- ♈ tab A centuries old lore still surrounds bits of nordic cultures that are still around today, legends and myths about a world long lost to the present where vikings sailed the oceans and conquered the lands, and after the end of a war that spanned over two very different cultures, vikings took hold of the skies as well, with dragons. It is an old legend, a tall tale, a story that some have passed down to their children and grand children, just as a bed time story, but little do most people know that that legend is true.
The island of Berk was a dwindling existence for vikings with the raging war between the warriors and the dragons that burned their homes and attacked their own, and just when it might have been believed that the culture would perish at the claws of those mighty beasts that only seemed to grow in numbers while they diminished, a young boy, and a young dragon, managed to work together and end the war, bringing peace to those two cultures, and bringing them together. Their legacy lived on for many, many years after as Berk had become the beacon of peace between dragons and humans, but just as all old cultures come to pass, the island of Berk has long since been forgotten, and abandoned, leaving evidence to believe that the once great civilization had died out, and was left to become nothing more than lore.
It is now present day, with thriving new cultures in every corner of the world, but where as some things have yet to be discovered by those who explore the world, one of the greatest secrets to ever remain out of reach of most of man kind is the fact that far north on an uncharted series of islands in the arctic ocean, north of Iceland and between Greenland and Svalbard. This series of islands remains untouched by outsiders, and out of sight of those searching for the next lost culture, for this culture holds the greatest secret known to mankind, the still living and existing race of dragons.
Because Berk had raised so much attention for itself being the island of peace and meaning to bring all Nordic cultures together with dragons, over the years the island grew uninhabitable by the growing number of residents and dragons depleting the resources, and with the growing expansion of outside cultures trying to increase their lands and improve their maps, it came to pass that their way of life and their knowledge of dragons would be detrimental to outsiders, so they left the island, and moved further north to uncharted waters that are little touched by any others. Since then, the culture has thrived, and they have bettered themselves and kept their way of life preserved and protected for centuries now.
In recent times though, it has become increasingly more and more difficult to keep their ways perserved and out of the reach of the outside world, and though it is a difficult, and otherwise dangerous idea, it has come to pass that they might need to allow themselves to be seen by the outside world so they won't have to fear for their exposure, but no one is certain how those who have never even thought to believe that dragons might exist might take to seeing the fire breathing creatures right in front of their eyes. It took years of development while trying to convince different factions of their island cultures that exposing themselves to the outside world would be beneficial, but it has finally been decided that a select few of those outsiders are going to be brought to the island in order to see if they might be able to adapt to their ways of life on the islands. It's thought to be a fool's effort by most, but most of those who consider it to be a lost cause are afraid to admit that life as they know it might be being threatened again with the mere notion that they can't hide from the outside world forever.
There are many descendants of the Berkian tribe that live amongst those in the normal cultures of the world, but they are probably unaware of their deep Nordic ancestry and viking heritage as it has been centuries since then, but a small select group of those descendants have been located and chosen specifically for the opportunity to start melding their hidden world with that of the outside. They are all young so as to be more open minded with the concept, but are old enough to be out on their own and eligible for the guise of their masked invitation in the form of an internship for studying abroad for educational credits. These seven students have been chosen to come out north to the arctic ocean to study abroad, where little do they know they could be the key to bringing two cultures together again, just as their ancestors had so long ago. Seven native islanders have either volunteered or have been selected to take these new comers on as apprentices when it comes time, for they will need to introduce them to the ways of dragons and what it means for them to be of Berkian heritage.
The question remains though, will these outsiders be able to accept this hidden culture, will they be able to adapt, and will those that live with dragons finally be able to come out of hiding with their ways of life?
