Snowboard Question: Camber vs Rocker?

I was hoping some one with experience of different board types could tell me just how noticeable the difference between a camber board and a rocker board is.

See, I'm a beginner but renting equipment each time is getting expensive so I wanted to nab a board of my own and quite honestly, the rocker boards for sale are much prettier..but I've read a bit about them and it sounds like the rocker style board is more for tricks and might make things more difficult for some one who's still trying to learn the basics.

Is that true or is it negligible? What about camber-rocker-camber combos?
