Hrm... So the plot thickens.

It's possible that it was simply a lucky stab. But assuming these individuals went for the bowels intentionally, not hitting that artery would have meant he could have lived long enough to identify them to the others.

Based on ch.2 I wouldn't completely rule out the Butler, since Ivor may be setting up a trap.

So for now the only 3 I see absolutely no chance of it being is:
Red-head
Mystery Man
Swan
Ivor (For literary reason)

The red head is very brash, so unless she was an amazing actress, she would not have made it such a calculated death.

Mystery Man's alibi is too loose for anyone contemplating murder.

Ms Swan is horrified. She doesn't have the composure for murder.

Ivor certainly had the knowledge for it, but as things stand, he's the protagonist. He could still be the killer, but nothing has risen a red flag and so he has amnesty until then.

Now... The only other person who would know the general location of an artery and that bowel interaction so intimately would be Chef Plum. As a chef, he certainly must know his way around a carcass, though it be animal.

Though these interactions... They're all so misleading...

5 potential killers now:
Chef
Architect
Actress
Accountant
Butler

I also misread who said "it's too quiet to dance" It was Ms. Swan. The architect is still my prime suspect, but he had an accomplice, no doubt.

If that were the case than his statement of "It could have been a woman as well!" means he tried to displace the blame onto the women. It could have been Ms Swan herself. Or it could have been one of the other 3. No matter. If he wanted to walk out of this innocent, he wouldn't accuse his accomplice.

That leaves me with:
Architect
Chef
Butler

Though there's one line that bothers me and my entire theory so far:

Who is "he" here? The surgeon? What had he done so deftly? Or the butler for that matter. I'm also convinced the Mystery Man is actually a cop, scoping out suspects. So perhaps he was the one who did NOT miss "it."

Perhaps he gave the butler some sort of message to read as he leaves to "Make a phone call." The message could have been handed off during the push.

/sigh. I need ch. 3 to get a better grasp.
