw made him stop in his tracks. Did Korou just smile at him? Why? 'He has a nice smile. What, what?!' Shion quickly turned his body and kept cleaning as he went, hiding his pink face from the manservant. "I'm not doing it for you so don't thank me" The prince snapped at at the servitor, his eyes sharp as he flipped the tablecloth into the air and watched it fall onto the cherry wood surface. 'Why am I even doing this? Caring for me and cleaning are his duties and I owe him nothing.' Shion's mind was struggling with itself as his hands struggled to even the large satin cloth. No matter how he pulled the fabric, it didn't seem even to him. Giving up, he went to pick up the various pillows he had thrown across the room and placed them back onto the couch and armchair. They didn't seem to look right where he had placed them onto the seats.

Shion growled as his legs carried him back to look at the positions of the pillows. "How do you even do this?" He growled loudly, kicking another pillow on the ground against the couch and plopping down on an armchair, using his injury-free hand to massage his neck and letting the other rest against his long leg. All of the days stress was making his shoulders sore. Sitting there alone, with the exception of Korou flitting around cleaning, he allowed himself to slouch, an occurrence that was rare even when he was alone. Proper posture was key in being a prince and slouching even for small amounts of time made it easy for it to become habit. His mind took him over and dragged him back to the days events. This was the first time he had seen his mother in such a condition; and it terrified him more than anything.

After Shion turned away, rather quickly too, Korou returned to his current task. And then Shion snapped at him again and the man sighed. Well, why was Shion doing it then? Because he was confusing the hell out of Korou with his wanton attitude today. Shaking himself mentally, the manservant rose to his feet and discarded the pieces of porcelain he had gathered into the trash then moved on to pick up some of the other items which Shion had hurled during his rampage. The procedure wasn't all that difficult to him since he had done such things before, though this was possibly one of the worst results from one of Shion's rampages. As he cleaned, Korou could hear Shion struggle with the tablecloth. He glanced over in time to see the prince had given up on it and moved to picking up the pillows which were strewn about. He chuckled inwardly at the sight. Tasks which were so simple for him had seemed to have stumped Shion. It was quite amusing.

His eyes shifted to Shion once more as he righted another table and repositioned the satin cloth.
'How? With patience, of course. Pick up and return each object to its place. Discard anything that was beyond the point of saving. It was so simple. He'd been cleaning since he was a child. Then again Shion was no ordinary child, he was the prince. He had probably never cleaned his room before in his life. "It requires much practice, my prince." He replied instead, knowing better than to say something which would offend Shion. The room began to look more and more like it should as Korou moved about. He righted the chairs Shion had attacked and even picked up those things which were leftover from their morning encounter.

Silence fell between them for a time and, before he knew it, Korou spoke again. A question this time.
"What was your mother like, prince Shion?" He hadn't actually started coming to the castle until he was about four, and even then his time was taken up by lessons or helping out. He had never actually met the queen, only crossed her room in passing or delivered flowers and the like at Shion's request. Normally, Korou wasn't one to pry but Shion seemed different today so maybe it would be alright for him to inquire. And he wanted to know what it was about the woman that made Shion love her so dearly. Certainly, there was the expected bond between parent and child, but was that all? The prince didn't have the same attitude towards his father so there had to be something more. Besides, there was nothing wrong with asking a question...right?

Shion snapped his head to Korou as he asked such a taboo question, anger blatantly obvious in his glare. The prince had half a mind to rip into the young servant but through the days events, he just didn't have the energy for it. He leaned back against the back of the seat and exhaled, letting his head fall back. "I honestly don't know." He sighed, shrugging slightly. "She had gotten ill during her labor with me, so much so that she wasn't able to hold me after I was born. I was raised by wet nurses and maids. I have never seen her healthy. Hell, I haven't even heard her voice..." His voice was quiet and his tone seemed oddly detached from the situation. "She has never looked at me on her own or held me. I've never heard her call my name. But... even though she knew the risks of going through with her pregnancy, she loved me enough to risk it all. How could I not cherish a woman who risked it all for me?" Shion lifted his head and looked to Korou, their eyes locking instantly.

Silence swallowed them as he watched his servant before smirking and chuckling. "I assume that's not what you meant. From what the older staff and my care givers told me, she was very gentle. Everyone loved her, even the people down below." He motioned to the balcony overlooking the expanse oh the kingdom. "She was the highlight of my family's royal balls and our kingdom's most successful ambassador. She had the ability to look past what was on the surface and see a person's true self." Shion unintentionally began smiling as he spoke. In his eyes, his mother was his image of perfection; and she was an image that would be unobtainable for him to be part of.

