As much as she liked to learn about the world around her, taking an actual trip to Japan on a family vacation was not exactly her idea of fun. Well she supposed that it could be fun. Going to museums, getting a first hand look at the history of the region and taking in the sights and sounds. But there were just some days where she would rather stay at home and curl up with a nice book... or work on her masterpiece! Or so maybe 'masterpiece' was a bit of a stretch. But it was her story that she had been working on for the past two years of her life. All this effort into her creation surely made it a masterpiece!

Her father and eldest sister were off kayaking, her other sister and her mother were shopping, and so Khloé had asked if she could go take a tour of some of the gardens. While hesitant to allows their youngest daughter to explore on her own, Khloé insisted that she would be able to take care of herself. She was almost fifteen which meant she was almost old enough to drive a car. Ok so that argument didn't sound good in her head and hadn't won her parents over. But she had travelled alone on her own, she had her cellphone, a map and a guide book. While she couldn't speak the language perfectly, she did know enough to ask for directions and understand them thanks to a great first year of intro to Japanese. Overall she felt confident in her abilities.

And so she had spent most of the morning exploring the beautiful gardens and temples in the area. Though around noon she'd decided to go to one of the coffee shops. This one, according to her guide book, doubled as an Internet café and so she would be able to get a quick bite and work on her story while resting her legs. Not to mention upload some pictures and rechange her phone. Little fact that she forgot to mention to her parents? The phone was dead. She was not looking forward to charging it and seeing all the messages and missed calls. Oops. Khloé hoped they weren't worried and just thought she had turned it off while in the temple or hadn't it felt it vibrating in her pocket. One could dream couldn't they?

Beside her was a delicious medium sized café mocha and a salad, and her eyebrows furrowed slightly as she read through the comments she had received on her latest chapter. Okay, so that was good. So far people were enjoying it and her favourite critique had responded again with a comment that she was looking forward to reading. Honestly, if she owed anyone for all their help it was Beta123. Whoever that person was, they were awesome. Getting to Beta's comment, Khloé eagerly began to read through it, sliding her glasses up just a bit and smiling as she eagerly responded. The purple haired girl knew she may look just a bit silly to the others as she typed away at a computer with a big smile on her face, but right now, the only thing that mattered to her was responding to her online friends.

  • Watching the pink haired girl — Meredith — walk away, Ciri wondered what was wrong with him. He should have at least introduced himself before she left, but he had kept quiet, only relaxing his hold on his book and staring after her as she departed. If someone decided to nudge him with a finger he was sure he would have fallen over — or at least stumbled! He was so distracted. Meredith was nice… just as nice as Ms. Davies was on his first day, but not as old. Still a lot older than he was, but she didn’t have any gray hair like Ms. Davies. And her eyes were lighter, but just as warm and kind. It made a small serene smile pull at his lips. She said he could find her at the Mystery Clubhouse, right? Maybe he would check it out, if only to see her again. She’d made him feel relaxed and calm and welcomed. Not so frightened and alone anymore.

Were anyone watching the dark haired boy, they would notice that his posture straightened almost imperceptibly, gone was the slouch and there was more of a confidence about him. Instead of holding his book close to his chest as if he was trying to use it to protect himself from the world and keep everyone at a distance, his arms dropped and the book rested at his side. Eyes that once darted around in fear, suddenly focused on the last few glimpses of Meredith’s retreating back before turning their green hues to the teal haired boy who stopped beside him.

It took him a moment to comprehend what was being said to him, his mind still adjusting to the sudden shift in alters, brows furrowing as he watched the lips form incomprehensible words, his mind taking a moment to catch up. "... Tomi Wakana. If you’re looking for a quiet place..." A nod. He was going to need a few minutes to deal with this headache, try to put things together. A flash of pink and a smile were two images that jumped to the forefront of his mind. It was her smile that had calmed him down. Something was being given to him and mutely he took it, staring down at the location that was circled. A map. A nearly empty café would be more quiet than a library. Less distracting at least. Another nod, a smile. "Thanks." Tomi walked off and Kyriakos was left alone once more. He placed the map carefully after the front cover of his book so he would be sure not to use it and decided that he would go explore the school grounds and try to meet some new people before getting dragged to that mandatory meeting.

tab tab tab tab tab tab tab tab Time ☯ Skip

The meeting hadn't been that bad to be honest and not terribly long. Just long enough for his leg to fall asleep. While waiting for the welcoming ceremony to begin, he did meet a few interesting students. Unfortunately he had to cut his conversation with them short once they were finally freed from the chore of having to listen to some men with the alphabet after their names give them some spiel about how Occasus was a great school and so on and so forth in an effort to welcome them. The same message that every Principal gave at every school all over the country.

After the short meeting with the school nurse, Kyriakos made his way towards the Café he was told about earlier. Why? He was curious. Wasn't there some rule given during the Welcoming Ceremony about staying on school grounds? Maybe. But he hadn't been paying too much attention to that, more interested in talking with a few other students and checking out a few funny posts others had made on Facebook on their phones. It was only when he was already on his way to the Café that he realized that he should have grabbed something to eat from the Cafeteria before he left. Ugh, that sucked. Maybe there was still something he could buy at the Café.... even if it was closed.

Stopping just outside the doors he pulled the map from his back pocket to make sure he was at the right place. Kyriakos wasn't really intending to make this a long visit so he'd left his book in his dorm room before arriving. It was just a visit to see if this was really someplace he could retreat to if he wanted a bit of silence. Golden Leaves, huh? He hoped the name had nothing to do with the price of the tea and other food stuffs inside. Trying the door he was a bit surprised to find it open. Yea, Tomi had said he could stop by, but part of him hadn't really thought the guy was serious.

Looking around, he spotted the teal haired boy making tea, he supposed. Either that or instant coffee and with the name this place had he would be surprised if it were the latter. "Hey," he greeted with a wide smile as he walked over, slipping the map back in his pocket. "Nice place. Thanks for the directions. I don't think I got the chance to introduce myself earlier. My name's Kyriakos. You can call me Kyrian if you want." He gave a slight shrug and took another look around the place. "So are you the manager or the Owner's son or something?" he couldn't imagine any other way or reason why he would come by the café on his day off. Seemed like a drag. And employees rarely got the key to the building at any rate.

