The Canucks beat the Wild 5-2 this evening. I felt we had a good showing from all our lines, the defense was suspect at times, but played well. Raycroft seemed to have a hard time controlling rebounds for a while. Both goals were scored on rebounds if I remember correctly. It was nice to get two goals from the forth line and see Burrows get a goal.

That Liambas hit was brutal, but not entirely his fault. Fanelli turned his back on the hit that he had looked up and seen coming. And Liambas got suspended for the entire season and playoffs? Thats just wrong.
Sure, I hope Fanelli recovers and all, but that play was not suspension worthy on its own.


But that aside, figured Id post after hearing that Krejci has come down with Swine Flu. As if our injuries werent dealing enough damage to the team to point, we have to deal with this virus now too? Talk about a shitty start to a season.
Hope Krejci recovers soon and is well.

The rest of the Bruins will be taking on the Habs tonight in the Garden. It will definitely be an interesting game given the way our roster is looking now.

Speaking of the H1N1 virus, an Alberta health official has been fired over the whole Calgary Flames/Abbotsford Heat fiasco.

For those who didn't hear about it, there is a shortage of H1N1 vaccines in Canada. So a priority list was created so people more likely to catch H1N1 would be first in line. (People with health problems, young children, pregnant women, etc.) Somehow the Calgary Flames, the Abbotsford Heat AND their families were vaccinated ahead of the priority list.

So in essence: Full grown, very healthy men got vaccinated ahead of countless people with chronic health problems. This just added insult to injury for the Edmonton Oilers. Their line-up is completely destroyed by the flu, and they followed protocol. They are waiting in line like everyone else in Canada.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors have also been vaccinated in a similar situation. Expect more heads to roll.

Vancouver, Montreal, Edmonton, and Ottawa are all waiting patiently for the priority listing to be completed.

I would consider pro athletes just as if not more important than many of the "priority" groups. They travel from city to city coast to coast, country to country. This could spread the infection quickly. Secondly, they interact with and play in front of upwards of 20 000 fans a day depending on where they are, also making the spread likely. Thirdly, if they are getting it, people will follow suit. Finally, they visit sick kids in the hospital. We definitely do not want dieing kids to be killed by their heroes.

Well then you are very poorly educated on H1N1.

An NHL player may catch H1N1, but because an NHL player is as healthy as a horse, they may get a bit of a runny nose or a bit of a cough. A week later they will be over it because their immune system is so strong. That vaccine may cut one or two days off their normal recovery time.

What about Cancer patients? What about Diabetics? What about pregnant women or young children? All of these categories have lowered, developing, or completely destroyed immune systems. That vaccine isn't going to be a difference of a day or two to these people, it's going to mean their lives.

If you think the Calgary Flames are more deserving than the people in that priority listing then you're truly delusional.

I find it funny how the Wild fans consider the Canucks to be their top rival. But I wouldn't even consider Minnesota a top three rival to the Canucks.

It's the fact I know how much Wild fans hate us that makes these victories so much more worth it. (Especially when the game winner is a shorty)

Great game by the whole team. We're completely destroyed by injuries, but we're still finding ways to win. We're slowly climbing towards the top of the Northwest once again.

Spezza back, Sens win.

Jason Spezza was top notched last night after returning from his 2 game absence when dealing with that nagging back injury.

The game starts bad with Chris Neil taking a penalty for interference. With about 30 seconds left to kill in the penalty, Tanguay was able to score, 1-0 Tampa. A couple of minute later Alfredsson was by the net and puts one in with the wrist shot, game tied 1-1. That would be really all for the 1st period.

2nd Period, Ottawa is on their 3rd powerplay of the game with Ohlund being in the box for interference. Spezza passes to Kovalev, Kovalev right to Fisher, and Fisher puts it in, 2-1 Ottawa. Fisher now has 6 goals so far this season, comparing to his last season, a grand total of only 13 goals. A couple of minutes later, Tampa is on the powerplay and St.Louis made a nice pass to Stamkos who blasts into the back of the net and the game is tied again at 2.

In that 2nd period Chris Neil ended up destroying Hedman on a hit. Right afterwards Downie decides that it was time to drop the gloves and Neil doesn't care hes fine with that. Heres a video for you guys.

Downie ends up getting a 5 min major for fighting, 2 for the instiagator, and then a game mis conduct. Bye bye Downie. mrgreen

Ottawa came close a few times in the third but were not able to score. So extra time was on the way with over time. Ottawa did not let Tampa even get a shot on net and Spezza was able to blast one while on the powerplay and they take the game 3-2.

So Spezza is back, Winchester is done with his stint in the AHL and is back but was a healthy scratch last night. Volchenkov could be back in 10 days, everything so far is going well with his right elbow.

If you read what I posted I said that it is important they are vaccinated to STOP the spread, not to stop them from getting sick. A hockey player comes it contact with exponentially more people than your average cancer patient. But I am not going to retype what I already wrote.
