When Jack's alarm went off, he promptly woke up and stretched; he was so tall that his legs and arms hung right over the arm rests as he did so. Then he stood and stretched his arms over his head before scooping up his phone and heading to the window. The ice-wielder jumped out, closing the window behind him, before heading in the direction of Maeva's shop so that he could pick up Celia for lunch. While the Voodoo Witch and her shop still gave Jack the heebie-jeebies, he'd promised to take his girlfriend out to lunch and he wasn't about to bail on her; besides, it was probably a good thing for Celia to get out of the shop for a few hours too... The thief swooped over the city, catching sight of all the important stuff. Sheera Noctesilvis, aka Nox, sitting on a rooftop, the heroes Lux and Jaeger dealing with a kidnapping situation, and the usual hustle and bustle of London. Even with all of the crime and the super villains who would destroy city blocks every time they showed up, life still went on. As Jack no longer considered himself to be anything close to human - humans couldn't freeze to death and come back to life and function twice as well as they had prior to dying - he found humans to be very fascinating... When he wasn't too busy stealing from them. He took the time to do a little pick-pocketing on his way to the Voodoo Queen's shop, as he was just a little early, and by the time he made it to the shop, he had managed to pick up over a hundred dollars in cash, a couple of expensive necklaces, and some expensive leather wallets that would fetch a pretty nice price. Once at the shop, he landed on a rooftop across from it and stared at the front door. He had no intention of going inside. Maeva had tried to kill him back in LA and had a pretty... Disturbing relationship with Sid, who still hadn't been seen in a while. But that psycho, while not completely brushed from Jack's thoughts, was not what he wanted to think about at this moment. Instead, his thoughts were on how to get Celia to come outside without having to enter that shop... Well, the best way was to make it start snowing outside the window. It wasn't due to start snowing in London for another couple of weeks, so it was sure to catch her attention; Celia always seemed to notice when he made it snow.

It started with just a few perfect flakes spiraling down onto the pavement, which caught the attention of passersby and he noticed Celia glance out the front window of the shop. He had her attention at least. Jack smiled a little, invisible on the adjacent rooftop, and then there was suddenly a blizzard, contained to that one square of sidewalk, the flurry dropping several inches right there. People stared. Some even took pictures, much to Jack's amusement. At any rate, it got the job done and as soon as Celia stepped out the door, the snow stopped. Jack touched down in front of her, shimmering into view, and her smile made him feel pretty good. He held up his hand, a rose materializing in his hand, which he tucked behind her ear before leaning down and giving her a kiss. When he stood upright again, she was blushing an impressive shade of red. "Ready to go?" Jack asked her, smiling a little. When she confirmed that she was, he scooped her up in his arms and jumped into the air, disappearing from sight. Not before several pedestrians snapped pictures of the infamous Jack Frost and his new sweetheart, of course. They didn't talk a whole lot during the flight but they never did; Celia seemed to enjoy the view from above when they flew together and he didn't mind the silence. He landed outside a small cafe a bit out of the city center, which seemed a bit out of place, as it was right next to an office building, but it had plenty of business and when the door opened, warm, comforting smells drifted out on the breeze. Jack opened the door for Celia, allowing her to enter first, and they sat in a small booth in the corner. A friendly waitress came and took their orders before retreating to allow them to converse in semi-privacy. "How's your morning been?" Jack asked her, idly drawing frosted designs on the tabletop with his fingers. They chatted quietly for a few minutes and then, as their food arrived, the whole building shook as though there had been an earthquake. Jack paused in the act of telling Celia what he had planned for the coming winter - there would be a lot of spontaneous snowball wars started in London this year - and looked around, brows creasing in suspicion. London didn't get earthquakes... Everyone in the little cafe had stopped what they were doing and were looking around. Some even peeked outside to see if anyone or anything had been disturbed by the tremor. Something's wrong...

When nothing else happened, most people went back to eating and soon the cafe was full of the sound of chatting and the clink of silverware on plates. Jack, however, couldn't shake the feeling that they should definitely not let their guard down. Earthquakes were not normal in this area... Something bad was going to happen. Sure enough, a few minutes after the tremor, vines broke through the roof of the cafe, barbed with thorns as big as knives and headed directly for every patron who'd arrived with the hope of a decent day... Including Celia. Several of the invasive plants were heading straight for the ashen haired beauty and she looked frozen with fear. s**t. Without a second thought, Jack darted from his seat and spun to face the incoming vines, throwing his staff outwards. The vines were met with a blast of ice and snow and they froze in place, inches from impaling him. The ice-wielder, without a pause, brought his staff down on the frozen vines, shattering them into chunks of green and blue crystal on the floor. There were screams as the rest of the patrons rushed for the door, pursued by more barbed plant life. Jack resisted the urge to sigh. One normal day. Just one. Was that too much to ask for? He reacted just as fast, freezing the hostile vines with blasts of sub-zero air, freezing them in place and shattering them. The patrons didn't even stop to look back; they hit the sidewalk at full speed and took off down the street, away from the buildings being attacked by vicious plant life. As more vines punched holes in the ceiling, aiming for the cause behind their frozen and shattered brethren, Jack froze them in place and then scooped Celia up in his arms, ducking under an attacking vine and darting through the door, freezing it shut the second they were out. The ice-wielder looked over his shoulder to see that the vines that had been intent on catching him had hit the door and frozen upon contact. They'd thaw out but by the time that happened, the plants would likely be dead and not a danger to anyone else. It was then that Jack realized that Celia was clutching his hoodie very tightly, shaking, and that her hands seemed to be heating up. [********]. Jack carefully set her down and disentangled her fingers from his hoodie, pushing her hair back from her face and saying, "Celia, hey, look at me. Everything's okay." She still felt too warm... "Everything's okay, I promise."

He kissed her forehead and enfolded her in a hug, wrapping his long arms around her small form and hugging her close to his body. She clutched his hoodie and buried her head in his chest. They stood there like that for several minutes, Jack feeling her slowly cool back down. Once she was back to a normal temperature, he let go of her and she looked up at him. "Come on, lets get out of her before that b***h decides she's not done wrecking the place... I've got something in mind." He picked her up again and pushed off the ground, becoming invisible just as the twins and Rotor exited the crumbling office building next to the desecrated cafe. Oh that was not going to be good... Jack frowned, knowing that Celia wouldn't be able to see him do so, and knew that he'd have to be ready to go to Rotor's rescue if the signal came through. The one twin was a bit of a fireball and might try to kill his friend once the shock wore off... If that happened, things would get even worse... Jack shoved those thoughts to the side. He'd come to Rotor's rescue if he was needed... Otherwise, his attention was focused solely on Celia. It was a good thing he had contingency plans in place, just in case something did happen to ruin dates and dinner plans. He'd started putting them in place after the appearance of Hana but they worked just as well after the appearance and attack from a crazy villainess. After a couple of minutes, and a stop at what looked to be a bakery, they landed in a small, quaint park that obviously didn't have a lot of foot traffic but was well taken care of. "It's not a cafe but I hope it'll be just as good," said Jack as he set her down on the grass. He took her hand and led her towards the little pond, pausing as they walked to shrug a bag off his back, which had come from the bakery he'd stopped by. Jack released Celia's hand and opened the bag, pulling out a checked blanket, which was spread out upon the grass, and then he gestured for Celia to sit down. Once she had, he pulled out a couple of sandwiches, still warm and made with thick slices of handmade bread, a thermos of lemonade, some fresh fruit, and a small cake that looked to be made specifically for two people (or one, if someone was feeling rebellious). It wasn't what he'd initially planned on doing, so it was a bit lack-luster compared to the delicious food they'd missed out on at the cafe. Jack sat down and picked up one of the sandwiches, which was wrapped in cellophane, and offered it to his date. "Enjoy." He smiled a little, blue eyes twinkling. He just hoped he could make up for what Ivy had ruined... In the back of his mind, he kept alert for any sign that Rotor might need his help.

"I've been around for a long time. My name is Jack Frost. I love being on my own. No rules. No responsibility. It's as good as it sounds."

Amanda prepared for the final strike, closing her eyes, knowing that this was it, the killing blow; when she'd woken up this morning, she hadn't expected to meet Death at the hands of an insane eco-terrorist. But... the final strike never came. There was the sound of jet engines coming to life and then machine-gun fire. She couldn't help but wince at the sound. The brunette opened her eyes, unsure of what she would see... What met her eyes was not what she was expecting. The vine that had been about to impale her was recoiling as it was shot, which was causing Ivy to recoil as well, and by the time she'd regrouped, Riley had landed in front of her... His entire body shifted into a carbon fiber battle suit and he pointed his gun-arm at Ivy. Amanda stared. How could he do that? He was only supposed to be able to shift his body into different materials... "Riley...?" Her voice was too soft to hear. He lifted his left arm up and it shifted into a large bore barrel, which wouldn't have looked out of place on a small tank. “Back the ******** off or I will end you.” he growled at Ivy, his voice gaining some distinctive metallic tones. The accent was gone. The man standing in front of her, protecting her from the eco-terrorist meta, no longer sounded like Riley. “I've got two more bots I can bring in here too, if you really want a party. Leave!” he roared.

Ivy glared at Rotor. She wanted to kill him. She wanted to kill the twins. But she was out-gunned here, quite literally, and as he had turned himself into a suit of battle armor... Her pheromones would have no effect on him. She could put up a fight against him, and do a lot of damage as well, but that was saying that the other twin, the one trussed up like a Christmas chicken, didn't manage to get free and jump back into the fight... Ivy's decision was made for her when the guns that were Rotor's hands cocked; he had no qualms when it came to shooting her. She scowled and then a large flower suddenly swallowed her whole and descended down into the ground. As Ivy left and her influence on the plant life that had taken over the building dimmed, the plants began to retract. They were what had been holding the building up, so as they left, it began to crumble.