Focused violet eyes trained on the screen in front of her, the cup of coffee cradled between her hands, Khloé reread the paragraph she had just written. Normally, she could fly from paragraph to paragraph without stopping to think. This time, she was having to pause, take a sip of her drink or a bite of her sandwich to think, and try to stop herself from pushing her chair back and turning to the annoying pink haired girl seated beside her and ask her to keep it down. Next time, she was going to make sure she checked the screens of the people seated beside her before taking a computer. But she hadn’t wanted to sit by herself in a corner of the café, nor had she wanted to sit beside one of the nerdy looking guys — and that last option was saying a lot. Khloé would say that she was in the latter group more often than not. She supposed she could try to hack into that other computer and get it to stop working so the girl would leave or quiet down. But that wouldn’t be nice of her. Why deprive someone else of their source of enjoyment? Although, as all the fidgeting beside her took place it was getting to be rather tempting…

Sighing, she put down her drink and pushed her glasses back up. When she got back home, she was definitely asking her parents if she could get another pair. These kept sliding down and it was so annoying to have to push them up every few minutes. Reaching for the mouse, she selected the last paragraph she had written and hit delete. Taking a deep breath, she slowly let it out and tried to concentrate and block out the other noises around her. Raising her hands, she prepared to type when suddenly the girl next to her screamed! Jumping in her seat, her tenuous hold on her concentration shattering, Khloé turned with a scowl on her face while the pink haired girl bowed and apologized. Working on a baleful glare towards the girl and her companion, Khloé abruptly turned her attention back to her screen and saved her progress. That scream was clearly a signal that it was time to go and get back to sightseeing. Besides all that conversation

Save, log out, down the last few mouthfuls of her coffee, Khloé was well on her way to leaving the Café when the other girl’s computer started making noise. Yep, definitely time to go back out for some fresh air. Who knew what would happen next.

She had just pushed back her chair a little so she could easily get to her feet, when a bright light arched over the divider between the workstations and deposited a strange looking device on her table. Almost looks like one of granddad’s old pagers, she thought before moving to pick it up. Her fingers had just touched the device, her mouth opened to ask the girl what was going on, when she felt something tugging at her. Like some strange force had reached out to grab her and she was helpless to do anything to stop it. Before she could even begin to openly question it or put her thoughts together to try to figue out what it meant, she found herself being pulled into and through the other girl’s computer screen. It was incredible! If she wasn’t the one to experience this, she would have laughed in the face of whoever was telling her this story!

When her vision cleared, she was sitting in a forested area with… what could only be described as a brown creature with a tuff of orange hair which looked like a cross between a dinosaur and ghost-seal eagerly floating towards her with a big smile on its face. Face contorted in fear, Khloé began to back away from the quickly approaching creature. ”Khloé~!” It cried.

”Go away! She shouted at the same time, closing her eyes tight and willing herself to wake up and be back in the café. Maybe in her hurry to get out of the place she had tripped and hit her head really hard. Yea, that was it.

Nevertheless, the creature continued to approach and soon it was right in front of her and chuckling. ”Why would I do that, Khloé? I’ve been waiting a long time to meet you~!”

Khloe hesitantly opened one eye and watched as the creature laughed and looked at her expectantly, ”Meet… me? Why? And how do you know my name? Who are you?” Slowly she began to relax and reached out to touch the creature with a trembling hand. It … he? looked friendly enough. And so far it hadn’t hurt her despite her screaming. The moment her hand made contact, the creature leapt into her arms with a smile.

”I’m Bukamon! Nice to meet you! Let’s go find the others! Dorimon and Motimon have probably found them by now!” Bukamon started to bounce around eagerly in her arms. ”They should be around here somewhere! Let’s go!”

Did she trust this creature. Looking around, Khloé could recognize nothing from the town she was in. Wherever she was, it was clearly undeveloped. No signs whatsoever of human life. And if people did in fact live here, it was probably in some type of hunter-gatherer society. Would Bukamon be able to lead her to other people so she could figure out exactly where she was... and how to get out of here and go back home? Her parents would be worried sick about her if she didn't call or return to the hotel later that night. Coming to a decision, she stood, watching as the water dinosaur-like creature floated out of her arms, sounding excited as he told her to follow.

That woman was beginning to get annoying and at his side, his hand twitched. Were it not for the fact that it appeared that they were waiting for the same person, he would have left her presence by now. It was… aggravating. He could avoid looking at her, ignore her completely, and still when his eyes swept the inn he would be once again reminded of her presence. She should not be here. She should be back among the trees and flowers of the forest. What would happen to her tree should anything happen to her? Irresponsible. Her challenge proved even more that she was one who should be kept out of his sight. For all she knew the one-eyed man before them was an imposter. The letter mentioned six individuals and yet, there were only thee here and the prince and his guard were who knows where. If the damned Fates had led them to this place at the same time, which apparently they did, something could have befallen the one who was missing. He could have in turn been tortured and given up information about the letter. Stick a few men with an eyepatch in the town and wait to see who shows up. Was she really in that much of a hurry to be captured by the Trects and who knows what else?

Ears flattening and moving back, his eyes dilating slightly, Rainier held his peace, resisting the urge to bite off a caustic remark. A prince and knight he may be, but there was nothing noble about him at the moment. Were it not for the fact that the nymphs were supposed to be their allies, he probably would have said a few choice words in her general direction. Nothing would prevent him from doing so later. If it turned out that he would be forced to spend any more time in such close proximity to her. Clearly, Fenris’ words about relaxing were going over the Neko’s head. He was still as tensed as he was when he first entered this Inn. His job was to end the line of Rione, not sympathize with it! If this was a trap and they thought that he was here to try to protect the prince… He wished the woman hadn’t spoken up so soon.

Blue eyes flickering between Fenris and the one eyed stranger, Rainier forced himself to relax. Deep breath, relax, too much tension could snap a cord there was no need to be so tense right now. His hand moved away from his sword. While he didn’t trust them, the one-eyed man’s words were slightly reassuring. Since Prince Fenris was the crown prince of the angels and the stranger was speaking fondly of him, that could only mean that he was, indeed, one who was working with the Prince. As far as he could recall, only the Dragons and the Riones would speak fondly of the angelic nobility, the Nymphs were not male, the gypsies wanted nothing to do with the Angels, and the Angels were enemies of the Trects. So if that were the case, then the one-eyed man was certainly a dragon. Britain’s dogs. How vile.

“Then perhaps until that time comes, we can carry on this conversation out of sight of prying eyes. There is no need to expose the Prince to any unwanted attention.” A slowly growing group of people was bound to attract attention at some point, and even if the innkeeper was in on this little meeting, Rainier could not be certain that he knew what exactly was going to be discussed. And as far as he knew, the less people who knew about this the better. And the less people would be upset when the Rione boy was met with an unfortunate accident. It would be kind if they didn’t get Britain’s hopes up.

“My name is Rainier. I destroyed my copy of the letter as well, but I can repeat it to you verbatim. I do hope you’ll excuse my earlier hostility,” though he wasn’t referring to that towards the nymph. “But I believe with the life of the Prince at stake it’s not wise to go about announcing details of this plan to anyone who walks in with an eyepatch professing to be his majesty’s guard.” While at the moment they may have the same rank, if the Prince was truly the last of the Riones, then he would be made King once the Trects were gone. And while the Nekos and Britain didn’t get along, Rainier thought it best to act as though he was willing to set the past aside and work with this mysterious male before he gave a serene smile while removing his head from his body.