Once again, Shion looked to his servant. "What about you?" It was such a strange question for the prince to ask, but he figured it was appropriate since he let the man delve into his private life. "What about your family? Any siblings?" It felt weird to ask such things for the prince who had never been curious about anyone's life but his own. As he waited, he leaned forward and propped his arms on his knees and rested his chin on the back of his hands, long strands of silver hair falling into his face.

Surprise flickered across Korou's features at the sudden change in Shion's attitude. 'Ah hell, now I've done it.' He could tell from the look in Shion's eyes that this was a more touchy subject than he had originally thought. That glare of Shion's almost made him feel like the prince would skin him alive for even mentioning the queen, almost. Instead, however, Shion leaned back against the seat and began to speak. A frown crept onto his face as he listened, Korou new the queen had been sickly for quite a while, but to not even be able to hold her son? To not look or hold him? He wondered for a moment if, within her consciousness, the queen actually wanted to do these things and if it was her body that stopped her. His gaze softened at the other male's next bit of information. It was a wonderful thought, especially if it was true, but the devil's advocate within him wondered if perhaps she did it to supply the kingdom with an heir. Korou dared not voice such a thought though.

Sympathy would be portrayed in his eyes when they met, a small smile on his lips. The man was speechless. Really, what could he say? I'm sorry that your mother is so sick? That you haven't actually been able to have a relationship with her? He could understand where Shion's devotion to the woman came from now, and the thought of Shion ever losing her caused Korou to shiver. If that happened, he was sure that Shion would make his and any other employee's life a living hell, well...more than he already did. In turn, he also wondered how Shion would have turned out if his mother had been healthy and taking care of him. Would she have kept him in line? Reprimanded him when he acted cruelly towards those around him? Perhaps they would find out if she ever got better.

Korou hadn't even realized that he had stopped picking things up until the silence fell and Shion kept his gaze on him. Awkwardly, he started to move again to finish picking up and setting right the last of Shion's mess. A moment longer and the prince chuckled before speaking again. He was right, that wasn't the response Korou had expected but he wasn't about to pry further after that glare. If Shion volunteered the information, however, that was another story. His gaze shifted to the balcony when the prince motioned towards it then back to Shion. He wasn't fond of the way Shion referred to them, 'subjects' would have been fine but the way the prince had said it made it sound as though they were below him. Although, Korou did know that was how Shion felt about them, he was the prince and they were commoners.

He wondered a bit as Shion spoke of the queen, honestly she sounded too good to be true, but kept such thoughts to himself. If that was really the case, he would have loved to have known her. He noted the smile on the other male's features as he spoke of his mother, he seemed to adore her a great deal. Now, if only he would seek to model her image everything would go wonderfully for himself and the rest of the castle servants. That was normal when you admired someone, wasn't it? Seeking to be like them.

Korou was a bit surprised when Shion asked about his own family, though perhaps it was to be expected considering his own question. He smiled lightly when thinking of his siblings and nodded.
"I have an older brother and younger brother and sister. My older brother is serving with father in the guard, he's a born leader and he's always been gifted when it comes to weapons. My younger siblings stay home with my mother most days. They're quite sweet, but can be troublesome at times due to their energy. Mother is kind, but she won't stand for any sort of negative behavior." He didn't really say much of is father, unsure of what to tell Shion. The two didn't have a wonderful relationship and there was a lot more bad than good which he could say.

Shion noticed the looked Korou had been giving as he spoke. They shifted between what he guessed was pity and something else, probably humor at the prince's expense. It was nothing unexpected. He didn't expect the servant to understand what he was saying, so such reactions were nothing short of anticipated. But as He finished and Korou answered his own question of his serf's familial status, he listened closer than one would have expected of him as his servant described his kin. They seemed so... complete in his mind. A strong father, siblings, and a well mother who was a main part of her children's lives. He could almost imagine the look in Korou's mother's eyes, much like the nurses who raised him but more... sincere, was the word? Genuine perhaps? 'Must be nice...' He whispered without thinking. Imagining such a thing filled the young heir with a sharp pain in his chest, something he could not understand.

Abruptly, he stood up and turned from the prying eyes of his company. 'Change the subject.' His mind commanded sharply to itself as he struggled with finding a new topic. "What is it like down there?" A simple question but something he had been a bit curious of for some time. He had only gone through the highest tiers of the city, only out of necessity. Anything below the aristocratic sectors were beyond his knowledge. As he pondered the very question he just asked aloud, his legs carried him over to the balcony doors. His hands lingered at the golden handles for just a moment before falling back to his sides, deciding against leaving the comfort of his room. Instead, he let his auburn eyes scan the lower levels of his kingdom from the safety of the shadows of his bedroom much like a scared child.