The psycho was gone, scared away by the overwhelming force that Riley showed her, and that left the trio in a building that was soon to come down on them all. Amanda just stared at the man who she now knew was not Riley Cooper but the person he'd claimed was out to kill him: Rotor. “This building is going to come down, so yell at me when you two are outside.” He finally turned to look at them and Amanda just stared. His right hand changed into a blade and he cut Tina loose before turning to look at Amanda. “You need help getting out.” Well, he was right about that much... Ivy had totally ******** up her right leg; it was probably completely shattered and there was no way she could walk out under her own power. She couldn't even find the power to speak, so great was the pain. The building shook above them. If they didn't get out fast, they were going to be buried under a mountain of rubble... Before Amanda realized what was going on, Rotor turned his right hand back into battle armor and touched her shoulder. As soon as his hand made contact with her shoulder, his body seemed to fold into itself and spread across her shoulder to form a battle suit around her entire body. She was suddenly not in control of her own movements and found herself standing up just as a robot landed and grabbed Tina, jumping out of the building. Amanda followed, though it was not of her own volition. Jets fired from their backs to slow the descent and they landed on the street below. Tina was released and Rotor pulled away from Amanda, dropping her into Tina's arms. Amanda only stared. She didn't know what to say. What could she say? She'd almost been killed and now it had just been revealed that Riley... Had been a mole within their ranks. They'd trusted him! But he wasn't really a Scottsman any more than he was really Rotor's target... He was Rotor. He and his robot double left the twins on the ground and flew towards the building and each flew to opposite sides of the building. "Tina... Put me down... Put me down dammit!" She was tired of being held and it hurt like hell to have her leg just hanging there. Before her twin could manage this, however, the robot flew in and smashed a load bearing wall on the bottom level; the entire structure dropped down upon itself and Amanda couldn't help but flinch, which caused her to flinch and then yelp as pain flared ever higher in her shattered leg. The Rotorbot landed next to the rubble and simply stood there like a metal statue. Rotor himself landed about ten feet from the twins and turned back into his normal form... Rather the form they knew as Riley Cooper. “I know nothing I can say can make up for this... I lied to you, lied about who I was, lied about everything. Feel free to yell at me, attack me, I deserve it all. I just... thank you for letting me feel like a good guy for once,” he said, unable to meet their eyes. Tina seemed to be in as much shock as her twin was; Amanda knew that her twin would've attempted to behead Rotor otherwise. Amanda herself didn't know what to do. But she knew how she felt... She felt betrayed. Without a thought, she pressed the panic button on her comm. Pain shot through her again. Just the slightest movements jostled her shattered leg. "Get out of my sight." Her voice was too quiet, too hoarse. There was no way he could've heard her... She winced again and he made as though to move towards her. "Get out of here!" It was practically a scream, as pain, betrayal, and anger made their way into her voice. Tina seemed to wake up then and went to go after Rotor, as though to kill him right then and there, but before Amanda could do anything... She passed out from pain, slumping sideways against the concrete.

The ground in her greenhouse trembled and then a flower spiraled out of the dirt, unfurling to allow Ivy to step out. As she walked across the floor of the greenhouse, the plant life that made up her costume spiraled away, falling to the ground and crawling away to find a place to anchor themselves until their mistress needed them again. Chiara wrapped a robe around herself and then knelt in front of the basin in the corner, staring at her reflection in the mirror. The bottom left side of her cheek, neck, shoulder and all the way down to her finger tips was slightly blue in color and patches of her skin looked frostbitten... It wasn't an injury that was going to go away any time soon. How was she supposed to explain this damage? Chiara sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, closing her eyes. Then it hit her: a lab accident. Accidents happened all the time in laboratories... After all, her previous lab had gone up in flames and put her in the hospital for months... Liquid nitrogen or dry ice would both cause substantial damage similar to what she'd sustained... If he, or anyone else, asked why she was using materials like that in a greenhouse... She could say that she was trying to develop a strain of plants that could survive extreme temperatures. It wouldn't be a total lie... She even had notes and sketches in her journal. Chiara sighed and moved away from the mirror, cinching the ties around her waist before sitting on the cot she kept there for her late nights and picking up her phone. What she saw was not what she was expecting... It was a text from Julia, time-stamped at approximately what Chiara would have expected the blond to be done with her meeting with Montoro... And it essentially said that Julia was never going to speak to the Irishwoman again. Her eyes narrowed. Without a doubt, she knew that Francisco Montoro was the reason that Julia had sent that text... And it was time to go figure out what he had done. Chiara stood and pulled a set of clothing out of a small set of boxes at the foot of her cot, each fresh and smelling faintly of roses. She dressed and then looked up at the sunshine streaming in through the greenhouse windows... Her skin took on a green tint and she closed her eyes, the sunlight making her skin glow and her hair gleam like fire. Her injury disappeared... It would be gone long enough for her to do what needed to be done. Ten minutes later, she strode into the London branch of Montoro Inc. as though she belonged there. Anyone who attempted to stop her and ask what she was doing was silenced with a look and a palm held up as she passed. No one, and nothing, was going to stop her. Once inside the elevator, she pulled a card out of her pocket and looked at it. Not much had survived the explosion... She just hoped they hadn't cleared her from the system after the accident. Chiara took a breath and then swiped it... The elevator began to move up to the highest floor, the one that held Francisco's office. The doors to his office were flung open and she strode in, pleased to see him looking quite surprised sitting behind his desk. "What did you do?" snarled the Irishwoman, the doors slamming shut behind her. He asked what she meant. "Don't play dumb Mr. Montoro. What did you say to Julia? What did you do? He had managed to take away one of her only friends... And she was not happy about it.

                                              Just when Sheera thought she'd be able to get away with having a relaxing day until her date with Sin, a distress signal came through her communicator... It was RedHawk and he needed help. Badly, by the sound of it. She sighed and stood up, stretching her arms over head head before disappearing in a swirl of shadows.

                                              Just as the trigger was pulled, the downed criminal was suddenly swallowed up by thick swirls of an inky looking substance and the bullet hit the building, embedding itself deep in the brickwork. Nox stepped out of the shadows next to RedHawk, scythe in hand, the criminal trussed up next to her. "Killing 'im 'vould do no good," she said, sounding bored. " 'is death 'vill not bring back 'zhe dead." Shadows swallowed up the criminal once more, where they would then dump him out at the hospital in handcuff's for medical treatment and then he'd be taken to the police station. The Russian was getting real tired of vigilante's popping up and trying to take revenge on people who had hurt them in some way; if she'd killed every person who had ever killed those she loved, she'd be the most wanted serial killer in history. She looked over at Redhawk - or appeared to, as she was wearing her customary blindfold and cowl - and said, "You look like 'ell." He was severely injured... Nox didn't even want to begin guessing at how many injuries he had sustained from what looked to be a bike crash - his own bike, of course - and an attack from something that looked like a robot that was buried under a bunch of rubble. The Hawk really needed to find a safer way of transportation or he needed to keep a healer with him at all times, so that he wouldn't be caught facing someone who didn't seem to have a problem killing someone. Of course, that was assuming that this... Whoever he was, was able to pull the trigger on RedHawk. Attempting to kill someone who had murdered a family member was different from trying to kill someone who had done you no harm. For most people at least. Shadows lifted RedHawk off the ground and stabilized him in a standing position, wrapping around his injured form and giving him the ability to stand on his own. Once the Challenger's leader was in a standing position, Nox turned her attention back to the vigilante in the black suit. As if the Red Orchid hanging around the city wasn't bad enough, now they had another vigilante that was going to get in the way. Great. " 'vill give you one chance. Leave now und no one needs to know about 'ztupid decision you tried to make. 'ztay and 'zhings 'vill get ugly." She had no reason to fear this vigilante any more than she had a reason to fear Aria or Jack Frost or anyone else who wandered the city, causing more trouble than they were worth. As if emphasizing her point, she slammed the butt of her scythe against the ground. The darkness at her feet trembled, eager to get to work. Her shadow, the one cast against the wall grew and warped until it was twice her size and monstrous in appearance. It's grin was large and fanged. Only Apex would see it. Should RedHawk turn to look, it would instantly shrink back to normal. Nox waited, seemingly patient, for the vigilante to make his decision. If he left, she'd take Hawk back to base for a healing. If he didn't leave... Well, he'd regret making that decision.

There was a chance here, however slim, that everyone would be able to walk away from this. Rotor needed help, the driver needed help, JC himself needed help... nobody needed more aid though than Apex. Here was a boy who was in pain, and on the verge of tossing his life away. JC knew, he had been in this position too many times to count. When it was himself... well, he didn't always make the right choice. It made him a hypocrite, but also meant he stood the best chance of keeping Apex from making his mistakes.

Back when the team was in Los Angeles, they had been hunted by a member of the OWC and a former staffer of E1: John Nelson. Nelson killed their classmate and friend Lincat, and put Darren into a coma. JC flew into a rage, snuck out of the base, and returned covered with injuries and carrying a bag. Inside of the bag was the head of John Nelson. Upon arriving back at the base, JC immediately passed out; upon awakening, he found he did not remember cutting off Nelson's head. The head in the bag was proof though of what he'd done. Apex would not follow that path, this would not be his John Nelson. Not if JC could do anything about it... well, with the little he could do at least.

Of course, things could be going much worse than they were. Considering the immense pain he was in, JC was impressed he was still conscious, let alone able to attempt talking Apex down. Bike crash, rotor attack, Apex crash; at the beginning of his hero career, he would have been out like a light from just one of those. Years of fighting and training had hardened him both physically and mentally into the hero he was today.

When Apex spoke again, JC's hopes began to grow that this would work out. Using what JC assumed to be Apex's normal voice was a good sign, but talking about his father... well, not so much. Loved ones were typically grounding thoughts, calming down those too close to the edge. In this case, with every word it was driven home that Apex was chasing his father's murderer, and he would do what he had do. JC tried to summon the strength to throw another projectile, but he simply had nothing left to give. At the last possible moment, the murderer was swallowed into the shadows.