  • Kyriakos grimaced hearing the description given of Mr. Larks. That was one teacher he could have done without. While he considered himself good with numbers and problem solving — maybe not top of the class but he did well enough! — , he didn’t expect to find a university-level teacher in this high school way out in the middle of nowhere. Part of him was actually hoping that was some ploy by the match club to get new members : whisper rumours about who dreadful the math teacher was and when all the first years came close to question it, hand out flyers about tutoring and the math club. It would be quite a good ploy in hi opinion. But sadly, it was a fact of the school it seemed. ”Thanks for the heads up,” he sighed. One more thing to look forward to he supposed.

It would seem that on sudden silent consensus, the tone of the conversation had changed. His posture shifting slightly in the chair, the fifteen year old’s mind worked furiously trying to figure out if he had seen the individual Tomi was describing. All that was coming clearly through the fog was a flash of pink and bright, kind blue eyes. A smile that lit up a stranger’s face and warm, welcoming words. What exactly the other student was saying wasn’t all too clear, but but he could remember… something… The image in his mind’s eye wasn’t remotely close to what had just been described. Was it a trick question or someone he had seen earlier that morning? There was too much going on earlier that day and trying to pull an image of someone Tomi may be referring to from fractured memories wasn’t something he could do on the drop of a hat.

Lips parted to say no with a slow shake of his head when he grasped another memory. The girl had looked over her shoulder. He willed his eyes to follow, but they refused to leave the singular clear image before him. If it was important, it would come to him eventually. Forcing the memories never worked. Or he could just try to find the pink haired girl again. How hard would it be to find someone with pink hair? Or was that just how he had imagined her? If he could 'imagine' two other people and have them be real as day to him, there was no doubt, he could imagine meeting a girl with pink hair with a kindly aura about her. She could have just as easily been the girl Tomi was describing! Although that, too, felt wrong. His mind was unable to grasp that as easily as the fact that Matteo and Ciri were real. A momentary conflit lit up his eyes before sound finally came from his lips, his head giving a small shake as if to emphasize his words. ”No, I don’t remember seeing anyone like that.” And it was the truth. He didn’t remember. Matteo? No, there wasn’t a harshness about the memory for it to be one of Matteo’s. Ciri then. Speak to me… he silently begged. Silence was his only answer.

Biting the inside of his cheek, he wondered what was so important about this girl. The description didn’t sound like it would be a sibling of Tomi’s or anything. Then again for all he knew they were siblings and Tomi had promised not to follow after her on her first day of high school and was trying to get information without looking like he was stalking her. Or she was the reason behind Tomi’s blushing earlier. Or it could have nothing to do with Tomi at all and it was just someone he should have seen or could have seen. What ever it was, it had something to do with theories of some sort. Unfortunately, he hadn’t bothered to look into this school’s history before he arrived, so he couldn’t even make some sort of educated guess

”Sorry. This morning was a bit busy and the description you gave is kinda general,” He gave a crooked smile and finished his cupcake. Then shot a glance at the clock on the café wall. Well he’d stayed longer than he’d been planning to, had a bite to eat, an enjoyable conversation. He was eager to get back outside, but he did want to know a little bit about this green eyed, brown haired girl. He’d feel horrible if he had said something to her this morning and she had hurried to Tomi to tell him about it. That look in the older student’s eye when he spoke of giving his club members a ban from the café made him shudder. Don’t get on Tomi’s bad side. Check. ”Is there anything particular about her? You’re not going to tell me she’s in a type of Socratic club are you? Have a feeling that we’ll be getting enough of that rom Ms. Sown. There was part of him that was interested in knowing about this girl he supposedly should have noticed and another part that felt like there as something else he should have known that was staring him right in the face.

  • He had just finished speaking to the princess when a presence stirred within the shadows behind him. He tensed slightly, beginning to form his weapon in his hand when a familiar voice reached his ears and he relaxed. Philippe was late, but he was not about to call her out on that in front of the Princess. There would always be time for that on the ride over to Uhrelia, and even if he didn’t get the chance to do so, Mattias was sure that the look he turned to level at his partner was more than enough to get the point across. “What good is a guard if they show fear when faced with new experiences and locations?” he murmured in response.

A thoughtful frown pulling at his lips when the Prince’s location was inquired about, Mattias positioned himself so that he could keep an eye on Princess Emma and speak to Philippe at the same time without backing one of them. That and he was still a bit wary of the other woman’s presence. Old habits are hard to break and this one was no exception. As for where Prince Zachariah could be, Mattias believed his friend to be in the rather secluded bit of the castle where they trained occasionally to get his thoughts in order and centre himself away from the majority of the servants and castle staff, or taking his time in arriving to the carriages, probably saddened to leave Galynia for some land he has never seen in his life. Though Mattias expected that Zachariah wouldn’t have a hard time with the experience. He was good at putting on a brave face when that was needed. With the years they had spent together, the guard was capable of deciphering how the prince was really feeling at times, but not always. Mattias liked to believe that when it was important to do so, he would be able to make the right call.

Moments later, the Prince was walking out of the darkness with a bright smile on his lips. Mattias returned the smile, briefly, then bowed politely. Just because they were friends didn’t mean that the guard would forget that Zachariah was heir to the throne and would be king one day. The thought of that was… somewhat frightening, but he tried not to dwell on it too much. Things would have to change once the prince was on the throne. The friendship that they shared now would probably become a thing of the past. It was what the other guards were starting to hint at now that the King and Prince were getting older. Right now the teal haired prince was being teasing, it seemed like it was a little more than usual, but maybe he was hiding his nervousness at being sent off to Uhrelia. It certainly couldn’t be easy for him.

”Yes, Your Highness. The carriages are packed and ready to go,” With no help from Philippe, but that was another matter. ”We await only your orders, Sir, before we depart.” He wondered if the prince and princess had had a chance to say goodbye to their parents this morning. Or had they said all that needed to be said the night before? Either way, they probably only had a few more minutes here before they had to leave or fear being late to their destination. And that certainly wouldn't create a good impression of Galynian nobility.

His eyes wandered away from the others to the mountains that surrounded their kingdom, and the dark imposing castle before them. It was a place he had called home for as long as he could remember. Trips any great distance away from the castle had been rare, even more so once Lunesta withdrew from the war. While earlier he had claimed that guards should be courageous, in truth, he was feeling a little apprehensive about this. The lack of information was bothering him, but he kept his face impassive, not a trace of the nervousness displayed on his features.

