My monitor displays everything in a purple hue. I've had it for a couple of years and the computer it used to work fine on I've got rid of now so I can't check it on that. Is there anything simple that someone with little knowledge of computers could do or will I simply have to throw it away?
It's could be a few things.

1. The monitor is dieing. (very likely)
2. The data cable is loose or the pins are broken/bent.
3. The video card is dieing.
Do you have another monitor that you could plug into the computer?

Try using it to test if it's your monitor, or the video card that is causing the problems.

If you still get the discoloration while having the other monitor plugged in, then it's the video card.
Will do, thanx for the help smile
you need to adjust it's contrast or something like that.

I'm not sure. forgive me if I'm wrong.

That happened to me before =/ The only way I tried to fix it is to slap it till it goes back to normal ( it actually works ^^;; )

every time I have had a color issue like this, it has been a bad cable except once when it was the video card.
while having pc and mnitor on, twist and turn the connecter were its going into the PC, if you cant it get it fixed that way, then replace it

becouse what happened a few pins got loose, and i dont think its a grafics card dieing bc simply it flickers not turns weird colors and i had the same problem with my old minitor

That'll work until more connections become loose inside your monitor. There will come a point where bashing on the thing will do no good anymore.

A good tip to remember: if it's broken, hitting it will only break it more. Hitting stuff does not solder connections together.

But hey, if it's out of warranty, bash away.