As the shadows foretold, Sheera had arrived. She stepped out with the criminal trussed into shadows. When she spoke, she drove home his previous point about killing the criminal, before noting JC looked like hell. JC didn't have the strength to reply, so he simply gave a weak chuckle. Sheera was here, meaning the murderer was safe, and JC himself was soon not going to be in the crippling pain he was currently in. Shadows forced him to his feet, supporting him so he could manage this feat. Needing her help to stand, he did not cut the impressive figure he normally did. “Apex... go. I will find yo-” JC was cut off by a cough that carried some blood with it. “You. Go.” JC finished, his tone almost pleading; sirens were beginning to sound in the distance; the cops were on their way.

His eyelids began to droop as his ragged breathing continued. The world was beginning to grow darker, meaning the leader of The Challengers was about to pass out. Perhaps pure adrenaline or simple necessity had kept him awake until now, but with Sheera here, his body finally had enough. With one last whisper to go, his head dropped, and he was unconscious. Lord was he ever going to need a healer. Rotor could use one as well, but JC did not have a chance to explain this to Sheera. Luckily for Rotor, it was his Rotorbot trapped under the rubble, or else he would have been screwed.

{A}fter Geraldo had told Jenny more than he had ever shared with anyone save Ros or Jean, he was surprised by Jenny's reaction. The flash of anger he had expected, but the response shortly after that she knew what he needed was what truly surprised him. Geraldo was sure that nothing could fix what had happened this morning, but if ever there was a solution, maybe this wildcard in his life would have it. It was as though she could read his thoughts though as she explained she thought a change in scenary and some fresh air would be the cure. When she added that they were still to have their dinner plans, he face perked up a bit.

{J}enny had advised that when they walked outside, Geraldo should ignore all the people around, and she had correctly predicted that several of the people that had seen his scene at the river side where still milling about. The tycoon did as he was told though and had eyes only for Jenny, save the woman who had a note for Jenny. When Jenny read the note silently and pocketed it, Geraldo gave it no more thought. If she was out to hurt him, she wouldn't still be here with him as he had just given her enough to crush what little spirit he had left.

{T}he pair ignored the rest of the people as they walked on with no particular destination in mind. It felt strange to Geraldo that he didn't have a goal, but he enjoyed Jenny's presence so much that he quickly brushed the thought off and just enjoyed being with the woman he was beginning to love. When Jenny sounded overly offended that Zephyr couldn't even show proper grammar during their Battle of Quips, Geraldo chuckled. It sounded a little ridiculous when she said it like that, but in a funny way. He responded, "A woman like you should have no problem being ladylike. Do you remember when I first saw you?" Jenny blushed a little as he continued, "Even sitting there in nothing but your under-garments, you still sat straight and had an air of sophistication about you."

"Well thank you Geraldo... not the easiest thing to manage at the time," she bowed her head slightly at the memory. She had been forced down to her undergarments but promised herself that she would keep her cool. Evidently, it had worked, and it helped catch Geraldo's eye. Her professionalism actually helped in her personal life for once.

{E}ventually, the two came upon a passing popcorn cart. Jenny began to steer Geraldo using their locked arms and Geraldo reached for his wallet. The blonde stopped him, mentioning that he was not to pay for anything tonight and when he started to protest, Jenny cut him off with a shush. The rich man was so shocked that someone had shushed him that he simply took the popcorn held out to him.

Jenny kept a pleasant smile on her face while she paid for the popcorn. Geraldo seemed stunned, and it made her want to laugh. Out of respect, she kept it inside, though he would get some gentle teasing later about this. "Today is my treat, and I will not hesitate to shush you again if you try to pay," she noted to him before smiling a bit wider and grabbing some popcorn. This seemed to unfreeze Geraldo, and they resumed their walk.

They idly chit chatted as they walked along the river, the conversation staying light until Zephyr was brought back up again by Geraldo. "Listen... I will make you a deal. I will track down everything that can be found about Zephyr and that number he gave you, but while that is being done, we will have some food, and it cannot be mentioned once. If you try to pay, we have to wait until tomorrow to go see him. Deal?" she asked him, stopping him and waiting for the right moment to take the card with Zephyr's number on it.

{G}eraldo quickly regained his composure as Jenny mentioned that tonight would be her treat and he was to expect being shushed more often if he were to try and break that. Normally, he would have cried blasphemy at the idea of such disrespect, but he knew she meant it in a playful way. Instead of responding, he grabbed a bit of the salty popcorn and tossed it back.

{A}fter that the pair continued their walk, talking idly. Geraldo was telling a story about the time he had tried to buy a hotel in Japan before he had learned their native tongue. In the end it had involved a sumo wrestler, a samurai, and a lot of saki. As the story dwindled down, Geraldo absently slid his hand into his pocket and he felt the card Zephyr had given him. The lightwielder pulled it out and mentioned that he couldn't stand not knowing who the man worked for or why he had been connected to Ben. Jenny stopped him, giving him a light but serious look and offered to track down all the information she could about the mysterious aerokinetic and if he even tried to pay for dinner, he would have to wait till tomorrow. Geraldo held the card up and moved his hand as though to throw the card away, but it disappeared into light, reappearing in Jenny's pocket as the man said, "Out of sight, out of mind."

"Good. Let's go to that place up ahead." She said, kissing him lightly on the cheek for his trick before grabbing his arm and walking with him towards the restaurant. It was a nice enough place, but far from the typical haunts of Geraldo, she was sure. Here was a restaurant that would have prices that definitely never reached triple digits, and did not entertain anyone with a royal title. The smells drifting from it though teased delights and a good time; Jenny was going to take advantage of both. When they walked in, they were greeted by a hostess, a woman in her late teens who likely had this as an after school job. They took a seat in a booth with some menus, and were left alone to peruse them.

"Looks like the chef knows his way around some classic American dishes," Jenny noted as she looked over the menu. She quickly made up her mind on what to order, so she set down her menu and began to work on tracing Zephyr's number. It was simply enough really, she sent a picture of the card to Rotor's computers, where a tracing program would handle the rest. By the time the waitress arrived, Jenny had her phone away and was ready to enjoy herself. The waitress was another teenybopper, but she seemed to know what she was doing underneath her enthusiasm.

"Hello, yes. I will have the pot roast with the mashed potato as a side. He will have the same," she said. Geraldo opened his mouth to protest, as clearly things on the menu needed sorting out before he would be comfortable ordering it. "The same. Trust me, you will love it," she said, giving him a disarming smile. She also ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to split, which was brought quickly to their table. "The red wine will pair excellently with the food. Trust me, you will enjoy this," Jenny told Geraldo, resting her hand on his on top of the table.

{G}eraldo was rewarded with his trick by a light kiss on his cheek that made him forget all about earlier in the day. Jenny immediately pointed out a restaurant that included neon signs and promised good homestyle cooking. Before he could mount any kind of protest though, Jenny was pulling him along behind her and through the door. The smells that hit him as they got closer and went in made his stomach rumble, reminding him he hadn't eaten since a quick breakfast that morning. The hostess that greeted them was really young, and that sent only made him dread what that meant for the service. As the girl sat Jenny and Geraldo, they were given menues that were covered in flashy designs in bright colors. As Geraldo let out a scoff that he could no longer contain, Jenny took the menu from him.

{A}s the waitress arrived and Jenny ordered for the two of them, Geraldo began to speak up, trying to make sure everything would be up to the quality he had come to expect, but he was silenced as Jenny cut him off. She ordered a bottle of red wine that was nothing special other than being the most widely available. She asked for him to trust her though so he cut off all other comments on the food choices. He instead chose to ask, "I know a little about your profession now. What kinds of things do you do when you aren't working? Other than seducing rich men and forcing them to eat at common eateries?"

"Well, I do spend quite a lot of time seducing rich men," she chuckled at him while she poured him a glass of wine. "For the most part, I... well, I do a lot of travelling in between jobs. When I'm on contract, I'm available all the time, which does not lead to hobbies. On the job, I suppose reading is my hobby. Off, I enjoy hiking and travelling. Have you ever walked through Greenland? Spectacular place," she explained. After a sip of her wine, it was his turn to answer some questions. "So, have you never really eaten at places like this? Some of the best foods in the world come from hole in the wall places. Not that this is such a place. I remember a barbecue... restaurant is too kind... eatery on the West Coast, in Southern California. Barely enough room for the grills, but best barbecue I've ever had."

{G}eraldo lightly laughed with Jenny. When she handed him a glass of wine, he swirled it lightly, bringing it to his nose as he lightly smelled, taking in its bouquet. He sampled the taste and found it to be not too horrible. As she answered his question, Geraldo took an actual sip of the red wine and found that the second drink was better than the first as his taste buds readjusted to the flavor. When she asked him about his choice in dining he shook his head and replied, "I rarely go anywhere to dine that hasn't been given at least five stars consistently, and definitely not anywhere that hasn't been vetted by a slew of food critics." Geraldo unrolled his silverware from it's napkin and he held up the fork as he explained, "I've yet to really eat with silverware that wasn't actually silver, and the fact that there is only one fork and knife in here makes me uncomfortable." At the look that Jenny gave him, Geraldo quickly added, "I don't think that these things make people any less, but I've never had reason to do anything but live like that. I've been given anything I've ever asked for on a platinum platter since I was born. The only ones who have ever denied me anything were villains and The Shimmer put them down quickly enough. I don't know what it's like on the other side of the tracks other than under a mask."

Jenny listened to Geraldo, her heart growing sad as he spoke. He simply did not know how the other ha-... ninety nine percent lived. "Well, you are your own man now. You don't have to have everything on a platinum platter. You can simply do what makes you happy. Believe me, I will change your mind about what makes dining fine," she smiled at him. Dating her would... holy crap, were they dating? What exactly were they? Boyfriend and girlfriend? Friends having fun? They just sort of... fell into whatever this relationship. She enjoyed spending time with him, and so would have to worry about their relationship later.