Unless there was a sudden change of plans, he would be riding outside the carriage and for that he was grateful : he liked to be able to see the road ahead so he could warn the others or do what was necessary to protect the royals instead of only be able to react once the threat had fully revealed itself. ”If Your Highness trusts that everything is in order, I believe that we should leave for Uhrelia as soon as possible. We have a long journey ahead of us and it would be ideal if Your Highnesses could get a chance to rest before dinner.” And meeting the other royal children. But he left that bit out so that they hopefully wouldn't think too much about their upcoming betrothals. Princess Emma was worried enough without the reminders.

  • After a series of what Kyrian could only call curious events, they had arrived at the clubhouse and the first year was asking himself, 'What is Tomi's deal with trees?'. While he probably shouldn't ask given his own troubles, Kyrian was almost positive he wasn't the only one puzzled by the other student's behaviour. And with a fear that was so severe, he wondered how there were even any tress left standing! But maybe he was being extreme.

A cursory look around the room revealed curious and skeptical faces of the other potential new recruits, and a sense of hopefulness and barely contained excitement from some of the older students. As the rather overconfident looking male commenced the small meeting, Kyrian's eyes stopped their observation of the room and focused on the club president for a moment before being pulled to the prink haired girl at the president's side. So he hadn't been imagining things. She really did exist. He stared blankly at her as she smiled and waved, his hands remaining in his pockets. The smile was the same as the one in that sliver of a memory that he was able to hold onto. The longer he stared, the more he was beginning to feel the start of a headache and he tore his yes away, glancing at the people around her, just to make sure there were others who acknowledged her presence. He'd read about people who had alters who were different from their stated gender. The fact that others appeared to see her as well erased his fear and he relaxed. Although the headache persisted.

When another girl stepped forward, Kyrian realized that she was the girl Tomi had been referring to. He was certain he had never seen Zhen prior to arriving in this room. At her question, everything within him was telling him to pick normalcy, the unknown was something he should avoid. Even more so if the power Tomi had demonstrated earlier came from this girl. Before he knew it, the meeting was over and they were being allowed to speak to some of the club members. Kyrian watch while Tomi went over to a stove and called some other with him and while he was curious to see what they were going to do (especially since he didn't see what good someone who could turn items to gold would be when doing anything mechanical), he also wanted to talk to Zhen and figure out what exactly she was offering before he retreated to the library for awhile. Instead, a voice close to him caught his attention and he was looking into the grinning face of the pink haired girl. "Uh... It's okay. You have a job to do an' all." Who was she? He wished he could remember more than the general sound of her voice, her smile and her eyes.

"My name's Kyrian. Hope you don't mind me asking, but what's your name again? I'm sorry to have to ask, but I'm terrible with names." He laughed self-deprecatingly, taking a hand from his pocket and nervously rubbing the back of his neck, trying to look a little embarrassed about it. In truth, he was usually really good at remembering names and putting names to faces. It was only a problem after he had those weird headaches and after blackouts. Still, he smiled and tried to act as if he had suddenly remembered that they had spoken that morning and what they were speaking about. She probably expected Ciri though it was a bit too late to pretend to be someone he wasn't. And if she had been speaking to Ciri this morning, she probably helped him in some way, right? That was probably a safe assumption. "I'm not sure. I was speaking with Tomi at the café and he showed me something, but he never explained why you guys have these powers. Well, if that was even something supernatural like he claimed and not some really good slight of hand. And there's something more to Zhen's gift, right? Gifts aren't just given for no reason." There was always something that would be required in exchange. Especially for a power like that.

He would have asked something else, but another guy suddenly interrupted the conversation, a cellphone placed in front of the VP's face and an announcement that whoever was on the phone was named Loralyn. Did he get a girlfriend or something over the summer? Or was that the name of a new puppy? He didn't know this guy either so it was probably best to stay silent and wait till they were finished before butting in. Green eyes stayed focused on the new guy, trying to get some sort of read of him. Seemed quiet, non threatening. Probably no one to worry about. And if he was friends with this girl then maybe he was just as nice as she was.

  • The princess was about to make this entire meeting worthwhile. ‘Go ahead, say it,’ he silently taunted. Unfortunately, with Remus’ whispered words and the King speaking up once more, she decided against it. He sighed, and decided that later he would get his chance. He was half paying attention to what the King was saying, his mind already wandering elsewhere. Unfortunately, Aniketos had returned and somehow lost two of the gems. Maybe a third if Kyrinthis didn’t recover. Hell if he know how this thing worked. The job was supposed to be simple : retrieve the royals, bring them back to Hentor. How the king went about extracting the gems was none of his concern. As long as Kyrin survived the process.

The sound of shattering glass startled him, and his head shot up a quick shield springing to life around him to keep the shards of glass away. Psych always knew how to make an entrance. The wave of power knocked him back half a step and in that time a clone of the assassin was before him with her weapon drawn. A quick glance to the side confirmed that there were others that were created for Eleanora and Aniketos. He was certain that the latter could take care of himself, however he didn’t particularly like to see Eleanora in melees. Especially against someone like Psykhe. Clone or not, Styxx knew that without a weapon in hand, El would have a difficult time with this fight. However, he couldn’t waste time worrying about her right now and if she died, that was something else he could hold against Psykhe. “You were supposed to make sure she didn’t get hurt,” he murmured, his eyes dark with anger. In the past his anger had rarely been directed at her. She gave him what he wanted and he was satisfied. Now things were different and unlike the last time they met, he wouldn’t toy with her. Remus might get off this time because of Danielle, but Psykhe wouldn’t.

The fight had barely started when it ended. Suddenly and with an explosion of sound and energy. He was thrown, sent flying off his feet and away from his opponent. There was no time to think, too startled to even create a shield to soften the blow. What could have been seconds felt like minutes and then with a thud there was nothing but darkness and silence.

A dry heat welcomed him back to consciousness. Beneath him was hot sand, above him a blood red sky as the sun made it’s way below the horizon, not a cloud in sight. Left and right was nothing but sand, sand, and more sand. A dry ocean with no relief to be seen. And with this understanding came knowledge. He’d been here before and it had been such a dreadful experience he had hoped never to have to return. Sector 5, Orissh, the desert world. Getting to his feet, he dusted himself off and brushed sand from his hair and off his face. Those damned mages… There was no portal to be seen and no way out so far. Consulting the ring on his finger indicated that there were no other riders close by and he couldn’t sense any other supernatural beings in the vicinity. He scowled, looking at the male and female who were resting together on the sand. He had no quarrel with Aniketos and though he didn’t know the prince all too well, Styxx wasn’t offended at his presence. It was the princess who he wished had been thrown into some other portal. Although he supposed that it was for the best. At least he could have an easy snack this time…

“There’s no portal and no one else is here, but us.” Well that last bit wasn't entirely truthful. There were others around, but they had simply not made their presence visible or they had not yet run into each other. The planet wasn't entirely deserted. They needed to get moving, and find some shelter for the night, figure out what they had and find a way out of here or a water source. He was not about to die in this desolate place where there was absolutely nothing to see. “You’re in Sector Five… Princess.” He tried to soften his voice, not spit the title at her, but he was sure his disdain still came through quite clearly. At least he didn’t really have to befriend her to get what he wanted from her. “Though I believe the local name for this world is Orissh.” Keeping his eyes fixed on Noa who he believed would be more of a flight risk than the Aniketos, he wanted to make sure she didn’t get the idea to run away; it might be detrimental to her health. “Prince Aniketos is correct; the faster we find shelter the better. It is not only the heat of the day and the cold of the night we need to be wary of.”

