There are many legends of Chinese zodiac. The most widespread story tells of how the Jade Emperor decreed that the animal spirits will help humans to bring order to the passing of time. He held a race and the first twelve animals to arrive in a timely fashion would be worthy of this task. The cat and rat were once friends and made an agreement to wake each other on the day of the race, but somehow the rat woke and went ahead of the cat.
On the way, the rat thought of a good idea. He made the kind ox carry him on condition that he sang for the ox. The ox and the rat arrived before all others. The ox saw that none else had arrived and trotted toward the finish line, but with a hop the rat landed in front of him! By the time the cat awoke, the race was over.
There are different editions of this story. Some say it was the Yellow Emperor who intended to select twelve guards. Some say the animals had a swimming race. All of these were fabricated lies; tales corrupted by the passing of time and the imaginations of the human mind. The zodiacs these stories told of were not mere animals but demons. Let us start from the beginning:
Once upon a time when demons still roamed widely, a deity also known as the Jade Emperor descended from the heavens. Everywhere he went, he was worshiped but he also bore responsibilities. Many people sought his help and he obliged. As time went by, the Jade Emperor began to see that mortals were selfish and ungrateful, because they blamed him for their problems. Most of them were greedy, praying at his shrine only when they coveted something. Even fewer remembered to thank him. Despite being surrounded by humans, the Jade Emperor felt lonely and he left his shrine. During his journey, he came across thirteen different demons on different occasions. They attacked the Jade Emperor because he aided the humans who destroyed their demonic kind out of fear and prejudice.
One after another, the Jade Emperor defeated these demons but instead of killing them, he created a contract that they should serve him, and only him, for all eternity. He did not want them to love anyone else but him. They belonged to him and only him. They became his obsession. All of the demons were grateful that the Jade Emperor had been merciful...all except for one. The cat demon loathed serving under anyone but his best friend, the rat, had obliged. It wasn't long before the cat opposed the Jade Emperor thinking that the rat would follow suit, but he did not. Angered by the betrayal, the cat vowed revenge on all of them.
The cat offered them an ambrosia drink (that was mixed with poison) as a peace treaty and they drank. Grieved that he had poisoned the rat, the cat drank it as well. However, instead of dying, the spirits became weaker and could no longer exist in the human world without a host body. They descended on the nearest tribe of humans and were reborn multiple times within the Sohma family. Despite it all, nothing was stronger than the contract made between the deity and thirteen zodiacs. Time passed, life went on. Demons were exterminated one by one, cleansed, or sealed. The demons that remained returned to the very realm they originated from. The cultivation of logic and science replaced beliefs. No longer empowered by worship from the people, the Jade Emperor's spirit weakened and his life span grew shorter. He was at risk of disappearing forever. The only thing that kept him from disappearing were his loyal zodiac servants. They were the reason he continued to exist but coexisting in a world together with humans was growing difficult. Humans did not believe in demons and the ones that did assumed that they should be exterminated.
With their time in the mortal realm running out, they had no choice but to return to their ancestral home using a portal that opened once every few centuries. Earth was a poisoned realm that demons could not exist in unless they possessed a human host. In the demon realm however, the zodiacs are not only free to hug someone of the opposite gender but could recuperate from the poison and regain their natural demonic powers. How will they adapt being in the demonic world after having lived in the human world for so long? They no longer have to worry about being exposed as a demon. Instead, other demons may try to consume them to become stronger! They will all soon learn just how differently things are run in this realm.

Don't go ahead and do it then put in the OOC "well i can edit it later" because this sort of stuff is what causes confusion, a peeved rper, and a bunch of editing. It's a domino effect that could be prevented so lets all prevent this. We have an OOC...use it...we have pms...use it.You play your character and let them play theirs!

Also known as Earth, this world is populated by humans though there are occasions where weaker demons are small enough to fit through the portal gate. Another possible way to return to Earth is if one is summoned by another human but this never ends well. The demons either end up trapped in the void or attempts to posses the summoner so they may live on earth.

There are some humans capable of astro projection while in REM, and are at risk for demonic attacks if a bad spirit happens to be nearby. One must always keep their guard up if they do not wish to be consumed for their power. Time works differently here. One day could mean a hundred years on earth has passed.

Don't bother trying to pay these demons off with something useless such things as human currency. Though, you may be lucky to bargain with a demon who wishes for gold or something from the human world. Most demons hunger for power, longevity, youth. A demon's body naturally ages fast but the aging grows to a halt once they reached a certain age. Everything dies at one point or another, even Gods when people no longer remember nor believe in them. A valued currency in this realm, especially the Redlight District is life. Any demon is capable of taking a few years off a demon's life and adding it to their own as long as they have the other demon's consent. The only other way to take the demon's life years and power is to consume that said demon. Ambrosia is the only way a demon can gain immortality though it is rare for any demon to ever get their hands on it.