"I have another proposal for you. Every other date, we go to someplace I pick out. If you can arrange transportation, I can cover the rest," she suggested. If his powers were working, The Shimmer Airlines would be able to take them anyplace in no time at all. "And the second I take you someplace you don't enjoy, we can simply go to your restaurants from then on. Deal?" she asked, holding up her wine glass.

{T}hen Jenny stated that Geraldo was able to live however he wanted, especially now that he was on his own to take care of himself, a list of the many things his parents had forbid came into mind. He set the list aside in his mind, bent on trying many of them if Jenny would be there with him. That begged the question though; in what way was she with him? What intentions did she have with him? Was she merely a friend that was trying to cheer a friend up, or was there more for her as there was with him? He wasn't sure, but felt the time was wrong to figure that out at this time.

{A}lways the business woman it appeared, Jenny offered that on other dates, not if they went on them but when, they would trade off on deciding where the pair would go. She mentioned him arranging transports and he began to reach across the table, but thought better of it as she continued. When she held up her glass, Geraldo tapped his glass against her's and drank. As he set the glass down, his thoughts were interrupted by the arrival of something that's smell again set his stomach to growling.

"Thank you, it smells delicious," Jenny nodded to the waitress as the pot roasts were set in front of them. She watched Geraldo take a hesitant bite, quite small, as a child would with something their parents were making them try. It seemed to please him however, as the next bite was of normal size. Small smile on her face, she began to tuck into her food as well. Their meal passed quietly at this point, as neither was rude enough to speak with a mouth full of food. As they were finishing, their waitress came by to see if they were interested in desert. As she was about to answer, Jenny's phone beeped, signalling a response from Rotor's program. "Thank you, but no, we are good. This is for you, please keep the change," she said, slipping a crisp one hundred pound note to the waitress for their food and her tip. The waitress thanked them profusely as she left, keeping the smile lit on Jenny's face.

"So, care to engage in The Battle of the Quips, round 2?" she asked, offering her phone out to him. On it was a map tracking the phone, the phone belonging to the number Zephyr had given.

{G}eraldo looked at the food placed before him. The meat was ladled in gravy, and the fat had clearly not been trimmed. The potatoes looked thick enough to clog drains. He could hear the fat in the food chanting, "Eat me! Eat me! Eat me!" He slowly slid his fork into the roast, turning it to tear off a small bite and lifted it to his mouth. He hestistated one last moment as he put it in his mouth and chewed. The flavor was almost enough to knock him to the floor. It was so much more robust than anything he had ever had before. The juices and fats enhancing the taste of the meat to levels of heaveliness. He quickly dug in to another bite.

{A}s Jenny and Geraldo finished eating, the waitress had come over only to be interrupted by Jenny's phone making a sound, dessert was declined and Jenny handed the waitress a hundred pound note. She then held up her phone, showing a map that appeared to be tracking the location of the phone number that Zephyr had given The Shimmer earlier. Geraldo nodded to Jenny's question, responding, "I mostly just want answers now. Let's be on our way." Geraldo reached over and grabbed Jenny's hand and they disappeared in a flash. In leaving, Geraldo made sure that two hundred pound notes had seperated from his wallet and appeared on the table.

The crack of the wrist guns abated the void of despair that was slowly creeping upon him, allowing Ryan to feel a brief moment of relief from the pain that threatened to consume him. He had avenged his father. It had to be what the man had wanted or he wouldn't have given Ryan the weapon to do it. It was short lived though as the murderer was swallowed by a mass of shadows, disappearing before the bullets could hit true. Rage was quick to take its place as the bullets drove deep into the brick of the wall the robber had been against. Apex turned around to look for the new threat, finding the obvious new comer quite quickly. The AI displayed the shadow woman's name, Nox. In the lower left corner of his visor, Ryan saw snippets of videos from social media sites displaying some of Nox's more public uses of her powers, and some when only her bare hands were necessary.

There weren't too many times that Nox had appeared in the public eye. When she did, it rarely went well. Buildings were torn asunder as she fought against foes. Her disregard for property was epitomized as Zephyr and she fought, multiple structures destroyed, thousands easily in property damage. In front of the media, she was sullen and quick to disappear at best. At her worst she had even struck a particularly persistent reporter, snapping a microphone in two before teleporting in a flash of shadows. The latest video that had cropped up was titled, "Nox of the Challengers?" and included reports of mysterious deaths in alleys and peoples' homes. They had been beheaded and more than one camera had even caught a shadowy figure entering and leaving the area, a scythe clearly dangling from the figure's right hand.

The woman reiterated what Redhawk had said in an almost bored voice. She then disappeared with Ryan's target, reappearing alone moments later. Ryan seethed, his anger only growing. As the heroine turned to comment on Redhawk's status, Ryan pointed a finger at the woman. He said in anger, his voice back to the aggressive, mechanical sound "Who the hell do you think you are? I thought the Challengers were good guys. I thought they took down the bad guys and saved the day. Now I know you aren't heroes; you're cowards!"

The shadows around Nox lifted Redhawk from the ground, allowing him to stand as she gave Apex a final warning to leave. She accentuated this warning by slamming the butt of her scythe into the ground forming a large display of shadows behind her. Her own shadow had grown enormous; its face developed a demonic, toothy grin. Ryan's eye's narrowed behind the visor. This woman definitely wasn't a heroine; he had seen the videos. They were proof enough that she was a menace to society. She was a deceiver and, if he wanted others to be safe from her intimidations and destructions under the guise of protecting people, he would have to take her down. A small voice in the back of his mind told him that he was being irrational, that he was only trying to justify beating the woman until she told him where the butcher was.

Ryan shook the nagging thought away. After he was done with her, he would find where the witch had taken Howard's murderer and finish him. Ryan's eyes scanned his surroundings, forming a plan of attack as the AI displayed calculations of the required speeds and angles to accomplish the maneuver he was thinking of. If he wasn't so intensely focused on the looming fight he would have thought it very impressive. Redhawk pleaded for Apex to just go, but Ryan didn't care as he turned his foot to take off. The sound of sirens interrupted the stand off's silence and were headed their way.

The AI said,
"User, there are several police cruisers heading our way and more are to come. Your chances of winning this fight have fallen to a negligible level. It is time to flee."

Ryan shook his head and said to the AI, "I won't quit. I don't care if I have to fight the entire police force. They allow these criminals to go free and deserve no better treatment. Now let's go!" Ryan tried to kick off at a sprint, but the suit didn't move.

The AI said,
"User, I apologize but I must activate a safety override. I am programmed to keep the user safe in the event of the user being incapable of making tactical decisions." The suit leaned to the left and took off at a full sprint to the left of Nox and Redhawk, away from the coming sirens. Ryan screamed and cursed, demanding the suit take him back. He had to avenge his father's death. The suit responded by continuing to run back in the direction of Ryan's home.

When Apex finally reached the James' home, it stopped and returned control to Ryan. Ryan commanded the suit to withdraw. As the suit receded into Ryan's accessories, Ryan fell to his knees. His father was gone and he had failed to avenge his death. The man who had killed Howard would never be served justice. A mixture of caustic anger and abysmal sorrow swirled through him, as the beginning of many cold tears splattered on the ground.

Flesh and bone retracted around Declan's jawline as he scowled; a low grunt rolling through his throat. Furrowed brows loosed after mere moments, the scowl transforming into a friendly smile, "Ya 'ave a good sense'a huma, mate. Look... thihs ihs 'ow iht's gonna go dun: Ya gonna stae ihn tha' cage ahn' ya gonna stae quie'. Duh we'ave ahn undastandin'?" Declan asked, the smile sticking to his face like glue. He wasn't really expecting Phillip to answer and to be honest, he didn't want one. The giant's hand went to his ear, "E's ihn custedy. Rendezvous ihn two minits." he explained into the earpiece as his eyes scanned Phillip.

{A}s the giant's face changed to a scowl and snapped back to a smile, stating how things were going to go, Philip sighed. He had things to finish before he could get to the good part of his day and this behemoth was slowing him down. When asked if there was an understanding, Philip said, "No. I don't think we do have an understanding." When Declan looked up to retort, Philip opened his hand and a bright spark snapped in front of the giant's eyes. The electrokinetic quickly reached his arms out, touching one of the bars several feet apart. He released a negative charge onto the metal and slid his fingers across a few of the bars, cutting them like a plasma cutter. When he finished, the bars still hung in place.

Phillip's voice echoed past the cage causing Declan to stop his transmission to deal with the electrokinetic's refutation. Just as he opened his oversized jowls, his vision was compromised. Reacting, Hercules threw his arm up over his eyes. The bright flash faded away, leaving darkness in it's wake. Declan's eyes adjusted quickly, compensating for the swift change in brightness. By the time he was finally clear, Phillip had cut through the iron bars. That freaking weasel! Declan dug his foot into the ground to push off into a sprint-

{P}hilip saw Declan regain focus just as he finished cutting the iron bars. He remembered something Henry, the old man from the electronics store, had told him and decided to give it a try. He waved his hand near the three bars he had cut, charging them with positive energy. He then let loose a blast of positive energy directly behind them. As the bars took off directly at the monstrosity, Philip quickly stepped out from the cage via his newly manufactured hole.

The iron bars flew from their stilled positions, headed directly for Declan. As they entered his stasis field, they slowed. Declan grabbed two of them and barreled through the third. In mid-sprint, he condensed his stasis field around the bars. Declan lept into the air and readied a strike from the iron staff in his left hand. He fell hard, aiming to crash in front of Phillip as he swung for his feet.