They needed water, they needed to find a town, and they needed to avoid the pirates at all cost. “Whatever injuries you have, we can deal with them later. We’ll be too exposed when the temperature drops if we deal with them now.” Hopefully she would be okay until they found someplace to rest for the night. Styxx’s eyes flickered to Aniketos. Hopefully they would both survive as he was not about to waste energy taking care of them. Without another word, he stepped away to collect a few stones and debris to make a marker. He would prefer not to have to resort to this and find someway that was a little more subtle, but if anyone came looking for them, it was best to leave some sort of trail so they could be found. Granted that would also alert any of the nomadic tribes and any other hostile out here where they were… It would have to do for now until they found another way.

  • Being told to wait was not what the princess wanted to hear. How could she at a moment like this? For the first time since adopting her new philosophy on life she was going to step in before the universe could finish what it started. Even the thought of healing Kyrinthis made her feel like she was committing some cardinal sin and she prayed the Universe would forgive her. Although she opened her mouth to protest, there was really no need as the King spoke up, at first admonishing the man who was holding a bruised and battered Kyrin in his arms then sending him, Remus -- who she supposed was her guard -- and her to another room, which would allow her to heal Kyrin before it was too late. Looking over her shoulder before she left the room, she gave the King a thankful smile. So what if Mali said that the King was supposedly bad? He was letting her try to heal Kyrin and that was what was most important.

The happy thoughts didn't last long once she discovered that she was unable to use her powers. How was she even supposed to heal if she couldn't even access the source of her healing ability? With a sigh she turned to the man apparently named Mikhail and was about to ask that she be allowed water and use of her powers when there was a commotion in the other room. The sudden unexpected noise drew the four of them back towards the door to see what was going on and the instant Danielle caught sight of the fight that was well on its way she wished she hadn't. Why did everything about this world seem to revolve around violence? Couldn't any of them ever reach a peaceful solution to their problems? It didn't seem to matter which world she found herself in there was nothing but violence and strife around her. She felt herself choking on tears, it hurt to breathe. No! It wasn't tears she was choking on, she was actually being choked by some psychic force!

Danielle reached out to Remus beside her, her face panicked and about to ask for help, but it took too long to convert thought to action. The pain blossomed into existence before her eyes, with a deafening sound and enough force to knock what little wind that remained out of her. Her last thought before once more being submerged in darkness was, 'Why me?'

Unlike the last time she awoke, this time it wasn't the gentle murmur of conversation but something that sounded like the calming sound of waves she heard when she was underwater. A sound which she felt like she hadn't heard in a long time. She smiled, relaxed and unconcerned as she opened her eyes and looked around. Only then, once she saw the water surrounding her on all sides, did reality hit her. Air. She was going to need air! She couldn't breathe underwater! Holding her breath, she looked around in a panic. Where was everyone? Was she the only one here? Her eyes finally came to rest on the form of the guy from earlier and she hurriedly swam over to him. She had to get them both to the surface! As she got closer, her eyes landed on what looked like a tail where his legs should be. The lack of air was getting to her. She was seeing things. Right?

Not really knowing the reason why, she slowed and straightened so that she could look down at her legs and was startled to realize that she, too, had a tail. "What in the world...?" Her hands flew to her mouth and it took her a second to realize that while her throat still hurt from earlier, she wasn't choking on the water. Strange... Maybe it was because of the gem inside of her? Her hand slowly moved to touch her neck and she was relieved to know that the collar was no longer there. While getting it off was painful, she did owe whoever did it her thanks. Continuing over to Remus, Danielle wondered if he was able to breathe underwater as well. He looked like one of the mermen from The Little Mermaid so she didn't see why not. And his chest looked like it was rising and falling evenly so that was a good sign. "Are you okay?" She asked, giving his shoulder a small shake. Even though Mali and Psykhe said that the Black Riders were dangerous, in a strange place that turned them into merpeople, he was her greatest ally : he probably knew how to fight and defend himself and he needed to keep her alive for the king. So until she got back to the group, Danielle was sticking to him like glue!

          • It felt like had been so long since he had last been in Korrin. This miserable place was surely cursed by the gods in the distant past. A desolate, harsh, unforgiving, merciless landscape greeted all who set foot upon its shores. Outside a few outposts scattered haphazardly throughout the landscape there was nothing to see, and the humans who were forced to settle in this inhospitable place were hardly worth mentioning. They were a threat to no one and were it not for the abundance of minerals and ores that could be found here, it would hardly even be worth raiding from time to time or even setting up a business. But now there was another reason to come here, one more pressing and important than all the rest.

Currently in a small outpost outside of the capital, Myradis, Zephaniah scanned the wares on display as he walked through a market. His source had revealed that the first of the five staffs were were in this damned country and so he had his mercenaries spread out and looking for it. He was personally offering a very generous reward as an incentive to the first who could locate the staff or any information that would lead directly to its exact location. It bothered him that the hint he was given wasn’t more specific and scrying wasn’t yielding him anything either. It was as though the gods made sure to veil the location of the staffs from all forms of magic. But then he wouldn’t have been interested if this was easy.

“Don’t even think of straying, b***h.” While there was certainly more than one female among the mercenaries, there was only one that he had his eyes on at the moment. A pink haired thorn in his side who refused to yield and constantly made his life a ******** hell. He should kill her for her insubordination but it he took no pleasure in killing someone who he had not yet broken. Of course there were exceptions to that rule, especially when an individual completely ******** up his plans, but so far, Meredith had been… useful. Such a lucky b***h. Now if only he could pull her into his cabin one night. “We have a job to do and I’m not going to let you ******** this up. The only reason you’re not chained up in the ship is because you know this ******** wasteland better than all of us.” Yes, Zeph would admit to that. He also couldn’t resist giving her a feral grin as he mentioned her being tied up in the ship, the cold metal against her tender flesh, the defiance in her eyes. It was exciting. Although humans ranked rather low on his list of interesting creatures, he’d made a point of branching out a bit since he’d widened his network. Now that decision was paying off.

