Welcome to Matope's Cold Comes In event!
Winter's still, freezing landscapes and bare trees can make the world seem lifeless. This event celebrates plants and animals that, against all odds, thrive during the winter and in polar climates.

If you're unfamiliar with the shop, click the image above to head over to the main thread and read up about the world of Matope and the kin that inhabit it, as well as the rest of our shop's rules. It is especially important that you read up on the naming conventions for the world, as they are very specific, and if you do not know the rules then you might be excluded or disqualified from certain events.

This event ends and all contests close on February 10, 2018 at 10:00pm EST unless otherwise stated.

ICE FISHING



It turns out there's life under the ice, too. These seven kin are lurking there, waiting for those souls brave enough to drill through the ice and retrieve them in a daily ice fishing dice game that lasts the entire event. Click here to learn more, and play!

RECIPE RAFFLE



This is an in-character recipe raffle. To enter, create a recipe (defined as loosely as you'd like) for winter food that kin could feasibly follow. It can be serious or humorous but should work within the universe. Keep in mind that the swamp's cold season is milder than what most of us think of as winter, so you have plenty of options! There is no length requirement.

You will receive one extra ticket if you have 1-3 kin. You'll receive two extra tickets if you have 0 kin. You own a kin if you have accepted a kin as a gift or if you have won a kin in a contest of any kind that you have entered, regardless of name status or cert status. If, after entering, you gain more kin later, you will keep the tickets you've already collected.

AVATAR CONTEST



These beautiful flowers can survive even in cold weather. To enter for them, you'll need to create an avatar (using either Gaia's avatar builder or your own inventory) themed around cold weather that still looks beautiful. You can interpret the prompt however you'd like! Avatars should use real items but you don't need to provide an item list to enter.

When you're done, upload your avatar or a screenshot of your avatar to an image hosting website and post the form below. We recommend using Imgur to host your screenshot. For the convenience of our judges, please do not add spoiler tags to your entry.

STORY CONTEST



Reindeer shed their antlers and grow them anew, a cycle of loss and rebirth that repeats every year. To enter this contest, write a story that a kin might tell about change, and the sometimes painful things that one must go through in order to grow. Your story does not need to be about kin but should contain concepts that kin are familiar with.

Please keep in mind that caribou/deer of any kind do not exist in the Matope universe. You may claim your entry as a storytelling credit toward the legendary requirements if it reaches at least 500 words in length.