{W}hen the iron bars slowed midair, Philip felt a strange source of energy fluctuating around them. Now that he had noticed it around the bars, it seemed that there was that small power surrounding the giant. The electrokinetic didn't really have time to think about it right at the moment though as the giant was leaping into the air with his newly acquired weapons. Philip dove to the side and rolled, putting distance between Declan and him.

What was this? Cat and mouse? Declan pounces and the little pikachu just scurries away? Where was the fight in this? Maybe he was stalling. Trying to read his opponent. The information on Philip had described him as flashy and... 'artistic'. Declan was quite the large canvas so, he guessed it made sense that the painter would need a moment to let the inspiration flow. He wasn't going to give him that chance. As soon as Philip was back to his feet, Declan released the fields from around the bars and threw each one in succession like javelins, aimed for each of the electrokinetic's legs. The giant followed behind in a sprint, the ground trembling in response to every step as his stasis field returned to it's default state.

{P}hilip rolled to his feet, but didn't have long to figure out what to do next. The behemoth threw the bars back at Philip and proceeded to chase after them. The electrokinetic smiled as he followed the first thought that came to his head. He changed the energy in his body to a positive charge. This would send the positively charged bars flying away from himself, but the real fun was the blast of positive energy positioned just below and to his right. As soon as the positive forces touched, Philip was sent several feet in the air and to the side. He released a blind shot of lightning, hoping to get close enough to hit the giant's strange aura of energy.

Just before the metal rods were about to connect with the electrokinetic, Declan's HUD displayed a change in the magnetic field around his enemy. As the bars flew, the giant pushed off, soaring into the air to grasp them once again. Falling, his gaze turned to Philip's new position. It was nearly instantly obvious that a lightning strike was headed his way as the negative electrons began flowing toward him. Declan rocketed to the ground, driving the iron rods into the ground in front of him, swiftly letting go before sliding to the side. When the lightning struck, it was absorbed by the bars, simply dispersing through the ground below. Philip was keeping himself at a distance. That wouldn't do. Declan came out of his slide, plunging his foot into the ground to set himself into a sprint. "Stahnd steil!" It didn't take but a split second for the giant to reach his target; his stasis field enveloping Philip to keep him from moving away too quickly. A prepared right hook bolted forward, aimed at Philip's gut as the stasis field suddenly retracted to cover his body in a condensed layer of force field energy.

{A}s Philip landed on his feet, he turned to see the result of his lightning shot. Declan smashed into the ground jamming the iron bars into the ground and had moved away from them immediately. As the lightning ran into the bars and into the ground, Philip was impressed that the giant was not only strong and fast, but he was clever. That was three times now that-

WHAT THE HELL?!

{T}he giant was upon Surge before he could finish the thought, screaming at him to suspend all motion. He had barely a moment to react, sending out a blast of electricity in every direction. Immediately after, the unknown energy that surrounded Declan encompassed him. Philip couldn't concentrate; there were too many things going on. The energy he had released had mostly been pushed away by the moving energy barrier; a giant's fist was coming forward, a little slower than Philip expected it to be; this energy surrounding him was something he had never seen before. Before these thoughts could fully develop, the force of a rhino smashed into Philip's gut as the barrier retracted into a tight knit field around Declan. As Philip flew though the air, he felt a pain the likes of which he hadn't felt before. As he collided with the nearby house's wall and fell to the ground, the electrokinetic could feel anger building. As the anger built, static began to pulse across his skin, no longer drawing the excess power into the coin given to him by Maeva. He yelled at the behemoth, his usual composure slipping, "Who do you think you are?! If you want to take this seriously than I will oblige you!" He drew on his coin to amplify a shot fired at the fire hydrant next to Declan.

Finally, Philip had taken a blow. Declan needed to stay on him. He couldn't let him... recover... sonova- The readings on his HUD showed a spike in electrical energy as the electrokinetic tossed a bolt through the air, striking a fire hydrant. Declan reacted as quickly as he could, trying to reach the hydrant before- he was too late. The giant pushed against the explosion of water and metal, attempting to close the hydrant with his bare hands. The sound of the wrenching metal pierced the air as he twisted it shut, the pressure dying down to a mere trickle. His stasis field flickered before dying out completely. The hit had caused his force field to return to it's stasis form, allowing a piece of metal from the hydrant to not only enter his immediate vicinity, but smash the watch on his wrist. Wonderful. The water had flooded the street and Philip had the home advantage. Declan didn't want to let him go. He couldn't let him continue this crusade. He had no choice but to fight on Philip's terms. The giant raced at the electrokinetic, hoping to knock him out before he could react.

{P}hilip watched as his would-be captor tried to stop the bolt from hitting the fire hydrant. That seemed to only make it worse as the blow to the hydrant not only affected the metal, but did severe damage to the behemoth's energy field. As the hydrant instantly spiked in temperature, the metal softened and the water inside instantly became steam. The pressure blew the top of the hydrant into a million tiny fragments that exploded out in all directions. The shrapnel and steam mixing with the oncoming water from the ground was an immaculate display of brilliance that left him momentarily stunned. Luckily for Surge, the giant had unwittingly blocked most of the fragments from hitting the awe-struck Surge. The same could not be said for the behemoth's watch. It took a hit, sparking as the energy field flickered out completely. The man quickly closed the remainder of the hydrant, but not before the street had been flooded by a few inches of water. The man delayed only a second before attempting to bear down on Philip again. The steam had given him an idea though. Drawing immense power from his coin, Philip released a current into the water that spread like a wildfire causing it all to heat just as the fire hydrant had. Hot steam blanketed the battlefield. Philip dashed to the right, using the cover to move away quickly. He stopped long enough to call in the steam, "I could very well send more electricity and coat this entire field with lethal amperage. I want you to remember that next time we meet." With that, he vanished.

Declan charged through the steam, only to ram directly into nothingness. He slipped, falling to the ground, hearing the psychopath's claim of salvation. Declan raised to his feet, scanning the area. His HUD was picking up large amounts of electricity and heat everywhere. There was no way to tell where Philip had gone. With a roar he slammed his hands together, clearing most of the area... Philip had escaped.

Think of the stasis field like this : ()=stasis field *=electricity #=punch

2 ( Declan )*Surge*
3 ( Declan Su)*rge*
4 ( Declan Surge)****
5 ( Declan# Surge) ****<--- disperses

                                              Nox thought that nothing this child could do or say would annoy her further... She was proven wrong as he burst out, "Who the hell do you think you are? I thought the Challengers were good guys. I thought they took down the bad guys and saved the day. Now I know you aren't heroes; you're cowards!" Her eyes, unseen behind the blindfold, narrowed. They were cowards now, were they? It took courage to kill a man who wasn't able to stand and defend himself, did it? She resisted the urge to put the boy - for that was what he was - straight and instead waited for him to make his decision. Some part of her hoped that he'd make a very dumb decision and she'd get to smack a little sense into him... But the rest of her hoped he'd just leave. She could already hear sirens. The last thing the team needed was the publicity that would come from her beating the snot out of some new vigilante and RedHawk, the teams fearless leader, unable to stand on his own. The heroine could tell, however, that this suited boy was attempting to figure out a way to fight them. No one stood that still for that long unless they were making calculations about how to fight vastly more experienced metas. RedHawk attempted to speak at that moment. “Apex... go. I will find yo-” His words were cut off by a cough that carried some blood with it. Not a good sign... He needed a healer and fast; they didn't have time to deal with an emotional boy bent on getting revenge on the man that Nox had spirited away. RedHawk managed to finish his sentence, saying, “You. Go.” It sounded like he was pleading with this suited vigilante. Nox didn't like that. The sirens were getting louder. She doubted the cops were on their way because of the little altercation between Apex and the man he'd tried to kill... They were likely on the way because of the crushed person/robot under the rubble and RedHawk's wreck. They really needed to get out of here, no one needed to see this. Noxes hand tightened on the shaft of her scythe, preparing to make the boys decision for him, only to see him shake his head. She couldn't hear anything but felt that there was some kind of conversation going on that they were not privy to. Perhaps the suit had an AI, much like Jason's had.

                                              Nox was getting impatient. She really wanted to smack a little sense into this child. The choice really should've been simple. Leave and go on with his life. Or stay and get the snot kicked out of him. He thought they were cowards? That they hadn't saved the day? She'd saved this boy from murdering someone in cold blood and the man he'd attempted to kill, she'd dropped off in the ER, handcuffed to a bed with a note stating that he needed to go to lock-up after he'd been treated for the murder of a man. Sitting on the mans shoulder, unseen by everyone except those who looked very closely, was a little sentry, a shadow meant to keep an eye out for the idiot vigilante or anyone else out for this man's blood.

                                              They never let criminals go free unless those criminals managed to get away with the aid of their abilities, like Ivy, Lincat, or Zephyr. They didn't kill people - well, mostly - and they did their best to do what was right. If only Celeste was here... Nox felt that the white-haired beauty would have been able to talk this boy down. But it wasn't really a discussion they could get into right at this moment in time, as he was being irrational and the cops were on their way. The boy suddenly seemed to lock up, as though the suit he was wearing had hardened and wasn't allowing him to move. If that was the case, whoever had given it to him had at least planned for his emotions to cloud his judgement. The boy suddenly leaned to the left and took off at a fully sprint past the two heroes. Good. At that moment, RedHawk's body seemed to decide it could take no more and he was suddenly unconscious, drooping within the shadows that had been holding him up. Nox shook her head. They really needed to find a way to better protect him when he was out on his bike; another crash like this might kill him, especially if a healer didn't get to him in time. Just as the cops arrived, Nox and RedHawk disappeared in a swirl of shadows, leaving the authorities to figure out what had transpired... Which would be difficult, given what little there was. It would later be reported that the pair of legs sticking out of the rubble belonged to a robot but, for now, authorities scrambled to rescue what they thought was a person being crushed by fallen brickwork. The shadows spit Nox and RedHawk out in the medical bay and she placed him on one of the beds, removing his mask and setting it to the side. "Idiot..." She pulled her cowl and blindfold off and they disappeared, her hair turning blond as shadows wrapped around her body, taking away her hero uniform and replacing it with civilian clothing. Sheera disappeared in a swirl of darkness, her intent to go to the living room, where Kayleb had been napping. She hated having to come to him for something like this because he was so much more than a vessel for healing... But Celeste wasn't in base and her own form of healing might do more harm than good with the state JC was in.