But how long was this ******** trip going to take? The sound of children laughing as they raced past, the shouts from the vendors as they called out to the passerby, trying to sell their wears, was getting annoying. While there were some silks that were of superior quality that he would procure at a later time, at the moment, he wasn’t interested and so he worked on blocking it out, at least partially. He had to concentrate on the task at hand and keeping an eye on the flighty minx of a dancer. At some point they were going to have to try to find a temple of Devi or Sira. They were said to be the two gods primarily revered by the Humans. And while looking for a staff in a temple seemed to be an obvious choice, sometimes it was because of that very simplicity that things were overlooked. And if what he was seeing wasn't there, then it was no skin off his back : at least they looked and wouldn't regret not having spent a few minutes in the empty temple. Maybe he would bring one of the gods an offering.

He gave a low, derisive chuckle at the thought then spat. He couldn't even remember the last time he ever made an offering. Maybe when he was living on the outskirts of Escallia.... The memory was unimportant. Zephaniah pushed some people out of his way who were moving a bit too slowly for his liking. Whether they said something to him in anger or in surprise, he ignored it; he didn't have time to deal with those imbeciles. A book seller, a tavern or an inn was what he was looking for. Or even some beggar who had a sharp look to his eyes. Zeph's eyes fell on some curious devices displayed a table, then to the man behind it who was explaining how something worked. There was such a strength to these people. Maybe it was rather fortunate that none save a very few possessed any magical ability. Not that they could even be a threat to him. "Where is Devi's temple?" A man who overheard pointed in the general direction of the temple and Zeph gave a quick nod. After they finished here, that would be their next stop if there was nothing worthwhile to be gained from this part of town.

  • Wings beat strongly as she rose in the air, catching an updraft and going higher still. The day was young and there was still plenty of time before she had to be at headquarters for the start of the mission. And it was a mission she had been looking forward to for years. Finally she would be able to work with her older brother to rid Jarda of yet another demidian. The wording on the scroll suggested that this was one that they had faced before and had been unsuccessful in defeating. A dangerous one then. A smile spread across her face at the thought of facing someone so challenging in battle. The only one who she could say she looked forward to sparring was the bloodthirsty female demon. While she knew it was her job as a peacekeeper to make sure that particular demon wasn't able to terrorize any innocent civilians in the future, the demon always managed to force her to retreat or slip away. This mission would hopefully allow her to get some practice in. She craved a worthwhile opponent. Someone to challenge her. As of late, she didn't even have to break a sweat! Her training partners had been weak, the demons weaker still. Ravan had finally answered her prayers and given her what she wanted. What she needed.

Slow down, deep breath. She released it in a content sigh while adjusting her wings and beginning a brief descent. As a member of the Grey family, Loralyn felt as though she, and other family members, had a better connection to the wind than any one else. It was the wind that inspired her, that fought at her side, warned her of trouble and was quick to come to her aid. Ravan's strong winds lent her the strength of the mightiest hunter and that was what she was going to be. Catching another breeze, Lora made her way back up, weaving in and out of the clouds. The wind in her face and the gentle rustle of her feathers as they cut through the air was a beautiful feeling. A caress that made her feel alive, a pulse that hammered through her veins spurring her to new heights, a voice that made all her senses tingle and reminded her, without ever having to raise its voice, of its power and might.

Despite the slight dizziness, the headache that lingered and discomfort in her muscles, she was ready as anything for this day to get started. It probably would have been best if she stayed in bed a little while longer and went straight from home to headquarters, but being high up in the sky and stretching her wings was something the young angel loved above all else. That and she really had to make that offering to Ravan to thank him for giving her this opportunity. Her mother claimed she should be more thankful. The young lady was making an attempt. Normally she did the very minimum the law required and that was all, trusting that her own skills and abilities would help her to accomplish her goals. They had in the past and she didn't see why they wouldn't now.

Tucking in her wings, she made a slight adjustment of her body and fell into a free fall. It was exhilarating, relying on nothing but very slight adjustments of her wings and body to control herself as she plunged from the skies. Her smile grew into a grin as she fell and she held back on the childish urge to hoot in laughter. Even after all these years, the feeling of falling, of feeling out of control, was like a new high each time. As she drew closer to the ground, laughter bubbled up at the surge of adrenaline she felt, hopefully it would be just enough to help her shake away the effects of the night of bliss and partying. The ground below was approaching quickly and suddenly spreading her wings, she caught the wind to keep herself aloft, just above the tree line outside of headquarters. Catching sight of the look on the faces of a few angels below her, the girl let out a hoot of laughter. Now that was a way to start off the morning! Those guys really had to learn how to live a little!

Slowing even more for a landing, Loralyn's feet lightly touched the ground and once confident about her balance, she started to walk towards the door, tossing her windswept hair back over her shoulder. She'd arrived. As she neared the door, she drew in her wings, white stained with grey, and hid them away. In her mind, the grey in her wings was a sign that she was willing to do what was necessary to protect her people and protect those who were preyed upon by the demons and correct the Mistakes that others had made in their sin. Unlike a certain other angel who was supposedly next in line for the throne and with wings so pure she wondered if he was even ready or capable of making hard decisions.

"Too late for that brother dearest~!" she cooed walking up behind him, heeled boots clicking on the floors and a wide grin on her face. Coming to a stop beside the table they were gathered around, she rested a slender hand on a cocked out hip. "Sasha, Remus, it's great to see you again. I trust you've been well. Now what can you tell me about this demidian? Sounds like you guys have had to face him a few times without much success." It hardly seemed possible, but her grin widened even more and turned just a bit feral. Oh, she couldn't wait to go out on this hunt! "I hope today, Ravan will bless our hunt and we'll have success."

  • A gentle smile curved the tips of his lips upwards as he watched Meredith and Cyrus together. They looked like they were really close friends and the gentle teasing was nice to see. It was small things like this that helped ease the transition into a new school. He never really worried about whether or not he would be lonely as he never really was no matter what time of day it was, but it was a good sign : at least the people here were friendly and if he ever did need any help the older students weren’t a tight knight group that was impossible to penetrate. His smile, however, faded almost instantly, the colour draining from his face as soon as Meredith mentioned the word “survive”. People died in this. While not permanently, the thought was terrifying. Cyrus said that Zhen was able to use some magic to stop people from really seeing what was going on, so maybe that same magic would be able to erase the memory. Still, he wouldn’t like to be in those last few seconds where he knew his life was about to end. Even with the knowledge that somehow the final blow wouldn’t be a permanent one, he was sure that in that critical moment, the knowledge would evade him. He wouldn’t be able to see past his imminent destruction.

