Utley did more to help the Phillies even get to game 6. He should have won it. I am not saying Matsui would not have been a good choice, he was. I just think Utley deserved it more.

Nothing is going to change my opinion.

If the Phillies had won the World Series then I'm sure Chase Utley would have been MVP, but they didn't. A player on the winning team is usually given the honor of being MVP. That is the way it has been for years. As far as I know the only time a player on the winning team wasn't pronounced MVP was back in 1960. The 1960 World Series was between the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees. The series went all the way to game seven and the Pittsburgh Pirates won, but the MVP for the World Series was Bobby Richardson, the second baseman for the New York Yankees.

There has also been instances where more than one player from the winning team has been named MVP. Back in 2001 when the Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series they named both Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling MVP. The award has always gone to the player on the winning team, except in 1960. The only reason Bobby Richardson was named MVP back in 1960 was because he had 12 runs batted in, a World Series record. Utley may have been awarded the MVP if he had succeeded in breaking Jacksons home run record, but he didn't. The MVP award rightfully went to a player on the winning team.

These are just a few MVP's from the past couple of years.

In 2008 the Phillies won the World Series and the MVP was Cole Hammels.
In 2007 the Boston Red Sox won the World Series and the MVP was Mike Lowell.
In 2006 the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series and the MVP was David Eckstein.
In 2005 the Chicago White Sox won the World Series and the MVP was Jermaine Dye.
In 2004 the Boston Red Sox won the World Series and the MVP was Manny Ramirez.
In 2003 the Florida Marlins won the World Series and the MVP was Josh Beckett.
In 2002 the Anaheim Angels won the World Series and the MVP was Troy Glaus.
In 2001 the Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series and the MVP was Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling.
In 2000 the Yankees won the World Series and the MVP was Derek Jeter.

The White Sox traded Chris Getz and Josh Fields to the Royals for Mark Teahen! blaugh It's a really long story, but Mark Teahen is like one of my favorite players.(even when he kills the Sox) It's going to be awesome to see him in a White Sox uniform!! Plus the Sox signed Mark Kotsay to a one year deal for next year. blaugh

Cool, hopefully we can put him at 3B and have Beckham play SS and Alexei at 2B. (I really liked Alexei at 2B in 2008)

I like Beckham at 3rd. I hope they keep him there, I think he'll become a good 3rd baseman. I wouldn't quit on Alexei at SS either, I saw improvement during the year. I think he just needs to keep focus. I think they will probably be putting Teahen in right field. Then they'll have Nix at 2nd?? But they could also do what you said and put Teahen at 3rd, Bacon at SS, and Alexei at 2nd. ORRR they can keep Alexei at SS, put Teahen at 3rd, then Bacon could play 2nd. I just find that putting Beckham at SS would be a bad idea at the major league level. What I've heard was that Gordon wasn't that great of SS in the first place. Why change is postion now when he showed a lot of progress at 3rd? Sure is bat might look better as a SS but who cares, I think he might be worse than Alexei at SS.

Angels resign Bobby Abrue for a 2 year 18M deal! He desversed it after this year!

MidnightSunVampire - And? I still think he deserved it. That is that.

If I had to go with a Yankees' player to win it, it would have been Rivera.

Yankees win their 27 WS Tittle!! I just love when the Yankees beat Pedro lol, who's your daddy Pedro? Matsui is hahahaha. This team is going to repeat in 2010!

Now how can you give the WS MVP to a player on the losing side? seriously be real here. Matsui dserved it he had 3 HRs, 8 RBIs and was hitting like .700 something I think.

Yeah, pretty much. I already explained it. lol

So the Yankees don't deserve to win because you simply dislike one guy on the team? There are many players on the Yankees who deserve to win. Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Mark Teixeira, Andy Pettitte, C.C Sabathia, Johnny Damon, Melky Cabrera, Hedeki Matsui, etc, etc, etc. They are a great team and there are many many many players who deserve to win. It's going to be wonderful to watch the Yankees win their 27th World Series Championship tonight. It has been a long time coming and any true baseball fan should be able to enjoy the World Series and baseball for what it is.

