I've been watching UFC for a while now. (Nothing like UFC 100, 101, etc.) But I usually catch something relating to UFC on Spike pretty often. I want to get into something like that. But I'm not quite sure on how to start. First, I know I need to get in better shape. And I plan on taking a kickboxing class. And I know there is a Ju-Jitzu class somewhere kind of locally. Any suggestions?

Kick boxing is good for your out-game, but you also need a good medium game and in-game, as well as ground game.

Kick boxing will take care of out game, but for your medium to in-game, I'd suggest Muay Thai, thats a pretty classic one. For your ground game, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to go, as the Gracies have been dominating prize fighting for decades.

Some standard mat style wrestling is also a plus. As was mentioned earlier, if your still in high school or college, join your wrestling team. It will provide invaluable fitness training, and hands-on grapling experience.

For fitness, your going to need all around perfection. I'm going to direct you here: http://www.mensfitness.com/fitness/workout_routines/292 for your workout, as it is the one I use, though I also intergrate a lot of muscle mass building work outs in there as well, for additional strength as well as endurance. Look into supliments as well, Like Kre-alkyline, and AMP Protein, and something to open veins and increase blood flow to your major muscle groups.

Also, get your running in gear. Your going to need that stamina to keep going when it really counts. Start slow, maybe 2 miles a day, every day, with a rest cycle on sunday, working up to 5 - 8 miles per day, averaging 8 - 12 miles per hour per mile.

It won't be easy, but if you dedicate yourself, there is no limit to what you can do.

Cardio, core workouts, conditioning, strength training ... as, if not more, important that technique training ... you might also want to make sure you are at the right weight class ...

Whoa man, are you kidding? More important than technique training? If you take a brute, just an absolutely perfectly fit human with no technique, and pit him against a standard fighter with excellent technique, he'll get grounded. You can't do s**t without technique. I've fought guys that could bench over 275 easy, but their punches felt like nothign ebcause they didn't transfer from the hips. Technique is the single most important thing out there!

I'm just gonna throw this out here. Does anyone agree that a shorter fighter could do good in a heavier weight class? I mean I'm 5'9, 203. And I get all this s**t about cutting down to a smaller weight because I'm not 6'2, 6'3.

5'9'' isn't that bad for the light heavyweight ... I'm 5'6'' and I used to fight at middleweight ... but I got sick and tired of fighting giants ... so I'm dropping down ...

It starts to seem bad when everyone else in your weight class is like a Rotwieller and you're a chihuahua. I'm thinking about going down to middleweight. A 5'6 welterweight is pretty good though.

Anyone else starting to think that Bobby Lashley would be awesome going to UFC. I'm feeling like he's building up for.

But if you have good technique and no cardio ... well you won't be seeing the next round ... but I combination of both ... well that's dangerous ...

KICKBOXING FTW xd

Next thing you know you get taken down and made to tap ...
Just depends on how good you are as a striker.
I played karate and Kung FU Before!
mma is all fine and dandy, but i feel like it has become too much of sport. back when the ufc first started and pride was around. that was the good stuff, because you saw legitimate "MIXED MARTIAL ARTS" in today's mma leagues you see too much of the same thing. "MMA" has become its own style and therefor should change its name razz and please keep in mind this is an opinion coming from someone who has trained in multiple martial arts since the young age of 4 (I am now 19)

I do Capoeira, but I've been getting slightly interested in wrestling lately.