A headache was starting to work its way back into the forefront of his mind and he took deep breaths trying to relax. Relax. Close your eyes for a moment, take deep breaths and try not to think aout it too much. As nice as everyone was, they were insane to willingly join this kind of club. And yet, listening to them and seeing the way they acted among each other didn’t seem insane. Was he really willing to pay such a high price for a chance at good luck for the rest of his life? Letting out a breath, he opened his eyes again and met Cyrus’ own. No, it wasn’t that big of a price. Yes, the fear in that moment would be immense if he realized it was happening, but there was still the knowledge that afterwards he would be alright. He wouldn’t be in the running for good luck anymore, he probably may have done a few things he wasn’t too proud of, but he probably wouldn’t remember it. At least he hoped that was the case. And therein lay a problem. He didn't like not remembering things. There was already so much he couldn't remember. What had he done last night? The day before yesterday? A few seconds of a memory was no good.

Now, he would put the thoughts aside to ponder it later as Meredith looked like she was finally ready to begin her demonstration. From a pocket she pulled out a few small seeds and Kyrian’s eyes narrowed as he watched her closely. Seeds meant plants, so thankfully this wasn’t going to be some fashion based skill. Knowing what he did now, there was probably some dangerous element to all of the skills Zhen gifted. He was wary of being deceived like he suspected he had been in the café. But even the fastest of hands couldn’t braid, plant seeds, and make them sprout in such a fashion the way Meredith was. The flowers weren’t appearing fully formed in Cyrus’ hair. No, they were going through a rapid growth cycle before his eyes. His lips formed a silent, ‘wow’, his expression one of amazement. That was unbelievable! And when Cyrus turned slightly so that he could examine the final product, Kyrian gave his head a small shake in silent disbelief.

“Thanks for showing me your powers, Mer,” he said with a smile. One which turned amused when Cyrus spoke up once more. He could understand people wanting to keep things to themselves. Better than most, he believed. “Well alright. Didn’t hurt to ask.” And once more he was being tossed a bone and it felt like the rest of the the club was watching to see if he would bite. He would be lying if he said that it wasn’t tempting. But he had to be absolutely certain of this.

Now that he was sure that this wasn’t some kind of big hoax, he had no real interest in watching the end of the other demonstration that was happening in the room. Instead, he wanted a bit of time to think it over and try to get a feel for the club. His question about how time consuming and how much of a commitment he would have to make went unanswered, but when asked if there was anything else he wanted to know about he simply shook his head. So far Meredith and Cyrus had made a good impression on him, and by the end of the day he was sure that he would be handing in a completed club form. “Thanks again for answering my questions. I'm going to head over to the caf and think about it.” And hopefully try to find the guys he was with earlier that day. A look out the window revealed that it was storming outside and he made a face. He supposed he would have to run through the rain; he couldn’t imagine staying in here any longer. It was their first day of school, a free day to do whatever he wished and he wasn’t going to spend it in a club room when the other people he would have wanted to talk to about the club had already left. This made it was the perfect opportunity to meet new people and well, other than the guy by the window, everyone else seemed rather busy.

Well... he supposed that would be a start. He could kill a few minutes in here and hope that the rain lightened up so he wouldn't be soaked to the bone when he went out. And if it didn't? Maybe he could talk the other guy into walking out with him so he wouldn't look like the only idiot to be caught out in the rain without an umbrella. With a slight nod to himself as if coming to a decision, he turned towards the guy at the window and greeted him with a smile. "Hey, what's up? You look a bit spaced out. The assertion this club makes is kind of hard to believe, huh?"

"You're damn right, b***h," he muttered keeping his eye on the way she was moving through the crowd. If it even looked for one fraction of a second that she was going to escape, he'd just have her captured, bound and tossed back on the ship. Capturing her had been had been the easy part, now that he thought of their history together. Breaking her and keeping her under his thumb was a challenge he had not been expecting, but one he relished. The more they struggled the better they were and their death all the more satisfying. "The ******** do I need you for? I would have found my way with or without your help. You're just accelerating the process." And then she called him Zephie, the cutesy nickname was like acid on his tongue, it burned and even thinking that she would have dared to call him that — in public no less! — made his blood boil. Zephaniah let the dark embers smoulder, in his mind he was imagining the way her tender skin would feel beneath his hand, the way the tender cartilage of her neck would submit tot he pressure, the look of fear in her eyes when she realized that he was not letting go and this time it was more than just a fruitless warning. This would bet the time where he followed through on his threats and allowed the sea to be the final resting place of one more soul. He would cherish seeing that look in her eyes, the chocked sound of her voice as she begged for forgiveness. It was such a provocative thought and with reluctance, he extinguished the flame.

"One more ******** up and you won't be leaving Korrin once we get what we came for." Should he have told her that the reason she wouldn't be leaving was because her body would be left rotting out in the desert somewhere? Perhaps, but it would be far more exciting to see her get her hopes up and then be brought down to nothing. Though it really would be a shame not to taste her first. Oh well. "The locations of the known staffs may be in the hands of the rulers, but it is the rulers who are spearheading the other groups in their search. This leads me to believe that the rest are in far more mundane locations." And where better to hide something than in plain sight. People would become habituated to seeing it in a certain spot. Think it nothing more than an ornament used to honour the immortal.

While at the moment finding the staffs was his top priority, it was the challenge that was tied to the claiming of the staff that took up the bulk of his research. Devi's staff, the one they were currently interested in, was known as the staff of heart. Whatever challenge attached to it was one he suspected Meredith would be able to pass with ease. It was why he was almost reluctant to be rid of her at this point. Ashura was useless to him at the moment unless they somehow stumbled upon one of the other staffs that required a bit more strength and less finesse. As for the others? They were lacking in the qualities the pink haired b***h possessed in abundance. In fact, what he was able to learn about the self-righteous immortal made him even more pleased with the foresight he had when he abducted Meredith. He'd use her, be rid of her, and not even bat an eye.

"Ashura, make sure you do not forget to procure something for the offering. Devi is your traditional immortal so I'm sure you can find something to please the fickle woman." Besides, Zeph had no idea what any of the immortals preferred as tokens of appreciation. Why would he when he was determined to be nothing more than a constant thorn in their side, bring nothing but ruin and fear wherever he went. "Once the offering is made, we will talk to the temple workers. One of them, surely, must know something more about the staffs and have some books we can study," he smirked as the temple became visible in the distance as another thought struck him. "Or we can simply steal the scrolls and temple gold. Maybe with the scrolls you can practice your reading, b***h. Your skills appear to be quite lacking." And the gold? There was always someone willing to pay a high price for temple goods.

  • Oh, did she ruin their happy little planning meeting? Lora was so incredibly sorry for interrupting, but it was on the king’s orders. She gave Sasha an innocent look, almost as if to say that if she had a choice in the matter she would have left their squad alone and gone to meet up with her friends and some other peacekeepers for a more interesting mission. But maybe this was Marbas’ way of giving her a break. She had already broken down once and as much as she would prefer to forget about that incident, maybe the King saw something that she didn’t and was trying to make sure she would be okay. Whatever the case may be, she had a job to do here and she wasn’t going to let anything or anyone get in the way. She was going to make sure Cyrus was able to complete this mission to perfection!

