I don't see it as a triforce at all. It is Machida who is the dominant LHW, he had a complete MMA game, his wrestling is comparable if not better than Rashad's and obviously better than Rampage's, his effective striking is obviously superior to both men, his submission skills world's apart of both men, and he obviously has KO power. He had been in there with champions in Tito Ortiz, Rich Franklin and BJ Penn so there is no issue as to experience. Lyoto does not have a style which would lead to him gassing himself and both Rampage and Rashad have had suspect cardio.
No men have complete games like Lyoto, Rampage would lose simply off of kicks, Rashad by his striking inexperience. Machida's biggest threat would be Couture dropping weight.

No, I think Rashad Evans is Lyoto Machida's biggest challenge to date. Rashad will probably push the pass and go in for take downs. Of course likewise Lyoto is probably the biggest test of Rashad's career. Machida has more evasiveness, so maybe able to get out of the way of those takedowns. But either way, this is going to be a good fight.

I have said it before and will say it again, the way to beating Machida is to chain wrestle him, not go one shot, you need to work him backwards, as he likes to do, clinch, and chain wrestle, work from underhooks down.

Chain wrestling, definitely, but clinching with Machida. Machida pretty good in the clinch. And of course Evans may decide to stand with Machida.

Evans is someone who would rather box it out, and shoot in when he can. He doesn't seem like the person who'll follow a game plan all that well and I can see that being the reason why he loses, outside of the fact that Machida is a beast.

Hm, I thought this thread would be funner but all I see is a stupid discussion about Pan and JKD being the "true for of mma" and whatnot...seriously, who cares? it's just modern mma, doesn't matter where it came from. Oh, btw, I'm going for Machida, he just seems too elusive for Rashad, Rashad is used to fight opponents who stand in front of him and he just counters and knocks them down, especially Lidell, Machida is so much more agile than anyone he's fought before he'll surely won't know how to deal with him. mrgreen

The only reason it's not 'funner' is because people come in and say stupid things like that. Obviously Rashad is going to lose because of Machida's elusiveness. He was losing to Forrest and Forrest is someone who is working on his elusiveness, but nowhere near the level of Machida.

Rashad Evans however does follow the game plan. Look at his fight with Chuck Liddell. He followed the gameplan there. And he will also push the pace. The problem is that Machida will probably match or surpass that pace. Otherwise it all depends on the gameplans made by their respective camps (both of which are damn good camps). Either way, this will be a damn good fight.

I guess thats true, but consider this, the game plan was, for what I saw (or at least what I would've done), to move back and counter-punch. That's how he got him, and that's something I've seen Rashad do a few times, so maybe he didn't really follow the game plan, maybe he just fought like he always does, which he can't against Machida cause it won't work, and we all know it.

The problem with setting a game plan for someone like Machida is totally different then setting a game plan for Penn, Serra, Liddell or Jackson. All of those guys have certain things they do or don't do and that leads to the creation of a gameplan, with Penn and Serra, mixing it up by making it a wrestling match Pierre was able to wear out their shoulders so they can't strike effectively and hit Georges chin. With Liddell Rashad and Keith used facial expressions that Chuck makes to time their shots and Jackson, they used his unwillingness to defend the leg kicks. With Machida there is nothing which he does predictably other than not take damage. He uses other people's game plans against them only he does it better, outwrestles Tito, out judo Thierry, out struck Thiago, out struck Franklin, out struck Bonnar and the list goes on. You cannot create a game plan for someone like that, it's why Forrest wanted nothing to do with him. He was lucky that he got the staph infection when he did so he didn't have to lose to Machida and got a gassed out Shogun instead.

The game plan for the Chuck Liddell fight was to throw him off-balance, make him uncomfortable, so he would start opening up, and then catch him with something. If Rashad was fighting he normally, he would just going in for a take-down and sit on top of his opponent. But it's MMA, anything can happen.

The fight between Griffin and Shogun was a torrid pace. Anyone would have gassed from that pace. And sure it will be hard to make a gameplan for a guy like Machida, but not impossible. Some where out there in the universe there is a gameplan to beat Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida. And I doubt Forrest was afraid of fighting Machida.
