Um, of course I understand how hard it is to do muay Thai conditioning....btw, kicking banana trees is hella old school, even for the Thais. All the top gyms in Thailand use heavy bags and other MODERN equipment.

Also, there are plenty of ways to close the distance without having to shoot for a leg take-down(Judoka should know this)...and you usually don't just take a shot out of no-where, you got to set it up with a feinting punch or kick(which if you watch a lot of old school Royce, he does this).

That's the point. No school like the old school. And we have an abundance of banana trees, so its easier to kill them than kick the bag. Bags swing, and trees don't. Anyways, my bag is kinda soft on the bottom now. I needa beat the s**t outta it on the high line now.

Well, I know there's more ways, but the most effective is the leg takedown, and, as the guy said, Bruce Lee kinda did have a striking speed of .05 seconds. That's pretty damn fast. Faster than most feint a strike without a Wing Chun counter right behind it.
One of the reasons Chuck Norris raped the rest of America was because he was taught counters and trapping from Wing Chun thru Bruce Lee.

And anyhow, he's dead, so we really can't test the theory.

Bruce Lee was just a creator of a martial arts style and an actor. That's how he's going to be remembered. Norris is just an actor with a TKD black belt.

And a Brazilian Jujitsu blackbelt under the Machados.

He's actually a brown belt.

According to his bio, he's a black belt. Looking for that info gave me a headache, 'cause I just found out that he's a friend to Sean Hannity and subscribes to the so-called theory of Intelligent ******** Chuck.

Ed O'Neil(Al Bundy from Married With Children) is also a BJJ Black belt....dude loves jujitsu.

My source: Brown Belt

It also lists Ed O'Neil as a blue belt....but he's been a black belt for quite some time, now(I can show the youtube vid of him receiving his black belt if you'd like). Anderson Silva is also listed as a brown belt, but he got his black belt(under big Nog) about a year or more ago. I suspect that site isn't as up to date as it should be.

Back at my very first muay Thai gym...they had a heavy bag there that was dense as ******** it was like kicking lightly padded concrete. It barely swayed. So IMO modern equipment > banana trees....but I guess if its abundant and you can't afford a good muay Thai heavy bag, a banana tree would be a good poor man's training implement.

Oh and for a BJJ practitioner, pulling guard would be the most effective way to get your opponent to your level....and if you're really good, flying armbars and triangles would be a viable option, too. But you're right, he's dead, so I guess the point is moot. The only reason I say such things is because I'm tired of all the Bruce Lee nut-huggers deifying the man...like he was the absolute best fighter in the world when he's got no legitimate record to show for it. Or that without him, martial arts would be dead today(which absolutely isn't the case as there will always be those interested in the h2h combat arts).

Flying armbars are actually extremely easy to pull off, and is actually almost as simple as pulling guard, you do not need to be an experienced BJJ practitioner to perform one. Matter of fact, a omoplata is a far more advanced technique than a flying armbar.

And yes Bruce Lee is such an overused name for someone that created a martial art style.

I would think a flying triangle is much simpler to perform. Speaking of flying armbars, though, I remember an episode of Stargate Atlantis where one of the soldiers pulled one off...it was sick. Then I remember an episode of Walker Texas Ranger where Chuck Norris pulled off a flying triangle. I like how mainstream television/cinema is recognizing the awsomeness of BJJ.

And I agree...omaplata is hella hard to pull off. Though, I wonder how the gogoplata ranks as far as difficulty goes.

Gogos are rarely seen. I have only seen it twice I believe, and both times by Shinya Aoki, who has BJJ so far advanced of everyone else's that it's not even funny. I would have to say they're the hardest submission to get, even though it uses the 10th Planet Rubber Guard by Eddie Bravo, all of Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet stuff which people say are difficult get used more than his gogoplata. In MMA Aoki and Brad Imes I believe are the two most recognizable faces for the technique since Aoki has gotten one from guard and one from mount and Imes got two gogos in a row. I have locked it on before myself but that was in practise against some kid who just started taking traditional JJ and I was teaching him about passing guard.

Nick Diaz was able to pull a gogo on Gomi Takanori....of course Diaz beat the crap out of him with strikes first...so yuh. Still think its gay they took Diaz's win away....just 'cause he tested positive for herb.

Stuff like pot can have huge factors in a fight, though I do not think it affected Diaz's fight with Gomi at all. I don't like Diaz because of his attitude and I hope that I won't see in him in the UFC or Dream again. His brother is a d**k too and I hope he has to fight Sherk soon, but he's supposedly fighting Joe Daddy, where I hope Joe doesn't ******** up.

I know Eddie Bravo says that pot makes the movements seem more natural and you don't have to think about pulling off a technique...you just sort of do it....so I guess the Athletic commission may have a legitimate beef with it...but then, do you really think Diaz lit up before his match with Gomi? Wouldn't have someone saw him or smelled it on him? Its not like the effects of cannabis stay with you for more than a couple hours or so...let alone days.

A martial artist that endorses pacifism is like a bird that would rather walk than fly.
I have been training for almost 3 years in School of Shaolin style Kung Fu. Its a mixture of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu, Northern Praying Mantis, and Seven Star Tai Chi Praying Mantis. So far Ive memorized dozens of forms and practice with Staff, Chinese Broadsword, and Tai Chi Straight Sword.

Pleased To meet my brothers of Martial Arts

To be honest I think it's sort of like using steroids previous to a bout. Even if you haven't used it for a couple of months you were still using it at a period of time which gave you a period of time where you held an unfair advantage over your opponents. The pot can give Diaz the ability to calm his mind and not have to deal with the mental aspect of going into a fight, which sometimes has an effect on fighters and how well they fight.
