Here's what you all need to remember about Manny, he's been asking for a trade, and the Sox have been trying to trade him, since before the '04 season. What makes it difficult to complete a transaction involving him is the fact that his current contract is for $20 million a year, severely limiting the number of team that would tender an actual offer. I don't know whether he'll end up going or not; it all depends if someone is actually willing to pony up that kind of cash.
Oh, does anyone knoe anything about the new Japanese reliever the Sox just signed? I know he was a teammate od Matsui back in the day and that's about it. Still waiting to hear if they land that big time starting pitcher from Japan too.
We know all of that. Ramirez right now compared to all the other FAs that have been signed to big contracts (Soriano, etc.) is a bargain. However, the Red Sox are still looking at offers. There are many teams that have shown some pretty good interest in Manny such as the Padres, Giants, Dodgers, etc. If the Sox make a trade with the Dodgers then they'll mostlikely get some of the Dodgers' most prized prospects in Matt Kemp, Andy Laroche, etc. In the Padres' case, the Red Sox could either get Linebrink, Peavy (mostlikely not), Adrian Gonzalez (BoSox have been wanting this guy for awhile now). Right now it all depends on what the Sox can get back for Ramirez. If they lose him then they don't really have anyone else out there that could replace his bat. Don't expect guys like Lugo or Drew to make up for Ramirez's bat. At the same time Ramirez has been a major headache to everyone. Like I said before it's a love-hate relationship. If a good deal comes along from any of the teams that have shown interest in Ramirez then the Sox should probably take it.
Hideki Okajima was NEVER a teammate of Daisuke Matsuzaka so I don't know where you heard that. Okajima said he has met Matsuzaka, but that's how far it goes. See:

Okajima is getting a 2-year, 2.5 million dollar deal. That's a pretty amazing deal actually. First, the BoSox do not have a leafty and the market for pitching and lefties in general is pretty thin. They invested a lot in Matsuzaka with the side effect of getting a foot in Japan's talent door. I like Okajima's age, K/BB, and he has solid HR/9 numbers.
