Her world was fading in and out of focus. She was going to start having a seizure. She almost succomed to it if not for Sebastian's sudden shout of her name. She hugged him, shaking, but in an attempt to stop her world from spinning. She was breathing heavy so only nodded at his asking if she was listening to him.

She wrapped her arms around his torso, and he could feel the deep, uneven rise and fall of her panicked gulps of breath, and the shivering in her whole body. His own heart beating quickly in the fear of her panic, his arms went around her shoulders and he held her close, tight, and bent his head over the top of hers, wrapping her small body in his tall protective presence, without a care in the world of what this might look like to the rest of the men.

"It's okay, Shasta," he murmured into her hair. "You're okay. You don't need the pipe. You have me. All right? I'm here. I'm protecting you." He stroked the long strands of hair, from the back of her head down between her shoulder blades, back to her head, to her shoulders, a soothing rhythm. "Just breathe, sweeting, just breathe. In and out. There you go."

Somehow, holding her in his arms, protecting her from the world around them, gave him a sense of satisfaction, a feeling of calm and warmth, and he slid his arms just slightly tighter around her slim shoulders, his slowing heartbeat resonating in his ribs beneath her ear. "Don't let go of me, sweeting. I'm here with you."

She felt him suddenly engulf her in a cocoon of warmth. Her head was resting on his chest, hearing his own erratic heartbeat. She fought to calm down, only catching a few parts of what he was saying. "...... Don't need the pipe....me.... I'm here. I'm protecting you." those words struck something with her, something comforting and safe, something she hadn't felt in such a long time. At his urging she began to control her breathing hearing his heart start to calm down and her own following in suit. Her shivering disappeared as she was still holding onto him. "Don't let go of me, sweeting. I'm here with you," she nods feeling herself finally calm, not just from the panic of losing her pipe but from the ordeal on deck. "Thank you Sebastian," she says softly

Sebastian felt the tension slowly leave her as her breathing regulated, the shivering stopped, and her whole body seemed to relax. His only response to her soft word of gratitude was a nod into her hair, and he held on to her for a moment longer, just to make sure she really was okay, to give her that extra little bit of strength; then he squeezed her briefly, encouragingly, and pulled away just enough to search her emerald green eyes. "You're sure you're all right now?" he asked in quiet concern.

She was tempted to say no. She liked his embrace, it was warm, comforting, safe. But she couldn't do that, he fought hard and needed to rest as soon as he could, and that would be after everyone else was seen to, "yes... Thank you," she said nodding. "I think... It's safe to say I'm not Indian... That fight... I felt right at home in the middle of that," she added

He was quiet, nothing that he could say coming to mind. She was right, that display of confidence and cocky piratical arrogance had seemed to throw a wrench in their knowledge - idea, now - of who and what she was. While these "Indians" she spoke of could very well be competent fighters, Sebastian himself knew that fighting on land and fighting on water were two slightly different concepts, and just because you'd mastered one didn't necessarily mean you'd mastered the other. So, then, who was she?

He felt like he'd been keenly staring into her eyes in silence for far too long now, and he suddenly blinked and looked away, releasing her shoulders and stepping back. "You saved Luka's life, though," he replied gratefully. "And mine. Thank you." He bent shallowly at the waist in a small bow, one that seemed rather stiff as opposed to his usual lithe fluidity. "If you're not hurt, you may rest if you wish. God knows you deserve it." He shot her a grateful smile, and he hoped he didn't appear as lightheaded as he was beginning to feel; in truth, his face had turned a shade paler, and he quickly turned away, returning to his task of seeing to his men and his ship.

"wait are you alright? You're really pale," she said having noticed how rigid he was and pale he had become.

Pausing and looking back over his shoulder, he smiled and waved away the inquiry. "I'm fine. Just tired, is all, as we all are. Go and rest, Shasta." And he turned again and walked away.

All his slain crew members were accounted for and identified, wrapped ceremonially in canvas readied for proper seagoing burials. Even the bodies of the attacking pirates were to be dealt with respectfully, as was Sebastian's standard policy and his crew knew it, although they never wasted good canvas on them. His crewmen were handling that aspect well and all was taken care of; satisfied with the progress, Sebastian moved on, fighting the urge to grasp his side and sink to the deck. Thankfully, the tense lines in his face and the tightly clenched jaw could very well be attributed to the general situation.

Tyelar and Damian were busy with the three other powder monkeys to mop the bloodstained deck. They needed no assistance there.

He went down and poked his head into the surgery; Drayven and his surgical assistants were hard at work in the surgery.

Coming back out to the deck, he supposed he could have helped mend some sails torn by sailing cannonballs. But, his right hand straying across to his right side, he decided that no, he couldn't climb the rigging, and he was not up to braving the heights today. After asking a passing sailor to send Drayven to his cabin when he was no longer busy, Sebastian returned to his room, his head foggy and the world slightly swaying, his side burning like the depths of hell, and completely ready to keel over.

