is the name barry short for finbarr?
i ask because i have a friend called finbarr he is an absolute ledgend but i dont believe him that you can shorten finbarr to barry?

I've known several people with the name Bernard whose had their name shortened to Barry.

But if his name is Finbarr it should still apply. It's just a nickname. Strangers can't dictate to you what kind of nickname you give friends.