                                              When she appeared in the living room, Kayleb was already awake and asked her what was going on; it seemed he'd heard the distress call from JC's communicator just a little bit too late. <"JC is injured; he wrecked his bike and God knows what else. I'd heal him but I think I'd end up killing him if I tried. Celeste is on patrol and who knows where the twins are... So, if you feel up to it, I'm sure he'd appreciate the help."> She knew he'd never let JC just sit there and suffer, so they went up to the medical bay together. As they entered, her phone let out a soft, repetitive beedle beedle! and she pulled it out of her pocket. It was a call... Without realizing it, her eyes lit up and she smiled just a little. "I 'vill be right back..." She slipped out of the Medical Bay and into her room, sliding her finger across the screen on her phone and holding it to her ear. " 'ello?" At the sound of Sin's voice, her smile broadened just a little... Even with all that had happened already today... The thought of her date with him later brought a little trill of excitement down her spine.

|S|tanding along the catwalk, Arthur peered over to his army below; his fingers gripping the rails. For the past couple of hours he had helped Fin pick out the most capable among their ranks; setting them with groups for training. He would need to leave soon. Katsumi was waiting on his arrival, and it would do no good to leave him without instruction.

The sound of creaking metal rang through Arthur's ears as Fin approached. "Arthur, I noticed you haven't asked about the numbers. We've had a steady increase in the headcount and-" Athur held up a hand to silence him, "I've already counted them. It's an impressive growth. Still... I fear we are a few hearts short." Fin raised a brow and tilted his head slightly in thought, "Worry not... that is my burden to bear. Your mind must turn to choosing your generals. Contact Alec, tell him to organize a charity toward Project Restore. Have him invite the prime minister and The Challengers. We need to keep up appearances and interest in the media. We wouldn't want to be forgotten, would we?" Fin nodded, leaving Arthur's side to resume his duty. The king excused himself from the premises, heading toward the address he had given Katsumi.

As he stepped into the warehouse, Arthur's head turned to see his Blade sitting; his calves folded beneath his thighs. Kat's eyes were closed, focusing on the pallet before him; which was covered with sandbags. A bead of sweat rolled from his forehead to his jaw, disappearing down his neck. He had done as Arthur asked. Kat's loyalty was strong, just as the king had predicted. He knew his wife had doubts about his blade, but he saw something even the witch couldn't; his heart. Morgan seemed focused on the power he held, but failed to look deeper. Once his loyalty was tested by fire and hammer, no better Blade could be forged.

He almost hated to interrupt Katsumi's concentration, but time was of the essence. He stepped over to the warrior and spoke, authority dripping from his tone, "Katsumi... rise. It is time for your training to begin."

Shaundi was quick to release herself and Kayleb from the situation; Aria calling after them to say her goodbyes. It was for the better. Now, he could focus on Aria. His eyes soaked in her presence. Every movement she made was equivalent to nothing his imagination could conjure. Her lip, folding in as her teeth clamped down to hold in place for what seemed hours; her hand, gently squeezing the door handle in nervous reaction; her eyes, sparking with hope; it was magical. Her stunned reaction faded as she realized they had just been standing in the doorway. She invited him into their condo, causing him to realize that he had just knocked on his own door to be let in. This error had been made due to a combination of his emotional high and the morphine flowing through his veins. Though, this reasoning had yet to settle. He was with Aria... only Aria. There was no shadow; no dark entity twisting his thoughts or pushing him from the love of his life. His fiancee asked about his injury, but it was muffled; his ears focusing on her heartbeat. Darren barely registered that he had been spoken to. He was led to the couch, where she sat beside him. Her eyes held a conflicted aura, one that was slowly being won over by the love she held for him. Though his vision was focused solely on her, his head had turned when being placed on the couch. She remedied this with a simple touch, cradling his chin with her hands before wiping away the tears that hung from his eyes. She was inspecting him; trying to solidify his claim.

Still, a hole revealed itself. The morphine had caused his nerves to shut out nearly all feeling. He pleaded inwardly to feel her hands against his rough stubble. He could feel the pressure, but not much else. She asked another question that he didn't quite catch. This pulled him from the focus on her heartbeat so that he could hear her voice. "Is it really you again?" As her vocal chords, lips, and tongue produced these words, he smiled from ear to ear. He didn't even have to speak a word. She knew him too well to ignore the signs. Tears leaked over into her lower eyelids as she pressed her forehead to his. His eyelids, as if attempting to mirror Aria's, folded over, slowly squeezing out tears of joy. Her arms were thrusted around his neck, holding him tightly before burying her face in the crook of his neck. As she did this, he began feeling her skin against his. The morphine was beginning to wear off, almost as if granting his wish. Though, the wish held a side-effect. His leg began throbbing. Darren let out a grunt of pain, causing Aria to release him. No... He didn't care how much it hurt. He just wanted to sink into her embrace.

She asked him about his injury. Darren sighed in response before replying, "This morning, after you left, I fell down the stairs and sort of... fractured my leg. I fixed it up, though. I should be fine until I can get some real medical attention." She wasn't having it. Typical... Though, as much as he wanted to ignore it, the fracture was far from being okay. Darren's eyes followed Aria's hands as she sent off a text to Celeste. It was quickly responded to. Celeste would be here in the next hour to heal his fracture. Well... at least that gave him time alone with his fiancee before the light wielder arrived. She cuddled up next to him, avoiding his leg to make him more comfortable. As she ran her fingers through his hair, he closed his eyes, feeling as if he could fall asleep to her touch. His arm reached around her, pulling her closer to let her know that his leg was the least of his worries; that all he needed right now... was her.

Over the next hour they had shifted multiple times before settling. Darren laid upon his side, his spine pressing against the back of the couch, and his head propped up on the palm of his hand. His other arm dangled over Aria who was laying on her back, looking up at him. Her fingertips caressed his arm, their feet rested on the other end; every once in a while toying with each other. He had almost completely forgotten Celeste was going to be showing up... until she teleported in. This made Darren jump, causing a bit of pain to shoot through his leg. Even with the jolt of pain and a grunt to express said pain, he started laughing. Mixed with the laughter came a repeated ow. Within this time, Aria had sat up making sure he was okay, "I'm fine, I'm fine." he chuckled in pain. Aria helped him sit up, propping his leg on the coffee table, "Well, hi Celeste. Pleasure to see you," he grunted with a smile. The light wilder asked for specifics on the injury as Aria attempted to pull up the pant leg. "Torn ligament, a bruised meniscus, and a fractured patella. The fracture stretches up through my thigh bone. In other words... a pain in the a**... er... leg," he groaned, the smile dropping for only a mere second as Aria shot him a look of slight frustration, making a comment about him making it sound much less of an issue earlier. Darren was lucky the pants were a bit bigger than his others. Otherwise, he'd end up having to cut up JC's pants too. Once the pant leg was up, Darren helped Aria take off the bandaging and the rod so Celeste could heal it directly. It was warm at first... almost comfortable. Though, that was before the snaps echoed through the room. Aria had to hold him down with her telekinesis. Soon, it was over, leaving Darren refreshed. "Wooo... Thank you, Celeste. I owe you one. I hate to have to ask you to leave, but I could use a bit of rest. Feeling a bit dizzy if you know what I mean," he said, winking; his grin returning.

Well, this was turning out ******** great wasn’t it. No answer to their call for assistance, and now she was strung up like a turkey waiting for slaughter. Tina tried to move, but the constricting vines wouldn’t allow for even the twitch of a finger, let alone give her the room she needed to attempt to free herself. How did this happen? She couldn’t really recall, one moment she was fighting against the horrible plant monstrosity, then suddenly she was hanging upside down from near the ceiling with a pounding pain in her head.

Get a grip. Where’s Amanda.. is she okay? Tina opened her eyes through the pain, and while everything was blurry at first, she could see Amanda, struggling to stand with a broken leg.. a vine was racing towards her.. “Amanada!” Tina screamed in fear for her sisters life, but her scream was cut off as the vines about her constricted further, driving all the air from her lungs and not allowing her to breath. She continued to struggle as her vision darkened around her, but suddenly she felt herself drop as the vines slackened and lost their grip on her. She smacked hard onto the ground, but thankfully the dying vines cushioned most of the short fall to the floor.

For a moment, she lay on the floor struggling to breath properly and completely unsure as to what had just happened. Was ivy defeated.. more importantly, “Amanda!?” She managed no more than a whisper though as she tried to get up and get her bearings on the situation. She was hardly upon her feet before she was suddenly grabbed by metallic arms and removed from the building. Confusion swirled through her mind as she was put down, and shortly after Amanda was dropped into her arms. Relief cut through the confusion, “You’re okay!” Tina whispered harshly as she tried to hug Amanda, but her sister was having none of it, demanding to be put down. Startled, Tina moved to comply, but before Amanda was safely set down, blasting noise erupted about them as the building they only just got out of came crumbling down in a pile of smoke and dust.