The pirate's body had thankfully been taken away and the floor scrubbed spotless, and indeed Sebastian hadn't even an inkling that the body had once been there. Good thing, too, for if he had had to wait for the body to be disposed of, well, he simply could not have. As soon as the door clicked shut behind him, Sebastian fell back against it and with a sigh that was nearly a groan, he clutched at his side, and his back slid down the thick wooden door until his bottom hit the floor, and there he slumped, sweat shining on his forehead and sticking his violet hair to his skin. His chin slumped against his chest, his breathing ragged and uneven against the burning, raging pain he'd worked so hard to cover for the last hour and a half.

His clothing was soaked and spattered with old, drying, brown blood, but spreading across his side was very fresh, very red blood indeed, and a great amount of it. Sometime during the fight, he'd taken a bullet to the left side of his waist, and he hadn't the slightest idea if it was still embedded in his flesh or not but god damn, it hurt.

Shasta didn't buy it. All ship captains were stubborn. And he looked as if he was hurting... Badly.she observed him till she saw him head into his cabin. She knew the cabin had a small medical kit that was fully stocked. She decided then to head over, he had helped her back away from the edge of a seizure, the very least she could do was help him with his injuries, which she was sure he had now. She knocked on the door. "sebastian... At least let me help you with your wounds," she says trying to open the door, she realized he must have been leaning his weight against the door since she could lift the latch easily.

He had feebly pulled at the loose, formerly white shirt he was wearing from the waistband of his black breeches and tried to lift it to get a look at his injury, but the material was glued to his skin with the congealing blood and it hurt too much to rip it away, so he gave up, closing his eyes and letting his head fall against the door behind him with a soft thunk. "Drayven," he whispered. "Where are ya, old Dray? You're Captain... needs you. You old fart."

As if in answer, he felt the door push against him slightly and he gasped in new pain as he was bent forward an inch that felt like ten knots. "Dray?" His call came out only as a strangled murmur, the volume of which would never make it through the door. He heard a muffled voice in response, but it wasn't his surgeon. Feminine. His lovely little friend, Shasta. He didn't want her to see him like this. He didn't want her to worry. He was supposed to protect her.

But he needed help, desperately.

He gave a small grunt of consent, gritted his teeth, and made to shuffle out of the way. A sound of pain escaped his pale lips as he moved to the right a little bit, and a little bit more. Laboriously he dragged himself along, but it was hardly half a minute before he knew he couldn't do it; the world spun, he swayed forward once, fighting to keep upright and awake, but there was a definite thud as he was forced to let go of precious consciousness, and toppled sideways to the floor.

Shasta heard movement and tried again, managing to get it open wide enough for her to slip in. She gasped seeing him bleeding and unconscious on the floor. She checked his breathing and was relieved he wasn't dead. She looked to see where the blood was coming from. She quickly laid him on his other side and quickly pulled the cloth of his shirt off seeing the bullet was still in there. "you idiot... You're lucky it's not worse," she said now pulling the bullet out and stitching up his side while he was still unconscious. She bandaged it up but knew she wouldn't be strong enough to lift him to the bed. Drayven would come soon and he could help her. She wet a cloth and began wiping away the dried blood on his face, pushing some hair back

Sebastian didn't move a muscle while she performed emergency surgery there on the cabin floor; his eyelids flickered open once and a quiet groan of pain escaped him while she rooted around in his flesh for the little piece of intruding metal, but after that there was nothing but his shallow, laborious breathing.

It was a few moments later that Drayven finally arrived, knocking before opening the door and pushing it open; the door however bumped into Sebastian's legs. Drayven poked his head into the cabin and looked down to see what impeded his progress, and his wrinkled eyes widened at the sight of Sebastian unconscious and bandaged on the floor, his bloodsoaked shirt discarded nearby. Managing to hurriedly sidle through the opening, trying not to disturb the injured young man's body, Drayven knelt down across from Shasta, his fingers instantly seeking out the pulse in Sebastian's neck and then flying all over his body, checking for any more of even the slightest of injuries.

Finally he muttered, still busy assessing Shasta's bandaging handiwork, "Go bring the nearest sailor in here and we'll get him into bed."

Shasta nodded letting Drayven take the lead. She went out and found Jasper. "Jasper, Drayven needs your help for a moment," she says after getting his attention.

Partying Streaker

Jasper had one foot up on a rope, ready to climb up into the rigging to help with repairing a torn sail when he was stopped by a female voice, and he turned his head to see Shasta standing there looking slightly desperate and antsy. At her words, the boy looked from her up at the group of men hanging in the rigging inspecting the canvas sail, then back at Shasta, trying to prioritize. But of course if Drayven needed help, it was more important than a sail which ten other men were already working on.

He nodded and lowered his boot to the deck again. "All right. What's he need?"

She felt bad for pulling the boy from his task but Drayven had told her to grab the nearest sailor. "He needs you to help him move the captain to his bed. He went unconscious from a wound and just needs to rest and let it heal," she said to him.
