Depends on what you wanna play, really...
I think Gears of War 2 is great if you want something really over-the-top and violent.
Halo is good if you want a regular campaign, with great multiplayer.
And I've never played COD5.

Halo 3 sucks.
Gears sucks.
There is no Call of Duty 5 however the gameplay of the ones after CoD3 suck.

Halo 3 is good but can get boring.