As the dust billowed about them, Tina managed to get Amanda down and standing before Riley and.. “Rotor?” landed. No, no, they couldn’t deal with this. She and Amanda were ******** up and Riley… why wasn’t Rotor attacking him? “deserve it all. I just... thank you for letting me feel like a good guy for once,””Get out of my sight. Get out of here!” Clarity struck hard in that moment. Deep penetrating anger started to take over as Tina started towards Ri-Rotor, but the dull thump sound of Amanda passing out pulled her out of it. No matter what happened, Amanda was more important than anything. She went back to her sister, but before Rotor left, she looked up to him, black hatred in her eyes. “I’m going to ******** hunt you down, don’t you worry. You won’t last the week ********] Tina growled as she went to Amanda and with a wave of her hands, water burst from the ground and swirled about the twins in a protective bubble. They went no where, Tina hadn’t the energy for that. Instead, she started to do what she could to help the worst of Amanda’s injuries. “We need some ******** extraction guys, if any of you can get off your ******** asses to help.” Tina growled into her communicator as the water beneath her hands glowed slightly as she helped Amanda.

It wasn’t long before Manny arrived and took the two straight back to the medbay, where Kayleb had just arrived to help a badly wounded JC.

Eyes huge, so little left if something
Cracks and clues, he’s crazy as a straw
Why denied, does no one care or nothing
How, you ask, I ever last so long

Cause I, I went blind, a blinding riot
He’s regretting every word
Those empty lies
One more tonight, a blinding riot
As I summon every nerve

The barrel of Mokin's fifty caliber rifle slid over the grassy ridge, the hacker moving his head to look through the scope. He was a good mile from the house he was inspecting. "I don't know, Karuma... It seems pretty quiet. Think we're a little early?" The owl swooped down, landing a few feet from Mokin, "What? No squawk? No screech? Not even a screw you? You must be having a good day..." he whispered sarcastically as he adjusted his body on the hillside, "Ack... this position's giving me a wedgie. Can I at least get a bird's eye view?" he pleaded, taking his eye away from the scope to look at her. 'You already have a bird's eye view. You'd be blind without it.' Mokin's mouth dropped in awe before he shook his head, resuming his surveillance, "Playing the 'without me you're nothing' card... how mature of you, oh wise one." Karuma ignored his comment, turning her head to look over at the road, roughly fifty yards away, 'Do you think it was so smart to leave your motorbike on the side of the street?' she asked worriedly. Mokin pulled his eye away from the scope again to address her with a look of disbelief, "Will you stop it with the bike thing? I explained this earlier. It's a rural street. You'd have to be a moron to come down that road on a mission like this. Someone would spot you coming from a mile away." Karuma let the silence hang for a moment before replying, 'Is that why you came this way? Because you're a moron?' Mokin stopped his jaw from falling to the dirt to instead, retort, "I'm not trying to steal a billion dollar tech suit. I'm just scoping the place out. Different strategies for different scenarios. Besides, if this scientist finds out I'm spying on him, he might be better prepared to deal with the guy they sent after the suit. Win, win for everyone." Karuma's head snapped to look behind them, 'Get down.' Mokin's head dropped, "Get down? Really? I'm practically slithering on my stomach. Any lower and my insurance won't be able to cover my chiropractor bill." A car sped past them headed toward the white, two story house. 'So... only a mor-' "Save it," Mokin snapped, cutting her off as he looked through his scope, "I can hit him from here." The hacker placed his finger on the trigger and was just about to pull it... when his vision cut out. Immediately, he let his finger loose, setting it to the side of the trigger. 'Because, shooting a rifle at some random thief worked out so well the last time; didn't it?' His vision returned, "What do you suggest I do?" Karuma looked to the bike, 'Follow him.' Mokin wanted to argue, but there was no time. The thief would be at the house by the time he got everything loaded.

Without a word, Mokin stood, folded the rifle with a flick of a switch, and ran to the roadside where his bike awaited his arrival. The hacker flew down the street for about a mile before slowing down, parking it by the roadside. He grabbed his backpack, swinging it over his shoulder. From there, he sprinted to a nearby tree, climbing it before unfolding his rifle and taking position. Karuma flew in, perching herself on a nearby branch. "Now what?" 'Now, we wait.' This sense of awe and surprise was getting old, "... and just let him get robbed?" Karuma stretched her spine, almost seeming smug, 'You helped rob a bank this morning. You don't see me complaining.' His head shook in denial, "Not the same thing." 'Depends on your perspective,' Karuma countered, 'Are you sure your bike is going to be safe over there?' Mokin let the sniper hang by its strap. He was fed up, "What is it with you and the damn bike?! Also, since when do you criticize every little choice I make?! Is this going to become routine? I'd really like to know so I can opt out now." Karuma just continued staring at the house, 'I'd like to see you get back to Japan without me.' Really? Was she really taking this road? "I can handle mys-" Before he could finish his sentence, the thief came running out the front door, diving into his little Citroen. Nothing in his hands? He didn't get the tech, but he was sure in a hurry. The car backed out quickly. As he threw it in gear, the wheels spun, spilling smoke into the air before launching into a turn and... n-n-n-no! The thief straight up plowed over his bike. "You've got to be-" His voice was cut once more as the APEX suit bolted out through a window and sprinted after the thief... crushing what remained of his motorcycle. "I just BOUGHT THAT!" he yelled out, sliding his hands down his face. His fingertips stopped and gripped just below his eyes, stretching his eyelids downward. Like a starfish giving up hope in a fish tank, the hands slipped from his face to dangle in the air. 'Tol-' "You told me so... I get it. Not now, Karuma." He simply stared at the pieces of his new bike letting out a heavy sigh. He then withdrew the sigh, sucking air into his lungs, "Alright... let's get this over with." he said, releasing the air. Mokin hopped from the tree and began making his way to the front of the house.

MUSIC SWAP

A crack echoed through his ears as Mokin stepped on a pile of glass left behind by the suit's destruction. Hm. Well, it looked as if the scientist was prepared after all. He would just have to get whatever information he could from the computer database. Mokin finally made it to the front door, jiggling the handle as Karuma landed on his shoulder. Locked... but how? The thief had come through this way. His face twisted in thought. He could go through the broken window on the second floor, but that risked injury from the broken glass. As he looked at the door, it gave him an idea, "Karuma, can I get an energy feed?" For the first time in the last hour or so, she complied. Just as he had suspected, the door was locked with a tech grid. The thief must have hacked the lock, but when he made his way out, the door shut; putting the lock back in place. Mokin felt along the wall, finding a hidden panel just a few feet from the door. He pulled a device from his pack, hooking it up. In seconds, the door swung open. "Easy peasy, lemon squeezy." Karuma cocked her head, 'Say what?' Mokin shrugged off her criticism and continued into the house. The suit came from upstairs, so that's where he would find the lab. He bounded up the stairs, turning the corner to see a luggage bag. Was this man planning on taking a trip soon? He was just about to walk past it to head towards the open door at the end of the hall, but he stopped; opening the bag. Mokin was a man of information and things this out of place demanded inspection. The clothing... everything in this bag... this couldn't belong to the man described in the files... could it? Mokin packed the suitcase the way he found it and moved forward. When he finally entered the lab, it took everything in him to not fall back in shock. There was the scientist... laying on the ground... lifeless. Mokin clenched his fist, "Karuma... tell me I'm not seeing what I think I'm seeing." Karuma nodded, 'Howard James. The scientist assigned to the APEX battle armor. Currently deceased.' Mokin shoved her off his shoulder, causing her to flap her way to a suitable perch. He stepped over to the body and pointed, "How can you speak so calmly about this? I had a chance to stop this... and you're the one kept me from pulling the trigger. Why?" Karuma's chest rose and fell with a sigh, 'Someone would have died either way. Better it be the death that holds higher purpose.' Mokin's face warped into disgust, "Better it be what? Higher purpose? This was an innocent man. The better death would have been that dealt to the man who did this." He paused for a moment before asking another question, "Who was in the suit?" The owl looked to Howard, 'Ryan James, son to Howard." Mokin's hands flew into the air before covering his face, rubbing it as if to cleanse himself. His hands fell as he groaned in frustration, "You're telling me that the death of some boy's father is on my hands because you didn't want me to pull the trigger on a man who actually deserved it?" Karuma snapped her head to look Mokin in the eye, 'His death holds purpose. Karma will settle the thief's debt. For now... you have a job to do. I know this hits a little closer to home, but you can't let your emotions interfere. Would you like to be here when Ryan returns? Because, that might not turn out so well in your favor.' Mokin glared at her for a moment more before turning to the terminals.

Mokin worked in silence for another thirty minutes or so, grabbing every bit of data he could. Once he was done, he registered every piece physical information he could into his datapad. Now that he had completed his data entries, he could leave. Mokin began walking down the hall, stopping as he came to the luggage bag. Karuma landed on the staircase when she noticed his pause, 'Antonio... Ryan will be here any moment.' Mokin opened his mouth to speak a single word, "Yes." Yes? The statement wasn't an agreement. It was like he was answering a question. 'Come again?' Mokin tilted his head to look at her, "You asked earlier if I wanted to be here when Ryan returns. My answer... is yes." He thought he would have to fight her, but she didn't argue, 'Very well. Where shall we wait?'

Soon after

Mokin stared out the window... waiting. Just as Karuma had said; the APEX suit arrived back at the house, disconnecting from it's host. Though, it was weird that it had stopped outside rather than continuing into the house, and by extension, the lab. Mokin watched as Ryan fell to the ground in tears. He knew that feeling. It was a large risk, but Mokin felt a necessity to approach him now rather than later. It was the dumbest thing he could do, but something was just... right about it. Mokin walked slowly out the door, keeping his distance, "Ryan?" Mokin braced for impact as Karuma watched him from the door.

The black was more than blinding.. it was deafening in it’s silence and crushing in it’s lack of substance. He couldn’t breath, it suffocated him and the more he struggled the tighter it held on. “You killed us. It’s your fault.” A trio of far away voices shouted, “You abandoned me!” “You betrayed me!” “You murdered me!” The different voices spoke in unison as they started to grow louder and louder, coming bearing down on him. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to! I didn’t mean to!”