Korou shrugged his shoulders in response to the prince's comment but smiled lightly as well. He'd come closer to Shion as he straightened up the last of the things in the prince's room, which allowed him to hear the soft words the prince spoke. "I suppose so. We have our off days, but mother makes most of them better." Most days. If his father really tried, he could ruin Korou's entire day to the point that nothing would fix it. Those days had lessened, however, since he had become Shion's personal servant since he was not around the man as much now. Serving Shion was a blessing and a curse. Korou wasn't forced to face his father as often but he was left dealing with Shion's attitude and tantrums when they occurred.

He arched a brow when Shion suddenly shot up. Was it something he had said? No, that couldn't be it...could it? The prince's next inquiry caught Korou off guard. Shion actually wanted to know what it was like? The man who refused to venture into the lower levels was curious as to what they were like? Attempting to help clean-up, asking about his family, and now this? Something had to be wrong...maybe Shion had a fever or something of the sort? He pondered the question for a moment before starting to respond.
"It is a bit different from what you have encountered on your visits, and for obvious reason. The people are pleasant but some are a bit rougher around the edges than others. It's almost like a different world compared to this. The atmosphere isn't as stiff and people are more willing to speak their mind. Well, so long as they aren't in the presence of someone such as yourself, that would cause a bit of hesitance."

He observed Shion from a distance and wondered what might happen if Shion actually did venture into the lower levels of his kingdom. It would certainly be a new experience on the prince's part and Korou imagined it might be, at least a little bit, entertaining to watch. "The best way to know would be to visit it yourself though, my prince. There is much to experience and only a fraction of that can be put into words." His eyes fixated on Shion's hand and he frowned. "I really must be going though. You're room has been restored to order and I must find Wakako so he can take a look at your hand." He could just imagine the mood Shion would be in if his hand got worse. Korou was no expert and he would much rather have Wakako look at it and decide Shion was fine than go without and find that the injury required stitches or some such thing. Korou bowed to Shion in an effort to dismiss himself and walked towards the door so that he could locate the doctor.

The servant came closer to the prince as he finished straightening up the massive disaster resulted from the young heir's temper tantrum. 'Mother makes most of them better...' He thought on that statement long and hard. What would she do to make horrid days better? Further more, how would she do it? She was no queen, so ordering custom play things from far off lands would be out of the question, as would banishing those who would upset her children in the first place. The thought of one woman doing what Korou insinuated seemed so alien to Shion. So much so, that he just opted not to believe it as truth. And Korou's next choice in words with describing the lives of those outside of the kingdom made his skepticism rise. "A different world, huh..." He repeated the words of his help, his narrowing eyes cast back down to the city below as the rest of Korou's words ran though his mind at a mile a second. But when he suggested making a trip down below the higher levels, a small chuckle escaped his pale lips. "A young prince who had never been outside the castle walls exploring a city he has never seen... That would be fun to watch, eh Korou?" He rolled his eyes in spiteful humor as his servant turned to leave the room, mentioning the doctor's name once more.

Shion's smirk dropped yet again. Making no attempt to turn from his place beside the balcony door or even turn his head towards Korou, his tone became deadly low and flat. "Don't bother. Let him tend to mother. My hand will be alright." That was the end of that because this wasn't just the prince brushing it off, it was him giving him an order. And Korou knew better than to disobey an order. He stood there, just like that, until he heard the click of the door latching behind him, a sure sign that he had left his quarters. And with that click, his shoulders relaxed and he let out a massive sigh, rolling his neck and letting it crack. Upon lifting it's head to it's previous position, his eye fell back onto the city below him and the expanse of valley land before it met the endless stretch of blue. His auburn eyes stared for who knows how long out that window until his hands reached forward and gripped the handles tightly. He had never opened those doors before, only maids did while he was out to get fresh air into the bedroom or to air out rugs. He took in a deep breath and hung his head. 'One... Two...' He closed his eyes and thrust the doors back.

Warm air dragged along his skin as the salty crispness of the sea breeze pushed it's way into his bedroom. The sound of seabirds echoed through the air and the dampened bustle of the townsfolk below. The smell and the warmth was nice... comforting even, while sounds piqued his interest. It was to bright for him to go out onto the balcony right now, seeing how ,even though the late-day sun wasn't too bright at the moment, it would irritate his eyes if he didn't adjust them properly. And even so, just looking down from his room wouldn't quench his curiosity. Shion looked to his left, into the sitting area to read the grand clock that was ticking lightly. It was almost time for dinner.

He already had a plan. Once dinner was done, he would leave the walls just for a bit. The third level wasn't too far and wouldn't be too hard on him since it was right below the castle. All he had to do was make sure no one would see. He didn't need Korou to make fun of him for wanting to go down, especially after today...