She was a bit surprised when her brother pulled out the last bun from his bag and passed it to her, and her expression softened, her stance becoming much less confrontational. If he was giving this to her then what was he going to eat? She couldn’t very well take his breakfast from him! Tearing the bun in half, Loralyn gave him the bigger portion and a kind smile as she mouthed her thanks. Cyrus was always looking out for her and sometimes she considered herself lucky to have such a great big brother. At other times, she wished that he took his job a little more seriously. Being a Grey was more than just having a well known surname : there were important responsibilities that went along with it and —

“Excuse me?” Had she heard what Remus said correctly? He didn’t want her to ask any questions? While that order usually didn’t do much to upset her, Remus’ tone was a little more than upsetting. She wanted to cut in and say more but Remus was already moving on and Loralyn was left clutching the half of the bun in her hand and grinding her teeth together. By the time she even realized what she was doing, the bread would be nothing more than crumbs. And the more she heard about the plan and the reason they had all been failing time after time, the more pissed off she was. “I can’t believe this! Why would you keep a Mistake that the King has ordered eliminated alive? We’re peacekeepers! We owe the king our loyalty!” Shaking her head, she turned to Cyrus who was so easily going along with the plan, standing tall and making use of every bit of height at her disposal to stare her brother down. “And you should know that better than most. The King is no fool.” They couldn’t really be having this conversation! She’d been so excited to hear that she would be working with her brother today, thinking that she would be facing a demidian that was actually worth her time and effort, only to find out that he was probably nothing more than a weakling that her brother, the heir apparent, and Sasha — how had they conned a Megalos into going along with this?

Turning angry eyes to the other girl Lora wondered why she would go along with such a treasonous act. A few seconds of staring into a determined face and she allowed her posture to sag slightly. They were so lucky she wasn’t in the mood to argue right now, not with this horrible pounding in her head. “…. I don’t like this,” she muttered. But she was going to pretend to go along with it and do everything in her power to make sure Leon was dead. It was what the King wanted and she wasn’t going to allow her brother to lie to the king and have to deal with whatever consequences may come from his actions. She was doing this to protect him and that was it. After all the times that Cyrus had been there for her she owed him this much. If Leon died it would be perfect, but if the others stopped her at least she can say she gave it her best shot and hope her brother would as well. They couldn’t lie, they couldn’t protect a group of demons and demidians for some ill conceived plan concocted by a shiftless, good-for-nothing, angel. “But I hope you know what you’re doing.” Looking down at her clenched hands and forcing them open, one had deep nail marks in the palm and the other had bread crumbs that were tumbling to the floor while her hands trembled slightly. Wonderful. Not only did she take half of her brother’s breakfast, but his donation was worthless now. Ugh! Heels clicking sharply on the ground and her body language doing nothing to hide her displeasure, she went over to a trash bin and tossed what remained of the bread. She just had to remember that she was only going through with this so she could have a chance to protect her brother. She didn’t owe Remus or Sasha her loyalty.

  • From the moment the first bell rang, Kyriakos had been entirely focused on his studies. English, math, science, phys. ed. — a whirlwind of activity and information. It was engrossing, consuming, he loved it. Just as it was every year, Gym class was the highlight of his day. There was another girl there, he remembered seeing her during that introductory club meeting the day before, who seemed just as competitive as he was and Kyrian was even more determined to step up his game. Sports were always more fun when there was someone he could compete against. Talking to her after class, however, was a little more challenging and while he would have been interested in getting to know her better, he instead moved onto other people. The last bell was far too sudden and unexpected as he'd been working through the review problems for math class. They were easy enough and didn't take much effort, but still he'd jumped and was hurrying to pack up his things and leave to try to avoid being the last one out the door. No such luck.

He had half hour to kill before going to the Mystery Clubhouse and submitting the club form but he still wasn't certain he wanted to join. Last night had been difficult, restless. He felt torn between signing up and being involved in something that could potentially force him to harm other people, but he did want the good luck. He'd give his right arm to see his parents back together. No matter how much they fought and how loud it got sometimes, he wanted his parents together. He just wished he knew a way to make it happen without feeling like someone was shaking him violently and yelling at him every time he saw his mom. Would it all be worth it? Could he really pull through and make it? If Meredith could do it, then so could he. At least that was what he said to himself. If someone so kind was comfortable with it there had to be a way to get through without having to... kill... another student. The memory of it would weigh heavily on his already troubled mind for years if it came to that.

Before he knew it, he was standing in front of the clubhouse door and walking in. Once everyone was gathered, club forms were taken and he took a seat when instructed. Kyrian was fidgeting nervously with his sleeve while Damon spoke. He felt selfish, this couldn't be the right choice. He should have just found another way to deal with his personal problems as doing things the easy way more often than not lead to more problems than it was worth. So engrossed was he with his thoughts that he didn't even notice when Damon stopped speaking and Zhen opened her mouth. Soon, the restless thoughts stilled and the fidgeting quieted, his body going limp in the chair, his eyes getting heavy and he was fast asleep.

I'm sorry... Were the last and only words he could remember from the dream. A memory from his past, something he remembered but not quite. Another piece of the puzzle recovered, but without a reference image it was meaningless. Groggy and rubbing his eyes, he looked around wondering if what Zhen had said was really so boring that he had fallen asleep while listening. It took Kyrian a moment before he realized that he hadn't been the only one asleep. What on Earth just happened? Panic threatened to grip him, but then he remembered Damon had said something about them falling asleep when Zhen spoke. That was all that had happened. The room was mostly quiet as the other new members woke up and then one of the girls from his homeroom who looked as though she was being forced to eat something bitter at all hours of the day asked a question about their powers and Kyrian wasn't too thrilled with the answer. "What do you mean weeks?" The question came out a little more sharply than he would have liked, a strange mix of anger and cautiousness in his eyes. "She's going to give us these powers and tell us nothing about how to use them and what we were gifted with? What if we hurt ourselves on accident?" or worse, someone else? And what kind of tests exactly? Kyrian didn't like this, not knowing things. In fact, he hated it. He hated having something that he couldn't control or wasn't aware of. There was too much of that going on in his life already. It was on the tip of his tongue to demand that they tell him what he was capable of doing. Right now. He had to be able to control this. And more importantly, Matteo and Ciri had to be able to control this. He did not sign up for something only to be told that his power could show up at any time and he would have no control over it. He needed control, structure, and stability. Not now... Please not now! The more he worried, the more he felt like his head was about to split. Of all days to leave his pain meds in the dorm!