Any demon who stays here too long will be consumed by the demonic plants that release pollen to give such side affects. The area is swamped with these demonic plants. Strange things have been happening lately. Even Takami the God isn't sure what to make out of it. The zodiacs have been transforming into their demonic and animal forms at spontanious moments; a troubling symptom of a deeper problem. It is possible that the zodiac spirits are weakening, resulting in an internal war between the demon spirit and its human host body. Its not just physical stability plaguing them and the zodiacs are beginning to feel emotionally unbalanced and volatile as well.
As Takami's followers weaken, so does he. Unable to stand by and watch, the Sohmas head out to Lovell, Wyoming; home of the sacred Bighorn Medicine Wheel where legends of great spiritual magic circulate the area. Behind every legend, there msut be some truth.
Due to the change in climate and altitude, not everyone is well upon arriving at the sacred site. Leaving some of zodiacs behind to rest in their new lodging, Takami leads the rest of the zodiacs around the area in search of answers.

Tch. His human vessel was not use to this type harsh climate. It didn't help one bit that him and the others were suffering from jet lag. Wyoming was about fifteen hours behind Japan. Takami knew it would be in the high 40s but it felt much colder due to the wind. Not only that but physical activity was never a strength of his. He never had to endure in such nonsense. Not when his strengths lied elsewhere. If there wasn't so much to risk, he wouldn't be hiking up Medicine Mountain through the back ways. It would have been so much easier to travel from the front where they would only have to hike two miles in the snow but that option was far more trouble than it was worth. There was a chance one of his zodiacs or a few of his zodiacs would transform into their demonic or animal form. Even though Medicine Mountain was closed to the public due to harsh weather and well the fact it was only open during the summer months, there were still the workers that made sure nobody trespassed. It was better to keep a low profile while in a different country. The last thing they needed to do was stir up some trouble. He didn't need all of his zodiacs for this. At least six would do.
Even though his zodiac spirits were unstable, the Medicine Wheel was a place of great spiritual power. It would boost up their weakened spirituality though the boost would only be temporarily. Once it was time to leave the circle, the spirituality boost would be gone. The god momentarily glanced behind to make sure everyone was accounted for. Some had volunteered to come along and others weren't given much of a choice. Midori was one of the ones he had forced to come along. She was necessary for this trip. Snakes were considered dangerous but major spirit animals when it came to spiritual medicine. He knew she wasn't fit for the cold but she would have to tolerate it for a bit longer. He had made the horse stay behind. The child was far too young to hike up a mountain in this harsh climate. Rei, he had placed in the back so the other could make sure the rest didn't fall behind.
Some, if not all were weary from the hike. It was time to let them rest a bit more. They weren't the only ones weary from the hike. He was a god, full of knowledge and powerful in a spiritual sense. He was never one recreational physical activity. The snow made hiking far more difficult and if it had been possible, he tried to leave those who were terrified of heights behind. This was no place for them, not when they had only come here for answers. Bringing at least six of his zodiacs was the only way. He would have done it alone if he could but their assistance was required. Even if he did choose to do it alone, if there was a way, he doubted a few of his zodiacs would allow him to travel alone. Some would have been rebellious enough to follow him. He did have a few zodiacs that were in the rebellious stage. “We're almost there. We'll rest here for awhile before continuing on.”

- It was cold, but it wasn’t anything he couldn’t handle. Rats were natural-born survivors, accustomed to living in filthy and overcrowded conditions, whereas humans could also fairly hardy when required. A bit of snow and some wind wouldn’t be the end of him. Still, he had worn his cargo jacket. Under normal circumstances, he would have kept himself warm by moving quickly – not to mention it wasted less time – but some of the zodiacs, as well as the God himself, seemed to be exerting themselves. It was exasperating to be moving at such a slow pace, and he could tell he was not the only one thinking it each time he glanced over his shoulder at the Dragon.
Rei was probably not happy where he was, lingering at the back. He was certainly a protective individual, but he was also independent and powerful. It was more likely that he would prefer leading the group alongside Takami. However, with the instability and apparent fragility of their bodies and the demons inside of them, nothing could be predicted. No one could be left behind; not even the ill, useless ones. Especially not them, he imagined the God saying. Stopping to let them rest and having Rei ensure no one fell behind was the very least he would do.
The Rat rubbed his eyes and observed his fellow zodiacs, eventually choosing to talk to an individual who never failed to interest him. “Are you feeling cold, Midori-chan?” he questioned the girl, pulling down his headphones until they were wrapped securely around his neck and resting upon his shoulders. Though Nao wore a straight face, he was inwardly sneering. Poor girl; but as she was an individual that often fluctuated between being a friend and a rival, he wouldn’t be offering his jacket just yet.
Ironically, Takami then stopped and announced that it was time to rest. Nao might have taunted her about how he would be keeping the extra clothing as their bodies cooled down from the walk, but a faint murmur from the Dragon distracted him. He looked towards the Snake and smiled, then slunk away to Rei’s side, where the Dragon had since sat down. The way he was fumbling around in his bag suggested that the Rat had an opportunity at getting a meal, if he played his cards right.
“This had better be worth it,” he commented idly to the man, his eyes leaving Rei’s sitting form and inspecting the landscape instead. “The view’s not really what I was expecting, considering how far we’ve travelled.”
Rei had unwrapped his lunch, something that Nao had not thought of. He had not expected the climb to be so long, and he had honestly been caught off-guard. The Medicine Wheel did have magical significance, but not to the Rat in particular. Maybe Takami had just dragged him along at some attempt at bonding. “Rei-sama,” he started, kneeling in front of the man.