Kayleb jerked awake and shot bolt upright on the couch. Sweat had beaded his forhead and his breath came out shaking as he stared around the room, confused and scared until he realized it had only been a dream.. but it wasn’t.. he had done it.. it was his fault.. “I’m sorry.” He whispered under his breath just as Sheera made a startling appearance. Kayleb almost screamed, but managed to keep it in by clamping his jaw shut. <“Y-y-you scared me!”> He stammered out but Sheera elected to ignore his small fright because there were bigger fish to fry than giving an apology. <"JC is injured; he wrecked his bike and God knows what else. I'd heal him but I think I'd end up killing him if I tried. Celeste is on patrol and who knows where the twins are... So, if you feel up to it, I'm sure he'd appreciate the help."> Kayleb gave a small nod as he stood himself up and brought his ruffled feathers under control as he snapped his wings to his back and followed after Sheera to the medbay.

They had only just entered the medbay when Sheera’s phone gave a jingle and she pulled it from her pocket. Kayleb glanced to her, and her eyes lit up with happiness as she looked at the caller name. She quickly excused herself and headed back out. Kayleb, while curious as to what could possibly make her light up like that, didn’t watch her go. JC was in bad shape. He headed over and had hardly reached his side before Manny and the twins suddenly appeared. The twins were both in horrid shape, and Kayleb couldn’t help but be momentarily distracted by their arrival. Tina helped Manny get Amanda laying down on a bed before she started to chew the poor guy out for taking so long to get them. Then she caught sight of him, standing beside an unconscious JC gawking. “Get the ******** over here and help!” She growled, unaware of JC’s condition. “B-but JC is hurt…” He said, looking down at their leader. “Well hurry the ******** up than!” Tina growled as she turned away to fuss over Amanda some more.

Kayleb, without taking his frightened wide eyes off the twins, reached over and placed his hand on JC’s shoulder. He wasn’t quite expecting the amount of pain that enveloped him and with a cry of pain his shin shattered, two of his ribs snapped, and his lung tore open. He collapsed to the floor, unable to stand with the shattered shin, but he held on to JC until the man suddenly removed himself from Kayleb’s grasp. JC said something that Kayleb missed completely as his bones started snapping back to place and the hole in his lung stitched itself shut. A few sputtering coughs of blood came up to get what blood had leaked into his lungs out and then.. except for the deep ache of what bones had been broken then mended, Kayleb was back to normal. “You need to be more careful on that stupid bike.” Kayleb commented to JC without even a glance to his leader as he stood up and wiped the blood away from his lips and smearing it across his cheek a bit.

He didn’t wait for a reply from JC, as Tina and Amanda were in need of help just as much as JC had been. Kayleb went over to the twins, his fear of Tina momentarily gone as he looked at the two. Amanda was in more need, so this time he prepared himself for pain and placed his hand upon her shoulder. The leg that had only just been broken and repaired, shattered once more, but this time Kayleb bit down on his tongue to keep from crying out while he balanced on the leg that wasn’t breaking itself. A multitude of smaller injuries were pulled away from Amanda before Kayleb pulled his hand away. Tears streaked down his face by now, the pain of breaking his leg twice in as many minutes was not pleasant no matter how quick he could heal.

Tina took pause as Kayleb turned away from the now fixed Amanda to help her now. She wasn’t so heartless as to not see how much pain this caused the kid, and just as she thought she should probably not have Kayleb heal her, she wasn’t horribly injured.. just some bruised and cracked ribs.. Well it was too late, Kayleb reached out and touched her shoulder. Almost instantly her breathing was no longer laboured and pain ceased. She pulled away though before he could pull away the small cuts and bruises. “I’m fine.” She said, dismissing Kayleb.

Kayleb, struggling slightly to breath again, why do they have to have such similar injuries he thought with a sigh as his body worked at fixing itself. He was more then exhausted now, and just let himself slump to sit right there on the floor. The second break of his leg was healing a lot slower than he wanted, and the ribs were still not terribly pleased. He’d expended so much energy earlier in the day, he hadn’t thought it would affect his healing like this… “I’m fine..” He muttered in reply to a question he wasn’t sure that anyone in the room actually asked.

When Manny arrived back in the alley, he found no sign of Igasho or Elani. Elani quickly answered him over the comms, saying she was chasing Igasho who was tracking down the real killer. Real killer implied Igasho was not the killer. Now was not the time to ask for details, he simply had to trust her on the subject. As he opened his mouth to respond to her, a shitstorm came across their communicators. Several SOS signals, and a very angry sounding Tina.

“Guess it is overtime...” Manny muttered to himself, punching the bridge of his nose. His patrol was supposed to be over an hour ago, but everything was just snowballing. With the team, overtime didn't mean more pay, though it did usually mean keeping your teammates alive. Prioritize, prioritize... JC's SOS was being handled by Sheera, the twins needed help, Elani was with Igasho. It didn't feel right to leave her, but they were dealing a a murderer.

“Elani, I am going to go rescue the twins and Riley. Stay with Igasho, I will be back when I can. You're in charge right now.” he said over his comms, voice cheerful as always, though a bit strained from being tired. Energy gels would only keep him going for so long. The unspoken trust he was giving her was hopefully evident as he blinked away to rescue the twins.

When he was yelled out to get out of Amanda's sight, Rotor turned his eyes downward; he knew it was coming but it still hurt. Tina only added to it by raising a shield and promising to hunt him down. “...You don't need to waste your energy on a shield. I'm not going to hurt either of you.” he said, turning away from them. “And my number will still work if you wish to hunt me. I'm not hiding.” with that, he shifted into a car and began to speed away just as Manny appeared outside the of the twin's bubble. His Rotorbots, the ones functioning still, were recalled to go back to the deployment warehouse.

~~~~~~~~~~~
Manny arrived just after Rotor left, seeing the twins in a bubble, Amanda passed out. Tina dropped the bubble, and Manny grabbed both, asking about where Riley was. Tina scathingly told him not to worry about Riley, so he shut up and teleported them to the Medbay. Questions could come later.
Definitely later, as they appeared in the Medbay to see JC unconscious and looking to be in bad shape. Kayleb was here, and it seemed he was to be the healer. Manny did hate it when Kayleb healed people because of the pain it brought him, but they didn't seem to have a choice. Tina yelled at Kayleb to heal Amanda, who stammered JC was hurt. “Do what you need to Kayleb. Tina, on the bed, mouth shut.” Manny ordered as he put Amanda on a bed of her own. He quickly grabbed some morphine, a small but effective amount, and loaded it into a syringe. “Now be calm or I will inject you. You need to be calm, yelling is not helping them, and Kayleb is doing all he can.” he whispered to Tina, gesturing to Kayleb, who was in an inordinate amount of pain as he healed JC and then Amanda.
Manny set the syringe down and helped Kayleb to a chair as the healer finished. “Let's get you to the living room. How’re you holding up amigo?” he asked before teleporting them to the thankfully empty living room. Kayleb muttered he was okay, but it didn't take a genius to figure out he was in a lot of pain. “Here, let me see if I can find something to help.” Manny said, getting up and walking to the cupboards. Medicine did no good with Kayleb, but an icepack or heatpack could help soothe away some of the pain. Finding two medical icepacks, he crushed them to activate them and then handed them to Kayleb. “One on that leg, one on those ribs. Should numb some of the pain.” Manny said, trying to smile encouragingly. “I figured you could do with some quiet after that marathon healing.” Manny added, getting up and grabbing a glass of water for Kayleb as well.
“I would stay and make sure you are good, but I've got a rookie chasing Igasho who is chasing after a murderer, so I have to go.” he said apologetically. “You rest up.” he smiled encouragingly, patting Kayleb on the shoulder before heading into the kitchen. Three energy gels were tucked away while he ate one, and then he teleported back to the medbay. “Kayleb is good, you three rest up. And if anyone finds someone who can take over, please tell me. I'm running on E guys.” Manny said, looking around the room. With no objections, he teleported out. “Twins and The Bird are okay. Where are you, and how goes the chase?” Manny asked Elani over his communicator.
Howard lifted his son onto his knee, allowing Ryan to reach the keypad. After his father whispered the passcode into his ear, Ryan excitedly typed in the code and there was a beep as a greenlight came on. The door let out a click and slowly swung open. Ryan hurriedly scrambled off his father's lap and into the lab. There were white shelves and chrome tables, to the back of the room was a large vault door, but the best of all was the wire frame in the shape of a man.
Ryan didn't have long to weep, didn't have long to think about all the things he and his dad used to do. His warring emotions of rage and despair were interrupted in their struggle by a message that displayed on the inside of the new glasses he wore. The message spelled out,
"WARNING! Possible threat incoming!" Just as Ryan fully comprehended the message through the veil of his tears, a voice Ryan had heard somewhere before said his name. The boy turned as he stood, pressing the green button on his left wrist; the Apex suit sprang back into place immediately.
As Ryan finished standing to face the unknown entity, he said to the AI, "Wrist Cannon." The boy fluidly aimed his arm at the man who had come from inside his house as the barrels deployed. The thrill that he had felt while hunting his father's killer came back in full effect as Ryan tried to take control of the situation by use of force. The man showed no reaction to the threatening stance Apex took. Ryan used the man's lack of reaction to read the information on his HUD. It showed several pictures of the man in front of him, some of them while the man DJ'd in a club, others of him mingling with his fans. The man seemed to always have a smile on his face, but his eyes never seemed to find the camera. A blog post shot across his visor as the AI highlighted keywords. The man that approached Ryan was blind. That would explain the lack of reaction.
After a short several seconds had passed, Apex began to move. He stepped to his right slowly, putting himself closer to the tree at the front of his yard while never removing his aim from the blind man. As Ryan's movement unblocked the front window from sight, the AI outlined a small form just inside Ryan's house, showing a form of a bird, probably an owl from the shape."Ongaku Kyōshi, what are you doing here?" the suit demanded, picking up the robotic voice. The fact that the world renowned DJ was inside his home shot all kinds of red flags in Ryan's mind.
