The database had to go through an optimization this morning. The process started at 1:00am but unfortunately due to the large size of the database the process was not finished until 6:45pm in the afternoon.

As a next step to improve on performance, the many services within Gaia will have their own database servers so future maintenance will only affect one area of the site at one time and will not cause a downtime of more than a few hours.

Though such optimization should not be necessary until another 6 months later. whee Thank you for your patience, and we'll continue to work hard to improve on the speed and performance of Gaia Online.