Did I ever say they didn't deserve to win?? No, they may very well deserve it, but that doesn't mean I have to want them to win. I'm not a Yankees fan, I'm never going to be, so I'm not going to enjoy it. I'm not going to care that much. Sure I'll be mad for about a minute, but then I won't care. And besides, if 9 years or whatever is "a long time coming" go look at when the Red Sox won or the White Sox won. THAT is a long time coming. 9 years is nothing in baseball.

Yeah, but the Yankees always got close during these past 9 years. Except last year when they didn't make it into the playoffs at all. Its different when you actually win the division or win the wild card spot and get really really really really close year after year just to lose it all. I can understand it being hard for the Red Soxs this year because they came close, but the Chicago White Soxs lol They didn't even make it into the playoffs. When you compare the Yankees and White Sox it's very very very different. White Soxs lost during the ALDS in 2008. In 2005 they won the World Series. And in 2000 they lost during the ALDS. Now lets compare that to what the Yankees have done these past years.

We know they didn't make it last year. In 2007 they lost during the ALDS. In 2006 they lost during the ALDS. In 2005 they lost during the ALDS. In 2004 they lost during the ALCS. In 2003 they lost the World Series. In 2002 they lost during the ALDS. In 2001 they lost the World Series. And in 2000 they won the World Series against the Mets. Yankees have come very very close just to lose during these past few years. Some of the other teams in the league didn't even come close to making the playoffs. I found last year to be a lot easier than any other year because at least there weren't any World Series expectations. I knew the Yankees weren't good enough to make it into the playoffs and I accepted it.

Thats why it's going to be nice to watch them win number 27 because for the past 9 years you knew they were a good team, but there was always a little something missing. Now this year they finally have everything working for them. Its great to see a team fight year after year after year after year and finally watch them succeed.

*I only read the first paragraph of your essay*
You obviously did not understand my comparison. I was comparing the number of years in bewteen World Series Championships... It took the Red Sox 86 years and the White Sox 88 years. THOSE were long waits for a championship, not 9 years. I understand what you were saying though. But I disagree about it being "hard". Ok, so the Yankees haven't won a WS in 9 years, that isn't hard. Try being a Cubs fan, honestly. Believe it or not it's a lot harder to not win a World Series in 100 years(the Cubs) than to go to the playoffs almost every year and be a contender for the WS every year also(the yankees). rolleyes

It probably is hard for teams like the Cubs, but I'd imagine it was just a little bit harder in 2008, 2007, and 2003 when they made it into the playoffs and got really close to the World Series, but didn't make it. Once a team makes it into the playoffs its completely different. Suddenly you have high expectations. Obviously if a team doesn't make it into the playoffs then its not as disappointing than if they had made it into the playoffs and lost. I mean, you pretty much know when your team won't make it into the playoffs like a week before the season ends, sometimes sooner. I'm sure its hard, but they probably don't take it too hard.

Its impossible for fans of other teams to understand what Cubs fans have been going through for generations. After the Cubs lost the World Series in 1945 it took them nearly 25 years to get a .500 season, and over 100 years to win a playoff series *2003 the Cubs beat the Braves in the NLDS in 5*

Being a Cubs fan means learning to live with failure. Since the team has not won a championship in 100+ years, everybody that is not a Cubs fan pretty much expects that to continue, after all baseball is all about being consistent and the only thing the Cubs are able to do for the past 100+ years is just disappoint their fans. The previous owners, *P.K. Wrigley and The Tribune Company* knew damm well that they could put a team full of terrible players and the fans will still come, as long as the money came in, who cares if the Cubs won anything. Even during 1969, 1984, 1989 and 1998 the Cubs somehow had talented teams but those teams lost because there were other teams that were just better.

Then 2003 happened. The happy-go lucky "were happy if the Cubs finished .500" Cubs fanbase died that year. Expectations skyrocketed, payroll grew and because of the big expectations, the frustration and anger grew with it. 20 years ago if you told a Cubs fan that their team was going to finish .500 3 years in a row they would laugh in your face. Now, anything short of the World Championship is considered a failure. This team cant live with failure anymore and Tom Ricketts knows that. Now that a Cubs fan who has billions of dollars is calling the shots, he will make the right moves and get this team to championship caliber.

Oh Dont expect Wrigley Field to be going away anytime soon. There will be rennovations, but this stadium will not be comming down.

Believe in Happy Endings Go Cubs!!
