We have schools in Florida, Canada, brazil,Baltimore, new jersey i think. And our mestre is Name Curisco.

I've always been interested in capoeira, yet never was able to find a place to learn it. It looks like dancing, yet it's a martial art. So that's definitely something unique about it.

No offense meant here but would you say it's effective in a real fight with someone using a different art?

Due to the "looking like a dance" aspect I've doubted it's effectiveness as much as I have wanted to try it.

No, solely using capoeira in a fight wouldn't be the brightest move, but capoeira isn't about fighting, at least not in my opinion. Capoeira is a lifestyle, something you can use for more than just fighting. But, that's not to say that a few moves wouldn't be useful in a fight, such as a meia lua to the temple! Mwahahahaha!!! scream

Everone that trys to use capoeira in a real martial art situation would not even think about using the Ginga. you can use the escape and what not.

My Capoeira teacher did all sorts of other martial arts styles before he even knew what Capoeira was.
I think he had done Karate, or something like that, for four years, when one of his friends started doing Capoeira. His friend was in it for about four months.

My teacher, then, saw the style, and laughed at it, saying "It's a dance! There's no way you can fight with a dance..."
So they decided to fight, to see which would win, 4-year Karate, or 4-month Capoeira.

My teacher left the fight with a black eye, and since then, decided to take Capoeira, and now, years later, he teaches it 8D

He showed us the move that gave him a black eye, too. Haha.

~~~
Capoeira is called by many a "deadly dance".
I dunno why, but people overlook many good things about applying a dance into a fighting style. They look down on it, and it seems stupid to me.
Because, if you think about it, if you're dancing while you're fighting, it makes all of your moves more flowy, like water, therefore making you faster, and harder to hit by the opponent.
If you saw a good Capoeira player fighting, you'd understand
I'm a Capoeirista from Aruba. I'm going to get my first cord in August.
Well..here's my Capoeira story.
I was first introduced to capoeira by playing tekken. I found the fighting style was cool, but I thought there were no Capoeira schools here in Aruba, so I lost interest. I got re-interested in Capoeira when I saw a group Capoeiristas from ABADA-Capoeira Aruba performing at a talent show. After getting information about the group I decided to join ABADA-Capoeira Aruba and I've been hooked on Capoeira ever since.
Capoeira really isn't that known here at Aruba, so we have only a small class compare to other countries. But after doing some demonstration around Aruba we kind of got some new students.
Well...that's about it.
Well, that's pretty amazing!
I'm glad you're into Capoeira and studying it now!
I'm about to get my first cord as well, and I wish you good luck! heart
Btw, about Tekken, I'm glad cuz I found out there's a girl Capoeirista in the game 8D!
Christie Monteiro. And I plan on dressing up like her sometime heart
sorry i've not been here for a while.. i am very busy.. and very tired... as for the difficulty of capoeira.. It depends to tell the truth.. I'm what people call a street fighter (please dont compare up to the comic) basically Me and other "street fighters" try to learn from many styles and many masters.. we live for fighting.. as such I have studied many styles and fought many people.. I love sparing! Capoeira is not hard to learn but building the muscle to do some of the things in capoeira can be hard.. capoeira is amazing and i have great respect for people who are good at it
Hey, learning many different things is amazing!
I wanna do the same. I wanna try as many different things as possible. More experience, more knowledge. heart
Capoeira IS a fairly easy martial arts to learn, and that's what I love about it.
But, in contrast, when you start getting more into it, some of the things you're required to do are soooo hard Dx
It's all about balance and strength. Ugh.
I'm still getting there. 8D
Capoeira Contemporary?
Do you mean Regional style?
And it's cool you do Angola! 3nodding
I find that style harder, for me, at least sweatdrop
Cool, thanks for the website!
I'll definitely look it up, since I'm moving to Brazil soon, and I don't wanna give up my Capoeira. 3nodding
I don't agree with that.
I know many people who use Capoeira only to fight, and they're good enough to kill someone.
Specially my Mestre, and my instructor Dx
You don't HAVE to use other fighting styles to be able to fight well, and kick a**.
Capoeira is more than good enough! x3
Again, I don't agree with that Dx
I think I've seen enough Capoeira during my whole life to know how killer it can be.
which do you think is better in your opinion; angola or regional?
or even, what are your thoughts on either?
Well, in my opinion, both styles are good and very useful.
My personal preference, however, lies in Regional.
I find it much easier to move faster, and high, than slower and close to the ground sweatdrop
Angola requires more control, I think.
But my fighting is a little reckless, I have to say Dx
I'm working on getting better. =3
Angola can get very fast especially if you play agisnt a mestre thats been doing it for years, i mean can you imagine an angolan fighter fighting you with a knife in there hand.
When your not looking I will burn your house down with my mind......haha just kidding!
